Trump Grumbles About Not Getting Nobel Peace Prize On Hot Mic

President Donald Trump seemed grumpy about getting overlooked by the Nobel Peace Prize committee at a meeting with Israeli leaders at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Monday.

The president was captured complaining to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a delegation in a hot mic moment, People magazine reported, at a gathering to discuss the U.S.-backed ceasefire plan between Israel and forces in Gaza.

“Do I get credit for it? No,” he griped to Netanyahu, who actually was the one who nominated Trump for the Nobel back in June.

After crediting himself for ending “eight wars,” Trump was cut off while in the middle of saying that the prize committee “gave the Nobel” to someone else. The person in question was Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who dedicated the honour to Trump when she accepted the award in October.

Trump then asked the table, “How about India and Pakistan? So I did eight of them. And then I’ll tell you the rest of it.”

Though Trump has repeatedly boasted about helping usher in the end of eight international conflicts, his tally isn’t as straightforward as he’d like to make it seem.

He did have a hand in brokering ceasefire arrangements between Israel and Iran, in addition to Cambodia and Thailand.

However, India and Pakistan maintain that their own militaries are solely responsible for temporarily resolving long-running tensions between the neighboring nations in May, but each has accused the other of violating the terms of their armistice since.

Meanwhile, the ongoing conflict between rival factions in eastern Congo can hardly be deemed over.

Experts maintain there was no official military conflict to negotiate an end to between Serbia and Kosovo, another supposed peace deal on Trump’s list. Similarly, Egypt remains at odds with Ethiopia over access to the Nile River, though the dispute has yet to escalate into military violence.

He did have a hand in mediating an agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but that win was partially sullied when the president mixed up Armenia with Albania during what was supposed to be a victory speech.

Talks are ongoing regarding a peace deal with Ukraine and Russia, as Trump offered security guarantees to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during another Mar-a-Lago meeting on Monday.
