While the resort opened in 2003 and has gone through refurbishments and modern upgrades, the island was put on the map in 2011 as it was the honeymoon destination of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Located amongst the granitic islands of Seychelles, one of its 115 islands dotted in the Indian Ocean, North Island is a place of exclusive luxury within an exquisite wilderness sanctuary. Comprising 11 villas, each measuring between 5,000 and 8,000 sq. ft., the villas have all been created from local materials harvested during the island rehabilitation process in 1997, balancing luxury and simplicity to make it your own sanctuary.

With a true sense of place, the island employs full-time environmentalists to preserve one of the world’s most biologically diverse and important areas. Its Noah’s Ark program started in 1997. The ambitious challenge to restore the island following the collapse of the coconut industry in the 1970s has seen multiple efforts in marine conservation, forest restoration, sea turtle nesting and its Magpie Robin conservation local conservation program. Guests on the island can also meet Brutus, their 450-lb 160-year-old turtle which lives on the island.

Before heading back to your room, check out Wardrobe, the lifestyle boutique on property offering stylish apparel for men and women along with luxury collections from designers like Pucci, Tory Burch and Missoni. Keep an eye out for designer trunk shows held here. There is even a whimsical shop called Fable that has all the provisions you forgot at home.

When it comes to dining, there are a variety of options to choose from.

Because the property caters to guests visiting Walt Disney World Resorts, there is no dress code required at any of the restaurants. It is important to note the restaurants are extremely popular so be sure to make reservations in advance.

Capa Steakhouse & Bar is the resort’s signature 17th floor rooftop Michelin-starred steakhouse. Offering everything from Spanish-influenced tapas to wood-grilled meats, the restaurant offers some of the best views of the nightly fireworks from their two outdoor terraces.

Don Riddle

Ravello, the Michelin-recommended restaurant, boasts some of the best house made Italian fare in town. Start off with an Aperol spritz paired up with their classic Bolognese, a whole pan-seared Branzino, or melt-in-your-mouth prime rib. They also offer a decadent breakfast with fresh juice bar, along with a popular Disney character breakfast for kids to meet Goofy and his pals.

Don’t miss Lickety Split for an after-dinner sweet treat. Designed for both kids and adults, the casual spot offers an incredible selection of pastries created by a James Beard-nominated chef along with house-made gelato and artisanal coffee.

For tasty casual fare, head to The Lobby Bar and enjoy their famous Lobby Burger topped with a decadent combination of whiskey caramelized onions, candied bacon, aged white cheddar cheese, arugula, and garlic aioli.

Our favorite restaurant on property is Plancha located at the golf clubhouse that serves up Latin-inspired dishes and creative cocktails. Try a chicken and corn empanada, carne asada quesadilla, fresh guacamole with naan chips, or Caribbean Jerk dry rubbed chicken wings to start. Standout sandwiches include an overstuffed Cuban and buttermilk-brined turkey club.

San Francisco’s Dynamic Three Zs

Published

Hotel Zeppelin’s Game Room

Within San Francisco’s eclectic mix of visitor accommodations, one hotel group stands out as a reflection of the city’s diverse character. The Z Hotels—Zeppelin, Zetta, and Zelos— deliver a blend of modern luxury and urban chic that offers guests not simply a place to stay, but an experience that is as memorable and dynamic as the city itself. Whether you’re drawn to Zeppelin’s throwback charm, Zetta’s playful energy, or Zelos’ sleek modernity, the three hotels provide stylish and comfortable bases from which to explore one of America’s most vibrant cities.

Hotel Zeppelin

Providing a nod to the 60’s counter culture movement, Hotel Zeppelin will likely bring forth fond memories for all the dead-heads out there. For those too young to remember the Summer of Love, Hotel Zeppelin is simply a really cool place to lay your head for a night or more while staying in the city that defined a movement.

Hotel Zeppelin’s lobby lounge features a portrait of rocker Grace Slick

Located at the convergence of Union Square, SoMa and the Financial District, Hotel Zeppelin and its 196 comfortably state-of-the-art rooms present a colorful and carefully conceived celebration of a seminal artistic and rebellious period in San Francisco’s history. Unexpected design accents, including spontaneous black light exposed poetry, pay tribute to the bookstores and cafés of the beatnik era. Bill Graham Presents concert posters pay homage to the City’s former psychedelic heartbeat. A retro Grace Slick art feature greets guests upon arrival, while Jerry Garcia, Huey Newton and other icons of the era grace the hallways. The inviting and imaginative design inspires feelings of an underground urban hideaway.

PLS on Post bar at Hotel Zeppelin

A lobby lounge features cozy sitting areas, as well as the Zeppelin Café, serving coffee drinks and breakfast items. Additional sustenance is found at lobby-adjacent PLS on Post, serving unique smash burgers and inventive, Instagram-worthy, “Groovy Milkshakes.” (Example: the Choco-Nut, with Reese’s Pieces, peanut butter, peanut butter cups, crushed peanuts, Guittard’s hot fudge, and a Luxardo cherry.)A 1,300 square foot lower level game room offers a playful retreat with Skee ball, shuffleboard, a quick-shot basketball wall, an oversized electronic Bingo board, and two jumbo televisions.

Hotel Zetta

From the classic album-adorned walls to the wine bottle-lined lobby bar, the hip and chic Hotel Zetta stands out with fun, contemporary design that exudes a playful yet upscale atmosphere. (Case in point: the lobby’s glistening chandeliers, which at close glance reveal themselves to be crafted via hundreds of pairs of repurposed eyeglasses.) Located in the heart of San Francisco’s SOMA district, the hotel’s amenities include 116 modern guest rooms, 2,760 square feet of meeting and event space, and the ultimate Playroom—an upstairs loft with shuffleboard, pool, pinball machines, and a photo booth. The lobby located S&R Lounge (short for ‘salvage and rescue’) is another gathering spot for afternoon/evening cocktails, wines and beer. Neighboring restaurant The Cavalier (an upscale British brasserie) is the hotel’s room service purveyor, offering a luxe take on Brit faves like fish ‘n chips and meat pies. Its secret speakeasy is rumored to be a favored spot for visiting luminaries who appreciate the anonymity the space affords.

Hotel Zetta’s lobby bar

At the end of the day, a hotel is all about the comfort of its rooms, and each of Hotel Zetta’s four room types ensures a sound sleep. Amenities including imported linens, high-speed Internet access, Illy espresso machines and Acca Kappa bath products. Hotel Zetta is a great choice for travelers who appreciate a modern aesthetic combined with a lively, energetic vibe.

Where Hotels Zeppelin and Zetta are playful, Hotel Zelos is elegant

Hotel Zelos

Last but not least is Hotel Zelos, located in the historic Pacific Building in the SoMa district. A bit sleeker and slightly more serious than its sister hotels, Hotel Zelos features crisp, chic, clean design within its 202 contemporary and spacious guestrooms and suites of varying size. Like Zeppelin and Zetta, Zelos too features provocative artworks and decor that reflect the city’s animated artistic scene. Yet, where the other two are a bit playful, Zelos is elegant, as illustrated by sleek room design in shades of gray with pops of color here and there.

Zelos’ gathering spot is its sultry bar/restaurant Dirty Habit, a favorite of both locals and hotel guests. Inside, Dirty Habit’s softly illuminated bar and dining room promote intimacy, while outside, the twinkle-lit, bamboo-lined rooftop patio with fire pits is one of the city’s best outdoor dining and imbibing spots. The whiskey and bourbon-centric bar features 640 labels. Call your favorite, and order your Old Fashioned classic or smoked. The seasonally-inspired menu includes items like a tasty peach caprese, pimento cheese deviled eggs, oysters, halibut, seared scallops, and a juicy burger with “whiskey onions,” natch.

Luxurious Villa Vacations with Villa Finder

Published

on

Images credit unsplash, pexels and Villa Finder

The seasoned traveler is accustomed to exploring the world’s most exciting destinations in high style. Be that as it may, one stands apart due to its exquisite blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and unparalleled luxury.  On the coast of western Spain in the Mediterranean, you’ll find an island with a tapestry of experiences waiting to be woven into your travel memoirs. With its stunning landscapes, vibrant local culture, and luxurious accommodations, Majorca stands as an ideal destination for those seeking an unforgettable stay in the jewel of the Med. When traveling with friends or family, staying in a hotel may not be the best way to visit Majorca.  Accommodations such as you‘ll find with Villa Finder make a great option for an exclusive stay in the Majorca.

Majorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, is a treasure trove of stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture.  Historical landmarks like the Palma Cathedral and Bellver Castle offer glimpses into the island’s past, while the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range presents breathtaking drives and outdoor adventures.

Majorca’s rich history is etched into its architecture and traditions, offering a cultural feast for the discerning traveler. The island’s capital, Palma, is a testament to this heritage. The Palma Cathedral, also known as La Seu, stands as a Gothic masterpiece with its towering spires and intricate stained glass windows. Wander through the labyrinthine streets of the old town, where historic mansions and quaint shops create a charming atmosphere.

Art lovers will find solace in the legacy of Joan Miró, whose foundation in Palma showcases a collection of his works, blending surrealism with the island’s unique character. For a taste of local culture, visit the weekly markets in towns like Sineu and Alcúdia. Here, you can immerse yourself in the vibrant colors and flavors of Majorcan produce, from ripe tomatoes to fragrant herbs, all set against a backdrop of lively chatter and traditional music.

A culinary journey through Majorca is nothing short of spectacular. The island’s cuisine is a reflection of its diverse influences and bountiful produce. Indulge in a traditional meal of sobrasada, a cured sausage made from local pork and spices, or savor the sweetness of ensaïmada, a spiral pastry dusted with powdered sugar. For seafood aficionados, dishes like tumbet—a layered vegetable and seafood casserole—offer a taste of the Mediterranean’s bounty. Picture yourself at a seaside bistro in Port de Sóller, savoring the fresh catch of the day as the sun sets over the harbor, casting a golden hue over the waters.

But it’s the beaches of this destination that are the crown jewels of Majorca’s coastline. Visitors love lounging on the soft sands of Playa de Muro, where the turquoise waters gently lap against the shore. For a more secluded experience, Cala Deià, a hidden gem surrounded by rocky cliffs, offers a tranquil escape. The clear waters here are perfect for a refreshing swim or snorkeling adventure, allowing you to explore the vibrant marine life beneath the surface.

As you stroll along the sun-dappled promenades, savoring the gentle sea breeze and the scent of blooming jasmine, you will find that Majorca is not just a destination, but a journey of the senses. It is an island that invites you to slow down, appreciate the finer details, and immerse yourself in the pure joy of discovery. For those who have seen the world, Majorca offers a fresh perspective—a reminder that true luxury lies in the simple pleasures of life, experienced in a place of extraordinary beauty.

Hotel or something better?

When traveling, a hotel might be the go-to option for solo or couple getaways. However, for families or groups of friends venturing to exotic locations, a hotel may not always be the best fit. Villas offer a more private and communal experience, ideal for enjoying time together. This setup is often more conducive to group bonding than a traditional hotel. Villas also provide better value for money compared to multiple hotel rooms, without compromising on luxury.

Privacy is another advantage of villa rentals. Unlike hotels, where you may encounter many other guests, a villa offers seclusion and a more authentic local experience. With flexible dining options and family-friendly amenities, villas cater to various needs, from cooking your own meals to enjoying local restaurants. Private pools and spacious outdoor areas are perfect for relaxation and entertainment.

Imagine waking up in a stunning villa, surrounded by the serene beauty of Majorca. Instead of the typical hotel experience, you and your loved ones could have a private retreat, complete with a pool and terrace for shared meals and relaxation. A Majorca Villa from Villa Finder offers just that and more.

New Zealand Hotel In Cambridge Embraces Lake And Forest

Published

About to leave for our scheduled tour of Hobbiton, the charming film location of the Shire, home to Frodo and company, disaster struck.

Approaching our car, I noticed the rear tire was completely flat, the result of a nail puncture. And the spare was too thin to get us there.

To make matters worse, it was our last day in New Zealand’s Waikato region so we couldn’t re-schedule. Seeing my wife’s downcast face, Hobbiton being the holiday highlight she’d been most looking forward to, I felt helpless.

That’s when staff at our hotel, Hidden Lake in Cambridge on the North Island, went into action.

Within minutes, not one but four members of staff were hard at work to save the day, two working the phones, one to find a garage, the other to see what time Hobbiton closed and if we could change our scheduled tour time, while two others rushed to the car to replace the flat tire with the reserve to get us to whatever nearby garage might be open.

Unfortunately, the first two garages contacted were too busy to help and as the minutes ticked by, all seemed lost. But aside from being a patient and kind host, hotel manager, Rajwinder Kaur, a native of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, is also a very persistent woman. Finally, looking up at our forlorn faces, she smiled. “I found one.”

This incident encapsulates the pedigree of people my wife and I were fortunate to meet on a two-night stay at this attractive family-run hotel.

Owned and operated by Chris Turner, an agricultural machine specialist, and his wife, Glenda, a former teacher, the 37-room hotel sits beside a lake partially hidden by a forest of maple, oak and Japanese cherry, a relaxing place where Glenda and her family would enjoy weekend getaways, thus the inspiration for the hotel’s name.

After leasing the building, the couple opened the hotel three years ago offering their services to both tourists and corporate clients from the nearby horse stud farms, glass manufacturing and agricultural sectors.

Our room was a comfortable one featuring a small balcony overlooking the forest with furnishings that included a large wall TV, an armchair, tea and coffee-making facilities, a mini-bar and a glass-enclosed shower.

Being environmentally conscious, pillows and duvets were made from recycled plastic, any solar energy the hotel doesn’t use is donated to the township of Cambridge, dispensers are used instead of single soaps and guests have options in their rooms to separate recyclable material from waste.

Food at the Hidden Lake Hotel is of the highest quality, with much of the produce used either coming from her uncle’s farm or the local farmer’s market.

Both dinner and breakfast are served in D’Arcy’s restaurant with views over the forest from the second floor. The latter featured a tasty whipped avocado dish comprising local goat cheese, poached eggs with focaccia and za’atar, a mix of Levantine herbs such as sesame, sumac and other spices.

The menu also featured classic eggs Benedict, Chinese bolognese, brioche French toast with mascarpone, poached pear, bacon and honey, as well as the full breakfast of bacon, chipolata, hash browns, toast and cherry tomato or Poppa’s porridge with caramelized banana, brown sugar and cream and Bircher muesli with coconut and plum. The hot chocolate I tasted, offered with or without marshmallows, was deliciously smooth and creamy.

Dinner was similarly diverse with my wife choosing starters of seared scallops and I green lipped mussels in a creamy turmeric sauce followed by mains of tagliatelle and salmon.

Kudos also go to Chris and Glenda for their innovative cocktail menu, many created by them, often reflecting real-life situations. The Lockdown Delta Variant, for example, emerged out of Covid, and comprises gin, blood orange, Bergamot, lemon juice, Aquafaba and orange bitters, all topped with tonic water. Another cocktail, Smoky Linen, emerged from an incident when a tea towel caught fire. It consists of Bailey’s, Kahlua, white and dark chocolate and creme de cacao and milk, topped, of course, with a smoky charred marshmallow.

Within easy walking distance of charming downtown Cambridge, the Hidden Lake Hotel is also a convenient stopover for tourists visiting Hobbiton, a 30-minute drive away through rolling countryside, as well as to Hamilton with its stunning, 54-hectare public garden and the geothermal park with its dramatic geysers, bubbling mud and Maori cultural experiences at Te Puia Rotorua.
