Prosecutor shoots his ex-wife judge during court hearing in Istanbul | News World
During a hearing at a busy court in Istanbul today, a prosecutor shot his ex-wife, who was presiding over a case as a judge.
At the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals in Turkey, the judge was shot in the leg by her former husband.
The judge was taken to the hospital and has received treatment, with initial reports showing she’s in good condition.
Local police have launched an investigation into the attack, with photos showing authorities swarming the courthouse just after noon today, local time.
Months ago, a similar incident happened in Albania, when a judge was shot dead after a man opened fire in a courtroom.
Judge Astrit Kalaja was presiding over a property dispute case when he was shot.
The judge later died from his injuries while being rushed to the hospital in Tirana.
A father and son, part of one of the parties in court, were also shot and taken to the hospital.
Albania’s general prosecutor Olsian Çela said: ‘Beyond the heartbreaking loss of one life and the injury of two others, this event strikes at the very foundation of justice and the functioning of the legal system.’
Judge Kalaja had served in his position for three decades, joining the Tirana Court of Appeals in 2019.
