Corrie and Emmerdale fans demand change after TV shake-up
Both ITV soaps will not air in their usual Tuesday evening slots as they have been replaced with coverage of the Carabao Cup semi-final between Newcastle United and Manchester City, from 7.30pm.
Every year, soaps tend to be axed from the likes of ITV and BBC schedules to make room for major sporting events such as the Euros and World Cup.
But although this isn’t a new move from broadcasters, it seems loyal Corrie and Emmerdale viewers have had enough and “don’t understand” why ITV can’t air a specific channel for football and wider sports as it “just makes sense”.
Corrie and Emmerdale fans demand change due to ITV soap schedule changes
In a discussion about tonight’s missing soaps “power hour”, someone on Emmerdale’s Reddit page shared: “I don’t understand how they can’t just have a football channel, they would get much more advertising revenue if they did a separate channel for football. The don’t even put the soaps on ITVX, at least give us a choice instead of taking it off.”
Another agreed: “I would turn itv quiz into itv sport to show football, horse racing rugby ect.”
This person also chimed in: “It just makes sense to do that. Plus The additional revenue for advertising they could get would pay for itself.”
A fourth opinionated soaps fan added: “yes I completely agree and then that way they could just show the highlights [of sport] on the main channel.”

But this account argued: “I watch emmerdale and Corrie but also watch football, granted I’m not watching tonight’s game as it doesn’t bother me but I also don’t care that an episode is missed.
“BBC do the same, they can’t create a channel just for a once a month thing, there isn’t enough sport unless they do repeats to warrant a sport channel.
“There’s still over 150 episodes of emmerdale and Corrie to watch, if you dont like football, just watch another show. It’s been this way for 20 odd years, it’s never going to change.”
Additionally, this X user warned soap fans to “stop being greedy” in a separate discussion and said: “its the way football is fixed im afaird its not the end of the world least u getting 5 days a week stop being greedy.”
Meanwhile, those concerned they are going to miss out on Tuesday’s Corrie episode after it has been removed from TV tonight also asked on X: “So when is tomorrows Corrie gonna be on then?”
A second questioned: “When we getting Tuesday episode.”
