A man and a woman, both in their 20s, have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 3-month-old baby

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a baby boy with a head injury. Cambridgeshire Police were called to a property on St John’s Chase in March at around 11am on January 3.

Atijus Elertaite, who was only three months old, was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. He tragically died five days later on January 8.

A post-mortem examination recorded that his preliminary cause of death was a head injury, pending further medical inquiries. A woman, aged 25, and a man, aged 22, who are both from March, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) before Atijus died.

Detective Inspector Verity McCann said: “We know the local community will be shocked and deeply saddened, and our thoughts remain with those affected by Atijus’ death.

“We are working hard to establish exactly what happened and urge everyone to be mindful and not speculate on the case, particularly on social media, as this could affect our investigation.”
