Buy the Voice AI Momentum or Sell?

Upstart Stock Surges 11% on AI Lending Momentum as 2026

NEW YORK — SoundHound AI Inc. shares jumped more than 12 percent to close at $7.85 on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, as traders bet on a potential short squeeze ahead of the company’s first-quarter earnings report expected in early May, reigniting debate over whether investors should buy the voice and conversational AI specialist or take profits amid persistent losses and lofty valuations.

The surge came on elevated volume, with the stock climbing from around $7 in early trading and extending gains into after-hours at $8.07. It marked one of the strongest single-day performances in recent weeks for the Nasdaq-listed shares (ticker: SOUN), which remain down roughly 21 percent year-to-date after peaking near $22 in late 2025. The move reflected renewed optimism around SoundHound’s agentic AI platform, recent enterprise partnerships and strong full-year 2025 revenue growth, even as Wall Street wrestles with the company’s path to profitability.

SoundHound reported record full-year 2025 revenue of $168.9 million, nearly doubling from the prior year, with fourth-quarter revenue rising 59 percent to $55.1 million. Management guided for 2026 revenue between $225 million and $260 million, signaling continued triple-digit percentage growth from earlier years. Non-GAAP gross margins reached 58 percent for the year, while adjusted EBITDA losses stood at $58.4 million. The company expects to achieve adjusted EBITDA breakeven by the end of 2026.

Analysts maintain a moderate buy consensus, with an average 12-month price target around $14.93 to $15.50, implying roughly 90 percent upside from current levels. Targets range from a low of $9 to a high of $20, according to aggregators including MarketBeat and Public.com. Firms such as HC Wainwright have reiterated buy ratings despite trimming targets, citing execution in voice AI for automotive, restaurants and now telecom and retail sectors.

The company has expanded aggressively into “agentic” AI — systems capable of handling complex workflows rather than simple voice commands. In February at Mobile World Congress, SoundHound launched Sales Assist, a real-time AI agent for retail sales floors that recommends deals and add-ons. On April 9, it partnered with Associated Carrier Group to bring agentic AI to telecom customer service and employee experience. Earlier deals include extensions with Five Guys, collaborations with Bridgepointe Technologies and Experis (ManpowerGroup), and integration with TomTom for in-car voice and navigation at CES 2026.

These moves build on SoundHound’s core technology, which powers voice assistants in vehicles, drive-thrus and smart devices. The company’s acquisition of Interactions Corp. in 2025 bolstered its enterprise offerings, though 2026 guidance has not yet fully reflected those synergies. Customer concentration remains a risk, with one client historically accounting for more than 30 percent of revenue.

Short interest has drawn attention, with some traders eyeing a squeeze similar to past AI-related rallies. Options activity showed mixed sentiment, but bullish bets increased as the stock climbed. Year-to-date, SoundHound has underperformed broader AI names amid a cooling enthusiasm for unprofitable growth stocks, yet its revenue trajectory remains among the fastest in software.

For buyers, the bull case centers on several factors. Voice AI represents a massive addressable market as enterprises seek to automate customer interactions and internal processes. SoundHound’s technology operates across automotive, hospitality, retail and telecom, providing diversification. Partnerships with established players like TomTom and major consulting firms could accelerate adoption. If the company hits or exceeds its 2026 revenue guide while narrowing losses, the stock could re-rate higher toward analyst targets. Long-term believers point to potential acquisition interest, given the strategic value of conversational AI in an increasingly agent-driven world.

Bears counter that the valuation remains stretched. Even at current levels near $8, the stock trades at a significant multiple of projected 2026 revenue. Persistent GAAP losses, negative cash flow from operations in past periods and heavy R&D spending raise questions about capital needs. Competition is intense from larger players including Nuance (Microsoft), Google, Amazon and specialized rivals. Execution risk is high for a company still scaling its agentic platform, and any slowdown in AI spending could pressure growth. High short interest can fuel volatility in both directions.

Technical traders note the stock has traded below its 50-day and 200-day moving averages for much of 2026, though the recent pop has challenged near-term resistance. Support sits near $6.50-$7, with resistance around $9-$10. Broader market sentiment toward small-cap AI names will likely influence direction, especially as investors digest upcoming inflation data, Federal Reserve signals and Big Tech earnings.

SoundHound’s next earnings, expected around May 7 for the first quarter, will be closely watched. Analysts anticipate continued revenue growth but ongoing per-share losses near 7 to 10 cents. Any positive surprise on margins, new customer wins or updated full-year guidance could spark further upside. Conversely, softer commentary on AI adoption timelines or widened losses might trigger profit-taking.

Retail investors have shown enthusiasm for SoundHound, drawn to its relatively accessible share price and narrative as a pure-play voice AI contender. Yet volatility remains elevated — the stock has seen multiple double-digit swings in single sessions. Position sizing is critical, with many advisers recommending no more than a small portfolio allocation given the speculative nature.

Institutional ownership has grown with the company’s rising profile, though dilution from equity raises and stock-based compensation has been a feature of its growth story. The balance sheet benefited from past financings, providing runway into 2026, but sustained investment in sales, marketing and R&D will be necessary to scale.

Broader sector dynamics add context. While generative AI hype has cooled from 2023-2024 peaks, practical applications like conversational agents are gaining traction in customer-facing industries. SoundHound’s focus on real-time, domain-specific voice solutions differentiates it from general large language models, potentially offering stickier revenue through multi-year contracts.

As April 2026 progresses, the decision to buy or sell SoundHound AI stock hinges on time horizon and risk appetite. Momentum traders may ride near-term catalysts such as earnings or fresh partnership announcements. Long-term investors bullish on AI infrastructure could view current levels — after the year-to-date pullback — as an entry point, especially if they believe the company can deliver on breakeven targets. More conservative participants might wait for clearer signs of profitability or a pullback to lower support levels before committing capital.

Analysts largely favor the upside, with no sell ratings in recent coverage. Yet forecasts come with caveats around execution and market conditions. SoundHound itself emphasizes its technology’s ability to deliver measurable ROI for clients through faster service, higher conversion rates and reduced labor costs — metrics that could drive adoption if proven at scale.

In the end, 2026 represents a pivotal year for SoundHound as it transitions from high-growth revenue story to a more mature operator targeting profitability. The stock’s recent surge underscores lingering excitement around voice AI, but sustainability will depend on consistent delivery against ambitious guidance.

Investors should monitor quarterly results, partnership traction and any shifts in AI spending sentiment closely. With earnings on the horizon and analyst targets pointing significantly higher, SoundHound offers both opportunity and risk in equal measure — a classic high-beta play in the evolving artificial intelligence landscape.

Whether the momentum continues or fades will likely be decided in the coming weeks, as the market weighs hype against the hard work of turning conversational AI into sustainable profits.

Fans Spot Pop Icon in Crowd Cheering A$AP Rocky Instead

Ballin' bigger than LeBron: Forbes estimates Rihanna is now worth $1.7 billion, thanks chiefly to the value of her cosmetics company Fenty Beauty

INDIO, California — Rihanna is not performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2026, dashing hopes among fans who had speculated she might make a rare live appearance or even headline after years away from the stage.

Ballin' bigger than LeBron: Forbes estimates Rihanna is now worth $1.7 billion, thanks chiefly to the value of her cosmetics company Fenty Beauty
Rihanna

The 2026 lineup, announced in September 2025, features headliners Sabrina Carpenter on Fridays, Justin Bieber on Saturdays and Karol G on Sundays — the first Latina artist to top the bill. Other major acts include The Strokes, Addison Rae, Young Thug, FKA twigs and Anyma’s immersive ÆDEN project. Rihanna’s name appears nowhere on the official poster or daily schedules released by promoter Goldenvoice.

As the festival wraps its second weekend on April 19, Rihanna was instead spotted as a high-profile attendee. She cheered on boyfriend A$AP Rocky during his surprise appearance at Doja Cat’s set on the first weekend, creating viral moments that dominated social media. Fans posted videos of the Barbadian superstar in the crowd, looking stylish in festival attire and supporting her partner without stepping onto any stage herself.

Rihanna, 38, has not toured since the Anti World Tour wrapped in 2016 and has limited her live performances in recent years, focusing instead on her Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty empires, acting roles and family life with A$AP Rocky and their children. Her last major stage moment was the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, which drew record viewership but also highlighted the challenges of large-scale performances after a long hiatus.

Industry observers and past reporting indicate Rihanna passed on headlining opportunities in recent Coachella cycles, including 2025 discussions where both she and Kendrick Lamar reportedly declined slots. Sources cited her lack of need for the exposure or financial incentive, alongside commitments to business ventures and motherhood. Bloomberg and other outlets noted similar decisions in prior years, with Rihanna prioritizing selective, high-impact appearances over festival bookings that require extensive rehearsal and two-weekend commitments.

Coachella’s demanding outdoor desert environment, shared production resources and variable weather add logistical hurdles for artists who prefer controlled arena or stadium settings. Rihanna’s performances are known for their high-energy hits, elaborate visuals and fashion statements — elements that shine brightest in dedicated tours. Rumors of a 2026 world tour or UK stadium comeback to mark the 10th anniversary of Anti have circulated, but no confirmed dates overlap with Coachella weekends.

Fans expressed disappointment when the lineup dropped without her, sparking Threads posts pleading “RIHANNA, HEADLINE COACHELLA YOU COWARD!!” and betting odds that listed her as a long-shot for surprise cameos at 20/1. As the festival progressed without a Rihanna set, attention shifted to actual surprises: Becky G joining Karol G, Lizzo and other guests popping up across stages. No Rihanna performance materialized, even as speculation lingered into the second weekend.

Her presence in the crowd still generated buzz. Videos showed Rihanna vibing to sets, with one caption noting she was “just watching and still making history.” The moment echoed past Coachella appearances where her star power amplified the event without her needing a microphone. Supporters praised her low-key attendance as proof she remains a cultural force, while others hoped for a last-minute guest spot that never came.

Rihanna’s selective approach to live shows aligns with her career evolution. Since releasing Anti in 2016, she has released only occasional singles and focused on non-music projects that have made her one of the world’s wealthiest entertainers. Fenty Beauty alone revolutionized the industry with inclusive shade ranges, while Savage X Fenty brought innovative fashion to lingerie. These ventures, combined with family priorities, have reduced her appetite for the rigorous demands of touring or festival circuits.

Music analysts suggest Coachella benefits from artists in active album cycles who can leverage the platform for promotion. Rihanna, with no new full-length project driving momentum, may view the desert slot as less essential. Goldenvoice has successfully built sellout crowds around rising stars like Sabrina Carpenter and established names like Bieber and Karol G, proving the festival can thrive without perennial superstars every year.

For Little Monsters and Rihanna’s Navy, the annual Coachella speculation has become routine. Many hoped 2026 might mark her return after the Super Bowl buzz, especially with rumors of new music. Instead, her attendance alongside A$AP Rocky reinforced her status as a style and celebrity icon who can command attention simply by showing up. Photos of the couple enjoying noodles, dancing and supporting friends circulated widely, adding glamour to the VIP sections.

Coachella 2026 has delivered memorable moments without her. Sabrina Carpenter brought celebrity cameos and polished pop anthems. Justin Bieber delivered a nostalgic, YouTube-inspired set that divided opinions but drew huge crowds. Karol G made history with vibrant Latin hits and guest spots, celebrating cultural representation. Anyma’s ÆDEN project offered immersive visuals despite weather adjustments. These performances kept social feeds active and livestreams popular on YouTube.

The festival’s appeal lies in discovery, fashion and unexpected collaborations rather than relying on any single megastar. Yet Rihanna’s absence fuels ongoing conversations about what it would take to bring her back. Past guest appearances, such as joining Calvin Harris years ago, showed her impact, but a full set would require significant preparation she appears unwilling to commit at this stage.

As of April 18, 2026, no official statements from Rihanna’s team or Goldenvoice address her non-performance. Representatives for both have not responded to inquiries. In the meantime, fans dissect her Instagram stories and crowd sightings for clues about future plans, including potential tour announcements later in 2026.

Rihanna’s career trajectory shows strategic pacing. After dominating the 2000s and 2010s with hits like “Umbrella,” “Diamonds” and “Work,” she transitioned into a multifaceted mogul. Her rare live outings become events precisely because of their scarcity. Coachella, while prestigious, competes with stadium tours, residencies or brand-driven spectacles that better suit her current priorities.

Online discussions reflect divided opinions. Some argue she has “outgrown” traditional festivals and should focus on her own productions. Others believe a Coachella headline could revitalize her performing career and introduce new music to a massive audience. Betting markets and rumor mills kept her name alive, but reality aligned with the official lineup.

The broader music industry notes that superstars like Rihanna, Taylor Swift and others often skip Coachella in favor of autonomous tours where they control every detail. Festival economics and scheduling conflicts play roles, especially for artists balancing multiple businesses and family.

As Coachella 2026 concludes, the desert sands will host another successful edition centered on its announced roster and organic surprises. Rihanna’s non-performance does not diminish the event’s cultural weight but highlights her enduring mystique — she can dominate headlines simply by attending.

Fans hoping for a Rihanna Coachella set may need to wait for 2027 or beyond, or catch her if she launches the rumored 2026 tour dates. For now, her crowd appearance alongside A$AP Rocky provided enough star power to keep conversations going long after the final set ends.

Whether she returns to the main stage in the future remains one of music’s tantalizing questions. Until then, Rihanna continues to prove that sometimes the biggest presence at Coachella is the one not performing at all.

Fears Grow for 84-Year-Old’s Survival as Abduction Enters Third Month

Published

on

Savannah Guthrie & Nancy Guthrie

TUCSON, Arizona — More than 75 days after her abduction from her Catalina Foothills home, concerns about Nancy Guthrie’s health have intensified, with medical experts warning that the 84-year-old’s survival without her critical heart medications remains highly uncertain and increasingly unlikely as time passes.

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC’s “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31, 2026, when a family member dropped her off at her residence. She failed to appear for a planned church service the next morning. Evidence at the scene — including blood believed to be hers on the porch, signs of a struggle, and doorbell camera footage of a masked intruder with a handgun — led authorities to classify the case as a targeted abduction rather than a voluntary disappearance.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and the FBI have confirmed that Guthrie left her home without her essential daily medications, including those for her pacemaker, high blood pressure and cardiac issues. Medical professionals have repeatedly described this as a life-threatening situation. Cardiologists and sleep experts have highlighted the elevated risk of heart attack, stroke or other complications, especially if she was abruptly awakened around 2 a.m. during the abduction, potentially triggering sleep inertia and added cardiac stress.

Dr. Ankur Kalra, a cardiologist, noted that Guthrie’s pacemaker indicates underlying heart rhythm problems, and missing blood thinners or blood pressure medications could quickly lead to dangerous clots or hypertensive crises. Sleep specialist Pat Byrne warned that the combination of sudden awakening, confusion and her pre-existing conditions placed her at “very high risk” of a cardiac event in the immediate hours after the abduction. As weeks turned into months without any confirmed contact or proof of life, those risks have only compounded.

Savannah Guthrie has spoken publicly about her mother’s health vulnerabilities in emotional interviews. In her first return to the “Today” show in early April, she described the family’s anguish and pleaded for anyone with information to come forward. She has expressed hope that her mother is still alive but acknowledged the growing uncertainty surrounding her medical needs.

As of April 18, 2026 — approximately Day 77 of the search — Nancy Guthrie remains missing. The FBI continues analyzing DNA evidence recovered from the home, including a hair sample and gloves with unknown male DNA, but officials clarified this week that no major new breakthroughs have emerged. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department stated that DNA testing is ongoing between a private Florida lab and the FBI, with results still pending.

Ransom notes demanding millions, some referencing Bitcoin, were received shortly after the disappearance. The family responded publicly, offering to communicate if proof of life was provided, but no verified follow-up from the abductor has been confirmed. Investigators treat the case as an active kidnapping with possible financial motives tied to Savannah Guthrie’s high-profile status.

The prolonged absence without medication has become a central focus for medical experts consulted by media outlets. A pacemaker patient missing doses risks arrhythmia, while uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to organ damage or stroke. At 84, with reported limited mobility and chronic conditions, Guthrie’s window for safe recovery narrows daily. Some physicians have described the situation as potentially “fatal” without intervention, though no official determination of her condition has been made since she vanished.

Search efforts have included extensive neighborhood canvassing, review of surveillance footage, and coordination with federal agencies. Cadaver dogs were deployed earlier but later placed on hold. Patrols in the Catalina Foothills area have increased, and authorities continue urging residents to check home security cameras from late January and early February for any suspicious activity.

The family has offered a substantial reward — reportedly up to $1 million — for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return. Additional rewards from the FBI and local crime stoppers bring the total incentive higher. Savannah Guthrie has used her platform to appeal directly to the public, emphasizing that even small details could help.

No arrests have been made, and no suspect has been publicly identified. Sheriff Nanos has cleared all immediate family members of involvement, describing them as cooperative victims. The investigation has examined possible links to the family’s visibility but treats the abduction as targeted rather than random.

Public speculation has surged online, with some unverified claims of breakthroughs quickly debunked by authorities. The sheriff’s department recently addressed false social media posts about DNA results, stressing that testing remains ongoing and no resolution has been reached.

For the Guthrie family, the uncertainty is compounded by health fears. Savannah has described sleepless nights worrying about her mother’s well-being, medication access and emotional state. Friends and church community members have held vigils, praying for her safe return while acknowledging the medical realities.

As the case enters its third month, experts in abduction investigations note that time is critical for elderly victims with medical dependencies. Without access to prescription drugs, survival odds diminish rapidly. While some abductors have provided medication in past ransom cases, no such arrangement has been confirmed here.

The FBI maintains a dedicated tip line and online portal for information. Anyone with knowledge of the abduction, sightings of Guthrie, or details about suspicious vehicles or individuals in the area is urged to contact authorities immediately. Tips can remain anonymous.

Nancy Guthrie’s story has drawn national attention due to her daughter’s prominence, shining a light on vulnerabilities faced by elderly individuals and the challenges of high-profile abductions. It has also renewed discussions about home security, medication access during crises and the emotional toll on families.

As of Saturday, April 18, 2026, hope persists that Nancy Guthrie will be found alive and that her health can be stabilized upon recovery. Medical professionals stress that even after prolonged absence, prompt medical care could mitigate damage if she is located soon.

The investigation continues with full resources from local, state and federal agencies. Savannah Guthrie has returned to her anchoring duties while remaining actively involved behind the scenes, balancing public appeals with private family support.

For now, the question of Nancy Guthrie’s health hangs heavily over the case. Without her medications and with no confirmed updates on her condition, experts remain deeply concerned. The family and authorities continue to plead for public assistance, emphasizing that one piece of information could bring her home and allow her to receive the urgent care she needs.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips online. The search for Nancy Guthrie — and answers about her health — remains active and urgent.
