Jio sets eyes on Navratri-Diwali period to launch mega $4 billion IPO
“Most likely, Jio plans to launch the IPO toward the end of October, particularly around the auspicious days during Navratri,” said a person aware of the likely timelines. “If the launch gets pushed toward the end of October, there could also be some spillover into the first week of November. If not the Navratri, the company could target Diwali for the IPO.”
Jio is likely to finalise the exact dates within a couple of weeks after which it would initiate roadshows overseas before holding them at home, said a source close to the development.
The company plans three weeks of international and two weeks of domestic roadshows, three people in the know said.
AgenciesDates to be finalised soon, company to hold several weeks of intl, domestic roadshows
Details from the DRHP
If the IPO coincides with the Navratri, which starts on Oct 11 and ends on Dussehra (Oct 20), the roadshows could begin as early as next week. Diwali falls on Nov. 8, while Dhanteras is on Nov 6.
Emails sent to the company and lead bankers remained unanswered until the publication of this report.
The company that had filed draft IPO papers in June, received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on August 28 to launch its share sale.
Shattering Records
Bankers estimate the Jio IPO could raise around Rs 37,800 crore, potentially making it India’s largest public issue.
The Jio IPO is expected to surpass the proposed Rs31,000-crore-IPO by National Stock Exchange (NSE). Hyundai Motor India‘s Rs 27,000 crore IPO in 2024 remains the largest completed IPO in the country so far.
According to the Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP), Jio Platforms plans to issue up to 270 million fresh equity shares, representing around 2.9% of its post-IPO equity capital. The proposed IPO does not include an offer-for-sale (OFS) component.
The offering will be the first IPO from the Reliance Industries group in nearly two decades, since the listing of Reliance Petroleum in 2006.
A portion of the IPO proceeds will be used to prepay up to Rs 27,500 crore of loans at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL), the operating subsidiary of Jio Platforms. The remaining proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes.
Jio Platforms may provide funds to RJIL by subscribing to its equity shares, convertible or non-convertible preference shares or debentures, or through loans, or a combination of these, according to the DRHP.
Large investors collectively hold nearly 30.9% of Jio Platforms. Jaadhu Holdings, an affiliate of Meta Platforms, owns 9.98%, while Google International holds 7.73%. Other investors include Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Vista Equity affiliates, General Atlantic, KKR-backed entities and investment vehicles of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

Gold steady before US payrolls data, heads for small weekly gain
FUNDAMENTALS
Spot gold held its ground at $4,475.75 per ounce, as of 0040 GMT. Prices jumped 2% on Thursday as traders scaled back expectations for a September rate hike after Fed Governor Christopher Waller said he would support leaving rates unchanged if data continued to show inflation pressures moderating.
U.S. gold futures for December delivery fell 0.4% to $4,522.60.
Traders are pricing in an about 50% chance of a Fed rate hike later this month, according to the CME FedWatch Tool.
Though gold is often viewed as an inflation hedge, elevated interest rates tend to weigh on the non-yielding asset.
The U.S. nonfarm payrolls report is due at 1230 GMT.
Data showed the number of Americans filing claims for unemployment benefits rose marginally last week amid low layoffs, pointing to stable labour market conditions. The European Central Bank will likely raise rates on September 10 for the second and final time in what would be its shortest hiking campaign in 15 years, according to a Reuters poll.
Among other metals, spot silver fell 0.1% to $66.88 per ounce, platinum lost 0.3% at $1,820.18 and palladium declined 0.4% to $1,415.37.
Impala Platinum said on Thursday its annual profit increased more than 31-fold, driven by higher platinum group metal prices.

Oil set for steepest weekly gain since mid-July over intensifying US-Iran tensions
Brent crude futures rose 15 cents, or 0.2%, to $95.67 a barrel at 0100 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were up 26 cents, or 0.3%, at $91.56.
On a weekly basis, Brent rose 7.1% and WTI was 9.8% higher, set for the highest gains since the week ended July 20.
U.S. attacks this week that killed and wounded dozens, including Iranian civilians, marked the fiercest clashes between the two countries since July.
The war, which began with U.S.-Israeli strikes at the end of February, is now in its seventh month.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz renewed warnings that Israel would “cripple” Iran’s military and civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance told reporters on Thursday that Washington does not plan to hold talks with Iran unless Tehran stops attacking commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.Capping oil’s advance, however, Russian President Vladimir Putin said there remained a path to a deal to end the war in Ukraine, adding that both the U.S. and China were prepared to support a peace settlement.
Meanwhile, Iran expanded its list of vessels it deems non-compliant and subject to fines, confiscation or detention if they attempt to transit the strait. Iraqi ships remain among the few vessels Tehran has cleared to pass through Hormuz.
Iraq increased its oil exports to around 2.34 million barrels per day in August from about 1.35 million bpd in July, two Iraqi energy officials said on Wednesday, with September exports also expected to increase as heavy discounts and Iranian approvals for Iraqi tankers encouraged buyers.

Jackdaw gas field set to be approved as soon as mid-September, sources say
But industry bodies argue that starting production at the sites would provide much-needed jobs and improve the UK’s energy security as overseas conflicts threaten supply.
Advocates of the project also told the BBC that Jackdaw’s output is critical to extending the life of other North Sea infrastructure including Shearwater – a large offshore oil and gas production hub that processes hydrocarbons before piping them to coastal refineries and terminals.
Adura said that if approval comes in September, the field could start delivering gas to UK homes by this winter as the construction is “99% complete”.
A public consultation on the future of Jackdaw and another new oil field, Rosebank, closed in August and the decision now rests with Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh.
Speaking in the House of Commons on Thursday, Energy Minister Kate White said that the energy secretary would make separate decisions on the two sites, but gave no indication of the timings of an announcement.
“The process ended in August, and the Secretary of State will be taking those decisions in due course,” she told MPs.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham recently said there needs to be a “pragmatic approach” towards domestic oil and gas.
“We won’t be able to stop using oil and gas for some time. That’s just a fact,” he said.
“The question is whether we can accelerate use of it so that we pay for the transition.”
