Uniswap’s founder just praised Solana — but what he’s really doing is dodging something that’s quietly eating the internet

Hayden Adams is not just any crypto personality. He’s the founder of Uniswap, arguably the most important decentralized exchange (DEX) of the last five years. What began as a quirky idea during Ethereum’s early DeFi summer turned into a juggernaut that now spans multiple blockchains. But now, he’s making headlines again — this time, not for a protocol upgrade or innovation, but for what sounds a lot like a distraction tactic.

Adams recently said Solana is the best fit for L1-only DeFi. That might seem harmless to casual observers. But for those of us who see the full board, it’s a warning sign.

Because Solana isn’t the threat Hayden is worried about.

Base is.

Uniswap v4 is now live. It’s a meaningful upgrade: more gas efficiency, native ETH support, and something called “hooks” that let developers customize liquidity pools. It even launched on Base, Coinbase’s fast-growing L2 chain. So why does it still feel like Uniswap is losing ground?

Because on Base, Uniswap isn’t leading.
