25 Greatest Deserted Island Movies, Ranked
What three things would you take with you to a deserted island? Food? A knife? A good book? This is the age-old question of childhoods past and icebreaker questions on first dates. The answer is always different depending on whom you ask: the survivalist, the romantic, or the person who would simply give up on day one.
That’s why deserted island movies are so entertaining to watch. When put in the eye of danger, every human reacts differently. Some go mad, some burn the rum to make a smoke signal, and some use every piece of sheer willpower to find a way home. Being stranded on a deserted island is both terrifying and exhilarating, no matter how many ways you’ve thought about whether you’d be able to survive or not. These legendary island survival movies showcase just how terrifying, exhilarating, and transformative that experience can be, all from the comfort of viewers’ couches.

‘Robinson Crusoe’ (1997)
Pierce Brosnan stars in the adventure drama, Robinson Crusoe, as a Scottish gentleman who is on the run from the law and being pursued by British authorities after killing a man during a duel. When Crusoe is shipwrecked and stranded on a deserted island, he must fend for himself, fighting against the harsh elements as well as the struggles that come with his isolation and memories of his former life.
Robinson Crusoe is based on the famous 1719 novel by the same name, written by Daniel Defoe, and features Brosnan in one of his most overlooked performances. The movie had a limited release that resulted in very little media and press attention, but through the years, many have credited it as one of the best adaptations of Defoe’s story and have also commended Brosnan for his mainly one-man performance. —Andrea Ciriaco

‘The Most Dangerous Game’ (1932)
When a big game hunter, Bob Rainsford (Joel McCrea), is shipwrecked on a strange island, he finds himself in the company of a reclusive and eccentric man, Count Zaroff (Leslie Banks). Initially, Rainsford is grateful for Zaroff’s hospitality, but when he and several other shipwreck survivors are forced to participate in the Count’s sadistic game of being hunted, he realizes they are all in mortal danger and tries to find a way off the island before it’s too late.
The Most Dangerous Game is a pre-Code horror film based on the 1924 short story written by Richard Connell. The movie follows an intense game of cat and mouse and is regarded as a thrilling melodrama with unwavering suspense, leaving audiences in unbearable anticipation. At the time, some of the film’s more gruesome moments were not held in high regard, but today, The Most Dangerous Game is more than suitable for a modernized audience and ranks as one of the best deserted island classic movies. —Andrea Ciriaco

‘And Then There Were None’ (1945)
When eight strangers are invited to a small, remote island by an unknown host, they arrive only because they are led to believe the host has damning information on each of them. As the guests sit down for dinner, a staff member plays a record with a man’s voice informing them that he has evidence of them all being guilty of murder. With their mysterious host nowhere to be found, the guests’ confusion soon turns to hysteria as each one of them is killed off, one by one.
Based on Agatha Christie’s iconic 1939 murder mystery, And Then There Were None is a tedious thriller that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The movie features the eerie children’s nursery rhyme, “Ten Little Indians,” which plays not only a crucial role in the story but also provides a ghostly and unsettling tone throughout the movie. With the ominous setting of the isolated island and the web of mystery and suspense, And Then There Were None will make being stranded on a deserted island somewhat appealing. —Andrea Ciriaco

‘Hell in the Pacific’ (1968)
During World War II, a Japanese naval officer, Captain Tsuruhiko Kuroda (Toshirō Mifune), becomes stranded on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean. Initially, Tsuruhiko believes he is alone, but he soon discovers an American pilot (Lee Marvin) who has crashed his plane into the island. Due to a language barrier, the two men are unable to verbally communicate, but instead, the enemies taunt one another and refuse to work together to find a way off the island. When they are both faced with starvation and dehydration, they put aside their differences and decide to help each other.
Hell in the Pacific is a war drama centered around the importance of human connection and the bond that can form between enemies in an isolated environment. This particular deserted island movie contains an insightful theme of acceptance and understanding that is rarely seen in such caliber. Despite the cast only containing two actors, both Marvin and Mifune deliver exceptional performances, each bringing a different perspective to a controversial topic and finding common ground as human beings, making Hell in the Pacific a must-see deserted island classic. —Andrea Ciriaco
21
‘Uninhabited’ (2010)
A dream vacation turns into a fight for survival in the 2010 survival horror film Uninhabited. In the movie, Beth (Geraldine Hakewill) and Harry (Henry James) decide to vacation on a secluded island, not knowing that it’s haunted by the ghost of a young woman named Coral (Tasia Zalar). The island’s natural beauty masks a dark history, and the couple soon finds themselves trapped in a supernatural struggle against a malevolent force.
While Uninhabited didn’t do anything revolutionary within the genre, it offers a fun viewing experience that horror movie enjoyers can appreciate. Hakewill’s performance as Beth is a standout, since she made Beth’s terror palpable with every line and expression. However, the film’s true star might be the island itself, with its stunning yet desolate beauty that elevates the sense of isolation and fear that both the characters and the viewers will feel.
20
‘Paradise Lagoon’ (1957)
Ever wondered what would happen if a group of posh Brits were suddenly forced to fend for themselves? In Paradise Lagoon, the Loam family, a group of hilariously inept aristocrats, and their unflappable butler, Crichton (Kenneth More), navigate the challenges of island life after a shipwreck. The social order and dynamics of the group are then turned on its head, since the family has to count on Crichton’s survival skills.
Without a doubt, More’s performance as Crichton will captivate viewers, bringing to life a resourceful butler who becomes the unlikely leader of the shipwrecked group. The movie is also incredibly funny with its satirical portrayal of the Loam family, particularly Lord Loam (Cecil Parker), who fully personifies the cluelessness of the upper class. With its witty dialogue and side-splitting moments, Paradise Lagoon is a fun deserted island film to watch for movie night.
19
‘Horrors of Spider Island’ (1960)
Horror fans shouldn’t overlook terrifying and thrilling B-movies because there are real gems like Horrors of Spider Island. The movie follows a group of dancers and their manager Gary (Alexander D’Arcy), who find themselves stranded on a remote island after a plane crash. Their worries about rescue are quickly overshadowed by a far more terrifying threat—Gary has been bitten by a giant spider and he transforms into a violent half-human, half-spider monster.
Despite its initial critical reception, which focused on its low-budget aesthetic and implausible plot, Horrors of Spider Island has garnered a devoted following over the years. That’s because it fully embraces B-movie tropes, such as laughably cheesy special effects and melodramatic dialogue. Horrors of Spider Island should be brought up when campy horror films are mentioned, since it checks off all the boxes for gloriously bad cinema.
18
‘Retreat’ (2011)
Retreat follows a couple who seek recovery from a personal tragedy that has shattered their lives. And they do so on an isolated island, away from any sort of news or civilization. Their retreat is ruined though when a stranger washes ashore to tell them that an airborne disease has rattled Europe.
Retreat is a creative twist on the deserted island genre, moving the film into the realm of the small-scale apocalyptic subgenre. It certainly brings the anxiety of a couple experiencing shocking world news after being detached from humanity for a while. And while the execution is far from perfect, it’s worth commending the intriguing premise.
17
‘The Blue Lagoon’ (1980)
One of the quintessential and staple stories of sexuality and growth on a deserted island, The Blue Lagoon has been a staple of the genre for generations, with a multitude of different adaptations over the years. The 1980s version is easily one of the most successful and recognizable versions of the story, following Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins as Emmeline and Richard, two children who find themselves shipwrecked and stranded on a seemingly perfect tropical island. As they adjust and live out their new lives on this island, the duo slowly begins to fall for one another as they build a new home.
The Blue Lagoon does a good job of adapting the themes and legacy of the classic novel to the big screen, with a powerful and timeless portrayal of love and the sanctity of youth, no matter the circumstances. While it’s certainly guilty of having levels of schmaltz and cheese that were more prevalent for these types of adventure films of the 80s, the undeniable strengths and feats of the original novel help make this adaptation stand the test of time. – Robert Lee
16
‘Six Days, Seven Nights’ (1998)
Six Days, Seven Nights combines the typical deserted island survival movie situations and puts them together into one film: pirates and a plane crash. Harrison Ford plays the grumpy and reclusive charter pilot who is hired to fly the more straight-laced Anne Heche to an emergency photo shoot in Tahiti. Soon, it turns into a movie about a couple stranded on an island, desperately trying to survive.
Their plane crashes during a storm on an uninhabited island where the two are thrown together to survive. The onscreen chemistry between Ford and Heche is what truly makes this admittedly flawed film so fun to watch—they both play their respective characters so well, leading to the perfect opposites-attract relationship in the end. The two fight off the environment, snakes, and pirates in this heartwarming and often funny, deserted island movie.

Blue Thought He Was Dad—DNA Test Allegedly Proves Otherwise
Wait… he been told us this? Back in December 2023, Blueface seemed to be settling into fatherhood. He even joyfully shared on X that he was adjusting to the idea of being Chrisean Jr.’s dad. But according to the rapper, DNA test results later confirmed that he is not actually the child’s biological father.
“Tell me why I snook an swab this baby… DNA test results came in… I am not the father smh… it’s a bitter-sweet feeling cus I was coming around to it but definitely in my best interest… thank you Jesus,” Blueface wrote. He later followed up, adding, “I can’t even pretend like I’m not happy as hell,” showing that he tried to process it with a mix of relief and acceptance.
Christen Previously Shut Down The Narrative
Chrisean didn’t hold back, having previously called out Blueface for abandoning their son. Back in October, she reminded fans that he “dipped out on Jr.” and suggested his past negative comments about their child played a role in his legal troubles. “First it was his Daddy look at him he been locked up for 2 years now our son was 6-7 month baby when his Dad lost his freedom,” Rock wrote. She also highlighted how their little one had already been through so much without a father present.

Blueface Denies AGAIN He’s the Biological Dad of Chrisean’s Son
Blueface
Chrisean Jr. Ain’t My Kid …
Get It Through your Head!!!
Published
Blueface is driving home the point he’s NOT the biological dad of two-year-old Chrisean Jr. — the son of his on-again, off-again girlfriend Chrisean Rock.
The rapper posted a message on X Thursday night, insisting “Jr is not my biological son RIP to his father Ronnie.” Blueface didn’t reveal who exactly Ronnie is … but Chrisean had an ex named Karon “Ronny Doe” Cann, who passed away in 2025.
In the X post, Blueface said he didn’t want to be discredited by being labeled an absent father, especially when he’s already very present in the lives of his 2 other children, he claims.
Blueface also said he tried to “fill in the blanks” because the child’s biological father is “no longer with us.” He went on to say he can’t “continue the plot” of masquerading as the dad, noting “it doesn’t feel right.”
Chrisean fired back on Instagram, writing that Blueface dissed her and her son by suggesting they’re “Dumb” on a livestream. She vowed to “never normalize that,” but she did not address Blueface’s claim that he’s not Jr.’s dad. She also posted, “Pray for Jonathan” — Blue’s real first name.
This is the second time Blueface has tackled this issue. In December 2023, he denied being the baby’s father months after Chrisean had given birth.
Then, in February 2025, Chrisean uploaded the results of an alleged paternity test to her son’s Instagram account, which apparently showed Blueface was the father.
The situation got even more confusing in November 2025 when Blueface called Chrisean Jr. his son on a live stream while answering questions about the paternity test.
What a mess!

Kandi Burruss Announced Her Departure From ‘Real Housewives Of Atlanta’ In 2024 After Nearly 15 Years

For those unfamiliar, Burruss announced her departure from “RHOA” in 2024 while walking the red carpet at the Grammy Awards.
At the time, she told Variety that it was time for a break after a 15-year run. She also hinted that the network’s delay in finalizing the season 15 cast played a role in her decision to move on.
“It’s been 14 seasons, and they allowed us to sit around for a little too long, but during that time I had started working on a lot of other things, and I got some nice big projects coming soon, so I’m super excited about those things,” Burruss said.

Ben Stiller Slams White House for Tropic Thunder Social Clip
Ben Stiller spoke out against the White House for using a clip of Tropic Thunder in their latest social media post following the strike on Iran.
“Hey White House, please remove the Tropic Thunder clip,” the actor, 60, wrote via X on Friday, March 6. “We never gave you permission and have no interest in being a part of your propaganda machine. War is not a movie.”
On Thursday, March 5, the official White House X account posted a clip that included Stiller’s satire movie about the Vietnam War which also starred Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. The post was a montage of other war moments from films and featured additional snippets from Braveheart, Top Gun, Superman, Transformers, Iron Man 2, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and more.
“JUSTICE THE AMERICAN WAY. 🇺🇸🔥,” read the caption.
Last weekend, President Donald Trump and the White House confirmed that the United States launched an airstrike on Iran which killed the country’s leader Ali Khamenei. Khamenei was 86. In a statement shared via social media on Saturday, February 28, Trump, 79, called Khamenei “one of the most evil people in history.”
“This is not only justice for the people of Iran, but for all great Americans,” he said at the time.
The following day, the White House gave an update on the conflict which Trump has referred to as “Operation Epic Fury.”
“Earlier today, CENTCOM shared the news that three U.S. military service members have been killed in action,” the White House said via X on Sunday, March 1. “As one nation, we grieve for the true American patriots, who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation… We send our immense love & eternal gratitude to the families of the fallen.”
Stiller is not the only figure in Hollywood to ask the Trump administration to refrain from using their intellectual property. Earlier this week, Kesha slammed the White House for featuring her song “Blow” in a pro-war video.
“It’s come to my attention that The White House has used one of my songs on TikTok to incite violence and threaten war [prior to the Iran conflict],” the singer, 39, wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday, March 2. “Trying to make light of war is disgusting and inhumane. I absolutely do NOT approve of my music being used to promote violence of any kind.”
Sabrina Carpenter also previously requested the White House to not use her song “Juno” on a video the administration used for the controversial ICE raids.

Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to Late Rob Reiner on His Birthday
The Princess Bride star Cary Elwes has shared an emotional tribute to the late Rob Reiner on what would have been his 79th birthday.
Taking to Instagram on Friday, March 6, Elwes, 63, posted a throwback photo of himself with the director.
“Today would have been your 79th birthday,” Elwes captioned the touching post. “Still hard to believe you’re gone. Missing you so much #robreiner ⚔️💔”
Rob and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead with multiple stab wounds in their Brentwood, California home in December 2025. They were 78 and 70, respectively.
Rob and Michele’s son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances in connection with his parents’ death. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently being held without bond while he awaits trial.
After news of the couple’s deaths broke last year, Elwes shared his grief via social media on December 29, 2025.

“I was 24 when I first met Rob Reiner on The Princess Bride. And from that very first meeting I fell in love with him,” the actor wrote via Instagram at the time. “I was already a fan of his work so meeting him in person was a dream come true. As we began spending more time together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life. I also knew that by casting me as Westley he was giving me the keys to the castle.”
Elwes continued, “The first thing I noticed about Rob was that he wore his heart on his sleeve. This was a man who felt deeply. Whose heart was filled with love and compassion. He wasn’t impressed by how much money you had or if you had a privileged upbringing. He just wanted to know if you were a ‘good guy.’ He always tried to find the best in people. And if that person had problems he felt bad for them. He loved his family and friends immensely.”
In the lengthy post, Elwes went on to describe how painful the loss of Rob and Michele was and shared his gratitude for what they brought to the world when they were alive.
“Thank you Rob and Michele for sharing your life and art with us,” he added. “Because my heart still aches every time I think of you, I know the grief of losing you too soon will likely never go away. Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you.”

Kelsea Ballerini Posts Amid Chase Stokes, Morgan Evans Drama
Kelsea Ballerini seemingly reacted to the drama between her exes Chase Stokes and Morgan Evans.
Taking to social media on Friday, March 6, the country singer, 32, shared cryptic posts via her Instagram and TikTok accounts.
Over on Instagram, Ballerini shared an image that read, “And for the lady, perhaps a f**king break?” She used Lenny Kravitz’s song “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over” to accompany the post.
Ballerini also posted on TikTok several hours later. In a video montage, Ballerini appears to be living her best life and dances around enthusiastically in some parts of the clip and poses in front of what appears to be a private jet in another.
Tellingly, the singer used Lady Gaga’s hit track “Telephone” as the accompanying music. The lyrics read, “Sorry, I cannot hear you, I’m kinda busy.”
Ballerini’s cryptic social media posts were posted the same week Stokes, 33, and Evans, 40, took aim at one another via Instagram.
After Evans made rare remarks about his 2022 divorce from Ballerini on the Tuesday, March 3, episode of “The BobbyCast” podcast, Stokes slammed Evans’ “masculinity.”
“This is about the most pathetic excuse of masculinity I’ve ever seen,” Stokes commented on an Instagram post shared by Bobby Bones, who was promoting his podcast interview with Evans.
Stokes, who has been dating Ballerini on and off since 2023, added, “Get a f***ing life.”
@kelseaballerini ✈️☀️🥂👯♀️🌇🎧
In the podcast interview, Evans claimed that the split from Ballerini took him “by surprise” and added that he was “not expecting” a divorce.
“That whole time is such a blur. It almost feels like somebody else, just from where I’m sitting now. I just look back and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God,’” Evans, who was married to Ballerini for nearly five years, said. “Yeah, it was just kind of a whirlwind, life-changing moment.
Bones, 45, screenshotted Stokes’ since-deleted comment and responded with an Instagram video of his own.
“If you’re going to come that hard, maybe you don’t want to take that [comment] down,” Bones said, noting that only a small part of their interview was about the divorce.
“I thought he came off really well. I thought he was very kind in his version of events. There’s three stories, right? There’s his story, her story and the real story,” Bones said. “This masculinity thing was just weird. Why would you challenge someone’s masculinity?”
Evans responded to Stokes’ sledge by posting a not-so-subtle jab at the Outer Banks actor via an Instagram post shared on Thursday, March 5.
“Feeling pretty masculine today,” Evans captioned the post. “Album out in 2 weeks!”
The social media post featured several photos of Evans engaging in stereotypically “masculine” activities, such as lifting a refrigerator over his head and looking underneath the hood of a car. In a separate video, Evans could be seen chopping a piece of wood.
Bones, who was inadvertently caught up in the drama thanks to his podcast, saw the funny side, commenting, “I laughed.”
