Last weekend, Tom Holland‘s return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend in cinema history. In total, the film made just shy of $1 billion in just a few days, the sort of total that most blockbusters can only dream of achieving. Alongside Christopher Nolan‘s historical epic The Odyssey, which also starred Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal, the two recorded the biggest weekend haul in cinema history. With last weekend proving popular in theaters, why not let yourself indulge in some movie treats from the comfort of your own couch this weekend? With that in mind, here’s a list of three movies you should stream on Netflix.

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ (2025)

Rotten Tomatoes: 17% | IMDb: 5.1/10

With every new month comes a wave of fresh options hitting the Netflix library. At the start of August, horror fans were delivered a treat in the form of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, a sequel to Blumhouse’s 2023 effort Five Nights at Freddy’s. Once again based on the lore-filled viral horror games by Scott Cawthon, this sequel follows Abby (Piper Rubio), a year on from the events at Freddy Fazbear’s, as she uncovers dark secrets behind Freddy’s origins.

Josh Hutcherson returns as Mike in this fan-favorite sequel, which fought back from critical backlash to score a huge haul at the box office. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is a simple, fright-a-minute horror flick with plenty to keep you hooked, which features a strong supporting cast including Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, Mckenna Grace, Elizabeth Lail, and Wayne Knight.

Camp Crystal Lake · Friday the 13th

Jason Voorhees

Jason is relentless, but he is also predictable — and that is the gap you would exploit.

  • He moves in straight lines toward his target. He doesn’t strategise, doesn’t adapt, doesn’t outsmart. He simply pursues.
  • Your ability to keep moving, use the environment, and resist the panic that freezes most victims gives you a genuine edge.
  • The Crystal Lake survivors were always the ones who stopped running in circles and started thinking about terrain, water, and distance.
  • You think like that. Which means Jason, for all his indestructibility, would face someone who simply refused to be where he expected.

Haddonfield, Illinois · Halloween

Michael Myers

Michael watches before he moves. He is patient, methodical, and almost impossible to detect — until it’s too late for anyone who isn’t paying close enough attention.

  • But you are paying attention. You notice the shape in the window, the car parked slightly wrong, the silence where there should be sound.
  • Michael’s power lies in the invisibility of ordinary suburbia — the fact that nothing ever looks wrong until it already is.
  • Your spatial awareness and instinct to map every room, every exit, and every shadow before you need them is precisely the quality Laurie Strode had.
  • You are not a victim waiting to happen. You are someone who already suspects something is wrong — and acts on it.

Elm Street · A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger

Freddy wins by getting inside your head — using your own fears, your own memories, your own subconscious as weapons against you. That strategy requires a target who can be destabilised.

  • You are harder to destabilise than most. You’ve faced uncomfortable truths about yourself and you haven’t looked away.
  • The survivors on Elm Street were always the ones who understood what was happening and chose to face it rather than flee from it.
  • Freddy’s greatest weakness is that his power evaporates in the presence of someone who refuses to give him the fear he feeds on.
  • Your psychological resilience — the ability to stay grounded when reality itself becomes unreliable — is exactly the quality that keeps you alive here.

Derry, Maine · It

Pennywise

Pennywise is ancient, shapeshifting, and feeds on terror — but it has one critical vulnerability: it cannot function against someone who genuinely stops being afraid of it.

  • The Losers Club didn’t survive because they were braver than everyone else. They survived because they faced their fears together, and faced them honestly.
  • You ask the questions others avoid. You look directly at what frightens you rather than turning away.
  • That directness — the refusal to let fear fester in the dark — is Pennywise’s worst nightmare.
  • It chose the wrong target when it chose you. You are exactly the kind of person whose fear tastes like nothing at all.

Chicago · Child’s Play

Chucky

Chucky’s greatest advantage is that nobody takes him seriously until it’s already too late. He exploits the gap between how something looks and what it actually is.

  • You don’t have that gap. You take threats seriously regardless of how they present — and you never make the mistake of underestimating something because of its size or appearance.
  • Chucky relies on surprise, on the delay between recognition and response. You close that delay faster than almost anyone.
  • Your instinct to treat every unfamiliar thing with appropriate scepticism — rather than dismissing it because it seems absurd — is the exact quality that keeps you breathing.
  • Against Chucky, not laughing is already winning. You are very good at not laughing.

‘Minions’ (2015)

Rotten Tomatoes: 55% | IMDb: 6.4/10

If you’re looking to entertain the whole family this weekend, then perhaps steering away from the horror genre and into the ever-vibrant world of animated agents of chaos with the Minions is your best bet. In 2015’s Minions, a prequel to 2010’s Despicable Me, nonsense-talking mischief-makers Stuart, Kevin, and Bob are recruited by supervillain Scarlet Overkill, who, of course, has a plan to take over the world.

Minions & Monsters, the seventh entry in the Despicable Me franchise, is still in theaters right now, having earned almost $450 million. With that in mind, there’s never been a better time to head back to one of the best entries in the franchise so far, with this laugh-a-minute reminder of just how great a cinematic creation the Minions are. Minions is just 91 minutes long, making for easy, quick viewing this weekend.

‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’ (2024)

Rotten Tomatoes: 83% | IMDb: 6.4/10

Who doesn’t love a neo-Western actioner to add a shot of adrenaline to their weekend? One of the most underrated of this genre in the last few years is In the Land of Saints and Sinners, which was recently added to the Netflix catalog on August 6. The movie stars Hollywood legend Liam Neeson as a retired hitman who is coaxed out of retirement when a dangerous criminal arrives in his quaint village.

Directed by Robert Lorenz and based on a screenplay by Mark Michael McNally and Terry Loane, don’t let this Irish action thriller fool you into thinking it’s a simple all-guns-blazing affair — there’s just as much detailed drama in this clever feature as there is gritty action. Neeson is great in this pulse-racing, intelligent film, which also stars Star Wars: Skeleton Crew‘s Kerry Condon, Ciarán Hinds, and Desmond Eastwood.

Michael Jackson’s Nephew Reacts to Perez Hilton Livestream

Published

on

Perez Hiltons TikTok Account Banned After His Apparent Self Harm Livestream Hospitalization

The late Michael Jackson‘s nephew, TJ Jackson, said he is “praying” for Perez Hilton’s recovery despite past tension between the blogger and the Jackson family.

“Everybody is talking about this Perez Hilton video. I haven’t seen it but from what I’ve heard it’s horrible,” TJ, 48, tweeted on Wednesday, August 5. “One thing I’ll say…He hasn’t been nice to many celebs including my family. Nevertheless I never want to see anyone broken and in such a dark place. I am praying for his healing and his health.”

The youngest son of Michael’s brother Tito Jackson spoke out following a traumatic TikTok livestream on Tuesday, August 4, where Hilton appeared to perform dangerous acts of self-harm. Miami-Dade police confirmed to Us that law enforcement officials received calls “regarding an individual who was live-streaming acts of self-harm on social media” and were then sent to Hilton’s Florida home for what they suspected was a “possible suicide” attempt.

Hilton was eventually hospitalized. His family confirmed on Wednesday that Hilton was “able to communicate” during his stay in the hospital, which they took as a “hopeful” sign for his recovery.

Perez Hilton’s TikTok account has been banned following his disturbing livestream and subsequent hospitalization, Us can confirm. A U.S. spokesperson for TikTok told Us on Wednesday, August 5, that the social media platform’s automated moderation system flagged Hilton’s account within minutes of his troubling Tuesday, August 4, livestream, flagging it to the platform’s human moderation […]

The celebrity blogger has a long history of tension with the Jackson family dating back to Michael’s death at age 50 in June 2009. When news broke that Michael suffered a medical emergency, Hilton speculated that the King of Pop was pulling a publicity stunt to get out of performing his 50 planned This Is It concerts in London.

“Get your money back,” he advised This Is It ticket holders at the time.

Hilton received a wave of backlash when Michael died and he later publicly apologized, saying in a statement that he was “genuinely feeling sorry that [Michael] died and sorry for his kids.”

In the wake of Hilton’s hospitalization, TJ expressed hope that the alarming situation would serve as a wake-up call for the blogger.

“And hopefully one day he will find his way and inspire others who make a living negative talking/slandering others to choose a different route and be better themselves, to lean into LOVE more. That’s the way to really live life to the fullest,” he tweeted.

When a fan suggested that “the underlying cause is the lack of love,” TJ agreed, replying, “Very true.”

There have been strong reactions to Hilton’s disturbing livestream and subsequent hospitalization from many of those he mocked on his website over the years.

Alec Baldwin‘s daughter Ireland Baldwin described Hilton as “a despicable human being” for allegedly disparaging her famous family in the past, even as she offered support for his recovery.

“Perez Hilton has publicaly [sic] humiliated my family for years, sexualized me from a young age, commented on my weight and body [as a child], made unforgivable comments about people in my family, drew j!zz coming out of my mom’s and friend’s mouths, and has always been a despicable human being,” Ireland, 30, wrote via her Instagram Story on Wednesday.

She went on, “But his children deserve better and a healthy father and I am so sad for all of them. I hope he gets the help he needs and heals.”

Former America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry said in a vlog on Thursday, August 6, that she forgave Hilton for “bullying” her during his “peak years” of fame.

“I also want him to see me saying that his life has value and that I wish him peace, and I don’t want anything bad to happen to him,” Curry, 44, told her Instagram followers. “I think sometimes that’s what it takes. Not your friends rallying round you, but people who should hate you saying, ‘Hey, your life has value, don’t do this.’ At least that’s what it used to be like for me because I’ve been in some dark places.”

Hilton’s family released a new statement on Thursday, in which they acknowledged that “the events of the past several days have been nearly unbearable for our family.” They confirmed that “Perez’s [three] children, niece, and sister were inside the home” moments before his livestream started, though they “immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma.”

“Our highest priority right now is helping the children begin to heal from what they experienced,” his family said. “An important part of that process is allowing them to safely return home and begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy.”

My Life With the Walter Boys’ Ashby On Shocking Love Triangle

Published

Ashby Gentry Weighs In On Alex’s Season 3 ‘My Life With the Walter Boys’ Arc After Surprise Love Triangle Change

For the past two seasons of the beloved Netflix show My Life With the Walter Boys, Ashby Gentry has been navigating an onscreen love triangle with costars Nikki Rodriguez and Noah LaLonde. Now his character, Alex, has found himself in another tricky dynamic — this time, with a different love interest.

“He’s love triangle hopping, love triangle maxing to put it in 2026 vernacular,” Gentry, 27, exclusively quipped to Us ahead of the Thursday, August 6, season 3 premiere on Netflix.

Warning: Spoilers below for season 3 of My Life With the Walter Boys.

In season 3, Alex moved on from Jackie (Rodriguez) amid her on-again, off-again romance with his brother and brooding bad boy Cole (LaLonde) and wound up catching feelings for longtime best friend Kiley (Mya Lowe). One problem? She is currently in a relationship with Dylan (Kolton Stewart), who ultimately asks Alex to take a step back from his friendship with Kylie. Alex, however, attempted to confess his feelings to Kylie but was met by an unreceptive Dylan, who literally — and figuratively — shut the door in his face.

“It’s funny because I watched that scene and I was like, ‘Oof!’ And then I thought, ‘Well, that’s what you get,’” Gentry admitted to Us. “Like the scene beforehand, he says, ‘Yes, I will stay away from your girlfriend.’ And then five seconds later, ‘Knock knock knock.’ I’m like ‘Alex, what are you doing?’ I would slam it in his fingers too. So I can’t fault Dylan there.”

From Gentry’s perspective, Alex would be counting his lucky stars if he could move forward with Kylie after that interaction.

“What do I see for their future?” he said. “I have no idea. I mean, he’s lucky if they have one after that.”

While juggling a love triangle (now twice!), Alex also found himself balancing school and his rodeo crew at Hartford. He ultimately decided to quit the crew amid tension with his teammates. Alex’s growth, according to Gentry, was inevitable.

My Life With the Walter Boys’ messy love triangle between a girl and two brothers may feel familiar — and that’s exactly how it was designed. The series, which is based on Ali Novak’s 2014 novel of the same name, follows Manhattanite Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) as she moves in with family friends following the […]

“I think people are changed more so than they change and I guess Alex has a lot happen to him,” he explained. “He’s put into a new environment with the rodeo crew at Hartford’s and I think it forces growth. … He’s just trying to survive and stay alive, so to speak, in this new world that he’s found himself in. I do think he changes, but it was sort of a natural progression.”

Sydney Sweeney’s Good Deed Revives ‘Great Jeans’ Debate

Published

on

Sydney Sweeney at the 41st SBIFF: Virtuosos Award

Sydney Sweeney set out to help families impacted by devastating wildfires in her hometown, but instead found herself pulled back into a controversy many believed had already run its course.

The actress spent the day serving meals to displaced residents in Spokane, Washington, yet online conversation quickly shifted from disaster relief to accusations that the appearance was a calculated image-repair campaign.

Even so, many fans argued the focus should remain on the people receiving help rather than the motives being assigned to the Hollywood star.

Rather than making a brief ceremonial appearance, Sydney Sweeney spent time working alongside volunteers in Spokane, Washington, where wildfires have displaced residents and strained local resources.

Partnering with the World Central Kitchen and Women and Children’s Free Restaurant, the 28-year-old helped distribute meals to those affected by the disaster.

Sweeney was joined by her boyfriend, Scooter Braun, as the pair greeted residents waiting in line for assistance. Videos circulating online showed the actress walking from car to car with bags of food, personally handing meals to families instead of remaining behind the scenes.

Her involvement appeared hands-on throughout the event, with the visit centered on supporting the relief organizations working on the ground.

However, while the humanitarian effort generated positive attention locally, the conversation on social media quickly veered in a very different direction.

Sweeney’s Charity Work Reignites Debate Over ‘Great Jeans’ Campaign

As footage of Sydney Sweeney volunteering spread online, many critics revisited the backlash surrounding her American Eagle advertising campaign from last year.

As The Blast reported, the campaign’s “good jeans” slogan, which also played on the phrase “good genes,” drew widespread criticism from some viewers who accused it of invoking themes of “white supremacy,” “eugenics,” and even “Nazism.”

For those critics, the wildfire relief effort became another chapter in that controversy rather than a separate event. Some questioned whether the timing of the “Euphoria” actress’s appearance was intended to reshape public perception.

“This is her way to absolve herself from her incredibly xenophobic jeans ad. What a way to ‘win’ over MAGA,” one commenter wrote per the Daily Mail.

Another added, “That just means she listened to her PR manager for once.” Others remained equally skeptical, with one person posting, “No, this doesn’t change my opinion of her,” while another joked, “Only if you’re in the same ‘great jeans’ right?”

A separate commenter dismissed the appearance altogether, writing, “What a great PR opportunity for her.”

Sydney Sweeney’s Supporters Say The Focus Should Be On Helping Families

Not everyone was willing to view the relief effort through a cynical lens. Many supporters argued that whatever critics believed about Sweeney’s intentions, the outcome was the same: wildfire victims received meals and support during a difficult time.

“What a fantastic role model she is for our young girls,” one supporter wrote. Another added, “Alright, Syd! Always thought she was a class act, this confirms it.”

Some fans even reclaimed the earlier controversy with humor. “Love her, the kindness is in her JEANS,” one commenter joked, while another simply wrote, “What an awesome thing to do! God bless her.”

Several people also suggested that the debate over motivation missed the bigger picture. “Whether it’s a publicity stunt or not, at least she’s doing something for people in need,” one supporter commented. Another echoed the sentiment, adding, “She’s doing something selfless. I applaud her.”

Sweeney’s American Eagle Partnership Returns To The Spotlight

As Sydney Sweeney continues to face criticism over her recent response while helping California wildfire victims, one of her biggest campaigns from earlier this summer is once again attracting attention.

As The Blast shared in July, the Hollywood star reunited with American Eagle to front its “Low Rise Season” rollout, embracing the return of Y2K-inspired denim in a series of playful ads.

Wearing everything from wide-leg and skinny jeans to boot-cut, baggy, cargo and ultra-low-rise styles, Sweeney paired the denim with simple white tanks, fitted T-shirts, denim shirts and cropped jackets while striking relaxed poses throughout the campaign.

In one video, she confidently declared, “Denim on denim is always in,” as American Eagle leaned into the revived trend.

The campaign also featured low-slung cargo pants styled to reveal branded underwear, reinforcing the nostalgic early-2000s aesthetic.

Months before the reunion, Sweeney opened up about the backlash from the 2025 “great jeans” ad and why she regretted staying silent for so long.

In an emotional interview with PEOPLE, the “Madame Web” actress admitted that she was “honestly surprised” by the reaction to the ad, insisting she participated because she genuinely loved the brand and its denim.

“I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign,” Sweeney said, adding that “many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true.”

She also acknowledged that remaining quiet only made matters worse, explaining, “I have come to realize that my silence regarding this issue has only widened the divide, not closed it.”

Reaffirming where she stood, Sweeney declared, “I’m against hate and divisiveness,” while expressing hope that people would focus more on “what connects us instead of what divides us.”

Demi Moore’s Button-Down Shirt Has 1 Detail We Can’t Get Over

It’s impossible to reinvent or upgrade some articles of clothing. At least, that’s what I thought about trusty button-down tanks. After all, they’re a wardrobe classic for a reason! However, Demi Moore recently stepped out in a design that has a unique slimming element.

While the actress’ Instagram post gave me serious style envy, it also made me do a double-take. At first glance, her button-down shirt looks pretty standard. However, the drawstring hem makes the top even more figure-flattering by skimming the waistline. Who knew one little detail could make such a major difference?

Unsurprisingly, Amazon has a similar style for under $25.

Get the Tankaneo Sleeveless Button Down Cropped Tank for $20 (originally $25) at Amazon! Please note, prices are accurate as of the publishing date but are subject to change.

It’s rare to see a drawstring built into a shirt — the detail is mostly spotted on pants — but in this trendy tank, it adds a layer of unexpected dimension. By adjusting the hem width, you can accentuate your waist. Plus, the button-down is a bit boxy, so pulling in the hem cinches you in all the right places. Even if you don’t have the smallest midsection, this shirt gives you the illusion of an hourglass figure.

A huge part of developing your personal style is leaning into timeless pieces instead of chasing every passing trend — and no one does it better than Jennifer Aniston. The actress has built a style legacy focused on wardrobe staples that always look effortlessly cool and polished. She’s often seen rocking pieces like fitted jeans, […]

Most crop tops are rather casual, but this design feels elevated thanks to the padded shoulders and crisp lapels. With the right high-waisted skirt, the crop top would be totally acceptable in an office setting. So go on, push the boundaries!

However, be warned: Amazon shoppers love this shirt so much that a few have come back to buy additional colors (and considering the price, I can hardly blame them).

“I really love this top,” one reviewer wrote. “The fit is slightly oversized, which makes it very comfortable and stylish. It looks relaxed but still flattering. The material feels nice, and it’s easy to wear with many outfits. I liked it so much that I ordered two more in black and blue.”

The Tankaneo Sleeveless Button Down Cropped Tank is far from your average button-down, and it proves that small details make a big impact on your style and confidence. It’s already in my cart, but what about yours?

Chrissy Teigen took the rich mom style to a different level, carrying a tote so roomy, it could have been a weekender. We love the woven bag style, but are looking for something more practical than a tote. This designer-inspired crossbody channels the same high-end energy, and it’s on sale right now for $59.

Teigen ran errands in Beverly Hills while wearing a denim jacket, leggings and slide slippers. She elevated the look with a massive $8,900 Bottega Veneta tote, and it took the outfit from comfy-casual to incredibly luxe. This chic bag does the same, and since it’s a crossbody, you’ll rock it daily for errands, vacations and beyond.

“I wanted the Bottega real leather handbag, but I didn’t want to pay $6,000 for it,” one Amazon shopper wrote. “I just received this handbag and I must say, I’m very impressed with how identical it looks to the real designer bag.”

Another happy fan shared, “I got it in a large for my airport travel. It holds a lot of items. Looks just like the Bottega Veneta Andiamo bag.”

It comes in dozens of colors and sizes, but if you want to dress like Teigen, opt for sleek black. Either way, this woven crossbody will be perfect for coffee runs, dinner reservations or long weekends downtown, which is why it belongs in your rotation. The deal is selling out as we type, so run!

Lindsey Buckingham On Reconnecting With Stevie Nicks

Published

on

Christine McVie

Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks have shared one of the music industry’s most complicated relationships. The former couple became key members of Fleetwood Mac, helping shape the band’s legendary success despite years of personal and professional tensions. Now, Buckingham is offering a rare update on where he stands with his ex.

Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks have a relationship marred by personal and professional conflicts. Despite breaking up in the ’70s, the two continued performing together in Fleetwood Mac, with their complicated dynamic often fueling feuds while also inspiring some of the band’s biggest and most enduring hits.

Now, the guitarist is shedding light on his current relationship with Nicks after years of tension. Buckingham was at Variety’s Power of Hollywood event on August 5, where he told E! News, “Stevie and I are talking all the time now.”

Last year, their self-titled 1973 album titled “Buckingham Nicks,” was re-released, and Nicks also made a comment, saying, “Lindsey and I started talking about it last night. This whole thing seems really like yesterday to us.”

While neither elaborated further, they seem to be in a much better place in their relationship.

Working On The Fleetwood Mac Documentary Healed Relationships

Buckingham shared that he and his former Fleetwood Mac bandmates have been working on a documentary for Apple TV, which will be released sometime in 2027.

The guitarist said the process was a “very circular healing process” for all the members. Buckingham had a falling out with Fleetwood Mac after he was let go from the band in 2018 due to internal disagreements and tensions with Nicks.

The conflict, he said, stemmed from “all the wrong reasons,” but they have since resolved their issues. “No one was happy about it, and all of that has been healed and worked out,” Buckingham shared.

The yet-to-be-titled Fleetwood Mac documentary is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Frank Marshall, and it will be the first film about the band that would be told in their own words, per the press release.

Lindsey Buckingham Confirms New Solo Album

While at the Variety event, a reporter asked the musician about a rumored album, to which he replied, “It’s not a rumor. It’s a reality.”

The 76-year-old has released seven studio albums, his last being the self-titled record released in 2021. Buckingham said that he has been working on his upcoming album for the last three years and believes it’s one of his “best works,” he told AP News.

In 2025, he teased what fans can expect, saying that it will reflect all the things he has learned from his decades of experience.

There isn’t a release date for his new album as of yet, but he confirmed it will launch after the Fleetwood Mac documentary.

Buckingham was fired ahead of Fleetwood Mac’s 2018 tour after being with them for more than three decades. Mick Fleetwood talked about parting ways with Buckingham shortly after, describing it as a “marriage that came to an end.” Nicks also spoke about it, adding, “We just couldn’t agree. And you know, when you’re in a band, it’s a team,” she said, per CBS News.

Buckingham filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates, citing breach of fiduciary duty, breach of oral contract, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage, per The Blast. He claimed the band “lost their perspective” and added that it wasn’t his choice to leave.

The dispute did not proceed to trial. Instead, Buckingham later announced that he and Fleetwood Mac were able to privately settle the matter.

In April, a report by The Blast detailed that Buckingham’s alleged stalker attacked him in Santa Monica. The musician had an existing restraining order against the woman, who reportedly threw an unknown substance at Buckingham before taking off.

On August 6, the woman was declared unfit to stand trial. The judge noted that it was “medically appropriate to treat the defendant’s psychiatric condition with medication,” citing a report from a medical professional, per Rolling Stone.

The woman, who is facing six felony charges and a misdemeanor, will be back in court later this month to determine her fate.

Stephen King’s Thrilling 5-Part Supernatural Drama Is Officially Free To Stream

Published

on

Steven Spielberg red carpet pic.

TV adaptations of Stephen King’s books are notoriously hit or miss, from the highs of Mr. Mercedes and 1990’s It, which scarred an entire generation, to The Langoliers and Under the Dome. One series that is squarely in the former is the thrilling supernatural drama Haven, which ran for 5 seasons on SyFy. The series is based loosely on King’s 2005 novel The Colorado Kid, creating a deep mythology of its own as it progresses… and now it is available to stream for free on Tubi.

‘Haven’ Uses Stephen King’s Book as a Stepping Stone into a Larger Story

When we say loosely based on King’s book, we mean very, very loosely: the murder of the titular character, 25-years prior, that drives the entire narrative of the book is merely a means of bringing FBI Agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) to the small town of Haven, Maine to investigate. Haven, naturally, is a nice, normal town where nothing strange ever happens. Right. Haven is, as its name suggests, a place where those plagued by a supernatural affliction known as “The Troubles” find refuge, a safe haven.

Your Universe Has Been Chosen
You Belong In…

Your answers point to the iconic universe your values, your instincts, and your particular way of seeing the world were built for. This is where you would find your people — and your purpose.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

You believe in the cause — in the idea that freedom is worth fighting for even when the odds are impossible and the empire is vast.

  • You are drawn to the moral clarity of a universe where hope itself is a form of resistance.
  • You’d find your people in the Rebellion — a ragtag coalition of true believers held together by conviction more than resources.
  • Star Wars is fundamentally a story about ordinary people choosing to matter in an extraordinary conflict — and that is exactly your kind of story.
  • The Force may or may not be with you. But the will to use it for something larger than yourself certainly is.

Middle-earth

Lord of the Rings

You understand, in the deepest part of yourself, that the journey matters as much as the destination — and that the world’s beauty is worth protecting even at great cost.

  • Middle-earth is a world of ancient wonder, deep friendship, and a darkness that only retreats when enough small acts of courage accumulate.
  • You would thrive here because you value the fellowship more than the glory — the road more than the arrival.
  • Tolkien’s universe rewards patience, loyalty, and the willingness to carry something heavy across a very long distance.
  • Those are not burdens to you. They are simply how you move through the world.

The Wizarding World

Harry Potter

You believe that love, loyalty, and doing what’s right are not naive sentiments — they are the most powerful forces in any world, magical or otherwise.

  • The Wizarding World is a place of wonder hidden in plain sight, where learning is transformative and the bonds you form at school follow you into every battle.
  • You would flourish here because you take both the magic and the friendships seriously — and you understand that one without the other is incomplete.
  • Harry Potter’s universe ultimately rewards those who choose to stand for something even when standing is terrifying.
  • That choice — made quietly, without guarantee — is something you understand completely.

Westeros · The Known World

Game of Thrones

You see the world clearly — its power structures, its hypocrisies, its brutal arithmetic — and you are not paralysed by that clarity. You use it.

  • Westeros is a world that rewards intelligence, adaptability, and the willingness to understand that every alliance is also a negotiation.
  • You would survive here — possibly thrive here — because you don’t confuse the world as it is with the world as you’d like it to be.
  • Game of Thrones is a story about what happens when the idealists and the realists collide. You are sharp enough to know which one lasts longer.
  • Winter always comes. You are already prepared.

The United Federation of Planets

Star Trek

You believe the future is worth building — that curiosity, cooperation, and the expansion of understanding are not just ideals but the most practical path forward for any civilisation.

  • Star Trek is a universe where the questions matter as much as the answers, and where encountering something utterly alien is cause for wonder rather than fear.
  • You would belong here because you are fundamentally optimistic about what intelligence and decency can achieve — while being honest about how hard that achievement is.
  • The Federation is the universe’s most ambitious thought experiment: what if we actually got better?
  • You don’t just hope that’s possible. You think it’s the only thing worth working toward.

The manifestations of the “Troubles” are what drive the series; a “paranormal trouble of the week” procedural, for lack of a better comparable. One person’s nightmares become physical manifestations, driving him to try and stay awake to protect others. Animals transform into human beings. Another has a living shadow that attacks and kills whatever has angered him. A woman poisons people in the vicinity when she’s stressed out. Typically, the Trouble is a response to an emotional trigger, and once that trigger has been identified, it can be sent into remission with the right coping mechanisms.

Which is where Audrey comes in, as she, for some reason, is impervious to the effects of these Troubles. That extends to Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant), a local police officer whose Trouble is idiopathic neuropathy, a condition where one cannot feel physical sensations, i.e. pain or touch. But he can feel Audrey’s touch, and the two form a bond and partner up to help those afflicted, with Audrey eventually leaving the FBI to join the Haven Police Department. They’re aided by local charming rogue Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour), with the three forming a team… and the proverbial love triangle.

But the question really is why Audrey is immune from those with Troubles, which in turn poses even more questions. Was it coincidence that she came to Haven, or was she destined to be there? Why does she feel a connection to Haven, which starts to feel less like a town and more like an entity unto itself? And why are there photos of her in Haven from years ago? It’s an overarching mystery that is intertwined with the origins of The Troubles, and she’s going to need Duke and Nathan’s help to bring the Troubles to an end, once and for all.

‘Haven’ Has a Deep Mythology With Ties to Stephen King

The depth of the Troubles they encounter is staggering, a set of imaginative maladies that keep each episode from playing out too similarly to those before or after it. It’s truly imaginative, with a well-detailed mythology that ties to the broader world of Stephen King’s works. The Troubles, inherited through bloodlines, occur in a recurring cycle of major outbursts every 27 years, a nod to the same multi-decade hibernation cycle shared by It‘s Pennywise. Other Maine towns from King’s works — Derry and Castle Rock, for instance — are often mentioned. A model of a red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury coupe appears on a desk, which looks suspiciously like the titular Christine. And in one of the more overt cases, a young boy in a yellow raincoat chases his newspaper boat, only to see it go into the gutter, letting out a blood-curdling scream when he reaches in for it…

Still, Haven stands on its own outside the King association. The relationship between the three leads has a similar vibe to The Vampire Diaries, with a very natural rapport between the three on screen. However, unlike its supernatural drama kin, where the love triangle often controlled the narrative, the focus of Haven remains on the mysteries of “The Troubles,” making the love triangle more of an engaging complementary piece than the main attraction.

The cast, led by the trio of Rose, Bryant, and Balfour, are excellent, breathing life into a host of characters that harbor their own deep secrets beneath their veneer. The one weakness of the series lies with the CGI, which is very, well, SyFy. But it’s a minor distraction, at worst, with the stories engaging enough to not have to rely heavily on it. Most importantly, it all feels somehow plausible, that despite the scope of the Troubles and Audrey’s place within it, Haven still feels grounded, a testament to Emily Rose, who shoulders the bulk of it. Haven is well worth the watch, especially now that it’s free to stream on Tubi. No “Troubles” at all.

Ryan Murphy Offers Insight Into Next ‘Monster’ Season

Published

on

Ryan Murphy at Monsters, The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story Premiere in Los Angeles

Ryan Murphy is giving insight into the upcoming season of his anthology series, “Monster,” which will explore the infamous case of Lizzie Borden. The acclaimed producer recently explained why he wanted to tell Borden’s story, sharing what drew him to the case and why he believes it continues to captivate audiences more than a century after the murders.

Ryan Murphy, who co-created “Monster” with Ian Brennan, is sharing what prompted him to take on the 133-year-old murder case that involved Lizzie Borden, who was accused of killing his father and stepmother with an axe in 1892.

Past seasons explored the stories of convicted killers Jeffrey Dahmer, the Menendez brothers, and Ed Gein. The fourth season marks a first for the anthology, as Borden was never convicted of the crimes.

In an interview, Murphy said he had a “very deep connection” with Borden’s story because he won first place at his kindergarten’s singing contest with the popular nursery rhyme, which goes, “Lizzie Borden took an axe / And gave her mother forty whacks / When she saw what she had done / She gave her father forty-one.”

“That was the first thing I ever won. So I grew up with that nursery rhyme. I’m from the Midwest. I thought everybody knew that nursery rhyme, and they did not,” Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter.

Ryan Murphy Reveals Other Notorious Women Will Appear In ‘Monster 4’

Although the upcoming season of “Monster” will focus on Borden, Murphy shared that other notorious women will also be explored in the series. “I always wanted to do something about Aileen Wuornos. I’ve always wanted to do something about the Countess Elizabeth Báthory, who Dracula was modeled after,” he shared.

Wuornos was a serial killer who murdered seven men between 1989 and 1990. Countess Báthory, on the other hand, was accused in the early 1600s of killing hundreds of young girls and bathing in their blood to maintain her youth and beauty.

Murphy said “Monster” Season 4 will focus on the “women vs. the system” and pose the question: “What made them do it? Why did they do it, if they did it?”

“That’s what the show is about. And it has three really great ‘monsters’ behind it,” he added.

The Producer Says He Isn’t Glorifying Murderers

All three seasons of “Monster” proved to be streaming successes, though they were not without controversy. Some critics accused Murphy of sensationalizing the cases and exploiting real-life tragedies.

Murphy has accepted that creating shows based on real events comes with controversy. “No matter what you do, it’s going to be controversial. That’s baked into the cake,” he said, adding, “I’m always interested in, not glorifying these characters.”

Early this year, another Murphy project, “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette,” drew criticism from the Kennedy family for the “grotesque display” of “fiction,” as previously reported by The Blast. The two seasons of his other series, “American Crime Story,” which explored the O.J. Simpson case and the murder of Gianni Versace, also caused a stir due to “inaccuracies.”

The Case Of Lizzie Borden

In August 1892, Andrew Borden and his wife, Abby, were discovered brutally murdered with an axe inside their Fall River, Massachusetts home. The only other people present in the house at that time were Andrew’s daughter, Lizzie, and their household help, Bridget Sullivan.

Authorities accused Lizzie of perpetrating the crimes after she allegedly provided inconsistent alibis and set a dress on fire days after the murders. A pharmacist also testified that Lizzie attempted to purchase cyanide one day before the killings, claiming she needed it to clean a cape.

Following a 13-day trial in 1893, Lizzie was acquitted. The all-male jury noted the pieces of evidence were circumstantial, and they couldn’t fathom how a religious woman from upper-class society could commit such horrible crimes. Despite her acquittal, Lizzie lived the rest of her life as a social outcast.

The First Look At ‘Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story’

Netflix released the first look at the upcoming season of “Monster,” sparking excitement among fans. Ella Beatty will star as Lizzie, alongside Charlie Hunnam (Andrew Borden), Rebecca Hall (Lizzie’s stepmother), Vicky Krieps (Bridget Sullivan), and Billie Lourd (Emma Borden).

As Murphy revealed, Krieps will also be portraying Countess Báthory, and longtime collaborator Sarah Paulson will play Wuornos.

“Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story” will premiere on Netflix on September 17.

Perez Hilton’s Three-Word Plea Revealed After His Crisis

Perez Hilton Hospitalized After Self Harm LiveStream

Perez Hilton is continuing to recover after a frightening mental health crisis left family, friends, and fans searching for answers.

While the celebrity blogger remains stable following his hospitalization, a longtime family friend has revealed the emotional words Hilton reportedly shared from his hospital bed.

The insider also shed light on the hours leading up to the incident, describing a day that appeared completely ordinary before events took a devastating and unexpected turn inside his Miami home.

After regaining the ability to speak in the hospital, Perez Hilton reportedly had one message for the person closest to him.

According to a longtime family friend who spoke to the Daily Mail, the celebrity blogger told his mother, “I need help.”

The insider, who has known the family for nearly 20 years, described Hilton as someone carrying an immense emotional burden despite now being in stable condition.

“He’s really suffering. He’s a man in a lot of pain. I think right now he’s focused on the physical, but it’s all tied together. No one deserves the torment he’s going through,” the source said.

Although Hilton was reportedly able to communicate clearly with his mother, the family friend believes he is still trying to understand everything that unfolded.

According to them, “He was able to articulate himself [to his mother in hospital] but I don’t think he’s quite self-aware enough yet [to understand exactly what happened].”

The insider added that Hilton “is still in a dark place as I understand it. Just very very sad,” suggesting the emotional wounds remain far from healed.

For those who know Perez Hilton best, the incident has been especially difficult to process because nothing earlier in the day appeared out of the ordinary.

“He was acting normal. That’s the thing. He was getting excited about future projects. It had been a good day up to then,” the source explained.

Like countless other mornings, the media personality reportedly spent the day at his Miami home discussing work with colleagues and exchanging messages with entertainment sources as he followed celebrity news.

Just hours later, however, everything changed. As The Blast reported, authorities were called Tuesday evening after a TikTok livestream allegedly showed the media personality covered in blood, holding a large knife, and apparently harming himself inside his residence.

Viewers quickly alerted emergency services, prompting deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Department to respond. Officers reportedly carried out de-escalation measures before remaining at the property for several hours.

According to 911 dispatch audio, authorities were responding to an apparent “suicide attempt” before Hilton was ultimately transported to a hospital for treatment.

As new details emerged, Hilton’s family revealed that protecting his children became their immediate priority.

According to a report from The Blast, relatives released a statement, disclosing that Hilton’s children, his sister, and his niece had all been inside the home shortly before the livestream began.

“When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma,” the family said.

The statement went on to explain that helping the children recover emotionally is now the family’s primary focus, noting, “Our highest priority right now is helping the children begin to heal from what they experienced. An important part of that process is allowing them to safely return home and begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy.”

Hilton’s Inner Circle Remains Searching For Answers

Even with Perez Hilton now recovering, those closest to him say they are still struggling to understand what triggered such a devastating crisis.

“There was nothing specific that happened that anyone knows of. He hasn’t been particularly depressed,” the longtime family friend said.

The insider stressed there had been no obvious professional setback or personal event that pointed toward what happened.

Instead, friends believe the pressures surrounding Hilton’s recent move may have quietly taken a heavier toll than anyone realized.

“So there wasn’t like a big event. We think it’s the stress from the move. He can get very overwhelmed sometimes. Everyone knows that. But never to this extent,” one source explained.

TikTok Blames ‘Moderator Error’ For Delay In Removing Perez Hilton Livestream

While Hilton continues to recover, attention has now shifted to TikTok’s handling of the disturbing livestream.

In a statement to Deadline, the platform acknowledged that the broadcast remained online for roughly 15 to 20 minutes because of what it described as a “moderator error,” despite its automated systems flagging the content within minutes and escalating it to its U.S. moderation team.

A TikTok spokesperson said the company also alerted law enforcement while the livestream was still active, helping prompt the emergency response to Hilton’s Miami home.

Although some viewers claimed the broadcast lasted more than 30 minutes, TikTok disputed those accounts, maintaining the initial stream lasted about 15 minutes.

The company added that when Hilton attempted to go live again, each subsequent livestream was removed within approximately 90 seconds before his account was ultimately banned for violating TikTok’s policies on self-harm and graphic content.

One Chicago, Law and Order

Everything to Know About RHOSLC Alum Jen Shah's Legal Drama

NBC is starting its fall season with several shows returning while dealing with offscreen cast exits.

The One Chicago franchise has made headlines over the years as cast members often come and go across all three shows. Before season 15 of Chicago Fire, multiple outlets confirmed that Joe Miñoso was leaving the hit NBC series, but he is still expected to appear in several episodes when the show returns.

Showrunner Andrea Newman also exited after spending more than a decade behind the scenes. News later broke that Dermot Mulroney is also leaving following his brief return in the season 14 finale earlier this year. Mulroney’s Dom Pascal was noticeably missing for several episodes throughout the season, with Rob Morgan (Andre Hopkins) taking over his position as chief at Firehouse 51.

Over on Law & Order, Detective Theo Walker (David Ajala) will be getting a new partner during season 26 after Detective Vincent Riley (Reid Scott) is written off. According to Deadline, James Badge Dale is going to be replacing Scott’s character as a new senior detective.

The outlet reported that Scott, 48, will be in “a few episodes” before his exit is official. With the departure being Scott’s choice, the “amicable” decision will likely leave the door open for Riley to return in the future instead of killing the character off.
