8 Greatest Superhero Movie Masterpieces of the Last 10 Years, Ranked

Published

on

Tom Holland pointing his spell-slinger in Spider-Man: No Way Home

Superhero movies have been one of the most successful genres of cinema in the 21st century. Though it has slowed down since its peak days in the late 2010s, superhero films are still a force to be reckoned with in cinema, especially at the box office. A host of great superhero movies have hit screens over the last 10 years, primarily from the two powerhouse franchises, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe, but only a handful of them can be called true masterpieces.

One of the most common criticisms of superhero movies is that they’re too superficial — empty joyrides with no real thematic depth. But that’s not the case with these films, as they successfully balance entertainment with artistry and bombastic effects with human emotion, creating experiences that are truly mindblowing. Here’s our ranked selection of the greatest superhero movie masterpieces of the last 10 years, including some of the most successful films of all time.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (2021)

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home is the third movie in the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy, starring Tom Holland as the wall-crawling hero. Set shortly after he was outed as Spider-Man at the end of 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, the film follows Peter Parker (Holland) as he seeks help from Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to make his identity secret again, but inadvertently causes a world-threatening crisis that pulls visitors from other realities into the MCU. Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Tony Revolori, Benedict Wong, and Marisa Tomei reprise their roles from previous films, and the movie also features Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire in familiar roles.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is essentially a crossover that brings together all the different live-action Spider-Man franchises we’ve had so far to create the biggest, most spectacular Spider-Man movie of all time. Pairing an explosive, multiversal story with heartbreaking emotional moments, the film is an effective tribute to Spider-Man’s cinematic legacy that wraps up one era of the character and opens the door to the next. Appropriately, the movie was a critical and box office success when it came out in 2021, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year, and though it technically ends the MCU’s first Spider-Man trilogy, it’s set to be followed by a new triad of films starting with 2026’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

‘Deadpool’ (2016)

A spin-off of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film series, Deadpool was directed by Tim Miller in his directorial debut and stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Marvel Comics antihero. The movie follows mercenary-turned-test-subject Wade Wilson (Reynolds) as he hunts down the people responsible for his abilities, disfigured appearance, and the kidnapping of the love of his life, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and more appear in supporting roles.

A long-awaited superhero comedy, Deadpool was a cultural phenomenon when it hit theaters in the 2010s, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film up to that point and a resounding critical success. Anchored by Reynolds’s lead performance, it’s a witty, irreverent, and wildly fun movie with a lot of heart and an equivalent amount of guts. Action-packed yet surprisingly poignant, the film is easily one of the most popular superhero movies of all time, and it stands out with its wry, meta comedy and fourth-wall-breaking satire of the genre.

‘The Batman’ (2022)

Directed and co-written by Matt Reeves, The Batman is a DC superhero film that reboots the Batman franchise, introducing audiences to a new version of the hero played by Robert Pattinson. The movie follows Batman as he investigates a mysterious serial killer targeting Gotham City’s rich and powerful, uncovering long-buried secrets about the city and his own family. The film also stars Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell in significant roles.

Essentially a mystery-thriller film that takes Batman back to his detective noir roots, The Batman was a critical and commercial success when it hit theaters in 2022, earning praise for its gritty narrative and effective performances, as well as its cinematography and music. It’s a dark and brooding crime movie that earns its longer-than-usual runtime with its gripping story, and though it may not top Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight for the title of greatest Batman movie, it is one of the most authentic depictions of the character outside of the graphic medium. The Batman also inspired The Penguin, a spin-off series starring Colin Farrell that premiered on HBO in 2024, and a sequel, The Batman: Part II, is expected to arrive in 2027.

Based on your answers, the Marvel hero who matches your spirit, values, and instincts is…

🕷️ Spider-Man

You carry the weight of the world on shoulders that are younger than they should have to be. Funny, loyal, and endlessly self-sacrificing, you do the right thing not because it’s easy — but because no one else will. You understand that responsibility isn’t a burden you choose; it’s one that finds you. Whether it’s a neighbourhood mugging or a multiverse crisis, you show up. Peter Parker’s lesson — that great power demands great responsibility — isn’t a slogan to you. It’s the code you live by, even when it costs you everything.

😈 Daredevil

You fight in the shadows between law and chaos, guided by a fierce moral compass that refuses to let the guilty walk free. Deeply principled and intensely focused, you use every tool available — your mind, your body, your faith — to protect those the system overlooks. You’ve looked into the darkness and chosen not to become it, though the line has never been easy. Matt Murdock’s duality — champion in the courtroom, devil in the alley — mirrors your own: relentless, conflicted, and unwilling to stop.

🤖 Iron Man

Brilliant, driven, and occasionally insufferable — but always the person who solves the unsolvable problem. You lead with your mind and back it up with resources, innovation, and a stubbornness that borders on heroic. You started out looking out for yourself, but somewhere along the way the world became your responsibility. Tony Stark’s arc — from ego to sacrifice — is your arc too. You build, you plan, and when the moment comes, you’re willing to give everything. Because in the end, you’re Iron Man.

💀 The Punisher

You’ve been through fire that would break most people — and it did change you, completely. What’s left is unyielding, relentless, and operating by a code that the world may not agree with but that you’ve forged in grief and conviction. You don’t ask for forgiveness, and you don’t expect gratitude. You see a corrupt, broken world and you’ve decided to do something about it, consequences be damned. Frank Castle’s war is born from love twisted by loss — and so is yours. Uncompromising and unflinching.

⚡ Thor

Powerful, proud, and on a lifelong journey to become worthy of the legend you carry. You lead with strength but have learned — sometimes painfully — that true greatness comes from humility, growth, and protecting others rather than seeking glory. You’re larger than life, yet more vulnerable than you let on. Thor’s story is one of transformation: from arrogant prince to worthy king, from isolated warrior to beloved protector. You bring the storm when it’s needed — and the warmth when it matters just as much.

🛡️ Captain America

You believe in something bigger than yourself — and you fight for it even when the world has moved on and nobody else will. You don’t bully the small guy, and you never stop when it gets hard. Steve Rogers didn’t become a hero when he got the serum — he was always one. So were you. Your strength isn’t in your fists; it’s in your refusal to compromise what’s right, no matter the cost. In a world full of people taking the easy road, you’re the one who picks up the shield and stands up — every single time.

The first film of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe, Superman was written and directed by Gunn, with David Corenswet starring as the iconic title character. The film follows Clark Kent / Superman (Corenswet) as he faces off against his archenemy Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), simultaneously exploring Clark’s budding romantic relationship with fellow reporter Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). The movie also features Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and more in supporting roles.

Most people expected Superman to be a success when it hit theaters in July 2025, but the film still managed to surprise critics and audiences everywhere with its wholesome, warm, and timely story. Hopeful, inspiring, and true to the essence of Superman’s character, the film isn’t just a superhero movie; it’s a celebration of humanity’s best instincts, a film that encourages viewers to be the best we can be without being naive or condescending. Easily one of the greatest superhero movies of the 2020s so far, the film is set to be followed by a sequel, Man of Tomorrow, that’s scheduled to arrive in 2027.

Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an animated film about Miles Morales, a young boy bitten by a spider and granted superpowers. After meeting a Spider-Man from another universe, Miles teams up with a team of multiversal Spider-People to save his world from the plans of the Kingpin. Shameik Moore leads the voice cast as Miles, with Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Luna Lauren Vélez, John Mulaney, Kimiko Glenn, Nicolas Cage, and Liev Schreiber in supporting roles.

A groundbreaking animated film that combines computer animation with hand-drawn comic-book-style illustration, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse may not be the first animated comic-book movie, but it is the first to capture the aesthetics and energy of its source medium. The film was a massive worldwide success when it hit theaters in 2018, grossing over $394 million and earning universal acclaim. The film also won several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and inspired a multimedia franchise that includes 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is set to arrive in 2027.

‘Logan’ (2017)

Directed by James Mangold, Logan is a neo-Western superhero drama that’s the third and final movie in the Wolverine trilogy. Starring Hugh Jackman as the titular mutant hero and set in a dark near-future where mutants have been decimated, the film follows an aging Logan and a terminally ill Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) as they try to protect a young mutant named Laura (Dafne Keen) and get her to a safe haven. Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and more appear in key supporting roles.

Widely hailed as one of the best superhero films ever made, Logan is a heartbreaking film about mortality, legacy, and redemption that concludes the Wolverine saga with beauty, grace, and graphic violence. The movie’s bittersweet story is brought to life through compelling performances, particularly by Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen. The film also balances its emotional depth with tightly-choreographed action sequences that earn its R-rating, and it was both a critical and commercial success in its day, receiving several accolades.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Endgame is a sequel to 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, with the two films working together as the concluding chapter of the MCU’s Infinity Saga. Set five years after the villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) erased half of all life in the universe, the movie follows the surviving heroes as they attempt a risky time-travel heist to bring back the dead. The film’s massive ensemble cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, and many more.

Avengers: Endgame is the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time because of its status as the final film in a decade-long saga, but it’s one of the greatest superhero movies of all time because it is also a masterpiece. The film successfully captures both the massive scale of the MCU and the individual emotional beats of specific heroes, creating a cinematic experience that’s simultaneously spectacular and heartfelt. Sure, there’s plenty of fan service and quipping, but the performances, visuals, and music — not to mention the solid scientific research that went into crafting its story — make it an undeniable triumph of the superhero genre.

Directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is an MCU superhero film that’s a sequel to his 2018 hit Black Panther. The film is set in the advanced nation of Wakanda, which is devastated by the death of its king, Black Panther / T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), and follows T’Challa’s family and friends as they deal with a new Vibranium-weilding threat: the superhuman Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía), king of the underwater nation of Talokan. Letitia Wright leads the ensemble cast as Princess Shuri, with Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Michaela Coel, Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, and more in key roles.

Though initially planned as a straightforward MCU sequel, the death of Chadwick Boseman changed everything for Wakanda Forever, and the film Ryan Coogler made is a lot more than just a sequel. A profound meditation on grief and a worthy tribute to the late star’s legacy, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a truly elevated film that looks and operates like a superhero movie, but transcends the genre with its powerful narrative. The film was a huge box office success and earned critical acclaim, winning several awards, including an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers First Look Reveals 10-Year Time Jump, New Villain, and Green Ranger Mystery : Coastal House Media

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Sparks Wild Fan Theories From Man-Spider to Jean Grey : Coastal House Media

Marvel Studios hasn’t officially said much about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but after the first trailer dropped, fans are already convinced it’s hiding some major reveals.

From a possible Man-Spider transformation to the long-rumored arrival of the X-Men, the internet is breaking down every frame for clues. While nothing has been confirmed, several theories have quickly gained traction and could hint at where the MCU is heading next.

A Darker Peter Parker Has Fans Thinking “Man-Spider”

One of the biggest talking points from the trailer is the noticeably darker tone surrounding Peter Parker.

Quick shots appear to show:

  • A more aggressive Spider-Man

  • Subtle physical changes in his appearance

  • A loss of control over his powers

That has led many fans to speculate Marvel could be adapting elements of the “Man-Spider” storyline, where Peter undergoes a disturbing mutation tied to his spider abilities.

In Marvel Comics, the Man-Spider arc has been explored in several forms, often depicting Peter losing control as his powers evolve beyond what he can manage. While the MCU has never tackled this concept directly, the trailer’s tone suggests something more physical and unstable could be happening to him.

Symbiote Rumors Are Back Again

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Spider-Man theory cycle without talk of the black suit.

Following the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where a fragment of the Venom symbiote was left behind in the MCU, fans have long expected that storyline to pay off. The Brand New Day trailer has only added fuel to that fire.

Some viewers believe the darker visuals and Peter’s behavior could hint at early symbiote influence. Others think Marvel may combine elements of the symbiote storyline with a Man-Spider-style mutation, creating a new hybrid take on Spider-Man’s transformation.

While there’s no direct confirmation of Venom appearing, the groundwork has clearly been laid.

Sadie Sink’s Role Is Already a Mystery

Another major topic of discussion is Sadie Sink’s casting.

Marvel has yet to reveal who she’s playing, but that hasn’t stopped speculation from running wild. The most popular theory right now is that Sink could be portraying Jean Grey, which would mark a massive step toward introducing mutants into the MCU.

The idea has gained traction online, especially as Marvel continues to build toward a post-Secret Wars future that likely includes the X-Men.

However, not everyone is convinced.

Other theories suggest she could be:

  • Firestar

  • A version of Mary Jane Watson

  • A completely original MCU character

  • Or another lesser-known Marvel figure being reimagined

At this point, her role remains one of the film’s biggest mysteries.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day [credit: Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures]

A Possible Turning Point for the MCU

If even part of these theories prove true, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be more than just another Spider-Man sequel.

The film appears to pick up with Peter completely isolated following the events of No Way Home, where the world forgot his identity. That emotional reset creates the perfect setup for a darker, more vulnerable version of the character.

It also opens the door for larger changes in the MCU, whether that’s the introduction of the symbiote storyline, a new phase of Spider-Man’s evolution, or even the early stages of mutant integration.

Nothing Is Confirmed… But That Hasn’t Stopped Fans

As with most Marvel trailers, it’s important to note that none of these theories have been confirmed.

Still, the reaction online shows just how much anticipation is building around Brand New Day. Whether it delivers on these ideas or takes things in a completely different direction, one thing is clear:

Marvel has everyone paying attention again.

HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Officially Reveals First Look at Harry on the Quidditch Pitch

Published

on

8-Simple-Rules-Kaley-Cuoco-Katey-Sagal

HBO’s brand-new Wizarding World just got its tantalizing first look. Revealed via social media and available to view below, Dominic McLaughlin‘s titular Boy Who Lived can be seen donning the red and gold of Gryffindor on a cloak sporting his name and number, holding his Nimbus 2000, and ready to take to the Quidditch pitch, perhaps for the first time. In front of him are a group of students taking to the stands, holding flags from their respective houses. The caption on the post simply reads, “Tomorrow,” followed by a lightning bolt, signifying that we’re getting our biggest glimpse yet at the new series in just 24 hours.

The upcoming HBO adaptation of all seven of the Harry Potter novels is scheduled to debut in early 2027 and has already added several exciting names to the cast. This includes Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, as well as recent additions Orson Matthews as Oliver Wood, Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell as Katie Bell, D’Angelou Osei-Kissiedu as Graham Montague, Dylan Heath as Adrian Pucey, Cornelius Brandreth as Terence Higgs, and many more.

One addition to the cast yet to be confirmed is Lord Voldemort, with his full-bodied appearance in the series likely not until Season 4, giving the casting team plenty of time. At the moment, the supposed front-runner for the role is Paul Bettany of MCU fame, who is reported to be HBO’s preferred candidate to portray He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. In a recent interview, Bettany said, “I haven’t heard anything about that [playing Voldemort] …. I’m a big fan of the [Harry Potter] IP, and I’m a big fan of HBO, but nobody has called me up about that.”

Controversy Surrounds ‘Harry Potter’

Of course, the upcoming series is shrouded in constant controversy thanks to consistent comments made by the magical franchise’s creator, J.K. Rowling. These comments have left a shadow over production and caused many in the cast and former stars from the film series to speak out.

Sadly, this isn’t the only controversy surrounding the series, with actor Essiedu, who is portraying Snape, admitting he has received death threats because of the color of his skin in backlash to his casting. Essiedu admitted, “I’ve been told, ‘Quit, or I’ll murder you.’ The reality is that if I look at Instagram I will see somebody saying, ‘I’m going to come to your house and kill you.’ While I hope I’ll be okay, nobody should have to encounter this for doing their job.”

Equal parts chic and practical, Kidman’s shoe look is quickly gaining traction — and the best part is, you don’t have to spend big to get in on it. Below, we rounded up our favorite under-$60 pairs from Keds, Cushionaire and more that you can snag on Amazon now.

14 Ballerina Sneakers to Nail Nicole Kidman’s Style

1. Our Favorite: These lace-detail sneakers tap perfectly into the ballerina trend without feeling overly precious. The ribbon-style laces and soft silhouette give that balletcore energy, while the cushioned sole provides comfort for all-day wear.

2. Runner-Up: These organza lace-up sneakers are the statement version of the ballerina trend. The sheer ribbon ‘laces’ and textured details give the shoes a soft, dainty vibe that turns even jeans and a tee into a full look.

3. Celeb-Approved: For ballet sneakers that give off Kidman’s same off-duty airport energy, go for these low-profile ones. They instantly mirror that easy, put-together vibe the actress nails every time she steps off a flight.

4. Designer-Looking: These slip-on sneakers look strikingly similar to the designer versions popping up everywhere right now. It’s the same sleek, low-profile silhouette and strap detailing that gives an elevated, ballet-meets-athleisure feel.

5. Everyday Essential: Easy and effortlessly cool, these are the ballet sneakers you’ll end up wearing more than you planned. The clean, go-with-everything design makes getting dressed feel almost too easy!

6. Sporty Chic: Sporty, lightweight and easy to throw on, these retro-inspired sneakers are made for days when you’re constantly on the move. The breathable mesh keeps things cool and the clean, minimal design means they’ll match everything from leggings and sweats to denim and an oversized blazer.

7. Coquette Platform: Playful, flirty and just a little extra, these platform sneakers fully lean into the coquette aesthetic. The subtle platform adds height without sacrificing comfort. Plus, the shoes have a lightweight and breathable design, which is ideal for warm days.

8. Ballet Hybrid: Delicate meets sporty! These ‘sneakerinas’ are the perfect example of why this versatile trend is everywhere right now. The slim, rounded shape and bow details give that soft, ballerina feel. Just pair the sneakers with straight-leg jeans, a baby tee and fitted blazer for a celeb-worthy look.

9. Off-Duty Ballet: Delicate up top, grounded on the bottom, these model-off-duty sneakers offer a mix of feminine and functional that makes them easy to style. They work surprisingly well with oversized pieces, like slouchy trousers and blazers, too.

10. Travel Perfect: What’s sleek, understated and refined? These ‘sneakerina’ shoes, of course. The lightweight, flexible feel makes them especially ideal for travel; they’re easy to slip on and off at the airport, and comfortable enough for long walks through the terminal.

11. Forever Classic: Whether balletcore is trending or not, these classic lace-ups are a closet staple. The lace style leans into the feminine trend without looking too dancer-like. If you ask Us, they’re light, easy and a little bit nostalgic.

12. Office-Ready: Polished enough for work, comfortable enough for everything after, these slip-ons are a no-brainer for those ‘what to wear’ days. The clean, minimal design keeps them looking put together with trousers, midi skirts or even a blazer moment.

13. Statement Piece: These aren’t your basic everyday pair — they’re a full-on statement. The mix of textured panels (think suede-meets-smooth finishes), contrast stitching and retro-inspired color blocking turns even the simplest outfit into a photographable look.

14. Chunky Cool: These platform sneakers bring instant attitude, thanks to the thick, lifted sole that adds height and presence. They have that cool, off-duty energy that work well with leggings or jeans.

Miley Cyrus Attends Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Premiere

Miley Cyrus turned the clock back 20 years as she hit the red carpet for the world premiere of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special!

The 33-year-old actress and singer shimmered in a silver dress and Hannah’s signature blonde bangs on Monday, March 23, at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles.

Cyrus is celebrating 20 years of Hannah Montana with a new reunion special, looking back at the hit show with guest stars including Selena Gomez and Chappell Roan. The special is set to premiere Tuesday, March 24, on Disney+ and Hulu, exactly 20 years after the very first episode of Hannah Montana premiered on the Disney Channel.

Monday’s red carpet event was full of nostalgic moments as Cyrus posed on the red carpet with former Hannah Montana costars Shanica Knowles (Amber Addison), Anna Maria Perez de Tagle (Ashley Dewitt), Cody Linley (Jake Ryan), Jason Earles (Jackson Stewart) and Moisés Arias (Rico Suave).

Completing the magical night, Cyrus was also joined for the occasion by her fiancé, Maxx Morando, with whom she cozied up on the red carpet, and members of her family. Mom Tish Cyrus, Tish’s husband Dominic Purcell and sister Brandi Cyrus were all spotted on the red carpet.

Cyrus has been cooking up a Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special since last year, she recently revealed to Variety.

“I learned this terrible habit — but I actually think it was good advice — from [godmother] Dolly [Parton],” she told the outlet earlier this month. “She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no.  So I just started promoting a Hannah Montana 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist.”

“I think even Disney  sometimes forgets the connection between me and Hannah,” she continued. “It’s not just a TV show. I see daily how important Hannah is to people. When I travel, people bring me Hannah merch. They ask, ‘Are you ever going to do another season?’”

One person who won’t be part of the reunion is Emily Osment, who played the best friend of Cyrus’ Miley Stewart in the hit show.

In an Instagram video on Monday, Osment said she was unable to take part in the special — nor Monday’s red carpet event — because she is filming CBS sitcom Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon.

“We’re at Georgie & Mandy … and that’s why I was not able to be part of the 20-year reunion, because we are here shooting our show,” she said.

Osment added, “But I wanted to say hello and thank you to everybody that has stuck by us for all these years. I’m so grateful that you guys all still love the show. I’m so proud to be a part of it.”

Why Emily Osment Missed Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Show

Published

on

Hannah Montana fans are getting ready to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary, but one familiar face will be absent: Emily Osment.

The actress, who played Lilly Truscott, the best friend of Miley Cyrus’ Miley Stewart in the show, shared the disappointing news in a Monday, March 23, Instagram video.

“Montana, have you ever heard of the show Hannah Montana?” she asked her Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage costar Montana Jordan in the clip. Jordan responded that he’d “never heard of it,” prompting Osment, 34, to explain that “tomorrow is the 20-year anniversary of the premiere.” (Hannah Montana premiered on Disney Channel on March 24, 2006.)

Jordan, 23, asked his costar, “Where are we at right now, though?” referring to the set of CBS’ Georgie & Mandy, a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory prequel series Young Sheldon.

Is Yellowstone’s Dutton Ranch a Real Place? Filming Location Explained

Published

on

With so much focus on the Dutton Ranch in various Yellowstone shows, is the location at the center of Taylor Sheridan‘s hit TV franchise a real place?

Yellowstone, which premiered in 2018, introduced viewers to the fictional Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana. As the fictional universe grew, so did the amount of Yellowstone shows located at the ranch, which is actually known as Chief Joseph Ranch.

Rancher Shane Libel and his family previously spoke about how Yellowstone producers scouted the location.

“[Taylor] looked around and said, ‘That’s the bunkhouse right there,’” Libel told TV Insider in 2022. “He started walking around and calling out scenes as he saw them. ‘Episode 1, Act 3 here!’ And an assistant was writing everything down. The location director looked at me and said, ‘I think you have it.’”

Since Yellowstone debuted in 2018, the story of the Dutton family has had enough potential to inspire six spinoffs (and counting) to add to the Paramount Network roster — but with that has come delays. Yellowstone focuses on a powerful family that runs the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. Amid their success, the […]

In addition to Chief Joseph Ranch, Yellowstone and 1923 filmed in Utah and the real-life Crow Indian Reservation. The Yellowstone franchise, meanwhile, has expanded to include 1883, The Madison, Y: Marshals, The Dutton Ranch, 1944 and 6666.

Keep scrolling for everything to know about the real Dutton Ranch:

Where Is Dutton Ranch Located?

Yellowstone and 1923 were filmed at Chief Joseph Ranch, which is a working cattle ranch in Montana. Libel and his loved ones currently reside on the property that is five hours away from Yellowstone National Park.

“This is the real deal. This is what makes this show sing, is that this lodge has actually become a character in our show,” Yellowstone set decorator Carla Curry said in a 2021 video while filming the show. “This is not a set. This is not on stage. This is a private home that we are lucky enough to be in.”

She continued: “It is historically an unbelievably irreplaceable home. So we’re proud of it, we want to keep the integrity of it, and we wanna honor our additional cast member here.”

As the man behind Yellowstone and its myriad spinoffs, Taylor Sheridan is one of the most important people at Paramount Network — but the Yellowstone universe is only one part of his empire. Who Owns Chief Joseph Ranch?

Libel has owned the Chief Joseph Ranch since 2012, telling TV Insider, “We fell in love with it [and] the history, the buildings — just the ranch itself.”

The rancher was on set while Yellowstone was in production. (The main lodge featured on the show used to be a bed and breakfast but has since become Libel’s home.)

“The most surreal thing in the world — and the most humbling thing in the world is when you’re sitting in your own living room watching a show that’s filmed in your house,” Libel said in a 2021 Yellowstone promotional video.

During most of 2025, fans could travel to Chief Joseph Ranch before it closed to guests for the winter months. Visitors could stay at guest cabins, which would allow them to tour the location.

The Chief Joseph Ranch offered a Lee Dutton Cabin, the Rip Cabin and the Fisherman’s Cabin — with a nightly rate of over $1,000 for each. Chief Joseph Ranch’s website noted that the Lee Cabin was built in 1916 and overlooks the Bitterroot River.
