Ariana Grande Gets Green Light To Hunt Down Music Hackers

Published

on

31st Annual Critics Choice Awards

Ariana Grande’s legal efforts to punish those responsible for leaking her unreleased music are gaining momentum.

The singer was granted a motion on Tuesday that will accelerate the subpoena process to identify the individuals behind the alleged illegal leaks.

The lawsuit, initially filed late last month, alleges that 45 unreleased songs were leaked in 2023 alone. It further claims that hundreds of unreleased tracks have been leaked since Grande began her music career in 2011.

After suffering multiple instances in which her unreleased music and videos were leaked online by hackers, Grande recently scored a small legal victory that could fast-track the process of putting an end to the leaks.

The singer had earlier filed a proposed order for expedited discovery, which would allow her to quickly subpoena information that could help identify those responsible for the leaks.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark H. Epstein granted the request, waiving the typical waiting period attached to such subpoenas.

“Given that there is no one to whom notice can be given anyway, it makes little sense to wait the 16 days,” the judge ruled. “And on the merits of the motion, good cause is shown.”

As to why Grande’s attorneys made the ex parte application for expedited discovery, they explained that it was intended to prevent further leaks and to quickly identify those responsible.

“There is an increased risk that additional content will be stolen or sold, and that the account, subscriber, and login data needed to identify Defendants will be lost,” the filing stated.

Their argument partly centered on the need to subpoena certain online platforms and third-party services connected to the alleged hacking activity as quickly as possible.

These include social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, and Discord, as well as payment services such as PayPal and Cash App. The singer is not accusing any of these companies of wrongdoing.

Grande’s lawsuit over the leak of her unreleased music was filed in July. In it, she claimed that anonymous hackers broke into the personal digital accounts and devices of her photographers and producers using stolen login credentials and phishing schemes.

She noted that in 2023 alone, around 45 songs she had not yet publicly released were stolen or leaked. Over the years since her 2011 debut, that number has reached the hundreds, which she claimed had caused her “irreparable harm.”

Now, serving the subpoenas could take several weeks or months, and it remains unclear how those served will respond. Regardless, the case is due back in court on January 25 for a status hearing, which will assess the case’s current progress and determine what needs to happen next.

In a 2024 interview, Grande personally expressed how upset she was about her songs and videos being leaked.

“Before I left for Wicked, the few studio sessions that I did — which are all over TikTok, thank you so much. I’ll see you in jail, literally,” Grande noted at the time on the Zach Sang Show.

She also discussed how a song, “Fantasize,” made for a TV show, was leaked on the video app.

“‘Fantasize’ comes out,” she said. “Comes out. Crazy. Was stolen — by thieves, pirates, or illegally. I’ll pay you more to put it away, to get it back.”

The singer went on to say that there was a positive side to the leak, as she took what people liked about it and incorporated those ideas into Eternal Sunshine.

News of Grande taking a break from the spotlight has been swirling for a while, and the singer sought to address it earlier this month during a performance at Chicago’s United Center.

“It is something that I had decided to plan that I had quietly made a long time ago, and it’s a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place,” the singer said of her proposed break.

“Human beings can need a break sometimes. And also, this can be and will continue to be the greatest experience of my professional and creative life,” she added.

Keith Urban’s Love Life Takes Unlikely Turn As Ex-Wife Moves On

Published

on

After nearly two decades together, Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman officially separated from Grammy Award winner Keith Urban, bringing their 19-year marriage to a close.

Following the divorce, the country star, who was initially secretive about his romantic life, has allegedly embraced single life and is said to be having a great time as he becomes more active in the dating scene.

Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman has begun turning the page to the next chapter of her life, as she is reportedly embracing love while rumors of a possible romance swirl.

Kidman officially filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025, starting the process that ended their almost two-decade-long marriage, allegedly due to marital difficulties.

The divorce would be finalized in January 2026, but not without tension behind the scenes, particularly surrounding their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.

Before the separation, sources reported that the former couple encountered friction in the divorce proceedings.

“Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s split wasn’t finalized without tension behind the scenes,” an insider told the Enquirer. “Ahead of reaching a divorce settlement, the longtime couple clashed over custody of their teenage daughters.”

Despite the issues early on in the process, through negotiations both parties eventually landed on the same page and came to an agreement on custody before the split became official.

The Singer Is ‘Having A Blast’ On Tour As He Is Now Back In The Dating Scene

According to the publication, the country music singer is having “a blast on the road” and has finally become active in the dating scene months after his separation from Kidman.

A source said, “Keith doesn’t have a whole lot of downtime when he’s on tour, but when he does, he definitely has a good time.”

The singer is often amidst his friends and longtime fans, and his “party” doesn’t stop even after he exits the stage.

“He’s got all sorts of friends who come out to the shows, and then afterward, there is usually a party, and there are always plenty of beautiful women invited,” the publication’s insider explained.

Urban is said to be, as a matter of fact, “absolutely dating” and is actively seeking out romantic entanglements as he’s reportedly offered up his personal contact to women while flirting.

Until the recent insider confirmation, Urban was reported to be going to great lengths to keep his romantic life private.

The “Blue Ain’t Your Color” singer allegedly had “non-negotiable” rules for anyone he was romantically involved with following his split from Kidman.

A source in a report to Globe Magazine described him as being “extra secretive” and said that “any woman who goes out with Keith has to sign a very detailed non-disclosure agreement.”

The country music star would only entertain prospects who were willing to come over as opposed to meeting them in public.

Urban is said to have taken these steps out of respect for Kidman and his two kids.

He “admits that having these sorts of rules for his love life makes things more complicated, but for now at least, that’s the only way this will work for him. He wants to keep things as amicable as he can for the sake of the girls.”

Recent sources now say that Urban is ready to “play the field” without consideration for Kidman, as the actress has “clearly moved on”.

While he was initially romantically linked to a female country music singer, those rumors were quickly shut down. However, there is a possibility he might soon come out with a new significant other as Kidman publicly moves on with her love.

While the Grammy winner explores new romantic adventures, Kidman has also reportedly started her own new chapter.

Earlier reports have suggested that the Oscar-winning actress is taking a break from romance following her high-profile divorce from Urban.

Sources noted the actress was not rushing to date anyone. As noted in a publication by Parade, she was “focused on the things that make her happy, like family and work”.

More recent reports indicate that Kidman’s sentiments surrounding romance post-divorce have since changed, as the actress is “embracing love”.

Rumors surrounding a possible romance with private equity investor Michael Reinstein started surfacing after they were photographed “cozying up” together in Italy in July 2026. The actress has not officially confirmed the rumors.

Gleb Savchenko’s Girlfriend Pulled Into Explosive Custody Battle

Gleb Savchenko at The White Lotus Season 3 Premiere

“Dancing With the Stars” pro Gleb Savchenko’s new relationship has become a flashpoint in his increasingly complicated custody battle with ex-wife Elena Samodanova. Samodanova raised concerns after learning that their teenage daughter, Olivia, was reportedly living in a property connected to Savchenko’s girlfriend, Trujillo. The professional dancer insists Olivia is safe and wants the court to consider the teenager’s wishes. Meanwhile, Samodanova is pursuing international proceedings to have her daughter returned to Hong Kong.

Samodanova claimed Savchenko only disclosed Olivia’s location after being ordered to provide the information. “My greatest concern remains Olivia’s safety and current living environment. Gleb disclosed Olivia’s location only after the Court ordered him to provide her address and contact information,” Samodanova told Us Weekly.

She added, “The address he provided confirmed that our teenage daughter is living in a property owned by his girlfriend, rather than in a permanent home maintained by him.” The outlet reported that it verified the address included in the court documents and found that it matched a residence linked to Trujillo.

Samodanova, who currently resides in Hong Kong, then addressed what she said she had learned about the homeowner’s career. “I subsequently learned that the homeowner works in the adult-entertainment industry. I do not judge her profession. My concern is Gleb’s judgment as a father and whether this is an appropriate and stable environment for our teenage daughter,” she continued.

Savchenko was first romantically linked to Trujillo in January, when they were photographed kissing following his split from Brooks Nader. Samodanova stressed that Olivia’s “safety, stability and future come first,” adding, “I will continue through every legal channel available to bring my daughter safely home.”

Gleb Savchenko Says Olivia Is Safe And Supported

Savchenko pushed back against his former wife’s concerns and argued that Olivia, who turns 16 in November, should have a say in where she lives. “My daughter’s safety, stability and well-being are my absolute priority. Olivia is safe, supported and surrounded by people who love and care for her. Most importantly, she is nearly 16 years old and has expressed her own wishes regarding where she wants to live,” he told Us Weekly.

The dancer said he intends to handle the dispute through the courts instead of continuing the public back-and-forth. “I respect that there are ongoing legal proceedings, and I intend to address those matters through the appropriate legal channels rather than litigating our family situation publicly,” Savchenko added.

He also expressed disappointment that his girlfriend and her personal life had been pulled into the custody disagreement. “I am disappointed to see unrelated personal matters and third parties brought into a deeply private situation involving our daughter. I will not respond by attacking Olivia’s mother or anyone else publicly,” Savchenko said. “My focus remains on supporting Olivia, protecting her well-being, and ensuring that her own voice and wishes are heard through the appropriate legal process.”

Judge Pauses The Los Angeles Custody Case

Savchenko secured a temporary procedural win when a judge stayed the Los Angeles custody case and declined to order Olivia’s immediate return to Hong Kong. The decision was not a final custody ruling. Instead, the California proceedings were paused because Samodanova filed an application under the Hague Convention alleging that Olivia was wrongfully retained in the United States.

“This is no longer simply a custody dispute,” Samodanova said following the hearing. “My daughter’s wrongful retention is now the subject of active Hague Convention proceedings, and the Los Angeles custody case has been stayed while that process moves forward.”

According to the Hague Conference on Private International Law, a ruling under the 1980 Child Abduction Convention concerning a child’s return does not determine the merits of the underlying custody dispute. That means the international proceeding will address the return and jurisdiction questions surrounding Olivia. It will not decide which parent should ultimately receive custody.

Both Parents Have Made Competing Allegations

Savchenko filed an emergency request in Los Angeles in July seeking temporary sole legal and physical custody of Olivia and permission to enroll her in a Los Angeles-area high school, according to Us Weekly. The dancer reportedly claimed the former couple had agreed that Samodanova and their daughters would move to Hong Kong temporarily, then return in 2024. Samodanova disputes his account and maintains that Hong Kong became the children’s established home.

She subsequently requested primary custody and alleged that Savchenko unexpectedly canceled Olivia’s flight back to Hong Kong. Savchenko, however, maintains that Olivia wants to remain in Los Angeles. Samodanova continues to argue that her daughter should return to the life she had been living overseas.

Neither parent’s allegations have resulted in a final custody determination.

Savchenko and Samodanova share Olivia and their younger daughter, Zlata. The former couple ended their relationship in November 2020 after 14 years of marriage. They finalized their divorce in October 2021. Samodanova later moved to Hong Kong with the children and has since welcomed another child with her partner, Vlad Kvartin.

For now, Olivia will remain in the United States while the Hague Convention proceeding moves forward. The stayed Los Angeles case could resume after the international dispute is addressed, leaving the former couple’s larger custody battle unresolved.

Shaquille O’Neal Can’t Land Action Roles In Hollywood

Published

on

Shaquille O'Neal

Shaquille O’Neal has made a name for himself as an NBA legend, businessman, and entertainer, but he has his sights set on another challenge: action movies. The former basketball star has repeatedly expressed interest in landing roles in major franchises, including Marvel. Despite his enthusiasm, however, O’Neal says there’s one “big” obstacle standing in between him and his Hollywood ambitions.

Shaquille O'Neal

Shaquille O’Neal has proven to be a true multi-hyphenate, building successful careers in sports, music, and business. The former athlete has ventured into acting, appearing in a few roles in the past.

O’Neal wants to add more action roles to his resume, but filmmakers and movie executives have repeatedly rejected him over the years. In an interview with Variety, O’Neal revealed why it has been difficult for him to nab an action role, or any role for that matter.

“I would love to do more action roles, but we were told by top Hollywood executives that I’m too big,” he explained. He stands at just over 7 feet tall, making him an unusual presence on the big screen, where actors of his stature are rarely seen. However, it may not be his height that remains a hindrance.

“What they mean by that is when I pop up on the screen everyone will go, ‘Oh, that’s Shaq!’ So, if I’m trying to play a doctor or anything, my character won’t be believable,” he said.

The Former Basketball Player Faced Rejection From Marvel

O’Neal was eager to appear in the “Avengers” franchise, once jokingly saying that he wanted to “kick Robert Downey Jr.’s a-s.” He decided to shoot his shot at landing a role, but unfortunately, he was rejected.

O’Neal said he talked to someone at Marvel who told him that despite how much they love the sports star and wanted to have him in a movie, they couldn’t do it.

“They were like, ‘Shaq, we f-ckin’ love you, and we’d love to put you in, but if your face pops up on the screen people are going to go, Hey, that’s Shaq!’ He said it truthfully, and I was like, alright… I guess my face is too bigtime,” O’Neal said.

Shaquille O’Neal Portrayed A DC Superhero

Despite being rejected for a role in “Avengers,” O’Neal got the chance to play a DC superhero, taking on the role of Steel in the 1997 film of the same name.

The movie centers on John Henry Irons, a brilliant engineer who creates a high-tech suit of armor and becomes the superhero Steel.

“Steel” bombed at the box office, earning about $1.8 million worldwide on a $16 million budget. Reviewers criticized O’Neal’s acting, while comic book fans slammed the filmmakers for straying from the source material. The film has a 4 percent rating on the Tomatometer and 19 percent on the Popcornmeter.

In 2017, “Steel” writer and director Kenneth Johnson said he was opposed to having O’Neal as the lead from the start, but the studio wanted to proceed. “He was a big persona and great role model for kids and all that, but he’s no movie star,” Johnson told Vice.

The NBA Star Has Several Movies In His Filmography

Before “Steel,” O’Neal appeared in starring roles in two movies, “Blue Chips” and “Kazaam.” In the years that followed, the NBA legend appeared in several other movies in minor roles or as a cameo.

Some of his other movies include “The Wash,” “Grown Ups 2,” “Blended,” and “Hubie Halloween.” He also appeared as himself in movies such as “Good Burger,” “He Got Game,” “Scary Movie 4,” “The House Bunny,” “What Men Want,” and “Hustle.”

O’Neal is now setting his sights on appearing on the big screen alongside Dwayne Johnson. “I want to do a movie with The Rock so I can beat him up,” he said.

Meanwhile, he is busy with other projects. He founded a professional dunking league, with the search for the world’s best dunker set to be chronicled in the upcoming series “DUNKMAN,” which premieres August 25. He also executive produced the docuseries “Game Day Murders,” a true crime show that examines crimes in the sports world, which is currently streaming on Max.

The 6 Best Psychological Thrillers Released Since 2010, Ranked

Published

on

Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as U.S. Marshals investigating a case in Shutter Island

Psychological thrillers are a hard deal to pull off for the creators. They have to make complete sense while being eccentric. This is why they’re at times just plain weird to some people. And they’re definitely not for everybody. Usually, psychologically stimulating movies, good or bad, are at their best when the danger starts inside somebody’s interpretation of reality. A locked hospital can become a conspiracy. A missing child can turn desperation into moral collapse. But that’s not all.

The six films on this list reward attention long after the central mystery has been understood. Their strongest ideas live in memory, guilt, desire, obsession, class, identity, and the stories people invent to survive themselves. Some leave the audience disturbed. Others leave you arguing over motives for hours. All six are ridiculously difficult to shake. These are not for the short attention-spanned or weak-hearted. Let’s get started.

‘Shutter Island’ (2010)

Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as U.S. Marshals investigating a case in Shutter Island
Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as U.S. Marshals investigating a case in Shutter Island
Image via Paramount Pictures

Shutter Island follows U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he travels to Ashecliffe Hospital in 1954 to investigate the disappearance of a patient from an institution for dangerous criminals. The hospital sits on an isolated island, a storm cuts off communication, and nearly everyone Teddy questions seems to know more than they are willing to say. His investigation also carries personal weight through memories of his wife and his fixation on Andrew Laeddis, the man he believes destroyed his life. If I tell the name of the person who played Andrew, I’d spoil it for you so let me withhold that information.

Dennis Lehane’s novel gave the film an ideal foundation for paranoia, while the atmosphere turns every corridor, notebook, cigarette, and guarded answer into possible evidence. Teddy is emotionally raw enough that his certainty never feels comfortable, and the hospital’s elaborate architecture mirrors how desperately he needs one version of reality to remain intact. The pleasure of revisiting Shutter Island comes from noticing how openly the movie was communicating all along. So make sure you watch it once for the mystery. Return later for the tragedy sitting underneath it.

‘Prisoners’ (2013)

Hugh Jackman looking angry in Prisoners.

Two young girls disappear during a Thanksgiving gathering in Prisoners, leaving their families with almost nothing beyond an RV that had been parked nearby. Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) begins following the evidence, while Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) becomes convinced that the vehicle’s driver knows where the children are. When the police cannot hold their suspect, Keller decides that waiting for lawful proof is an unacceptable risk and begins pursuing answers through increasingly brutal means.

The film keeps the audience painfully close to Keller’s logic without making his choices easy to defend. That tension is the whole nightmare. Hugh Jackman gives Keller the desperation of a parent who has turned certainty into survival, while Jake Gyllenhaal’s Loki keeps pushing through mazes, old crimes, damaged witnesses, and details that refuse to line up neatly. Roger Deakins’ rain-soaked Pennsylvania imagery makes houses, parking lots, and empty roads feel permanently exhausted. Prisoners is heavy, precise, and deeply involving. Set aside the evening, follow every clue, and prepare to question how far sympathy should really stretch. There’s this one particular scene of Jackman where he improvised his intensity while punching the wall and it literally scared his co-stars.

‘Burning’ (2018)

Burning begins with Jong-su (Yoo Ah-in), an aimless young man in South Korea who reconnects with childhood acquaintance Hae-mi (Jeon Jong-seo) and agrees to care for her cat while she travels to Africa. She returns with Ben (Steven Yeun), a wealthy, calm, and strangely unreadable man whose lifestyle feels completely removed from Jong-su’s own financial uncertainty. Then Hae-mi disappears, and one unsettling conversation leaves Jong-su convinced that Ben may be hiding something far darker than casual arrogance.

Haruki Murakami’s short story Barn Burning provides the seed, though the film expands it into a study of class resentment, loneliness, masculinity, and the terrifying uncertainty of believing something without being able to prove it. Ben is frightening through composure rather than overt menace, while Yoo Ah-in lets Jong-su’s suspicion grow alongside humiliation and envy. Even Hae-mi remains partly unknowable, which is important in a story filled with men assigning meaning to her absence. Burning moves slowly and uses that patience beautifully. Give it room and the unease keeps accumulating long after individual scenes appear to have ended.

‘Black Swan’ (2010)

A close-up of Natalie Portman dancing in Black Swan
Image via Searchlight Pictures

Black Swan centers on Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman), a technically gifted ballerina chosen to perform both the White Swan and Black Swan in a major production of Swan Lake. The White Swan fits the control and discipline Nina has spent her life perfecting. The Black Swan demands sensuality and freedom that she cannot produce through technique alone. Rehearsals intensify while her mother, artistic director, and fellow dancer Lily (Mila Kunis) each become connected to a different part of the pressure closing around her.

Natalie Portman’s Oscar-winning performance captures how completely Nina has built her identity around perfection. Her body becomes something to discipline, inspect, punish, and eventually distrust. Lily represents an ease Nina cannot manufacture, while the relationship with her mother reveals how little space she has been given to develop outside ballet. It’s honestly a beautiful movie and genuinely nasty in the same breath.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

The Handmaiden introduces Sook-hee (Kim Tae-ri), a young pickpocket recruited to help a con man steal the fortune of wealthy heiress Lady Hideko (Kim Min-hee) and is set in Korea during Japanese colonial rule. Sook-hee enters Hideko’s secluded estate as her new maid, while the plan requires the two women to become close enough for manipulation to look like trust. The household already contains its own forms of control, and every person inside it seems to be performing a role for someone else.

Park Chan-wook adapted Sarah WatersFingersmith by relocating the story from Victorian England, adding colonial identity, language, architecture, and sexual power to an already intricate deception. The film revisits events from different perspectives, allowing gestures that first seemed innocent to acquire completely different meanings once another person’s knowledge becomes visible. Kim Min-hee and Kim Tae-ri give the relationship emotional force that keeps the elaborate plotting from becoming a puzzle for its own sake. The Handmaiden is sensual, funny, cruel, and enormously clever without losing its heart.

‘Gone Girl’ (2014)

Gone Girl is a movie made with mystery and psychological thrill on steroids. It begins when Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) disappears on the morning of her fifth wedding anniversary and her husband Nick (Ben Affleck) becomes the center of the investigation. Their marriage has already been damaged by unemployment, infidelity, resentment, and the collapse of the glamorous New York life they once shared. Nick’s lies make him look increasingly suspicious, while Amy’s diary appears to tell the story of a woman becoming afraid of the man she married. Soon the case belongs as much to television audiences and public opinion as it does to the police.

Gillian Flynn adapted her own novel for David Fincher, and preserved the vicious argument about marriage that gives the thriller its staying power. Nick and Amy originally fell in love through idealized versions of themselves, then became furious when ordinary life exposed the performance underneath. Rosamund Pike gives Amy intelligence, rage, and control without reducing her to one easy label, while Ben Affleck’s Nick understands too late that public perception can become another form of evidence. Gone Girl is wickedly entertaining, darkly funny, and uncomfortably recognizable whenever love starts sounding like image management. Few modern thrillers invite this much discussion after the credits.

Fall fashion is all about warm hues, interesting textures and gold-tone embellishments that make clean, classy outfits look positively rich. The same goes for your footwear, which is why brown flat shoes are expected to be everywhere this fall — and we’re already seeing signs of it ahead of the season.

Ballet flats, Mary Janes, slingbacks and loafers are all projected to be huge in September, giving Us that sleek, cool-girl style that even celebrities are reaching for. In fact, stars like Scarlett Johansson and Zoe Saldaña have introduced the look into their wardrobes as we transition from summer to fall. Plus, we’ve seen style icon Katie Holmes don brown flats year after year, so it’s no surprise that the trend is back with vengeance. To get ahead of the curve, we’re shopping the style now, and we discovered elevated fall styles from Rothy’s, Adidas, Quince, Vivaia, Franco Sarto and more.

13 Editor-Approved Brown Flat Shoes for Fall

1. Our Favorite: We’re starting strong with a classic ballet flat that can work for office days, errand runs and beyond. These popular shoes have a cushioned insole, giving you the comfort you need for all-day wear.

2. Runner-Up: Not quite ready to give up summer? Same! These mesh Mary Jane flats dabble in summer-to-fall wear, thanks to the woven exterior, gold buckle and trendy autumnal shade.

3. Going Viral: The coolest girls we know are wearing tabi flats like these from Cushionaire. The polarizing trend has a split-toe design that makes a big statement with little effort.

4. Two-in-One: You may have seen ballerina sneakers on celebs and fashion people this summer, and the look isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. This brown sporty-chic style gives you the comfort of trainers with a feminine appearance, so you’ll wear them with jeans, maxi dresses and more.

5. Editor-Loved: Us Weekly editors are big Rothy’s fans, with some wearing the classic Mary Janes constantly. This upgraded pick has not one but two instep straps for a major French twist.

6. On the Wild Side: We can’t say we’re mad that animal-print styles are back in fashion, especially when they look as good as these ballet flats. The cow-like print teeters the line between the fall trend and the popular pattern, so you can nail both styles in one go.

7. Rich Mom: Fall and suede go together like peanut butter and jelly, which is why we’re swooping up these Franco Sarto slingbacks ASAP. The soft exterior, strappy details and saddle tan shade are *chef’s kiss*.

8. CEO Vibes: Everyone needs a fall shoe that goes from the boardroom to after-hours drinks, and these Quince slingbacks are it. The Italian leather base and modern square-toe front feel polished and sleek. Oh, and shoppers confirm they’re comfortable, too!

9. Boho Babe: Everything about these leather flats feels bohemian from the brown hue to the woven details. We can see them styled with cropped linen pants now and a denim maxi skirt come fall.

10. Soft Statement: You’ve seen ballet flats but probably none that look like they belong on a stage. Made with a dainty bow and criss-cross straps, these Sam Edelman flats give off major ballerina vibes. Pair that aesthetic with a maple ginger hue, and you’ve got yourself a trendy shoe that you’ll wear all season.

11. Instant Upgrade: If you want a polished work shoe that stands out, opt for these Marc Fisher slingbacks that have a croc embossed design. The accent alone makes the shoes look ten times the price.

12. Celeb-Approved: This is not a drill: The same Mary Jane flats Holmes wears in the fall are in stock at DSW right now. They have a square toe, suede exterior and a large buckle accent that can be spotted from a mile away.

13. Quite the Charmer: There’s something about wearing loafers that gives off major collegiate vibes, aka the universal fall trend. These Lucky Brand loafers are classic with a saddle strap, semi-pointed front and a minor heel that gives you just a tiny lift.

Bohemian style that’s effortlessly cool is exactly the kind of vibe we’re going for when piecing together an everyday athleisure collection. The only problem? The California-esque style can sometimes come with a hefty price tag, especially when browsing elevated retailers like Free People. Now, that doesn’t mean we have to give up on the carefree look just yet; we did a little outsourcing and found easy breezy styles that’ll make you do a double take, starting at $19.

Everything you love about the Free People style is hiding on our list below, which features two-piece sets as well as individual tops, bottoms and athletic dresses with boho details that look almost identical to the real thing. And because we still love the Philly-based retailer, we also included a few athleisure pieces that are actually on Amazon! Browse our favorite easy-going picks that are perfect for picking up the kiddos, running errands, working out and beyond.

17 Free People-Style Activewear Pieces on Amazon

1. Our Favorite: There’s something about this two-piece matching set that simultaneously feels rich yet easygoing for that classic Free People style. The racerback tank is body-hugging, while the loose drawstring pants are ideal for farmers’ markets or yoga classes.

2. Sporty-Chic: The collegiate Ivy League look is back again for fall, and this quarter-zip top and shorts set leans heavily into the vibe. We’ve seen so many Free People pieces with bold striped patterns and fun color combos, like this.

3. Everyday Ease: Exposed stitching is a Free People tell-tale, which is why we instantly added this athletic top to our cart. It looks like a plain shirt from the front; however, the visible threads and open-back design totally set it apart.

4. Comfort MVP: Cargo pants used to be considered ‘ugly’ but not anymore! Celebs like Jennifer Lawrence and Emily Blunt are styling the look again, and this athletic pair brings the style to the hiking trail or grocery store aisle.

5. Designer-Looking: We almost gasped when we saw this Free People-inspired set on Amazon. The cropped top overlay and jogger pants look just like the ever-popular Hot Shot Crossover Set (but for much less).

6. Anything But Basic: Athletic dresses tend to be a little tight, unless you find a loose and comfy option like this one. The easy, breezy dress flows right over your body; however, it has secret shapewear underneath to hold you in while playing pickleball or mini golf.

7. Top Seller: With over 15,800 five-star ratings, it’s clear that Amazon shoppers adore these high-waisted leggings. The crossover waist, flared leg and chocolate brown color are so Free People. Oh, and the flattering details seal the deal.

8. Versatile Find: Travel days, errand runs and meditation sessions can all be done while wearing this ultra-comfy jumpsuit. Read: You’ll wear it constantly. We especially love the layering capabilities, which are ideal for summer and fall.

9. Mix and Match: Surprise! Free People is actually on Amazon, and this long-sleeve staple is one to snap up fast. The soft, breathable fabric, slimming fit and crew neckline make this find the perfect layering top. Wear it under a ’90s-inspired tank dress, denim jacket or ski pullover.

10. Leg-Lengthening Magic: We love a distressed-looking skirt that feels right at home at the high-end retailer. The best part(s) about this skirt is that it has built-in shorts, an asymmetrical leg and a leg-lengthening hem.

11. Winter Must-Have: Celebrities like Martha Stewart love a half-zip sweater, and this Free People option gets you in on the trend. The color-block details and sporty style give it an après-ski moment that we’ll be wearing on and off the slopes.

12. Soft Statement: This is one of the most interesting-looking athletic dresses we’ve seen by far. The exposed bra, ruched accents and loose fit go so well together.

13. Two-in-One: If you’re looking for loungewear that transitions seamlessly to outdoor wear, you have to check out this bohemian-like set. The color, style and silhouette appear so similar to the Hot Shot Relaxed Set.

14. Travel Must-Have: There’s nothing worse than flying internationally on a chilly plane. This top-selling two-piece lounge set is the solution; it’s cozy, soft and effortlessly chic.

15. Everyday Ease: Free People has loose cropped pants, but we actually like this Amazon find better. The wrap hem feels inherently boho, giving the pants a fun, unexpected twist.

16. Same But Different: If you like the skort style featured above, you’ll adore this two-piece set. It has the same lived-in aesthetic with the addition of a muscle tank top. It takes care of the styling, so you can be out the door in minutes.

17. Last But Not Least: Rolled hems and off-the-shoulder designs are part of the Free People blueprint, so people might think you got this athleisure set at the actual retailer. It comes in five solid colors; however, we like the creamy white best.

Hayden Panettiere’s Boyfriend’s Bizarre Videos Resurface

Published

on

Hayden Panettiere Holds Hands With boyfriend Brian Hickerson at Dinner

Videos showing Brian Hickerson appearing to slur his words have resurfaced as authorities continue investigating the death of his girlfriend, Hayden Panettiere. Hickerson originally posted the unusual clips to his Instagram Story in May and June, months before Panettiere was found unresponsive at a Greenville, South Carolina, rental. The footage does not establish that Hickerson was intoxicated or connect him to Panettiere’s death. Her official cause and manner of death remain undetermined as authorities await additional testing.

In one video obtained by TMZ, Hickerson imitated an unidentified woman who allegedly told him that he sounded drunk. He then filmed himself preparing to post a song on social media while apparently discussing and disregarding potential copyright concerns.

Another video showed Hickerson driving through a fast-food restaurant and questioning an employee about the customer ahead of him. Hickerson reportedly asked whether the woman was attractive and attempted to obtain information about her order.

During the clip, he also claimed that he had flirted with an employee at the restaurant before learning that she was 17 years old. He said he continued driving after discovering her age. Although his speech appeared slurred in portions of the videos, there has been no official determination about whether he was under the influence when he recorded them.

Hickerson Was At The Rental When Panettiere Died

Hickerson was inside the Greenville rental on August 16 when Panettiere was found unresponsive. His brother, Zach Hickerson, said he became concerned after he could not reach either of them following church that morning.

“When I left church, I called and texted both of them. When I didn’t reach Brian or Hayden, I just assumed maybe they fell back asleep, so I drove over and went to the Airbnb. When I got there, I knew the code to the building but not the door code to the Airbnb,” Zach told TMZ.

Zach reportedly knocked loudly enough to wake Brian, who had been sleeping on a pull-out couch bed. The brothers then checked on Panettiere and discovered that she was unconscious.

Hickerson Reportedly Administered Narcan

Zach said he “immediately called 911 and Brian gave her Narcan.” Narcan is a brand of naloxone used to reverse a suspected opioid overdose. However, its presence or administration does not prove that Panettiere used opioids or that an overdose caused her death. Zach said he and Brian “performed CPR while 911 was on speaker until Fire and EMS arrived.”

According to an official release from the City of Greenville, first responders were dispatched to the residence shortly before 2 p.m. following a report of an unresponsive woman. Emergency personnel attempted to provide medical assistance, but Panettiere was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 36.

Hickerson later addressed Panettiere’s death through his attorney, Sloan Ellis of the Ellis Hinton law firm. “Hayden’s death remains under investigation and it is important to allow that investigation to proceed,” the statement read. “As has been publicly reported, police confirmed there were no signs of foul play. Out of respect for Hayden’s loved ones and the ongoing investigation, there will be no further comment at this time.”

Ellis previously worked as a federal prosecutor and has experience working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI. Her history with those agencies does not indicate anything about the findings in Panettiere’s case.

DEA Assists With Investigation Into Actress’ Death

The DEA has joined the investigation, which is being led by the Greenville Police Department with assistance from the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. According to ABC News, the DEA is assisting rather than serving as the lead agency.

A police report noted that it remained unknown whether Panettiere had used drugs or alcohol before her death. Hickerson reportedly showed officers a bag containing medications she had been taking.

Dispatch audio also included emergency personnel discussing a possible overdose, but that description was preliminary and does not represent a medical finding.

The DEA’s participation similarly does not confirm that narcotics contributed to Panettiere’s death or that criminal conduct occurred.

Autopsy Found No Signs Of Trauma

Hayden Panettiere

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy after Panettiere’s death. Coroner Mike Ellis said there were no visible injuries or signs of trauma that contributed to her passing. Preliminary findings also showed no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances. Her official cause and manner of death remain pending toxicology results and additional studies.

Those findings will be necessary to determine whether medication, alcohol, illegal substances, a medical emergency or another factor contributed to her death. The resurfaced videos may raise questions about Hickerson’s condition months earlier, but they do not answer what happened to Panettiere.

Until investigators and the coroner complete their work, any connection between the clips, the Narcan and Panettiere’s death would remain speculation.

Dolly Parton Opens Up About Health Issues

Dolly Parton at the 58th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards

The past year has brought several challenges for Dolly Parton. Along with facing health concerns, the country music legend has mourned the deaths of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, and her brother, Coy Parton. The singer has also canceled some performances and appearances, leaving fans worried. Amid the growing concerns, she is now offering an update on her well-being.

Dolly Parton has ccanceledor missed some high-profile events and awards ceremonies in the past several months, causing worry among her avid fans. The singer ultimately canceled her Las Vegas residency to focus on her healing, and she also missed the grand opening of the newest roller coaster at Dollywood, the theme park that she co-owns.

Parton is now sharing an update with her fans. “I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl,” Parton told PEOPLE.

Carl Thomas Dean, the singer’s husband of 58 years, passed away in March 2025 at 82 years old. While his cause of death wasn’t revealed to the public, reports note he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2019 and had been sick for a while before his death.

The Queen of Country Music said this isn’t the first time in her decades-long career that she’s dealt with health issues, pointing out that in the ’80s, she took a step back from work for several months due to “female issues.”

In the mid-’80s, Parton canceled her tour and went on a hiatus due to endometriosis, which led to a partial hysterectomy. She also battled depression and stayed away from the public eye while she recovered.

“It’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health. But I think because we live in a 24/7 world with social media, everything gets magnified in ways it wasn’t years ago,” she explained, joking that she is now the “Queen of Social Media AI.”

Despite her current health issues, Parton said she is still hard at work. “Seriously, though, even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’,” she said.

Dolly Parton Took A Break To Process Her Grief

A few months after the death of her husband, Parton said that while she had many “beautiful ideas” brewing, she wasn’t sure if she could move forward with them. “I can’t do it right now because I’ve got so many other things that I can’t afford the luxury of getting that emotional right now,” she said, as reported by The Blast.

Parton also said one of the most difficult things was adjusting to her new life after spending almost six decades with her husband. However, she finds comfort in her memories of Dean and said she feels his presence every day.

In July, the singer suffered another loss. Her older brother, Coy “Denver” Parton, died at 82 years old.

The Country Singer Made A Surprise Appearance At A Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

On June 24, fans were delighted to see Parton in person after she made an appearance at the opening of Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop in Cornersville, Tennessee. It was a welcome surprise, as the singer had just canceled her residency due to health issues.

Parton even cracked a joke, telling the crowd that she decided to open a truck stop as she “couldn’t leave it to beavers,” referring to Buc-ee’s, the popular roadside convenience store chain.

Dolly Parton Is Gearing Up For The Opening Of Her Museum

Parton is, indeed, keeping busy. The singer is getting ready to launch Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum is the largest exhibit celebrating her life anywhere in the world, spanning every dynamic decade from the top of the mountains to the top of the world,” the website reads.

“I am so proud of this. We found this location early one morning. I knew I wanted to do something special in Nashville, and until I saw this building, nothing ever hit me as the right thing to do,” Parton said.

The museum is located on the third floor of Parton’s SongTeller Hotel at 211 Commerce Street, which will welcome guests in September. The museum itself is expected to open in October.

2 Years Later, Apple TV’s Most Mind-Bending Sci-Fi Thriller Is Officially Back

Published

on

Jennifer Connelly holds a glass and smiles with people smiling at her in the background

Over the last five years, Apple TV has cemented itself as the go-to destination for long-form sci-fi storytelling. Hits such as Severance and Silo have attracted both acclaim and widespread acceptance, earning rare spots for the streamer on the Nielsen streaming charts. Apple TV’s sci-fi streak also includes major titles such as Foundation, a big-budget adaptation of Isaac Asimov‘s seminal saga, and For All Mankind, the show that got the ball rolling back in 2019. More recently, the streamer has debuted the critically acclaimed Star City, and brought back one of its most offbeat sci-fi titles, Sugar. However, there’s one series that is often left off such lists, and it’s all set to return with a second season this week.

The show in question premiered in 2024 and was created by Blake Crouch, based on his own 2016 novel. Blending elements of time travel and multiverse-hopping, the show was headlined by Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, with Alice Braga and Jimmi Simpson playing supporting characters. The series follows a physicist from Chicago who is sucked into an alternate dimension after being kidnapped by his counterpart. The show received acclaim for its narrative ambition and for the performances of its cast. The first season now holds a “Certified Fresh” 81% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

Apple TV’s Overlooked Sci-Fi Series Returns this Week

The site’s consensus notes that the show’s “intriguing ideas are spread a tad thin over its season-long runtime, but fans of foreboding sci-fi will find its residue addictively sticky.” We’re talking, of course, about Dark Matter, which is all set to return with a second season on August 28. The show’s return coincides with the theatrical release of Ridley Scott‘s first sci-fi movie in nearly a decade, The Dog Stars, making this week particularly packed for fans of the genre. Apple TV is currently airing the third season of Silo, headlined by Rebecca Ferguson, which will conclude on September 4. Silo‘s third season has certainly raised the bar for Dark Matter with its 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
