EXCLUSIVE: Brandon Camp (Benji) is set to direct Wishbone, a feature adaptation of Barbara O’Connor’s bestselling children’s novel, Wish, working from a script penned by Nicholl Fellowship recipient Joey Clarke Jr.

Wishbone tells the story of 11-year-old Charlie Reese, a rebellious girl who makes a secret wish every day — though when she’s sent to live with her aunt and uncle in the Blue Ridge Mountains, that wish feels more impossible than ever. Through an unlikely friendship with a feisty stray dog, Charlie discovers that family comes in many forms — and that sometimes, wishes do come true.

Since its publication in 2016, Wish has remained a fixture on the New York Times Bestselling Middle Grade Paperbacks list, consistently ranking in the Top 10.

Camp is also producing the film alongside Sustainable Imagination’s Jon Levin (Marshall), Mike The Pike Entertainment’s Rich Angell and Mark B. Newbauer, Riverside Entertainment’s Brian Loschiavo (Manodrome), and Scott Emmer (Mr. Mercedes).

“At its heart,” Camp told us, “Wishbone is a story about hope, faith, and unexpected connection. Charlie’s journey is one that so many—kids and adults alike—will see themselves in, and I’m thrilled to bring her world to life in a way that honors the heart of Barbara O’Connor’s beloved novel.”

Camp is a writer, director, and producer whose credits include Netflix’s international hit Love & Gelato, as well as a modern reimagining of Benji. He also wrote Love Happens, starring Jennifer Aniston, the Kevin Costner film Dragonfly, and co-created Fox’s John Doe. Most recently, he created an eight-episode series for Skydance, slated for 2025/2026. He’s repped by UTA.
