EXCLUSIVE: Buffalo 8 has acquired North American distribution rights to Alex Kugelman’s thriller-dark comedy Don’t Trip.

Matthew Sato ((Imaginary, High School Musical: The Series) stars as a struggling screenwriter who falls into a dangerous relationship with a powerful producer’s son, played by TikTok personality Will Sennett.

Further cast members include Olivia Rouyre (High School, American Horror Story), Fred Melamed, (A Serious Man, Barry), Pell James (Zodiac, Euphoria) and Chloe Cherry (Euphoria).

Kugelman, who wrote the screenplay from his own experiences in Hollywood, says Don’t Trip is close in spirit to films such as The Player and The Disaster Artistic for it exposé of the show business world.

“We could not be more excited to partner with a team as incredible as Buffalo 8,” Kugelman said, describing the film as “a darkly comedic and thrilling story that explores the underbelly of Hollywood nepo baby culture.”

The production is produced by Trevor Rothman and Lucid Rhino Productions. The acquisition was negotiated by Rothman and Nikki Stier Justice, Head of Distribution at Buffalo 8, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor.

Don’t Trip marks Kugelman’s feature directorial feature after short film The Bacheliar. He also co-produced the feature alongside Rothman.

Santa Monica-based production and distribution company Buffalo 8 will unveil details on the film’s release in the near future.
