Although the cast and creator have consistently shot down a reboot, Busy Philipps is giving fans hope for a Dawson’s Creek reunion.

The actress recently revealed that, along with Katie Holmes and Michelle Williams, she’s in the process of putting together a reunion in support of their co-star James Van Der Beek after he announced his colorectal cancer diagnosis in November.

“We’re really trying to figure something out, but there are a couple of people who have some work things that cannot be moved,” she told Us Weekly. “It’s like playing chess, trying to get everybody’s schedules to align. I’m very hopeful that at some point we will.”

Philipps, who played Audrey Liddell during the final two seasons, added: “Everybody is, and I’m so glad to see and hear from James — and I know he posted on Instagram that he’s feeling well — and we just have all been really sending him every ounce of good wishes and prayers and hoping for the best.”

Van Der Beek revealed his diagnosis to People in November, noting that he’s “feeling good” after getting treatment privately, with support from his family.

“I have colorectal cancer,” he said. “I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family. There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”

While a Dawson’s Creek reunion in any form would be a treat for fans of the WB teen soap, they shouldn’t hold their breath for a full reboot after creator Kevin Williamson previously shot down the idea in 2019.

“We keep talking about it, but … as of now it’s not even in the pipeline,” he said. “We talked about it but didn’t really find a reason to do it. We [came] up with, ideas and we’ve thought about it, but no.”
