Ed Sheeran’s Private $2M Move Emerges Amid Tour Fallout

The fiercest debate surrounding Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour has centered on who was removed, who left, and who said what. 

However, according to a new revelation from Robert Kraft, a significant part of the story had been unfolding behind closed doors long before the controversy hit the public eye. 

As Macklemore’s challenge dominated headlines and social media feeds, Kraft disclosed that Sheeran had already been working on a multimillion-dollar humanitarian initiative.

As Macklemore’s challenge to Kraft spread online this week, many assumed it marked the beginning of a conversation about financial support for Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict. Kraft, however, says that discussion had started much earlier.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the Gillette Stadium owner said Ed Sheeran had privately asked him to match a $2 million donation for humanitarian relief efforts in the region. 

“I have dedicated much of my life to building bridges between all people. I believe deeply that all lives are worth protecting,” Kraft wrote. 

He then explained that Sheeran had asked him to match his contribution “to aid in the region to fight this humanitarian crisis.”

Kraft also indicated that the initiative may not stop there. “Ed now plans to reach out to other venue owners and our goal is to continue to work together to build bridges,” he added. 

The statement further noted his longstanding support for programs designed to bring Palestinians and Israelis together to “build businesses, create jobs, and forge relationships.”

Sheeran Tour Controversy Erupted After Macklemore Turned The Stage Into A Political Flashpoint

The whole controversy that would eventually engulf the Loop Tour began in a very public setting, in front of thousands of fans at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The Blast reported that during his opening set on September 4, Macklemore used the platform to voice support for Palestinians, a move that immediately generated attention far beyond the concert itself. 

According to the report, the rapper shouted “Free Palestine” from the stage and performed his protest song “Hind’s Hall,” which has become closely associated with his advocacy on the issue. 

The performance quickly triggered backlash from groups that had already criticized Macklemore for his long-running activism regarding Israel and Palestine. 

The Israeli-American Council reportedly launched efforts to have him removed from the tour, while venues, including Gillette Stadium, began expressing concerns about future appearances. 

Within days, Ed Sheeran was forced to remove Macklemore from the remaining dates of the Loop Tour.

Macklemore Speaks Out After Being Booted From Ed Sheeran’s Tour

Rather than focus on the controversy surrounding his departure, Macklemore attempted to redirect attention toward Palestinians living through the conflict.

Taking to Instagram, the 43-year-old wrote, “With everything that has happened over the last 48 hours, I want to bring the conversation back to where it belongs: to the Palestinian people who are still being killed, still living under military occupation, and still fighting for their freedom.”

Macklemore also announced that he would donate all of his net earnings from the tour to six organizations supporting Palestinians and directly appealed to Kraft.

“I invite Robert Kraft to match my donation,” he wrote, adding, “Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protecting.”

Macklemore expanded on that message in another statement, writing, “A Palestinian life is no less valuable than any other life on this earth.”

Sheeran Says Macklemore’s Removal Was ‘Not My Decision’

Amid the controversy, Ed Sheeran eventually broke his silence and attempted to explain how the situation had unfolded behind the scenes.

According to the singer, the decision to remove Macklemore did not originate with him. In a statement addressing the controversy, he wrote, “Macklemore coming off tour was the promoter’s decision, it was not mine.” He further explained: “Macklemore’s contract for the tour was with the promoter, not me.” 

Sheeran said he spent days trying to find a solution that would satisfy everyone involved. The “Shape of You” singer explained he had been attempting to mediate between venue owners, promoters, and Macklemore while keeping the tour intact. 

One major obstacle was that several stadiums reportedly said they would not host the concerts if Macklemore remained on the lineup. 

Sheeran emphasized that his focus was on preserving the tour while maintaining relationships with all parties involved. He said he spent the week “trying to build bridges” amid the growing dispute.

If Sheeran hoped his statement would calm tensions, the opposite happened. The fallout expanded beyond Macklemore’s removal and began affecting the rest of the tour lineup.

In the days that followed, The Blast reported that opening acts Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, and Irish folk group Beoga all withdrew from upcoming tour dates in solidarity with Macklemore. 

Finneas was among the first artists to address the situation publicly. In a statement shared online, the Grammy-winning musician wrote, “I have decided not to perform on the remaining dates of the Loop Tour. I stand with Macklemore and with the Palestinian people.” 

Graham followed with a statement of his own, explaining that he could not continue with the tour under the circumstances. The Danish singer expressed support for Palestinians and indicated that remaining on the lineup no longer aligned with his personal position on the issue.

Rowe also announced his departure, while Beoga confirmed they would no longer participate in the upcoming shows.
