UFC superstar Conor McGregor is revealing the next steps in his mixed martial arts career following his shocking 69-second loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329 on Saturday, July 11.

“Surgery. Prehab. Return to martial arts practice. Go again. Final fight of the contract. Please God!” McGregor, 38, shared via Instagram on Monday, July 13.

McGregor’s comeback dreams hanging on his fight against Holloway, 34, were cut short when McGregor suffered a leg injury just over a minute into the bout.

“My faith is unconditional and I am thankful I get to prove it!” McGregor wrote. “My lifestyle changes are permanent and not just until. I am thankful I get to prove it.”

Conor McGregor was a no-show at the Marquee Nightclub at The Cosmopolitan’s UFC afterparty after his shocking fight loss, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.  McGregor, 37, was scheduled to emcee the Las Vegas bash hours after his Saturday, July 11, fight against rival Max Holloway during UFC 329. McGregor ultimately lost the match just […]

He added, “I am a child of God. I am a friend of God. God makes a way for me where there seems to be no way. I am not a victim of my circumstances, I overcome them. God is at work in me to will and to work his good pleasure! My youth is being renewed like the eagles! In Jesus I am thoroughly loved, cherished, adored. I walk in divine health. I live under supernatural protection. All things work out for my good! All things are possible for me because I am a believer!”

McGregor has one fight remaining on his UFC contract, though there is no timetable for his return. Holloway has suggested he may be McGregor’s final fight opponent, which would bring an end to their trilogy. McGregor previously defeated Holloway via decision in 2013.

Hours after the loss at UFC 329, McGregor broke his silence on social media.

“I was so sharp and so ready for this fight I cannot believe what has happened,” he wrote via X. “The talk of me being off while walking in to the fight is nonsense. I was calm, ready, and confident. I am in shock what has taken place. The devil is literally staring at me right in front of my face here. I am not engaging. I will be at church tomorrow.”

UFC president Dana White expressed disappointment in the highly-anticipated fight, telling reporters, “I was expecting at least a one-round war.”

“Who knew what Conor was capable of as far as cardio, whatever else, after a five-year layoff, and there you go,” White said of McGregor, who last fought at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, when he suffered a broken leg during the first round. “We’re assuming a blown ACL. I’m no doctor, but that’s what I figured when I saw it, and doctors think the same thing too.”

McGregor did not specify the exact injury he suffered against Holloway on Saturday, but in revealing he plans on having surgery, UFC fans can rest assured it will be a long time before they see him in the octagon again.

Netflix’s Brutal 3-Season Jason Momoa Series Is Officially More Timely Than Ever

Published

on

Jason Momoa with long hair stands in the woods and holds a map, looking to the distance in Frontier.

The closure of Hudson’s Bay in Canada at the beginning of 2025 signified much more than the end of one of the country’s last major department store chains. It also meant that the retail institution had existed for 355 years and had lived through many challenging times throughout its long history. Despite the popularity of the Hudson’s Bay striped blankets and symbols, the company has become part of the past. Hudson’s Bay ceased being relevant as long ago as 2025.

Now, the story of Hudson’s Bay has become relevant again due to its representation in the Netflix series Frontier, which is more than just a story of bloodshed and wilderness. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the establishment of the Hudson’s Bay Company and the troubles it faced for a long time before the chain became popular, thus becoming the story of how one of the oldest companies in the USA started.

‘Frontier’ Reveals the Violent Origins of the Hudson’s Bay Company

Long before Canadians associated Hudson’s Bay with cosmetics counters, holiday window displays, and striped blankets, it was one of the most powerful commercial enterprises in North America. Founded in 1670, the Hudson’s Bay Company controlled enormous swaths of land and dominated the fur trade, wielding economic influence that often blurred the line between business and government.

Set during the late 18th century, the three-season series follows Declan Harp (Jason Momoa), a half-Irish, half-Cree outlaw determined to dismantle the company’s grip on the lucrative fur trade. Standing in his way is the ruthless Lord Benton, whose brutal tactics represent a corporation willing to use violence and intimidation to protect its monopoly.

Rather than treating the Hudson’s Bay Company as little more than historical background, Frontier makes it the driving force behind nearly every conflict. Alliances shift, fortunes change, and entire communities are caught between rival traders competing for control of what was once one of the world’s most valuable commodities.

Jason Momoa Anchors One of Netflix’s Most Underrated Historical Dramas

We can easily forget that Frontier was released during a period when television became fascinated with heroes who are not so virtuous – just like shows such as Game of Thrones and Vikings, which made it hard for many other good shows to succeed. Momoa portrays one of his most captivating television roles as Declan Harp – a character who seeks revenge while also wanting to be free from a society that takes advantage of others. Harp is not a conventional hero, and it is very rare for Frontier to classify its characters as good or bad. Practically every character has the same goal in life — the pursuit of power, wealth, or even survival — which complicates interpersonal relationships among the main characters.

The show also benefits from embracing perspectives often sidelined in period dramas. Indigenous characters, in addition to supporting players orbiting European conflicts, are central to the story, with Cree communities and cultures woven into the show’s broader examination of colonial expansion. Rather than reducing history to a straightforward battle between heroes and villains, Frontier presents competing interests, fractured loyalties, and the human cost of empire. Combined with sweeping Canadian landscapes, convincing production design, and plenty of brutal action, the result is a historical drama that feels more ambitious than its relatively modest reputation suggests.

Hudson’s Bay’s Collapse Gives Frontier an Entirely New Perspective

When Frontier debuted in 2016, the Hudson’s Bay Company was still a functioning retailer with hundreds of years of history behind it. Viewers could watch the series knowing the corporation eventually evolved from a fur-trading powerhouse into the department store many grew up shopping at. Today, the stores are gone. Former flagship locations are being redeveloped, shopping centers have found new tenants, and the Hudson’s Bay name exists largely as intellectual property after being acquired by Canadian Tire. The company itself no longer operates the business that defined generations of Canadians’ retail experience.

Watching Frontier now creates an unusual sense of historical symmetry. The series begins at the height of the company’s influence, when the Hudson’s Bay Company seemed untouchable and capable of shaping the future of an entire region. Modern audiences already know that even institutions with centuries of history eventually reach an endpoint.

What once played primarily as a historical adventure now doubles as the origin story of a company whose remarkable run has finally come to an end. Its battles over commerce, competition, and corporate power no longer point toward an uncertain future — they point toward a conclusion we’ve only recently witnessed. Nearly a decade after it premiered, that’s enough reason to give one of Netflix’s most overlooked historical dramas another look.

The Bachelor alum Courtney Robertson is opening up about her decision to file for divorce from estranged husband Humberto Preciado.

“I really took marriage seriously. I never stepped out on my marriage,” Robertson, 43, claimed on the Saturday, July 11, episode of her “After Reality” podcast. “That was the scary part about getting married. Like, oh my God. I’m just going to be with one guy for the rest of my life.”

In her candid podcast episode, Robertson claimed Preciado, 47, had “inappropriate talk to women.”

“This is not what I signed up for. It was always [that] I was made to be crazy,” she alleged. “I feel the shame and I feel stupid. …  I do as much as I can to show up as a wife. It’s not for a lack of trying.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Preciado for comment on Robertson’s podcast.

When first announcing her split on Friday, July 10, Robertson — who appeared on season 16 of The Bachelor with Ben Flajnik in 2012 — said she made the decision to split from her husband “after learning information that irreparably damaged the trust in our marriage.”

“This has been one of the hardest seasons of my life, and as I continue to process everything, my focus remains on my three beautiful children,” she said in a statement to People. “They are, and always will be, my highest priority.”

In her latest podcast, Robertson said the split has taken a toll on her physical health, with her hair falling out.

“I’ve lost sight of who I was and my trust has been shattered to the point where I’m in the rebuilding phase,” she claimed. “I don’t want to coexist with anybody. I want to be happy.”

Robertson and Preciado connected via social media in 2019, seven years after her reality TV debut. (Most recently, she appeared on HGTV’s Bachelor Mansion Takeover to renovate the dating series’ iconic backdrop.)

Rachael Ray Appearance Sparks Concern: ‘Didn’t Recognize Her’

Published

on

Rachael Ray has left many fans worried for her after her appearance sparked health concerns in a new cooking video posted on social media.

The celebrity chef has been through a lot over the last couple of years, including the loss of her mom, Elsa, as well as a fire incident that destroyed her home, and an alleged marital issue with her husband, John Cusimano.

Rachael Ray also had to defend herself by revealing the health issue that caused “slurred” speech, which fans bashed her for at the time.

Ray has once again found herself at the center of a social media storm after she shared a new cooking video on Instagram.

In the clip, the 57-year-old culinary star shared instructions to her followers on how to season dishes by “feel,” instead of using any measuring devices.

She encouraged followers to rather stick it out with their palm, noting that the center of the palm, when folded, is “equivalent to about a tablespoon.”

“I think it’s really uptight and stupid to use a bunch of little measuring devices unless you’re baking,” she said, going on to add that measurement-taking when baking is a very “specific art,” but when it comes to other things, the hand will do just fine.

“Your hand is the original measuring spoon,” Ray captioned the post. “When you’re seasoning as you go, don’t overthink it. A little pinch, a little palmful, a little confidence is all you need to cook by feel. Your food will thank you.”

Fans Were Left Alarmed By Her Appearance In The Video

Instead of some fans focusing on the cooking lessons, they turned their attention to Ray’s appearance, with some voicing fears about her physical well-being, while others claimed they couldn’t recognize her.

“I haven’t seen her in so long. I’m genuinely wondering… is she okay?” One user asked, while another wrote, “She is not aging well.”

A third user commented, “She got so old- heavy and weird.” Someone else added, “Wow. Didn’t recognize her. A lot of weight. Hope she gets help.”

Conversely, other fans came to Ray’s defense, urging critics to show basic empathy and decrying harsh online judgment.

“A swift Google search would let y’all know that she has been going through some very stressful events and taken a couple of serious falls. Be kind,” someone else noted.

Another person added, “People, she hasn’t had an easy time lately. Her mom passed away last year. I send her tons of hugs … Ease up on her. You’re beautiful, Rachel, & I love you!!”

This isn’t the first time Ray has been dragged into such public scrutiny over her physical state.

Back in 2024, fans raised alarms over her health after she shared a cooking clip at the time, paying tribute to the late Tony Bennett by making his favorite dish, ossobuco. Many claimed her speech sounded “slurred,” but she later clarified that it was due to a “bum wisdom tooth,” per Page Six.

She also sparked concern in July 2025 when she allegedly exhibited “bizarre behavior” at a meet-and-greet and bottle signing event for her new gin. According to the news outlet, she came 20 minutes late for that event, as a source pointed out that she “seemed off” while greeting fans.

During the summer of 2020, she lost her Lake Luzerne home to a fire, and was dealt a major blow in the closing stages of 2025 when she lost her mom, Elsa Scuderi, at the age of 92.

The “30-Minute Meals” alum has also faced allegations of a troubled marriage with her husband of 20 years, John Cusimano, as well as other business challenges.

In a conversation with AP News back in March, she addressed rumors that her marriage to Cusimano had hit the rocks.

“We’re very volatile people. We’re loud, and then we’re lovey-dovey, and I think we confuse a lot of folks because of that,” she said.

The chef continued, “I have a great marriage. My health is fine. I lift weights every morning, 4 o’clock, you know. I’m doing just fine.”

Having moved most of her life to Italy, many pointed out that Ray had “disappeared” in 2025 amid the rising concerns for her health.

However, she clapped back in a conversation with US Weekly, noting that she’s still very much active.

“I don’t know what they’re talking about,” she told the news outlet during the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival’s Burger Bash in New York City that year.

In another chat with the news outlet, Ray shared why she prefers Italy to NYC, saying, “It’s quiet. The dog is much happier. She hates New York City. Bella is not a New Yorker at all. So, for the dog’s sake, I spend as much time [in Italy] as I can.”

Ray added, “She has a swimming pool and 66 hectares to run around on, and everything is very quiet, and the air is very fresh, and we have huge gardens and a vineyard and olive trees, and I just prefer that life.”

‘House of the Dragon’s James Norton Confirms What Makes Ormund Hightower Such a Dangerous Villain

Published

on

James Norton in House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 4

Editor’s note: The below interview contains spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 4.

We’re at the halfway point of House of the Dragon Season 3, and already the HBO fantasy spin-off has made some decisive moves with its characters on the overall chessboard that is Westeros. Although Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) has definitively claimed the Iron Throne, the strife she’s inherited in King’s Landing is only the half of it. With the knowledge that Ormund Hightower (James Norton) has deceived her — not only by sending her a fake Daeryon Targaryen but also by seizing the adjacent town of Tumbleton instead of retreating — it’s clear that Season 3 is setting up an inevitable clash between these armies, one that could have devastating consequences for the smallfolk caught in the middle.

Ahead of the premiere of Episode 4, “Tumbleton,” Collider had the opportunity to speak with Norton about playing House of the Dragon‘s newest villain and why he wanted to take “big swings” with Ormund’s most pivotal scenes. Over the course of the interview, which you can read below, the actor breaks down that memorable bath moment, the intricacies of Ormund’s admittedly “toxic” relationship with Daeron (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth), what his opinion of House Targaryen and their dragons reveals about his inner nature, and more.

COLLIDER: This episode is so fabulous for your character, starting with the very memorable scene in the bath. What sort of energy did you want to bring to that scene? So often, we associate nudity with vulnerability, and here it feels like he’s using it as a form of intimidation.

JAMES NORTON: Yes, he certainly is. What was lovely about this scene was it was an opportunity to see Ormund really enjoy being Ormund. A lot of the time, we see him very stressed, particularly later on in the series. As the stakes rise, he gets more and more stressed. Obviously, this is a man who lives at a high level of stress. You get a sense that he’s hyper-aware and hypersensitive to certain smells and sounds, and he has a lot of OCD, and so it was really lovely to see him delighting in his power and his playfulness.

What was really great in the scene, for me, was that I was able to give them versions of it where I basically said to the director [Claire Kilner], “Can I go quite camp with this?” And again, testament and credit to the creators of the show, they were like, “Yeah, just go. See how far you can go, and have it still exist within the world.” Getting out of that bath, I got campier and campier until I was literally cocking my head and going, “Is she a queen, or is she a bitch with a dragon?” It felt like I was going so ludicrously big, and then they went with it! They were brave in the edit, and they were like, “Let’s make this character delicious.” And as a result, he kind of feels into all different facets of the contradictory mess that he is, and I just think, “Good for them.”

Sometimes, as an actor, if you don’t trust the creators, you don’t give them the wide parameters of performance, and on this, I gave them very wide parameters. I gave them very subtle and nuanced and very big and panto, and generally, they went with the big swings, and I think the show and the character benefit as a result.

James Norton Nearly Fainted During Ormund’s Sword-Swinging Scene

“Your body just doesn’t know where the hell it’s at…”

You brought up Ormund’s emotions, and it does call to mind the scene where he gets the raven from Harrenhal. As much as there has been this question hanging over the nature of Ormund and Daeron’s relationship, Daeron is the one who sees Ormund go still and immediately tells everybody else to get out of the line of fire. What did you want to convey not just through Ormund’s reaction, swinging a sword at that table over and over again, but also what Daeron’s response reveals about the history between these characters?

NORTON: It was actually quite a tough scene to shoot because what happens, usually, when you do those types of explosions, those types of physical moments, which are very important in the script, you usually do the scene up to the moment of explosion, and then the shot to shoot the explosion is a pick-up or a pop or a special, whatever you want to call it, so the camera’s set up in a certain way. So, after we shot the bulk of the scene, the meat of the dialogue, and they called action, I would just be smashing the table, and then I would go back to being calm, and then I would smash the table. Your body just doesn’t know where the hell it’s at because you’re going high adrenaline to nothing, to high adrenaline. By the end, I was nearly fainting. My head was spinning. I had a terrible headache. It was kind of weirdly taxing. I don’t know. I felt really drained by the end of it.

In terms of the more important part of that scene and what it tells us about those characters, it was fun for me because it allowed us to show what is below Ormund and all the control, and what happens if that control is undermined, and the danger. Up until that point, we get a sense of there being this kind of fury bubbling underneath; we don’t actually see it manifest. Then, to allow it to be manifested was really important. Also, it just contextualizes the fear and the way people respond to him, particularly Daeron.

There’s also a sinister part of it, which is: how many times has that rage been directed at Daeron? I mean, Daeron is a young boy. He’s been brought up by this man. He’s as close to a father figure as Daeron has. There is a real pain and tragedy in that moment because he’s looking at that young servant and saying, “Get out, because otherwise you’re going to get hurt.” And, implicit in that act is, “Because I’ve been hurt before, as well. So just get out.” And a real selflessness. He doesn’t leave himself. He stays, and he watches, and he observes, partly, I think, probably to protect Ormund against himself and other people. So, there’s a stoicism and a courageousness in Daeron in that moment, but also an acknowledgment that he’s had to suffer this man.

It really goes to the heart of how toxic that relationship is, because despite there being this kind of abusive element, there is love there. I think, almost, Daeron stays because it’s like he might be a menace to himself, and a bit like a parent who needs caring by their child. Daeron stays, I think, partly out of — you’d have to ask Ben [Evan Ainsworth], but I think partly out of affection and love. It’s almost like Stockholm syndrome. He’s under duress. He’s almost imprisoned by Ormund, but also sort of loves him. That, for me, was the most exciting and most interesting part of this journey, excavating that relationship, because it’s really complicated.

James Norton Reveals the Truth at the Heart of Ormund’s Hatred of Dragons

“He sees them as beasts — not just the dragons, but the dragon riders themselves.”

Ormund is among the characters on the show who have a clear distaste for dragons, and does not hesitate to make those feelings known — but when Tessarion steps to him a little bit, he physically recoils. What did you want to convey about his attitude towards dragons juxtaposed with that reaction?

NORTON: We did one version where I literally fell to the ground as I recoiled from the dragon. In Episode 3, the High Septon describes the dragons as this “impure force.” It’s when Rhaenyra’s asking to be ordained, and the response she gets is that the dragons are a sort of impurity — “They just destroy. They don’t create.” I think Ormund, for all his theatricality and the fun, playful side to him, there is this very sinister side where he’s almost fascistic in his commitment to the Hightower cause and their claim to the throne. The way he talks about Daeron and his Targaryen lineage, being like, “Your blood is tainted,” he really sees them as savages, and he thinks the world should be rid of them. It’s really dark when you go down that. Almost like ethnic cleansing, in a weird way. He’s so binary in his approach and his view of how the two families are so different, and one being superior to the other.

I guess his attitude to dragons is kind of tied up in that. He sees them as beasts — not just the dragons, but the dragon riders themselves. Savages. Beasts. They do not deserve to be on that throne. It goes to the root of him and the darker side of him. It was an opportunity for me, alongside the relationship with Daeron and that particular part of his character, to root him and anger him alongside the more playful, delicious stuff.

Templeton, obviously, is a name that book fans will immediately hear and think about what’s coming. Can you tease any big battle scenes later this season?

NORTON: We’ve obviously already experienced an incredible battle, and there has been no secret about this series being very muscular and delivering what I think fans are excited by. Now, we’re at Episode 4. Ormund is so proud and so committed to the cause. The moment when he pretends to promise fealty to Rhaenyra, when Daemon forces him to bend the knee, you kind of know that that’s all bullshit, and you know that he hasn’t been back to Oldtown.

All I’ll say is, as you know, the setup is pretty spicy. He’s using human shields intentionally. He’s using women and children to protect him and the Hightower army in Templeton. So, we are set up for something. I don’t know what. [Laughs] It’s a very exciting series, is all I can say.

“The Real Housewives of Orange County” OG Vicki Gunvalson is reminding people that she built the franchise from the ground up. In a new interview, the outspoken reality star commented on the franchise’s newest cast, “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island,” and accused them of being inauthentic and desperate for attention.

While chatting with Page Six, Gunvalson, who just returned to season 20 of “RHOC,” slammed the new cast of “RHORI” as “very aggressive.”

“I didn’t even know who they were,” she said. “I was like, ‘Hi, bye. You’re all fighting. I’m staying away from that.’”

Gunvalson recently crossed paths with the Ocean State women while filming scenes for the upcoming “Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th” special.

The cast, featuring Alicia Carmody, Rosie DiMare, Ashley Iaconetti, Liz McGraw, Rulla Nehme Pontarelli, Kelsey Swanson, and Jo-Ellen Tiberi, will appear in the finale episode, which was filmed at Dorinda Medley’s Massachusetts estate.

Vicki Gunvalson Has Choice Words For The ‘RHORI’ Cast

Based on the trailer, two of the women, Swanson and DiMare, bump heads, forcing Medley to tell them to get their acts together or be removed.

“It’s like, ‘The cameras aren’t here. What’re you guys doing? Shut up. This is my show. We are here for Season 20, ‘Ultimate Girls Trip,’” Gunvalson said. “It was just awkward.”

Gunvalson, who first appeared in season 1 of “RHOC” in 2006, finished by giving the women of “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island” a bit of advice.

“Be authentic,” she said. “Would you do this in real life? Because if you wouldn’t do it in real life, what are you doing it on camera for?”

Vicki Gunvalson Was Asked To Return To ‘RHOC’ During BravoCon 2025

Gunvalson’s return comes seven years after she departed the series in 2019. Host Andy Cohen asked her to make her comeback during BravoCon 2025, per the Daily Dish, and she gladly accepted.

While accepting the Wifetime Achievement award in 2023, Gunvalson reflected on her time on the series, thanking not only her co-stars but also the fans for their unwavering support over the years.

“None of this would be possible without all the fans who supported me and loved me through all the s—t that I had. It has not been easy,” she said.

According to a previous report from The Blast, Gunvalson said she was more than excited Cohen asked her to return because she had started to believe her time as a full-time cast member had come to an end.

“He’s sending me off into the wilderness by myself without an orange. And when he said that, I kind of lost all where I was. And he goes, ‘Please say yes.’ And I said, “I think I’m getting my orange.’ He goes, ‘We want you back full-time.’ And I just thought, ‘Thank you, Jesus.’ Because I miss filming. I missed my girls. I missed the joy of being an Orange County Housewife,” she said.

Bravo Is Celebrating 20 Years Of ‘The Real Housewives’

Another report from The Blast details the upcoming 20th-anniversary special, which will feature a group of seven All-Star housewives traveling across several states to hang out with beloved cast members from the past and present.

Throughout the upcoming batch of episodes, more than 80 “Real Housewives” alums will appear, including the iconic NeNe Leakes.

Leakes, who has been estranged from Bravo since 2022 after suing the network and Cohen, opened up about her return in an emotional video, thanking everybody who played a role in her comeback.

More On Her Mystery Man & Previous Headlines

As The Shade Room previously reported, Keke Wyatt has made headlines in recent years for her apparent romances. In June 2024, she raised eyebrows when she stepped out with a mystery man while apparently still being married to Zackariah Darring.

Later that month, Wyatt seemingly revealed that her marriage to Darring was over, per The Shade Room. Simultaneously, fans came to know her new boo to be an automotive specialist, Anthony Whitehead.

By July of that year, Wyatt confirmed her divorce, exclusively sharing that she was happy to be “free,” per The Shade Room. In February 2025, she shared a clip of Whitehead and her children. But it now appears she has moved on to someone new.

Over the weekend, she shared what appears to be an initial video with her new mystery man. The clip apparently showed them at the movies together. However, his identity remains unclear.

Chaotic 90s Revenge Comedy On Tubi Is A Bully’s Worst Nightmare

By Robert Scucci
| Updated

1991’s Killer Nerd is exactly what it sounds like. If you need me to spell it out in a little more detail, it’s about a nerd… who kills people. That’s literally the whole thing. It’s Revenge of the Nerd, singular. But what is he getting revenge for? That’s the problem with films like Killer Nerd: this guy’s life isn’t great because he goes out of his way to make it not great. And when he realizes things aren’t going well for him, he gets very angry and makes everybody else pay for it.

Sometimes you get lucky and stumble across a film that functions as a form of wish fulfillment. Revenge arcs, or stories about somebody taking matters into their own hands, are inherently satisfying because you can live vicariously through these characters. Killer Nerd is no such movie because you go into the film hating the guy, and only continue to like him less as you get to know him better.

It’s Always The Quiet Ones

Killer Nerd 1991

Killer Nerd tells the story of Harold Kunkle (Toby Radloff), a socially awkward misfit with no friends, no romantic prospects, and a domineering mother whose character archetype will be familiar to anybody who knows serial killer lore.

At work, Harold is ignored by his crush Sally (Heidi Lohr) and constantly mocked by his coworker Jeff (Richard Zaynor). On his way to and from work, he’s tormented by drug dealers TJ (Niko DePofi) and Leelee (Tony Zanoni).

One night, while moping around, Harold sees an infomercial for Slick Dicks’ School of Cool, which, for the low, low price of $79.95, promises to turn him into a babe magnet, or something to that effect. The biggest takeaway from the tapes is that Harold should get a cool (read: terrible) haircut and dress like a washed-up lounge singer.

As you’d expect, Harold’s sudden makeover, along with his attempts to be too cool for school, is not received well, which only leads to more bullying. Harold then learns that Sally and Jeff are hooking up, and even the two women he meets at a nightclub while sporting his new look, Jenny (Lori Scarlett) and Lilac (Elizabeth Quinn), are similarly repulsed by him.

Refusing to be “that guy” anymore, Harold snaps and, as the title suggests, becomes the Killer Nerd we’ve been waiting for.

That’s Really All There Is To It

If you’re looking for a slow buildup of rage that leads to its obvious and inevitable conclusion, Killer Nerd might be a satisfying watch. Personally, I could never get fully invested because there’s really nothing to latch onto. Harold starts off as a bitter, lonely man, and the movie ends with him as a bitter, lonely man who’s now also a murderer. It never quite makes it into full slasher territory, but his rampage does come with a considerable body count.

Killer Nerd 1991

Some of the kills, which look terrible thanks to the film’s $12,000 budget, are fun because Toby Radloff fully commits to the carnage. The problem is that there’s never a moment where Harold is remotely likeable. A couple of pithy one-liners could have elevated it, but what we get is a bumbling Harold who can barely hold it together.

His “makeover” reminds me of the time in South Park when Cartman tries to act nice, but instead just wears a nice sweater. When he’s called out on the fact that dressing nice and acting nice are two different things, he shrugs and admits he doesn’t know the difference. You get that same kind of clueless energy in Killer Nerd, but since Cartman is a lovable sociopath and Harold is just… Harold, the humor doesn’t land as much as I would have liked.

Killer Nerd 1991

At the end of the day, Killer Nerd is pretty terrible. When you consider its production budget and the overall chaotic energy everybody brings to the table, there’s an undeniable charm because it plays like a group of friends with no filmmaking experience trying to make a feature-length film. It reminded me of the times my friends and I would film skits just to pass the time, and that nostalgia was cool. But I’d be lying if I said the quality, and the juvenile sense of humor we celebrated, wasn’t about the same as what you see in Killer Nerd.

As of this writing, Killer Nerd is streaming free on Tubi.
