Hilary Duff’s new music is putting the spotlight on her relationship with sister Haylie Duff.

At one point in time, the family members would be spotted attending red carpet events together and celebrating motherhood milestones on social media.

In recent years, however, some fans have speculated that Haylie and Hilary may not be as close as they once were. (They were last publicly photographed together in 2019.)

When Hilary released her February 2026 album, Luck … Or Something, some music fans couldn’t help but question if “We Don’t Talk” was about Haylie. Ultimately, the former Lizzie McGuire star set the record straight in an interview with CBS News.

In her song “We Don’t Talk,” Hilary Duff sings about questioning why a friendship fell apart.

“I’m not sure when it happened / Not even sure what it was about / If I did something different,” she sings. “Would you feel something different? / Would you at least let me hear you out?”

In the pre-chorus, Hilary seemingly confirms that the song isn’t about a casual, new friend. Instead, it appears to be about a blood relative who has been part of her life for a long time.

“’Cause we come from the same home, the same blood / A different combination, but the same lock,” she sings. “People ask me how you’re doing, I wanna say amazing / But the truth is that I don’t know / What I always end up saying is / How we don’t talk, we don’t talk, talk about it.”
