2026 has been a huge year for Alan Ritchson, and he hasn’t even starred in what may be his biggest project of the year. Ritchson will reprise his role as Jack Reacher in the fourth season of the Prime Video original series, Reacher, which is based on the series of novels by Lee Child. Ritchson will also return as Jack Reacher in the first Reacher spin-off, Neagley, and he’ll return in Season 5 of the flagship show — suffice to say, Reacher isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Ritchson also starred in one of the biggest sci-fi movies of the year, War Machine, which was released straight to streaming on Netflix back in March. After passing The Gray Man (starring Ryan Gosling) and cracking the all-time Netflix top 10, the rumored War Machine sequel was officially greenlit.

Given the success of War Machine this year, most fans are expecting the sequel to be on the fast track to resuming production, and a new update about the film confirms this to be true. Returning writer/director Patrick Hughes took to his personal Instagram just yesterday to share a picture of the official script for the War Machine sequel, War Machines, which teases details about the plot despite being what seems like a small reveal on the surface while also paying a cheeky homage to James Cameron‘s Aliens. The biggest battle for Ritchson’s 81 in the first film was the giant alien war machine, and in the sequel, it’s now seemingly confirmed that he will have multiple adversaries to deal with. Further plot details and casting information about War Machines are being kept under wraps for now, but they will likely be released as the film reaches a more advanced stage of development. James Beaufort also returns as a writer on War Machines.

Alan Ritchson Has Two More Movies Coming in 2026

While the wait for War Machines might be long, Ritchson has two new movies coming out before the end of this year, including one set to hit the big screen this weekend, Motor City. Ritchson stars in the virtually silent action thriller, which relies on elements other than dialogue to tell its story, such as action and body language. On September 11, he will team up with Owen Wilson for Runner, the new action thriller distributed by Angel Studios. Fans also remain hopeful that Ritchson will return as Aimes in Fast Forever, which opens in theaters in 2028.

Right now, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is tearing through theaters like a one-man army. This film is the latest adaptation of an ancient Greek text about a soldier trying to find his way home after helping to win a costly battle. Specifically, Odysseus helped to bring the Trojan War to an end, which is ironic when you think about it. After all, the success of this fictional tale might have finally brought a real-world conflict to an end. Namely, the endless culture wars fought by the bravest keyboard warriors this side of 4chan.

For many months now, all of the usual suspects have been whinging about Nolan’s casting decisions. This included having Lupita Nyong’o play Helen of Troy and having Elliot Page play Sinon, a Greek warrior. At the prospect of (gasp!) a Black woman and a trans man playing Greek characters, haters began screeching that the film was woke garbage that would bomb at the box office. That is, of course, the conventional wisdom of the old adage: “go woke, go broke.” However, The Odyssey earned a whopping $264.1 million in its opening weekend, providing a lesson everyone should learn. The lesson? Repeat after me: the internet is not real life.

There Is No Normal

When I’m not dropping hot takes about movies and TV shows, I’m a professor at a humble state college. One of the life lessons I try to impart to all my students is that there is no normal; there is only what has been normalized around you. Are you in a room with nothing but flat-earthers? In that scenario, you’d be considered the crazy one. After a while, you might even start to believe what they are saying. This is just human nature…everyone wants to fit in rather than be an outcast. Eventually, it becomes easier to drink the Kool-Aid of wacky groupthink than to speak truth to a bunch of idiots.

What does this have to do with The Odyssey? Everything, really. Despite once clinging to the mantra “facts don’t care about your feelings,” the conservatives predicting that the movie would bomb didn’t have any real data to suggest that would happen; instead, they just had the rancid vibes of everyone in their preferred virtual spaces insisting that the film would flop. This is a practical example of the flat-earther example above. You can only hear the majority of people in your favorite online groups predict doom for so long before those predictions seem inevitable. Nobody wants to question the narrative because that’s the quickest way to get ostracized from the group.

The Internet Is Not Real Life

Now, the success of The Odyssey (it made over a quarter of a billion dollars in the first weekend!) has destroyed that narrative on its own. What has that done to the naysayers who predicted its doom? Some have retreated into conspiracy theories; millionaires must be buying out empty theaters! The movie is only successful because it pandered to woke elites! It’s only making money because of presales! The expensive IMAX tickets inflated the numbers! These are just a few conspiracies being peddled by intractable crazies who can’t comprehend The Odyssey being popular and successful. Their narrative has fallen apart, proving once and for all that the internet is not real life.

Regardless of its political leanings, every single online group you are part of has its own biases about countless topics. This includes what is or isn’t woke. But part of being a grownup is realizing that these groups’ opinions don’t reflect the wider culture anymore than your childhood friends’ opinions reflect the opinions of everyone in your hometown. If you and your buddies hate a new bar but it gets more crowded by the month, then most people clearly like it. And if the movie all of your online buddies have called woke garbage earns hundreds of millions in the first weekend, then it’s clearly both popular and successful.

The Culture War Is Over

Everyone votes with their dollars. If having a Black woman or a trans man portray a Greek character was a huge dealbreaker, mainstream audiences would have boycotted The Odyssey. If the average moviegoer actually cared about tweaking the lore of a 3,000-year-old poem, they’d have avoided the film. The fact that the movie is doing gangbusters at the box office is proof that most going to see it aren’t fretting over politics or culture war narratives. They just wanted to see a giant blockbuster filled with great actors; Christopher Nolan, whose every film has been successful, gave those audiences exactly what they wanted, and he’s being rewarded for it.

That’s how you can tell (and you may want to sit down for this) that the whole idea of a culture war is fake. Under capitalism, the predominant culture and cultural preferences are represented by what people pay for. The Mandalorian and Grogu didn’t fail because it was woke; it failed because it was another low-effort film from a fading franchise. Obsession didn’t succeed because it was anti-woke; it succeeded because it had fresh ideas, killer performances, and a visionary director. In short, audiences just want a good film, and a movie’s box office is the most reliable barometer of mainstream audiences’ opinion on a major blockbuster film.

Freaks And Greeks

Given its own massive box office, The Odyssey is clearly a movie that appeals to mass audiences. Now, that doesn’t mean you have to like it or that it is necessarily a great film; after all, plenty of terrible movies are still insanely profitable. And you don’t have to approve of the casting, either; if boycotting this movie because of those two actors is that important to you, nobody’s going to drag you to go see it. But if you’re still hating and claiming this movie will bomb, you are officially the minority opinion on Christoper Nolan’s latest film, one that could easily earn over a billion dollars when all is said and done. 

Again, the takeaway here is that the internet isn’t real life. Did everyone in your scoldmaxxing online circles predict The Odyssey would fail? Now you know how much those predictions are worth. Were you utterly convinced that Elliot Page’s brief appearance in this film would destroy Nolan’s chances of success? Now you know how little the average person actually cares about these things. Fortunately, you can avoid these problems by putting the phone down, walking away from the computer, and going outside at least once a day. When you start talking to real people and not digital avatars, you might start caring less about what the internet has to say.

Regularly going outside is the best thing for anyone who has spent months liking countless posts about how The Odyssey would fail. If that’s you, then do us all a favor and touch some grass while you’re out there!

It has been a celebratory week for Final Fantasy fans as the beloved RPG’s tenth installment marks the 25th anniversary of its original Japanese release. Developed by Square (then known internationally as SquareSoft), the 10th main entry in the Final Fantasy series launched for PlayStation 2 in Japan on July 19, 2001, before arriving in North America on December 18 of the same year. Entering development in 1999, this particular Final Fantasy game was a landmark release for the franchise, introducing full voice acting, dynamic facial animations, and fully realized 3D character and environment rendering.

Set in the fictional world of Spira, Final Fantasy X follows Tidus, a star blitzball player mysteriously transported to a world plagued by a colossal creature known as Sin. There, he joins the summoner Yuna on her sacred pilgrimage to defeat the monster, only for the pair and their companions to uncover the devastating truth behind Sin and Spira’s religious order. The game was both a critical and commercial success, selling more than 8.5 million copies worldwide on PlayStation 2 while earning a 92 out of 100 on Metacritic. More than two decades later, it continues to be widely regarded as one of the greatest RPGs ever made.

To commemorate the anniversary, Square Enix released a special celebratory video on its official YouTube channel (which you can watch via the player below), showcasing memorable scenes from the original Japanese release. While the video doesn’t include footage from Final Fantasy X-2, which launched in Japan in 2003 and became the franchise’s first direct video game sequel, it does confirm another reason for fans to celebrate. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, the 2013 collection featuring enhanced versions of both games, will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on July 23.

‘Final Fantasy X’ Changed the Series Forever

Like previous Final Fantasy entries, Final Fantasy X includes a variety of optional minigames, most notably the fictional underwater sport blitzball. However, it also marked a major departure from the series’ traditional design. Instead of using an explorable overworld map, the game features a largely linear journey through interconnected locations across Spira. Although players eventually gain access to an airship that allows fast travel between destinations, the conventional world map seen in earlier installments was replaced with a more streamlined progression, helping distinguish Final Fantasy X from its predecessors.

Mick Jagger proved he’s still very much the lover boy as he made a surprise appearance in Napa Valley to support his fiancée, Melanie Hamrick, at the county’s festival celebration over the weekend.

The Rolling Stones frontman has been with Hamrick for more than 12 years following a notorious love life that allegedly saw him sleep with more than 4,000 women.

Despite his success with the ladies, Jagger recently implied he has also been turned down and ghosted, revealing the experience inspired the song “Back in Your Life.”

Mick Jagger made a surprise appearance at Festival Napa Valley on Friday to support his longtime girlfriend and fiancée, Melanie Hamrick, who played a key role in producing the event’s dance gala, which paired classical ballet with music from the Rolling Stones.

For the occasion, the 82-year-old rock legend wore a light green blazer over a patterned dress shirt, while the former American Ballet Theatre dancer opted for an all-black dress with red slip-ons, according to the New York Post. Photos showed the couple posing hand-in-hand against a floral backdrop as Jagger burst into laughter.

Hamrick has frequently drawn inspiration from her partner’s decades-long music catalog, including her 2019 ballet Porte Rouge.

The couple have been together since 2014 and share a 9-year-old son, Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger. They reportedly met in Tokyo while the Rolling Stones were on tour and became engaged in 2023 after Hamrick was spotted wearing a large diamond ring.

Although Jagger appears to have settled down with Hamrick, he has made headlines over the years for his turbulent love life, including alleged affairs that reportedly damaged previous relationships.

Author Bob Spitz claimed in his recently released book, The Rolling Stones: The Biography, that Jagger had sex with bandmate Keith Richards’ girlfriend, Anita Pallenberg, while filming the 1970 movie Performance, in which they portrayed a couple.

“There was a lot of very explicit footage, taken by Anita on her handheld movie camera of Mick and Anita really screwing — steamy, lusty stuff that was edited into a separate X-rated short feature,” Spitz writes, quoting a Rolling Stones employee.

Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the rock icon explained that the experience inspired the Rolling Stones song “Back in Your Life,” which he wrote with Keith Richards and Andrew Watt.

“I just came up with these lyrics really quickly,” Jagger said.

When Lowe asked whether the lyrics were drawn from personal experience, Jagger laughed and replied, “Well obviously!”

As the enormous UFOs position themselves over large cities and start to destroy them, the film follows scientist David Levinson (Josh Goldblum), who discovered the alien signal, ace Marine pilot Steven Hiller (Will Smith), and US President Whitmore (Bill Pullman), as they try to launch a response and organize a counterattack.

With the backdrop of American Independence Day, it is only apt that this Roland Emmerich blockbuster features one of the best military warfare scenes in a sci-fi film. The film is famous for its colossal destruction sequences, iconic quotes, and thrilling battles, but it also balances them with genuine emotional stakes. The thrilling aerial dogfights, especially when Hiller goes one-on-one with the alien spaceship, are immersive and rousing. It is no wonder that Independence Day is one of the defining blockbusters of the 1990s that still resonates today.

‘Pacific Rim’ (2013)

When Kaiju monsters begin emerging from a portal beneath the Pacific Ocean, humanity responds by constructing gigantic robotic weapons called Jaegers in Pacific Rim. The film follows ex-Jaeger pilot Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam), who’s called back into duty after the Jaeger program fell. He’s paired with the rookie Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) to battle increasingly dangerous Kaiju that attack major cities.

Pacific Rim stands out because it reimagines what the military would look like in the face of otherworldly threats like Kaiju. Guillermo del Toro draws inspiration from Japanese manga and anime, namely Gundam and Evangelion, creating a unique universe that’s both thrilling and creative. The Jaegers themselves feel like genuine military hardware by showing what it takes to pilot them and the robots’ capabilities. Pacific Rim boasts spectacular visual design and jaw-dropping action sequences, and it’s still unmatched by other monster movies. It may have enjoyed only modest box-office success, but it has since become a modern cult classic.

‘Transformers’ (2007)

Michael Bay‘s Transformers follows Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), who unexpectedly gets caught in the middle of a robotic war between the Autobots and the Decepticons after his first car turns out to be a Transformer. The military, namely the Special Ops team led by Captain Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and Sergeant Epps (Tyrese Gibson), also gets involved as the Decepticons are after state secrets to revive their leader, Megatron, and obtain the powerful All Spark.

Transformers may be remembered for its explosive spectacle, but the film distinguishes itself by effectively integrating modern military operations into its story. In doing so, it grounds itself as much as it can, making the plot more exciting than just a robot vs robot film. It treats the Decepticons as real threats, and the military portrayed in the film responds fearlessly. The action sequence where the soldiers battle Scorponok is blockbuster filmmaking at its best. On top of that, Bay’s large-scale action sequences remain visually impressive thanks to groundbreaking visual effects that still look gorgeous today. The subsequent sequels still incorporate the military, but this first film is the gold standard.

‘Avatar’ (2009)

Avatar follows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), who is recruited to participate in the Avatar Program on the alien moon of Pandora. With his Marine background, he is recruited by Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) to gather information about the land’s valuable resources. As Jake learns the Na’vi culture and becomes close with Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), he begins questioning the operation he was sent to support.

While Avatar is celebrated for revolutionizing visual effects, also close to its DNA are the war sequences that appear in all three movies so far. In this aspect, the military science fiction elements are compelling. James Cameron presents a technologically advanced military that contrasts with the Na’vi’s more traditional way. As Jake assimilates to the Na’vi, there are fun sequences where the Na’vi wield firepower and follow Jake’s Marine training. Every battle feels meticulously choreographed, with believable tactics and cutting-edge equipment that make the conflict feel grounded despite its fantastical setting. It’s one of the many reasons that Avatar is thoroughly entertaining to the tune of over $2 billion worldwide.

‘Edge of Tomorrow’ (2014)

Edge of Tomorrow follows PR officer William Cage (Tom Cruise), who’s shoved into the frontline of combat against an unstoppable alien species named the Mimics. Without proper training, Cage is killed within minutes, but he finds himself trapped in a time loop that makes him relive the same day. He teams up with the legendary Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) and uses his ability to improve and find the aliens’ weakness.

Based on a manga, Edge of Tomorrow puts a new spin on the Groundhog Day time-loop formula. It combines the sci-fi premise with the structure of a military campaign, smartly focusing on Cage, who is not hero material at first, but then we see him develop and win after countless failures. The large-scale invasion and combat are among the most fascinating sequences in the movie. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt have a great dynamic, and their presence is a large reason why the film became so beloved. Edge of Tomorrow has emerged as a favorite after it was released in theaters, and there have been talks of a sequel brewing.

‘Starship Troopers’ (1997)

Starship Troopers follows Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien), a high school graduate who enlists in the Mobile Infantry after his friends join the military. As humanity, now ruled by the United Citizen Federation, launches a campaign against the alien Arachnids following a devastating attack on Earth, Rico rises through the ranks while experiencing the brutal realities of war.

Initially dismissed for promoting fascism, Starship Troopers has been reappraised as a deceptively masterful satire. Its only fault is that it was released at a time when everything was more optimistic. Paul Verhoeven deliberately presents a world where militarism, propaganda, and nationalism are glorified to uncomfortable extremes. The film works equally well as an adrenaline-fueled war movie and as a critique of authoritarian societies. Its practical creature effects and large-scale battles have only become more appreciated with time. With its social commentary, Starship Troopers has now become a quintessential military sci-fi film.

‘Aliens’ (1986)

Aliens follows Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) as she reluctantly accompanies a squad of Colonial Marines to investigate a human colony that has mysteriously gone silent on LV-426, the moon where she initially encountered the Xenomorph. Logically, the suspicion is that the hyper-violent alien is behind the event. When they find themselves there, they discover they’ve walked directly into a Xenomorph hive.

James Cameron took Ridley Scott‘s claustrophobic horror masterpiece and transformed it into one of cinema’s greatest military action films. Aliens remains the benchmark for military sci-fi because it perfectly blends horror and action. Cameron gives every member of the Colonial Marines a distinct personality, making their inevitable losses genuinely impactful. The Xenomorphs remain terrifying despite the characters being armed, unlike in the first film, allowing Ripley to turn into one of cinema’s greatest action heroes. The film’s relentless pacing, groundbreaking visual effects, and unforgettable final boss showdown have influenced nearly other blockbusters that followed.

Former NFL player and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast member Marcellus Wiley is denying allegations of rape in new court filings.

Marcellus has been a topic of conversation since the beginning of July 2026 when his wife, Annemarie Wiley, accused him of physically and sexually assaulting her. He was arrested during the Fourth of July weekend and booked into a Florida jail.

Since then, Marcellus Wiley has been fighting to clear his name, and during his latest court appearance, he said that Annemarie’s claims of r-pe were actually moments of “marital intimacy.”

In new court documents, Marcellus, who played a majority of his career with the Buffalo Bills, fired back at the claims his wife, Annemarie, made about him earlier this month.

“We did not have a perfect marriage. We experienced disagreements, frustrations and periods of marital strain,” he wrote in court documents obtained by Us Weekly. “However, I have never physically abused, sexually assaulted or intentionally harmed my wife at any point during our relationship, either before we were married or during the more than 12 years that we have been husband and wife.”

Annemarie Wiley Claimed Marcellus R-ped Her More Than Once

According to a previous report from The Blast, Annemarie alleged that Marcellus had abused her in more ways than one after his Fourth of July arrest. She said at the time that she had been a victim of Marcellus’ “continuing and escalating pattern of physical violence, sexual abuse, verbal and emotional abuse, financial control and intimidation.”

Responding directly to the claims, Marcellus denied his estranged wife’s allegations and instead categorized them as moments of “marital intimacy.”

“That allegation is completely false. I have never forced, coerced or sexually assaulted my wife,” he said. “Those allegations are profoundly painful to read because they bear no resemblance to the relationship I believed we shared. Until these proceedings were filed, Annemarie and I remained husband and wife living together in the same home with our three children. We had not separated.”

Following his arrest, Annemarie requested that Marcellus have no visitation with their children for the time being. He was ordered to stay 500 feet away from his estranged wife and was barred from using their children to relay messages.

In court, Marcellus said that the loss of contact with his children has been one of the most challenging parts of his and his wife’s ongoing legal woes.

“My children know me as the father who wakes them up for school, prepares them for the day, drives them to school, picks them up each afternoon, coaches their teams, attends their practices and games, helps with homework and spends virtually every afternoon and evening with them,” he said. “That has been their daily routine for years.”

Marcellus Arrested After Allegedly Poking His Wife In The Face

Marcellus was arrested by Florida police officers earlier this month after Annemarie told them that he allegedly poked her in the cheek during an argument.

She also claimed that the former ESPN employee threatened to k-ll her.

Annemarie told police during the time of Marcellus’ arrest that she planned on divorcing him due to his alleged “unreported history of violence” towards her in the past.

Marcellus was booked into a Florida jail and charged with alleged domestic battery, per The Blast.

Marcellus denied the allegations in a YouTube video, claiming the women were out to ruin his reputation and secure a massive paycheck.

“As they say, assassination by accusation. That’s their goal. They’re trying by lying. They don’t want justice. They want just ice. Money, bling, things,” he said. “For every one of them, I either saw, communicated through email, text, phone, was invited by these individuals after these dates to engage, to be intimate or all the above, after the dates that are in question.”

Brad Pitt is facing another painful development in his fractured family life after his youngest daughter, Vivienne, moved to legally remove his surname.

Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt has filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court asking to become Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail.

The filing lists her reason for seeking the change as “personal,” without offering any further explanation.

A hearing has been scheduled for November 2, when the court is expected to consider the request.

Vivienne, who turned 18 this year, is the youngest of Pitt and Jolie’s six children and was born in 2008 alongside her twin brother, Knox.

The second read, “Petitioner Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt filed a petition with this court for a decree changing names as follows: Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.”

Their hearings are scheduled separately, with Maddox due in court on September 14 and Zahara on September 28.

Zahara had already introduced herself publicly as Zahara Marley Jolie during a 2023 sorority ceremony at Spelman College. Maddox, meanwhile, reportedly filed his petition in late May.

Their legal notices confirm that both are now seeking court approval rather than simply using different names socially.

The court hearings for Maddox, Zahara, and Vivienne will therefore determine whether their requested names become official on government records.
