Kim Kardashian Honors ‘Forever Twin’ and Grandmother Mary Jo ‘MJ’ Shannon After Her Death

Kim Kardashian is clearing up the confusion around her latest vacation post on social media after some fans questioned the timing.

The Skims founder, 45, posted a carousel of family happy snaps via her Instagram on Thursday, July 16, which showed her and her loved ones enjoying a fun getaway. “Lake life,” she captioned the image.

The post went live around the same time that Kris Jenner announced the death of her mother, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, at 91.

The timing left fans scratching their heads, with some accusing Kardashian of being insensitive.

Others threw their support behind Kardashian however, with one person commenting, “Do you guys really think she would post this intentionally at the same time as the news of her grandma passing? It’s clearly a scheduled post. Get a grip.”

In response to the confusion, Kardashian took to the comments section to clarify what had occurred, confirming it was in fact a scheduled post.

“This post was scheduled a few days ago before we lost MJ, so its timing came right alongside her passing,” she explained. “I’ve been by my mom and grandma’s side this past week, and my heart is completely with my family right now. We love and miss her so deeply, and in the days ahead, we’ll be focusing on celebrating her beautiful life 🕊️🤍.”

Sunny Hostin’s Plea Backfires During Son’s Police Encounter

Published

on

Sunny Hostin’s attempt to keep her son from receiving a trespassing citation is now playing out publicly, with newly released bodycam footage showing “The View” co-host repeatedly highlighting her television career, legal background, and her son’s Harvard education while speaking with police.

Despite Hostin’s efforts, officers moved forward with citing 24-year-old Gabriel Hostin after he was allegedly found on active Metro-North Railroad property in Westchester County, New York. Police explained that the alleged offense could have resulted in an arrest but said they reduced it to a trespassing violation because Gabriel cooperated and was not standing directly between the rails.

The June 16 encounter began after officers reportedly spotted Gabriel on the railroad right-of-way near New Rochelle.

Bodycam footage released by the MTA Police Department and obtained by TMZ shows officers approaching Gabriel on the tracks and temporarily placing him in handcuffs while he spoke with his mother over the phone.

After officers moved to a nearby street, Sunny arrived and immediately explained who she was. “My name is Sunny Hostin and I’m one of the co-hosts of ‘The View’ and I’m a former federal prosecutor,” she told police.

The 57-year-old television personality then emphasized her son’s background while arguing that he had made an innocent mistake. “That’s my son. He’s a Harvard graduate, he doesn’t have a criminal record,” Hostin said. “He knows. He’s a Harvard grad who teaches 4th grade geometry to South Bronx kids.”

Hostin also described Gabriel as “not a kid who’s ever in trouble” as she asked officers not to issue the citation.

Officers Said The Alleged Offense Could Have Led To An Arrest

Gabriel reportedly told officers that he had been running when he noticed a gravel incline that appeared suitable for hill training. He claimed he entered through an open gate and did not realize he had crossed onto restricted railroad property.

Police, however, said Gabriel had been found on the right-of-way of active tracks in an area with posted “No Trespassing” warnings. When an officer informed him that he would receive a trespassing citation, Gabriel asked, “Is this necessary?” The officer responded, “Yes.”

Gabriel then questioned what would happen if an officer chose not to issue the ticket. Police said their “hands were tied” and stressed that the situation could have ended more seriously. “Because it is an arrestable offense. I want to make that clear, okay?” one officer explained.

The officer said police were “dimming it down to a trespass violation” because Gabriel had not been standing in the gauge, the area between the rails, and had remained cooperative. “We know you’re not a criminal or anything like that, but our hands are tied with cameras everywhere,” the officer added.

While reports have described the incident as an arrest, TMZ previously reported that court records characterized it as a citation that did not involve an arrest. The newly released footage does show Gabriel being briefly handcuffed during the initial encounter.

Hostin Claims An Open Gate Caused The Confusion

The bodycam footage gives additional context to the argument Hostin later presented to prosecutors: that her son entered through an open gate and did not knowingly disregard a visible warning.

MTA Police also released an image of the gate and the “No Trespassing” sign Gabriel said he did not notice. Hostin has argued that because the gate was standing open, the sign attached to it was not readily visible as he entered the area.

The family also reportedly told officers that they had moved to the area within the past year, suggesting Gabriel was still unfamiliar with his surroundings. That explanation now sits at the center of Hostin’s request for the case to be dismissed. Rather than disputing that Gabriel entered railroad property, she is arguing that he lacked the intent to trespass and reasonably believed the incline was accessible.

Hostin, who previously worked as a federal prosecutor before becoming a legal analyst and joining “The View,” is listed as her son’s attorney in the case.

In a letter sent to Westchester Assistant District Attorney Amanda Greene, Hostin asked prosecutors to dismiss the citation before Gabriel’s scheduled July 31 court appearance. “My client is a 2025 Harvard University graduate with no criminal history or prior contact with the criminal justice system,” she wrote. “He is an avid runner and former Junior Olympian track athlete who was in the area training.”

Hostin said her son saw what appeared to be a gravel hill that he could use during his workout. “Although there was a gate at the entrance of the gravel incline, the gates were standing open,” she wrote. “The only ‘No Trespassing’ sign was affixed to the left gate and, because the gates were open, it was not visible to my client as he entered the property.”

“He reasonably believed the area was accessible and had no intention of entering private property unlawfully,” she added.

Hostin Argues The Citation Creates ‘Unnecessary Consequences’

Hostin concluded her letter by arguing that continuing the case would serve little public interest, particularly given her son’s clean record and cooperation with police. “Dismissal would avoid imposing unnecessary consequences on a young man who has demonstrated exceptional character and achievement and who poses no risk to the community,” she wrote.

The footage nevertheless shows that the same accomplishments Hostin cited in her legal request, including her son’s Harvard degree, community work, and lack of a criminal record, did not persuade officers to abandon the citation at the scene.

Gabriel is currently expected to appear in New Rochelle City Court on July 31.

New Snap Of Taylor Swift’s Massive Wedding Ring Surfaces

Published

on

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are continuing to enjoy married life while balancing their busy careers.

The couple recently attended the wedding of former NFL player JuJu Smith-Schuster and Laura Kruk, where fans caught a glimpse of Swift’s wedding band as she mingled with other WAGS in newly released photos.

As attention remains fixed on their relationship, Travis Kelce has already returned to offseason training ahead of his 14th NFL season.

Swift and Kelce recently stepped out to celebrate another couple’s big day, making one of their first public appearances since reportedly marrying earlier this month.

The newlyweds attended the wedding of former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and Laura Kruk at the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel, California.

Photos shared by fellow guest Jayda Kamryn Hawkins, the wife of NFL player Jaylinn Hawkins, offered fans a glimpse into the festivities.

In one candid snapshot on Instagram, Swift appeared relaxed and cheerful as she posed for a selfie late in the evening, seemingly wearing an oversized blazer believed to belong to Kelce. Another group mirror photo showed the singer standing off to the side rather than drawing attention to herself.

The outing also drew attention because it provided one of the clearest looks yet at Swift’s wedding band. She paired the ring with a strapless pink Markarian gown, while Kelce opted for a tailored gray suit as the pair appeared to be enjoying their first weeks as husband and wife.

In a photo shared by Vogue Magazine, the couple could be seen posing next to the bride and groom and other guests, with Swift’s massive ring in full view.

Swift’s wedding band joins the engagement ring Kelce used to propose, a striking old mine brilliant-cut diamond that has been estimated to be worth between $550,000 and $1 million.

Their own wedding came after months of speculation about their future together and reportedly brought together around 1,000 guests from across the worlds of sports, music, and entertainment.

Some of the biggest names at the nuptials, which were held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, included Paul McCartney, Tom Brady, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba, Stevie Knicks, and Swift’s close pal, Selena Gomez.

However, rather than traditional bridal party roles, Swift’s brother Austin served as her man of honor, while Kelce’s brother Jason was best man.

The duo had a very emotional moment during their wedding when they read their vows to each other from little golden books, with guests claiming that Kelce was far more tearful than his bride.

The couple’s relationship traces back to July 2023, when Kelce attended Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Kansas City.

The NFL star revealed that he had hoped to meet the singer after the show and even brought along a friendship bracelet featuring his phone number, though he never managed to hand it to her.

Over the years, the pair have balanced demanding careers while supporting one another at concerts, sporting events, and public appearances. Despite the constant attention surrounding their relationship, Kelce has insisted their life together feels remarkably normal.

“Whenever I’m with her, it feels like we’re just regular people,” he previously told GQ. “When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love.”

Fresh Off Wedding Bliss, Travis Kelce Focuses On Another Chiefs Run

While wedding celebrations continue to generate headlines, Kelce has already shifted his focus back to football. Less than two weeks after the ceremony, he was photographed dressed in a black T-shirt and gray workout shorts in Florida, signaling the start of preparations for another NFL season.

His return follows a March announcement that he would continue his playing career rather than retire.

Appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Kelce confirmed he would return for a 14th season with the Kansas City Chiefs. “Let’s go! Making another run at it, baby, and the Chiefs are making moves, Pat,” he said at the time.

Kelce also credited his relationship with Swift as part of the motivation behind his decision, explaining that they share the same passion for their respective careers and a desire to keep pursuing what they love.

“We share the same love for what we do,” he said, per People Magazine, adding, “I’m still in love with this game.”

Pat McAfee Raves About Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce’s ‘Spectacular’ Wedding Celebration

Kelce’s most recent game came in December 2025, when the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a playoff defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers, marking the franchise’s earliest postseason exit in nearly a decade.

Before announcing his decision to continue playing, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Kelce’s contract was valued at a minimum of $12 million and could reach as much as $15 million through incentives.

According to ESPN, the veteran tight end informed the Chiefs of his plans to return before the start of free agency, ending months of speculation about a possible retirement.

Since then, attention has shifted from Kelce’s football future to his personal life, particularly his wedding to Taylor Swift.

Among those in attendance was ESPN personality Pat McAfee, who later described the celebration as one of the most “spectacular evenings” he has ever experienced. “The football world coming together with Hollywood and Nashville,” McAfee said. “It was the greatest night of all time.”

Lindsie Chrisley’s Surprising Comment After DUI Arrest

Published

on

Chrisley Knows Best star Todd Chrisley gets a parking ticket in LA

“Chrisley Knows Best” star Lindsie Chrisley has broken her silence on her May 2026 DUI arrest on a new episode of her “Coffee Convos” podcast.

The reality star, 36, made headlines earlier this year after she was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, attempting to evade police, reckless driving, and a slew of other charges while driving her car in Georgia.

According to Lindsie Chrisley, she’s dealt with mental health struggles over the last year, adding that it’s caused many problems in her personal life.

Speaking with MTV veteran Kailyn Lowry on their shared podcast, Lindsie said she takes her ongoing legal woes very seriously. She said that she hasn’t been able to comment publicly because she’s stayed off social media and deleted all the apps from her phone. “If people are sending me messages, I’m not getting them,” she said.

According to TMZ, Lindsie was arrested and booked in jail in Georgia in May 2026 before bonding out the next day. She told the publication that she was pulled over for speeding past a car on a two-lane road after trying to avoid being hit by another car that swerved to avoid an animal.

Lindsie Chrisley Has Struggled With Her Mental Health Over The Last Year

During the podcast episode, Lindsie admitted that she’s struggled with her mental health over the last year. She mentioned her life as a public figure, adding that while she enjoys what she does, it can cause issues for her and those around her.

“When you share so openly things about your personal life in your job, it can cause a lot of problems. I do think the emotional state that I’ve been in over the last year, some of that has been from investing in what listeners are saying or investing in what the Reddit folks are saying online and the conspiracy theories and all the things,” she said.

Lindsie further opened up about the situation on an episode of her “Southern Tea” podcast and asked the audience for “grace” as she navigates her ongoing legal troubles. While she couldn’t say much, Lindsie assured her listeners that she was taking her situation “very seriously.” As she prepares to deal with the matter head-on, Lindsie explained that her focus is on moving forward, growing, and “respecting” the legal process.

She also said that her arrest and subsequent legal problems have forced her to settle down and reflect on where she’s at in her life. “I do think that this was, kind of, a hard-stop moment for me to be like, ‘OK, everything needs to get in line and sh-t needs to be gotten in order because you cannot continue going down the path of operating off of heartbreak and betrayal and lack of confidence,’” she said.

“Like, you cannot continue carrying that every single day because I’m just going to sit in it.’ I think I’ve sat in it long enough. Not to make light of anything, but it was a great time-out for me,” she added.

Lindsie’s Ex-Boyfriend Was Arrested And Took A Bloody Mugshot

In addition to the DUI drama, Lindsie made headlines in April 2026 when her ex-boyfriend went viral due to his bloody mugshot. According to The Blast, Lindsie and her boyfriend allegedly got into a heated altercation that resulted in the man going “berserk” after Lindsie tried to leave.

A source said that her ex-boyfriend was the one who called local authorities, but due to the visible injuries on Lindsie’s body, he was the one arrested and booked on a count of aggravated assault. His mugshot made its rounds primarily because he looked disheveled and had a bloody streak running down the side of his face.

It was a surprising turn of events, given that, before that, the man had asked Lindsie’s father, Todd Chrisley, for her hand in marriage in a heartfelt Instagram post in July 2025.

And speaking of Todd, the reality star turned convicted felon previously said that he’s done with his eldest daughter, claiming that she’s hurt him and his family in immeasurable ways.

“I don’t know many ways you can spin this sh-t. I’m over it. I’m not talking about this stuff anymore,” Todd said on “Chrisley Confessions,” per The Blast. “It’s unfortunate that we have to get up to this again, and we have to start addressing the same sh-t that we’ve addressed for six years or longer.”

4 Best New TV Shows to Watch This Weekend (July 18-19)

Published

on

Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham in Ride or Die

This week’s new shows have a whole lot of action – both on and off the sports field.

At the top of Watch With Us’ binge list is Prime Video’s Ride or Die, which asks the question, “What would happen if Thelma & Louise were ass-kicking action heroes?”

Apple TV continues its hot streak with Lucky, a crime thriller starring one of Hollywood’s best young actresses, Anya Taylor-Joy.

And sports fans are in for a treat this weekend with the debut of Will Ferrell’s new Netflix comedy, The Hawk, the return of the football docuseries Quarterback and the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.

‘Ride or Die’ Season 1 – Prime Video

Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham in Ride or Die

Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham in Ride or Die.
Prime Video

How well do you know your best friend? That’s what former attorney and now discontented housewife Debbie (Octavia Spencer) asks herself when her BFF for decades, Judith (Hannah Waddingham), reveals a secret she’s been hiding from her for years – she’s really an elite assassin! With Debbie’s life in jeopardy, Judith has no choice but to protect her friend the only way she knows how – by killing lots of people with knives, guns and even her bare hands.

It sounds like a setup for an entertaining action-comedy film, but Ride or Die is an eight-episode series, with each episode clocking in at around 50 minutes. That’s the show’s primary weakness – this story is really better served in a tightly placed, 100-minute movie. But it’s still worth streaming for its two charismatic stars, who are given ample opportunities to showcase their skills in comedy, drama and punching guys in the face. Spencer and Waddingham are clearly having fun playing their complicated characters, and you’ll have fun watching them.

‘Lucky’ Season 1 – Apple TV

Anya Taylor-Joy Lucky Apple TV

Anya Taylor-Joy in ‘Lucky’.
Apple TV

Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong (Anya Taylor-Joy) usually lives up to her name – she’s been lucky conning people out of money. But when she gets involved in a multi-million dollar heist that goes horribly wrong, her luck runs out – fast. With her cohort and husband, Cary (Drew Starkey), missing, and a mob boss, Priscilla (Annette Bening), who wants the money Lucky owes her yesterday, Lucky will have to rely on her wits and, yes, a little luck, to make it out alive.

Apple TV has been killing it this summer, with the horror-comedy Widow’s Bay reaping multiple 2026 Emmy nominations and the thriller Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed becoming one of this season’s most binge-worthy shows. Lucky is just as good – and addictive – as those shows, with a never-better Taylor-Joy sinking her teeth into a role that’s part action heroine, part femme fatale and all fun.
The first two episodes are streaming now, with each subsequent episode released every Wednesday until the season finale on August 19.

‘Quarterback’ Season 3 – Netflix

Since its debut in 2023, Netflix’s Quarterback series has captivated both sports fans and viewers who’ve never touched a pigskin in their lives. The show transcends its sport by focusing on the complex humans underneath the helmets and shoulder pads. Season 1 featured Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, while season 2 showcased Joe Burrow, Jared Goff and Cousins.

In Quarterback season 3, four players are featured across its seven episodes, all streaming now on Netflix: Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, Baker Mayfield and Jayden Daniels. Some highlights include Ward’s journey as an NFL rookie during his debut season and football veteran Flacco navigating an unexpected trade from the Cleveland Brows to its rival team, the Cincinnati Bengals. In taking a look at the private lives of some of football’s biggest stars, Quarterback makes a compelling case that the more interesting drama happens off the field than on it.

‘The Hawk’ Season 1 – Netflix

Jimmy Tatro and Will Ferrell in The Hawk

Jimmy Tatro and Will Ferrell in The Hawk
Netflix

Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins (Will Ferrell) is all washed up. A veteran golf pro, he’s won almost every major tournament except one – the U.S. Open. Before he strikes his last golf ball, Lonnie wants to win the one significant trophy that’s eluded him, but his mediocre golf swing, combined with an in-his-prime rival, Golden Fisk (Luke Wilson), stands in his way. Can Lonnie win one last time?

While The Hawk has received mixed reviews from critics, it’s still worth watching to see Ferrell as an athlete still lost in his own ego. He’s supported by a terrific cast of newcomers and vets, including fellow SNL alum Molly Shannon, future Gorilla Grodd Jimmy Tatro and stand-up comedian Fortune Feimster.

Even though he’s about to begin a new partnership with NBCUniversal, Taylor Sheridan remains the MVP of Paramount with his roster of popular shows. Sheridan first gained recognition as a writer with the films Sicario and Hell or High Water; the latter earned him an Oscar nomination. He went on to write and direct the third in this spiritually connected trilogy of neo-Western films, Wind River, and then pivoted to television with his magnum opus, Yellowstone. The show spawned a franchise that continues to this day, even though Sheridan reportedly no longer has a hands-on involvement in it. The Yellowstone franchise’s two latest installments, Marshals and Dutton Ranch, emerged as massive hits in their own right this year, while Sheridan continues to work on new seasons of his other titles. One of them is about to return with a new season in just a couple of weeks.

In addition to Yellowstone and its two prequels, 1883 and 1923, Sheridan has created several popular shows for Paramount+. The crime dramas Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown have been renewed for fourth and fifth seasons, respectively. Meanwhile, the neo-Western hit Landman has been renewed for a third installment, too. Sheridan’s most recent Paramount+ show, The Madison, received a Season 2 order even before the first batch of episodes premiered. However, the first returning series on Sheridan’s slate is a spy thriller headlined by the Oscar-winning Zoe Saldaña.

Four worlds. All of them brutal, complicated, and built on power, loyalty, and the price of survival. Taylor Sheridan doesn’t write heroes — he writes people who do what they have to do and live with the cost. Ten questions will reveal which one of his worlds you were made for.

04

Where do you feel most in your element?
Sheridan’s worlds are as much about place as they are about people.

05

How do you feel about operating in the grey?

Tulsa King

⚖️
Mayor of Kingstown

You are a Dutton — or you might as well be. You understand that some things are worth protecting at any cost, and that the modern world’s indifference to history, to land, to legacy, is not something you’re willing to accept quietly. You lead from the front, you carry your family’s weight without complaint, and when someone threatens what’s yours, you don’t escalate — you finish it. You’re not cruel. But you are absolute. In Yellowstone’s world, that combination of ferocity and loyalty doesn’t make you a villain. It makes you the only thing standing between everything that matters and everyone who wants to take it.

You thrive in the chaos of high-stakes negotiation, where the money is enormous, the margins are thin, and the wrong word in the wrong room can cost everyone everything. You’re a fixer — the person called when a situation is already on fire and needs someone with the nerve to walk into it. West Texas oil country rewards exactly what you are: sharp, adaptable, unsentimental, and absolutely clear-eyed about what people want and what they’ll do to get it. You’re not naive enough to think this world is fair. You’re smart enough to be the one deciding who it’s fair to.

You are a Dwight Manfredi — someone who has served their time, paid their dues, and arrived somewhere unexpected with nothing but their reputation and their wits. You adapt without losing yourself. You build loyalty through respect rather than fear, though you’re not above reminding people that the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Tulsa King is for people who are still standing when everyone assumed they’d be finished — who find, in an unfamiliar place, that they’re more capable than the world gave them credit for. You don’t need a throne. You build one, wherever you happen to land.

You carry the weight of a system that is broken by design, and you do it anyway — because someone has to, and because you’re the only one positioned to do it without the whole thing collapsing. Mike McLusky’s world is for people who are comfortable operating where there are no good options, only less catastrophic ones. You speak every language: law enforcement, criminal, political, human. That fluency makes you invaluable and it makes you a target. You’ve made your peace with both. Mayor of Kingstown belongs to people who understand that keeping the peace is not the same as being at peace — and who do the job regardless.

Taylor Sheridan’s Spy Thriller Will Face Off Against ‘The Agency’ on Paramount+

We’re talking, of course, about Lioness. The show premiered in 2023 and returned with a second season in 2024. The third season will premiere on August 2, and will offer fresh competition on Paramount+ to the streamer’s other spy title, The Agency. That show, headlined by Michael Fassbender, returned with a second season in June. Lioness also features Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Michael Kelly and LaMonica Garrett in supporting roles. The show received mixed-to-positive reviews, with the first season sitting at a 54% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes and the second season displaying a remarkable improvement with a 90% score. Julianne Moore’s 6 Best Movie Masterpieces, Ranked

Published

on

Julianne Moore as Maude Lebowski standing in front of art looking past the camera in The Big Lebowski, 1998.

Julianne Moore has one of the most dangerous gifts an actor can have. Moore can make emotional exposure feel intelligent. Her characters are rarely simple victims, villains, mothers, lovers, or wives. There is usually something unstable under the surface, something private leaking into public life, and Moore knows exactly how to let that tension show without flattening the person into one clean idea.

That is why this list gets so stacked so fast. Moore fits each world differently, but the charge is always the same. She makes people readable and mysterious at once, which is why her best films keep gaining power the more you sit with them. Other than these six though, Moore has about 70 film credits to her name but these ones win for me.

‘The Big Lebowski’ (1998)

Julianne Moore as Maude Lebowski standing in front of art looking past the camera in The Big Lebowski, 1998. Image via Gramercy Pictures

The Big Lebowski is usually discussed through the Dude (Jeff Bridges), Walter Sobchak (John Goodman), bowling, ransom confusion, nihilists, and the Coens turning detective fiction into a stoned maze. Then Maude Lebowski (Julianne Moore) drops into the movie and changes the flavor of the whole thing. Moore takes a character who could have been a one-joke eccentric artist and makes her one of the smartest people in the room. Maude understands money, sex, image, inheritance, and the absurd male panic swirling around Bunny Lebowski (Tara Reid)’s disappearance.

What makes Moore so funny here is the absolute seriousness of Maude’s self-presentation. The flying harness, the art-world language, the clipped delivery, the refusal to treat the Dude’s confusion as important; all of it feels ridiculous and completely controlled. She wants a child, wants no romantic mess, and sees the Dude as useful in a way that somehow becomes both cold and hilarious. The movie’s chaos keeps pretending to be masculine, but Maude reads the situation cleaner than almost anyone.

‘May December’ (2023)

Elizabeth and Gracie looking at each other while facing a mirror in 'May December'
Elizabeth and Gracie looking at each other while facing a mirror in ‘May December’
Image via Netflix

May December is brutal because it understands how people turn scandal into a story they can survive. Gracie Atherton-Yoo (Julianne Moore) lives with Joe Yoo (Charles Melton), the man she began abusing when he was thirteen, and the film does something very uncomfortable with that history. It keeps the domestic surface calm enough to show how denial becomes routine. The house, the cakes, the kids, the polite conversations, the neighbors, the smiles; everything has been arranged around a lie that everyone knows and still steps around.

Moore’s Gracie is terrifying in ordinary ways. She can sound fragile, sweet, childish, wounded, maternal, and manipulative within the same conversation. Elizabeth Berry (Natalie Portman) arrives to study her for a movie role, and that turns the whole film into a sick mirror game about performance. Gracie has spent years acting as if her version of events is reality. Elizabeth watches, copies, judges, steals, and exposes the rot without becoming morally clean herself. Moore makes Gracie horrifying without turning her into a monster costume. That restraint is what makes the film sting and one of her best.

‘Children of Men’ (2006)

Clive Owen and Julianne Moore in Children of Men Image via Universal Pictures

Children of Men throws viewers into 2027, where human infertility has pushed the world into despair, authoritarian violence, refugee cages, and dead-end survival. Julian (Julianne Moore) is not in the movie for long, but her absence haunts the whole story. She leads the Fishes, a resistance group fighting inside a collapsing Britain, and she pulls Theo Faron (Clive Owen) back into action through a mission involving Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey), the first pregnant woman in eighteen years.

Julian matters because the movie needs history before it can have hope. She and Theo once had a child, Dylan, and that loss still sits between them. Their car scene has that rare lived-in ache where jokes, resentment, memory, and old love all pass through the same few minutes. Then the ambush hits, and the film rips away the possibility of repair. Children of Men is a masterpiece of chaos and motion, but Julian’s character is the wound that makes the movement mean something and Moore plays it well.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

‘Magnolia’ (1999)

Julianne Moore as Linda Partrisde walking ahead in Magnolia (1999). Image via New Line Cinema
Advertisement

Linda Partridge (Julianne Moore) could have been swallowed by Magnolia’s enormous ensemble. Paul Thomas Anderson has dying fathers, damaged children, quiz-show ghosts, cops, addicts, gurus, regret, coincidence, and biblical weather all fighting for space. Moore cuts through the noise by making Linda’s guilt feel almost unbearable to watch. She married Earl Partridge (Jason Robards) for money, then somehow ended up loving him near the end of his life, and now that love has arrived too late to feel clean.

Linda’s pharmacy breakdown, not asking for sympathy in some neat way, being furious at the pharmacist, at the prescription, at the judgment she hears under every question, and really at herself for needing mercy after living so selfishly — the complete performance is huge, messy, profane, and spiritually naked. That is exactly what Magnolia needed.

2

‘Far from Heaven’ (2002)

Cathy, played by Julianne Moore, and Raymond, played by Dennis Haysbert, in Far From Heaven. Image via Focus Features
Advertisement

Far from Heaven uses the visual language of 1950s melodrama, but the feelings underneath are savage. Cathy Whitaker (Julianne Moore) has the perfect Hartford home, the successful husband, the polite parties, the beautiful clothes, and the social role everyone around her knows how to read. Then she discovers Frank Whitaker (Dennis Quaid)’s hidden sexuality and forms a forbidden connection with Raymond Deagan (Dennis Haysbert), a Black gardener, and the world around her starts showing its real face.

Moore’s Cathy is heartbreaking because she has been trained to turn suffering into manners. She smiles when she is humiliated. She speaks carefully when her life is falling apart. She tries to be decent in a society that treats decency as a scandal once it crosses race, gender, or sexual boundaries. She has played it all beautifully. She shows beautifully that Cathy is a woman of her time slowly discovering that the life she was promised was built on silence.

1

‘Boogie Nights’ (1997)

Julianne Moore as Amber Waves smiling in Boogie Nights Image via New Line Cinema
Advertisement

Amber Waves (Julianne Moore) is one of Moore’s greatest roles because the character understands the fantasy and the damage at the same time. In Boogie Nights, the porn world around Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds)’s crew sells pleasure, fame, family, and freedom, but everyone inside it is carrying some private rupture. Amber becomes a mother figure to Dirk Diggler (Mark Wahlberg) and others on set, yet her own custody battle keeps reminding us that the warmth she gives this chosen family cannot repair the family she has lost.

Moore makes Amber glamorous, wrecked, tender, high, professional, and deeply sad without separating those pieces. Her scenes with Dirk have real affection, but they also expose how badly both people need the illusion they are building together. The courtroom material is crushing because Amber’s past and addiction get turned into evidence against her, and her love for her son has no power inside that system. Boogie Nights is a masterpiece because it sees the party, the comedy, the bodies, the music, and the money, then follows the hurt underneath. Amber is where that hurt becomes impossible to laugh off.

Shane Gillis Breaks Two Guinness World Records

Published

on

Shane Gillis

Shane Gillis has become one of comedy’s biggest stars, selling out arenas and earning a devoted following with his career. Now, the Pennsylvania native has reached another milestone after breaking two Guinness World Records during a sold-out show at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, cementing his place in comedy history.

On Friday, July 17, thousands gathered at Lincoln Financial Field to see Shane Gillis. The comedian has sold out massive arenas and stadiums across North America in the past, but his latest show reached another level after it broke two Guinness World Records.

According to reports, Gillis sold 77,047 tickets with 73,946 confirmed attendees, earning him the records for Most Tickets Sold for a Comedy Show by a Solo Comedian and the Largest Audience for a Comedian, respectively. The ticket sales milestone is a new title introduced by the organization, setting the number to beat at 54,000.

German comedian Mario Barth previously held the record for the largest audience for a comedian, a title he earned in 2008 after performing to a crowd of 67,733.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Andy Glass verified Gillis’ figures and said, “Tonight’s event was a powerful reminder that record-breaking achievements continue to capture people’s imagination around the world.”

Gillis’ record-breaking show pushed forward despite a Code Purple in Philadelphia due to “very unhealthy” air quality. Smoke plumes from the Canadian and Minnesota wildfires descended on the region, prompting officials to urge residents to stay indoors.

Ahead of his show, the comedian took to social media to tell his fans that he wouldn’t be canceling his performance. Fans said it was a bit hazy at the venue, but they were not too bothered. “I would put a hazmat suit on to Shane. I won’t miss this for the world,” one said.

Kicking off the show was former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, who hyped up the massive crowd with the iconic “E-A-G-L-E-S” chant. Jordan Mailata and Cooper DeJean also made appearances. Rapper Meek Mill then performed, followed by sets from comedians Matt McCusker, Big Jay Oakerson, and Dave Chapelle.

Gillis entered the venue to Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” and delivered an hour-long set. The show was closed by hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia.

Shane Gillis Built A Massive Career After ‘SNL’ Firing

Shane Gillis
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGA

Gillis began his stand-up comedy career in 2012 and was on the rise in 2019 when he was announced as the newest cast member on “SNL.” Days later, however, the comedian was fired before even appearing in a single episode due to derogatory language he used in an old podcast episode.

Despite the “SNL” fallout, Gillis was able to move past the controversy and slowly built a massive following from his podcast and YouTube sketch series “Gilly & Keeves.” In 2021, he self-funded a stand-up special that gained millions of views and skyrocketed his career, which was followed by a Netflix special.

Gillis has since returned to “SNL” following his firing, serving as host in both 2024 and 2025.

Gillis co-created the comedy show “Tires” with Steve Gerben and John McKeever. It follows Will (Gerben), who is struggling to turn around a family-owned auto repair shop. His efforts are frequently derailed by his cousin and employee, Shane (Gillis), whose antics create chaos.

Gillis and his co-creators made the show independently before Netflix bought it. “We wanted to make a show that feels like the sitcoms we grew up watching. Just a funny, regular workplace comedy,” he said.

Many comedians and celebrities have made appearances on the show, including Andrew Schulz, Tommy Pope, Vince Vaughn, Ron White, and John Lovitz. “Tires” has been renewed for a third season, which will premiere on Netflix on August 13.

Shane Gillis Has Sold More Than 1 Million Tickets On His Tour

Gillis kicked off the “Shane Gillis Live” tour in January 2025, following a highly successful eight-stop circuit in 2024. His tour has seen historic turnouts at venues including TD Garden in Boston, Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, and other major venues.

To date, Gillis has sold more than 1 million tickets across 100 headlining shows on his tour. His next stop is at the North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center on August 8.
