Some Bridgerton fans have been concerned about potential recasts — and now a former cast member is addressing the chances of them returning to the show.

Calam Lynch, who played Theo in season 2, was asked whether he was asked to come back, to which he told Swooon on Wednesday, July 15, “I mean, I don’t know. I loved doing the show, I really did.”

Lynch, 31, didn’t rule Theo returning for Eloise’s season.

“I’ve always felt that people like Jess Brownell, who runs the show, and Chris Van Dusen before her, know what’s best for those characters,” he continued. “And I think there’s a beauty to it being what it was.”

While Lynch hasn’t heard anything, he suggested how Theo could come back, saying, “If it was really intentional and thought about and done in a really subtle, interesting way, then of course. I love Claudia Jessie so much, she’s so great, and I love working with her, and all of that cast, they’re all great, but I dunno, it was a long time ago …”

Eloise’s near-romance with Theo ended abruptly and wasn’t addressed again. Her love story with Phillip (Chris Fulton) is expected to serve as the inspiration for season 5, which is based on Julia Quinn‘s To Sir Phillip, With Love novel.

“I don’t necessarily know how they’re gonna spin it or write it or what they’re going to keep and change,” Quinn exclusively told Us Weekly in February. “I love her story.”

She continued: “He’s got two kids who she has got to wrangle, which is awesome. The fact that Eloise is going to have an instant family is awesome. His twins are pretty ruthless to her so I hope they keep stuff like that in.”

When asked whether Fulton — who appeared in seasons 1 and 2 — would reprise his role or if a new actor would be brought in, Quinn noted that she doesn’t know the plan after changes have been made in other adaptations.

Quinn also addressed the chances of younger siblings Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) and Gregory (Will Tilston) being played by other actors by the time it’s their turn to be at the center of their own seasons.

“It’s funny because they were, like, 12 and 13 when they started. If you asked me that back then [about the same actors playing them as adults], I’d be like, ‘I don’t know.’ But when I saw them again at the premiere, they were both drinking wine,” Quinn told Us. “They’re both 18 now and Will was there with his girlfriend.”

The author pointed out that there were still a few years before It’s In His Kiss and On the Way to the Wedding will be featured with their own seasons.

“Jess [Brownell] has said the next two seasons will be either Eloise and then Francesca or Francesca and then Eloise, which makes sense. It takes a few years to film, so by the time we get to Hyacinth and Gregory, the actors are going to be well into their 20s,” Quinn explained. “So I think it’ll probably be OK. Will it be weird that we knew them when they were 12? We see child stars grow up all the time.”

Quinn said there’s a lot for fans to look forward to, adding, “As a writer, it was hard to write those two books at first. I really had to let them grow up in my mind a bit and that was hard for both of them. I was really glad it took several years — but even so — I can’t remember how much time passed in the writing. I really had to let them grow up. It was tough.”

Bridgerton is currently streaming on Netflix.

The phrase “classic” is used relatively when describing contemporary shows, given that television is an evolving medium that has changed significantly in the last decade. While the dawn of premium cable used to be seen as the single most defining evolution in how shows are funded and received, streaming has completely shifted the way that the market works. It is now not uncommon for shows to be treated like blockbuster films with massive budgets, A-list talent, and marketing campaigns that begin years in advance. It’s exciting that there is so much innovation that is done on the small screen, as it has opened up more opportunities in a time when the theatrical market is under stress due to the perilous limited release strategies that have made high-quality films inaccessible to those outside of major cities. However, increased budgets and attention do not necessarily make for an immediate jump in quality.

It’s a little bit unusual to think about shows from only two decades ago being now viewed as “classics,” but they do fit that definition when compared to the sheer amount of content that is released regularly. Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, and Disney+ will greenlight, renew, and cancel shows at such an alarming rate that it’s impossible to keep track of them all; given that most households subscribe to at least three or four streaming services, there is more content that they have access to than anyone could hope to watch within their lifetime. As easy as it is to be lured in by the promise of new shows that were made to address contemporary subjects, it’s worth diving into the past to rediscover the series that helped build the foundation on which modern television is based.

‘Twin Peaks’ (1990–2017)

Twin Peaks is the most influential show in history because David Lynch completely changed the way that audiences interacted with stories told on the small screen. Lynch disagreed with the format of crime procedurals that dismissed the plight of the victim by turning them into a “case of the week” and wanted to dig into the way that a shocking act of violence actually impacted a community. Twin Peaks told the serialized mystery of “Who killed Laura Palmer?” — the character is a high school prom queen played by Sheryl Lee. Although the show begins as a straightforward investigation into those within her hometown who may have been involved, it evolves into an epic drama about the community itself and how this one burst of violence reveals the ugly truths that lie beneath the surface.

Twin Peaks had a “water cooler effect” because it engaged new viewers with its mysteries and secrets, creating one of the first passionate fandoms. Although the series was cancelled at the end of its second season, Lynch believed strongly in continuing the story and directed the prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, which retold the events set right before the show from Laura’s perspective. The film was a financial disappointment that initially vexed fans who had wanted a firm conclusion to the cliffhanger that had ended Season 2, but it has steadily been appreciated as a masterpiece. Lynch finally returned to Twin Peaks in 2017 for a third season on Showtime that ranks among the most experimental, challenging, and complex works of filmmaking ever made and stands as the perfect swan song because it was his last major project.

‘The Sopranos’ (1999–2007)

The Sopranos is perhaps the show most often cited as “the greatest of all time,” and for good reason. David Chase wanted to create a complex psychological drama about a deeply disturbed anti-hero who struggled with the pressures of raising a family, and he merged it with his interest in Italian gangster films. The Sopranos did for mafia-related shows what The Godfather trilogy did for crime cinema; it took a genre that was otherwise considered to be “trashy” and turned it into an epic about loyalty, faith, human frailty, and the death of the American dream. James Gandolfini’s performance was brilliant because he showed vulnerability and humor within a monstrous character, all whilst making it abundantly clear that Tony Soprano was a psychopath who could never be perceived as a hero.

The Sopranos is the rare show that retained a consistent level of quality throughout its run, as it managed to get even more stylistically experimental as it went along. Season 2 showed the thematic and psychological depths the series could go to with “Funhouse,” and Season 3 offered the perfect “one-off” episode with the classic “Pine Barrens,” but it was in the Season 5 episodes “The Test Dream” and “Long Term Parking” that Chase revealed the tragic, mythic storytelling he was aiming for. While initially divisive, The Sopranos’ finale “Made in America” was the perfect way to end the series.

‘The Wire’ (2002–2008)

The Wire was a novelty among HBO shows because it was never a massive ratings hit and failed to get much attention from the Primetime Emmy Awards during its run, having only gained the support of critics and niche fans. However, everyone who saw The Wire came away impressed with what David Simon had achieved, making it an essential HBO show. Since Simon was a former crime reporter in Baltimore who had over a decade of experience, he was able to create a highly realistic series about the intersectionality between different infrastructures involved in the drug trade. By heightening the complexity with each season, The Wire felt closer and closer to reality as it went on.

The Wire is the rare show that offers a tremendous amount of practical information regarding the way that American law works, but it’s also highly entertaining and has at least a dozen of the greatest characters in television history. While it’s possible that the show could have gone on for longer had HBO allowed Simon to expand into a Season 6, the five installments that do exist are must-watches for anyone who considers themselves to be a serious television fan.

‘The Shield’ (2002–2008)

The Shield was a show that was ahead of its time and now feels more relevant than ever before. While American television has often lionized the role of law enforcement by treating cops as heroes, The Shield exposed the dark side of police corruption through the terrifying anti-hero Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis), a member of the LAPD strike force who is involved in both personal intimidation and taking down even more dangerous criminals. The series wrestled with the role that someone like Vic had, as he could both be used as a blunt instrument for good and initiate scandals that caused the entire city to collapse. The Shield refused to give its audience any easy answers, and its ambiguity has only made it age better.

The Shield succeeded in growing in scale with each subsequent season and managed to draw in award-winning guest stars like Glenn Close and Forest Whitaker to make appearances. There might not be a “bad” season of The Shield, but the series finale “Family Meeting” is one of the best of the century, as it offered the most thematically resonant closure for one of the bravest, most confrontational crime shows ever made.

’24’ (2001–2014)

24 redefined what a thriller show could look like because of its novel structure, made even more impressive because it aired on a network that didn’t have the advanced resources of premium cable. Every season of 24 consisted of 24 episodes, with each corresponding to the hour of a single day; the show progressed in real time, allowing audiences to be swept up in the adventures of the CIA counterterrorist agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) as he got to the root of various conspiracies and threats against the American public. The fact that the series began right after 9/11 only fueled the political fire, turning the series into a lightning rod of controversy. Although it might be easy to look at anything from the past that features problematic behavior and claim that it “hasn’t aged well,” 24 didn’t necessarily advocate for Bauer as a flawless hero; in fact, the show often explored the deep-seated corruption in American politics and questioned whether the end justified the means.

24 proved to be a successful franchise that frequently attracted notable actors for guest star roles and was surprisingly able to keep itself on a healthy pace with new seasons released on a yearly basis. A television film was released in-between seasons as a placeholder during the WGA strikes, and Sutherland reprised his role for an extended miniseries in 2014 that, thus far, serves as the final appearance by Bauer. Although there have been rumors about a potential reboot or continuation, it remains to be seen if 24 can be adapted into the modern television era. Nonetheless, it’s a great product of its time, and one that remains more gripping, exhilarating, and emotionally fulfilling than a vast majority of the content that streamers are releasing today.

To this day, the greatest Star Trek icon is William Shatner. As Captain Kirk, he taught all of us the importance of boldly going where no man had gone before. In many ways, the actor has led his life by this philosophy: after dominating sci-fi, he killed it in other genres, including cop dramas, legal procedurals, documentaries, and so much more. Heck, he even headlined some infectiously charming commercials for Priceline. After a while, it looked like there might be no new worlds for Shatner to conquer. However, he’s about to boldly go into his own final frontier with the project of a lifetime: leading his own heavy metal band!

I’ll be the first to admit that this news feels like something out of a fever dream. But as William Shatner’s colleague Avery Brooks once said so memorably on Deep Space Nine, “it’s real!” Shatner has assembled a heavy metal band called The *uckers, and they will be making their debut on September 20th at Chicago’s Riot Fest. This will be the group’s first live performance, but in a truly bizarre twist, their appearance took nearly two decades to arrange.

Captain Kirk Gets Heavy

While Riot Fest is mostly about established musical acts, they have a charming tradition of trying to woo various celebrities into attending and performing. For example, after a decade of increasingly wacky invites, the festival eventually convinced Full House star John Stamos into performing alongside the Beach Boys. Similarly, Riot Fest has courted Shatner for the last 17 years. He finally said yes, but instead of performing with a well-known band, the Star Trek legend decided to assemble his own group, the equivalent of a musical away team. 

Apparently, both the actor and the festival know how silly it is to have William Shatner playing heavy metal, and they collectively decided to lean into the humor by publishing a hilariously outlandish rider by the actor. The rider includes demands for Chicago to let Shatner co-anchor the local weather, name some local food after him, let him sing “Take Me Out To the Ball Game” at a baseball game, and name a boat after the actor that he can then captain.

Additionally, the rider requests a dressing room themed as “Shatner’s Shag Shack,” a bunch of adoptable puppies, an intro video from Gwar, and a bunch of Faygo that is not to be shared with the Insane Clown Posse. Oh, and he wants his artist’s golf cart replaced by a Delorean. Believe it or not, these are just a few of the winking, outrageous, and almost certainly fake demands.

Obviously, most of this is tongue-in-cheek, and as a Star Trek fan, it’s great to see Shatner playing along. But he also expressed some real sincerity in an official statement, writing that, “I’ve always believed that music, like space, is about exploration. Riot Fest is exactly the kind of place where anything can happen.” Continuing, he wrote, We’re bringing volume, intensity, and a few surprises. I can’t wait to share this experience with the fans.”

Somehow, Mr. Tambourine Man Returned

While Shatner is new to heavy metal, he’s not new to music, having released several albums in the past. Instead of taking on Riot Festival solo, the Star Trek actor assembled a band, The *uckers, consisting of several well-known musicians. This includes Marcus Nand on guitar, Phil Soussan on bass, Britt Lightning on guitar, and Fred Aching on drums. Together, they will play reimagined songs from Shatner’s musical history as well as songs from their amusingly titled debut album, What the F Is Heavy Metal. As he told People, “That’s the name of the album because I know nothing or didn’t know anything until I found out how little I do know.”

Sunny Hostin’s attempt to keep her son from receiving a trespassing citation is now playing out publicly, with newly released bodycam footage showing “The View” co-host repeatedly highlighting her television career, legal background, and her son’s Harvard education while speaking with police.

Despite Hostin’s efforts, officers moved forward with citing 24-year-old Gabriel Hostin after he was allegedly found on active Metro-North Railroad property in Westchester County, New York. Police explained that the alleged offense could have resulted in an arrest but said they reduced it to a trespassing violation because Gabriel cooperated and was not standing directly between the rails.

The June 16 encounter began after officers reportedly spotted Gabriel on the railroad right-of-way near New Rochelle.

Bodycam footage released by the MTA Police Department and obtained by TMZ shows officers approaching Gabriel on the tracks and temporarily placing him in handcuffs while he spoke with his mother over the phone.

After officers moved to a nearby street, Sunny arrived and immediately explained who she was. “My name is Sunny Hostin and I’m one of the co-hosts of ‘The View’ and I’m a former federal prosecutor,” she told police.

The 57-year-old television personality then emphasized her son’s background while arguing that he had made an innocent mistake. “That’s my son. He’s a Harvard graduate, he doesn’t have a criminal record,” Hostin said. “He knows. He’s a Harvard grad who teaches 4th grade geometry to South Bronx kids.”

Hostin also described Gabriel as “not a kid who’s ever in trouble” as she asked officers not to issue the citation.

Officers Said The Alleged Offense Could Have Led To An Arrest

Gabriel reportedly told officers that he had been running when he noticed a gravel incline that appeared suitable for hill training. He claimed he entered through an open gate and did not realize he had crossed onto restricted railroad property.

Police, however, said Gabriel had been found on the right-of-way of active tracks in an area with posted “No Trespassing” warnings. When an officer informed him that he would receive a trespassing citation, Gabriel asked, “Is this necessary?” The officer responded, “Yes.”

Gabriel then questioned what would happen if an officer chose not to issue the ticket. Police said their “hands were tied” and stressed that the situation could have ended more seriously. “Because it is an arrestable offense. I want to make that clear, okay?” one officer explained.

The officer said police were “dimming it down to a trespass violation” because Gabriel had not been standing in the gauge, the area between the rails, and had remained cooperative. “We know you’re not a criminal or anything like that, but our hands are tied with cameras everywhere,” the officer added.

While reports have described the incident as an arrest, TMZ previously reported that court records characterized it as a citation that did not involve an arrest. The newly released footage does show Gabriel being briefly handcuffed during the initial encounter.

Hostin Claims An Open Gate Caused The Confusion

The bodycam footage gives additional context to the argument Hostin later presented to prosecutors: that her son entered through an open gate and did not knowingly disregard a visible warning.

MTA Police also released an image of the gate and the “No Trespassing” sign Gabriel said he did not notice. Hostin has argued that because the gate was standing open, the sign attached to it was not readily visible as he entered the area.

The family also reportedly told officers that they had moved to the area within the past year, suggesting Gabriel was still unfamiliar with his surroundings. That explanation now sits at the center of Hostin’s request for the case to be dismissed. Rather than disputing that Gabriel entered railroad property, she is arguing that he lacked the intent to trespass and reasonably believed the incline was accessible.

Hostin, who previously worked as a federal prosecutor before becoming a legal analyst and joining “The View,” is listed as her son’s attorney in the case.

In a letter sent to Westchester Assistant District Attorney Amanda Greene, Hostin asked prosecutors to dismiss the citation before Gabriel’s scheduled July 31 court appearance. “My client is a 2025 Harvard University graduate with no criminal history or prior contact with the criminal justice system,” she wrote. “He is an avid runner and former Junior Olympian track athlete who was in the area training.”

Hostin said her son saw what appeared to be a gravel hill that he could use during his workout. “Although there was a gate at the entrance of the gravel incline, the gates were standing open,” she wrote. “The only ‘No Trespassing’ sign was affixed to the left gate and, because the gates were open, it was not visible to my client as he entered the property.”

“He reasonably believed the area was accessible and had no intention of entering private property unlawfully,” she added.

Hostin Argues The Citation Creates ‘Unnecessary Consequences’

Hostin concluded her letter by arguing that continuing the case would serve little public interest, particularly given her son’s clean record and cooperation with police. “Dismissal would avoid imposing unnecessary consequences on a young man who has demonstrated exceptional character and achievement and who poses no risk to the community,” she wrote.

The footage nevertheless shows that the same accomplishments Hostin cited in her legal request, including her son’s Harvard degree, community work, and lack of a criminal record, did not persuade officers to abandon the citation at the scene.

Gabriel is currently expected to appear in New Rochelle City Court on July 31.

“Chrisley Knows Best” star Lindsie Chrisley has broken her silence on her May 2026 DUI arrest on a new episode of her “Coffee Convos” podcast.

The reality star, 36, made headlines earlier this year after she was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, attempting to evade police, reckless driving, and a slew of other charges while driving her car in Georgia.

According to Lindsie Chrisley, she’s dealt with mental health struggles over the last year, adding that it’s caused many problems in her personal life.

Speaking with MTV veteran Kailyn Lowry on their shared podcast, Lindsie said she takes her ongoing legal woes very seriously. She said that she hasn’t been able to comment publicly because she’s stayed off social media and deleted all the apps from her phone. “If people are sending me messages, I’m not getting them,” she said.

According to TMZ, Lindsie was arrested and booked in jail in Georgia in May 2026 before bonding out the next day. She told the publication that she was pulled over for speeding past a car on a two-lane road after trying to avoid being hit by another car that swerved to avoid an animal.

Lindsie Chrisley Has Struggled With Her Mental Health Over The Last Year

During the podcast episode, Lindsie admitted that she’s struggled with her mental health over the last year. She mentioned her life as a public figure, adding that while she enjoys what she does, it can cause issues for her and those around her.

“When you share so openly things about your personal life in your job, it can cause a lot of problems. I do think the emotional state that I’ve been in over the last year, some of that has been from investing in what listeners are saying or investing in what the Reddit folks are saying online and the conspiracy theories and all the things,” she said.

Lindsie further opened up about the situation on an episode of her “Southern Tea” podcast and asked the audience for “grace” as she navigates her ongoing legal troubles. While she couldn’t say much, Lindsie assured her listeners that she was taking her situation “very seriously.” As she prepares to deal with the matter head-on, Lindsie explained that her focus is on moving forward, growing, and “respecting” the legal process.

She also said that her arrest and subsequent legal problems have forced her to settle down and reflect on where she’s at in her life. “I do think that this was, kind of, a hard-stop moment for me to be like, ‘OK, everything needs to get in line and sh-t needs to be gotten in order because you cannot continue going down the path of operating off of heartbreak and betrayal and lack of confidence,’” she said.

“Like, you cannot continue carrying that every single day because I’m just going to sit in it.’ I think I’ve sat in it long enough. Not to make light of anything, but it was a great time-out for me,” she added.

Lindsie’s Ex-Boyfriend Was Arrested And Took A Bloody Mugshot

In addition to the DUI drama, Lindsie made headlines in April 2026 when her ex-boyfriend went viral due to his bloody mugshot. According to The Blast, Lindsie and her boyfriend allegedly got into a heated altercation that resulted in the man going “berserk” after Lindsie tried to leave.

A source said that her ex-boyfriend was the one who called local authorities, but due to the visible injuries on Lindsie’s body, he was the one arrested and booked on a count of aggravated assault. His mugshot made its rounds primarily because he looked disheveled and had a bloody streak running down the side of his face.

It was a surprising turn of events, given that, before that, the man had asked Lindsie’s father, Todd Chrisley, for her hand in marriage in a heartfelt Instagram post in July 2025.

And speaking of Todd, the reality star turned convicted felon previously said that he’s done with his eldest daughter, claiming that she’s hurt him and his family in immeasurable ways.

‘Ride or Die’ Season 1 – Prime Video

How well do you know your best friend? That’s what former attorney and now discontented housewife Debbie (Octavia Spencer) asks herself when her BFF for decades, Judith (Hannah Waddingham), reveals a secret she’s been hiding from her for years – she’s really an elite assassin! With Debbie’s life in jeopardy, Judith has no choice but to protect her friend the only way she knows how – by killing lots of people with knives, guns and even her bare hands.

It sounds like a setup for an entertaining action-comedy film, but Ride or Die is an eight-episode series, with each episode clocking in at around 50 minutes. That’s the show’s primary weakness – this story is really better served in a tightly placed, 100-minute movie. But it’s still worth streaming for its two charismatic stars, who are given ample opportunities to showcase their skills in comedy, drama and punching guys in the face. Spencer and Waddingham are clearly having fun playing their complicated characters, and you’ll have fun watching them.

‘Lucky’ Season 1 – Apple TV

Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong (Anya Taylor-Joy) usually lives up to her name – she’s been lucky conning people out of money. But when she gets involved in a multi-million dollar heist that goes horribly wrong, her luck runs out – fast. With her cohort and husband, Cary (Drew Starkey), missing, and a mob boss, Priscilla (Annette Bening), who wants the money Lucky owes her yesterday, Lucky will have to rely on her wits and, yes, a little luck, to make it out alive.

Apple TV has been killing it this summer, with the horror-comedy Widow’s Bay reaping multiple 2026 Emmy nominations and the thriller Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed becoming one of this season’s most binge-worthy shows. Lucky is just as good – and addictive – as those shows, with a never-better Taylor-Joy sinking her teeth into a role that’s part action heroine, part femme fatale and all fun.
The first two episodes are streaming now, with each subsequent episode released every Wednesday until the season finale on August 19.

‘Quarterback’ Season 3 – Netflix

Since its debut in 2023, Netflix’s Quarterback series has captivated both sports fans and viewers who’ve never touched a pigskin in their lives. The show transcends its sport by focusing on the complex humans underneath the helmets and shoulder pads. Season 1 featured Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, while season 2 showcased Joe Burrow, Jared Goff and Cousins.
