This Bond-Era Throwback Spy Series Has a New Season 2 Twist
Although updates are steadily arriving, it still feels like we are a long way away from the return of James Bond. Daniel Craig‘s last outing as 007 in No Time to Die debuted in October 2021, and it is unlikely we will see another face take the role for quite some time, seeing as a casting announcement is yet to arrive. We know that Denis Villeneuve will take over the franchise’s new Amazon MGM Studios era, and he won’t officially begin the search for the next Bond until he wraps Dune: Part Three.
Luckily for fans of Britain’s most famous fictional spy, a brand-new spy thriller has just landed on ITV and has caught the eye of some. Betrayal, written by award-winning playwright and screenwriter David Eldridge and directed by BAFTA and Emmy nominee Julian Jarrold, made its debut this past Sunday, and its many twists and turns have already raised questions about a second season.
Shaun Evans, who portrays MI5 agent John, was asked about a potential Season 2 in a recent interview, with the Vigil star replying, “We set out to make a four-parter which was strong and felt like it had no filler, that it wasn’t hanging around, that it was tight and concise, and that the story was really strong.” He continued, “And then you offer that to the world, and if there’s an appetite for more, then we will get together and discuss whether there’s more story to tell.”
But it seems there was never an intent to turn Betrayal into a recurring series from the start, with Evans adding, “It wasn’t like, ‘This is a brilliant setup for running and running and running’,” he said. “I think you’re on a hiding to nothing if you do that. To me, it feels quite cynical.”
What Is ‘Betrayal’ About?
Not all spy thrillers are the same, but it can be difficult for them to stand out in a packed genre. A synopsis for Betrayal reads, “At the heart of the story is John Hughes, a mid-career MI5 officer navigating a rapidly evolving intelligence landscape while struggling to keep his personal life intact. On a hunch, John meets a British-Iranian man with links to the Stockport gangland who claims he has intelligence about a plot on UK soil.” It continues:
“Before he can share intel, the informant is executed, and John kills the assassin in self-defence. John soon finds himself under internal investigation, facing scrutiny from his superiors, including Simone Grant (Nikki Amuka-Bird), while his partner Claire (Romola Garai) grapples with the secrecy that defines his world.”

Zach Bryan Slams Turning Point USA 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show
Zach Bryan has entered the 2026 Super Bowl halftime battle chat, slamming Turning Point USA for putting on a rival show during Bad Bunny’s official performance.
“I don’t care what side you’re on, a bunch of adults throwing temper tantrums and their own halftime show is embarrassing as hell and the most cringe s*** on the planet,” Bryan, 29, allegedly wrote in a since-deleted Instagram Story post on Monday, February 9, according to Fact Post and Country Chord.
One day prior, the “Pink Skies” singer shared an Instagram Story directed at the Turning Point USA All-American Halftime Show headliner Kid Rock.
In the Sunday, February 8, photo, someone tried to cover their TV screen with their hand as Bad Bunny, 31, took the stage during Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, while the user watched Kid Rock’s alternative show on their phone.
“What Kid Rock actually thinks is happening across America,” Bryan captioned the post, taking a jab at the rocker.
The battle of the halftime shows has been making waves since fall 2025, after Bad Bunny was announced as the headliner for Super Bowl 60.
While some fans were excited to see the rapper on such a big stage, the NFL received backlash by conservatives, media pundits and Republican politicians — including President Donald Trump — who argued Bad Bunny wasn’t American or American “enough” because he hails from Puerto Rico and performs primarily in Spanish. (Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and Puerto Ricans are United States citizens.) .

Amid the backlash, Turning Point USA, founded by the late Charlie Kirk and now helmed by his widow Erika Kirk, announced in October 2025 that the right-wing organization would host an alternative halftime show.
According to Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet, the show was meant to serve as “an opportunity for all Americans to enjoy a halftime show with no agenda other than to celebrate faith, family, and freedom.”
Kid Rock, 55, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett were all announced as acts performing at the secondary show.
Ahead of the Super Bowl, Kid Rock addressed the alleged rivalry between the two shows, saying in a February 2 statement, “We plan to play great songs for folks who love America.”
He explained, “We’re approaching this show like David and Goliath. Competing with the pro football machine and a global pop superstar is almost impossible … or is it?”
The “All Summer Long” singer then spoke about Bad Bunny and took a jab at what he claimed was the singer’s planned performance. “He’s said he’s having a dance party, wearing a dress, and singing in Spanish? Cool. We plan to play great songs for folks who love America,” Kid Rock added.
When it came time to actually perform on Sunday during the break between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots football game both shows had fans tune in to show support. (The Seahawks beat the Patriots 29-13.)
Bad Bunny made history by singing the entire show in Spanish. He brought out surprise guests like Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin to perform, while celebrities like Alix Earle, Jessica Alba and Pedro Pascal were spotted dancing on the field as part of his lavish performance.
Toward the end of halftime, Bad Bunny was seen holding a football that read, “Together, we are America.”
Bad Bunny also gave a shout-out to all of the Americas, including Latin America, the Caribbean, the United States and Canada, amid controversy surrounding ICE raids in the U.S. that are targeting illegal immigration.
“The only thing more powerful than hate is love,” a giant message on the stadium jumbotron read as Bad Bunny exited the field.

Lady Gaga Thanks Bad Bunny for Super Bowl 2026 Halftime Show Guest Spot
Lady Gaga is expressing her gratitude to Bad Bunny for letting her be part of his record-breaking Super Bowl LX halftime show performance.
“Thank you Benito for including me in this powerful, important, and meaningful performance,” Gaga, 39, wrote via Instagram on Monday, February 9, alongside a photo of the Joker star and Bad Bunny, 31, behind the scenes of Super Bowl 60. “I am so humbled to be a part of this moment.”
The singer continued, “It’s all the more special because it was with you and your beautiful heart and music. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ All my love to Benito, Ricky and the whole cast.”
Gaga (real name Stefani Germanotta) also shared her appreciation for her stylists Chloe Delgadillo and Chenelle Delgadillo, thanking the pair for her “beautiful styling and fashion.”
“All of your talent and love made that beautiful dress come to life,” she added.
Gaga was one of Bad Bunny’s surprise guests during the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, February 8, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, as the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots faced off in the NFL championship. (The Seahawks walked away Super Bowl champs for the second time in the franchise’s history.)
The Grammy winner joined the rapper on stage to perform a solo version of her and Bruno Mars’ duet “Die With a Smile.” The arrangement was changed to give the song an appropriate salsa flair. The singer also paid homage to Bad Bunny’s Puerto Rican heritage by donning a blue pleated dress with a brooch featuring Puerto Rico’s national flower, the flor de maga.
While on stage, Gaga and Bad Bunny (real name Benito Martínez Ocasio) shared a sweet dance. In addition to Gaga, Ricky Martin sang during the halftime show. Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal, Karol G, Alix Earle, Cardi B and Jessica Alba all made cameos during the La Casita portion of the performance, a recurring symbol in Bad Bunny’s tour and Puerto Rico residency.
Days before their Super Bowl, Gaga and Bad Bunny shared a sweet interaction at the 2026 Grammys. After Bad Bunny won the award for Best Música Urbana Album, Gaga came up to the rapper to speak to him. After the ceremony, Bad Bunny shared details about the pair’s interaction.
“She said, ‘I love you!’ And that’s it,” Bad Bunny told Access Hollywood about crossing paths with Gaga at the awards show. “And I was like, ‘I love you too!’”
Bad Bunny and Gaga’s history dates back way before they shared the Super Bowl LX stage. In 2020, Bad Bunny revealed he was a big fan of Gaga’s music after he was spotted wearing a T-shirt featuring the pop star’s Chromatica cover art.
“That album makes me feel more happy,” Bad Bunny told E! News of his Chromatica fandom at the time. “When she dropped that album, I was in a really good moment, enjoying my life. I love that album.”
Four years later, Gaga shared that she was also a big fan of Bad Bunny and dreamed of working with him one day.
“I’m actually a very big Bad Bunny fan,” she told Despierta América in September 2024. “Yes, I love Bad Bunny. If he wants to [work together], of course. I would love to.”

Candace Cameron Bure Recalls Her Kids’ Reactions To Sex Conversation

The star explained during this week’s episode of her podcast “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast” that she had a very open conversation with her kids about sex as soon as they got older.
Cameron Bure noted that she may have left them a bit uncomfortable all the time with these discussions, but every chance she got, she spoke about it.
Despite their reaction, the star noted that she enjoyed discussing sex with them because she wanted to pass a message of her being a very safe space with such a sensitive topic.
Cameron Bure stressed that she made these talks as fun as possible, and she was very comfortable discussing them to cushion any feeling of embarrassment or shame in those conversations. In her words:

“I think that shame can start very much with that if we’re not really told about our bodies and how they function, how they work, what they’re made for. How God views them. When there’s a misunderstanding there, that can very much develop our view of shame, and when we feel that way.”

The Actress Was Beyond Excited To Co-Plan Her Only Daughter’s Wedding Last Year
Cameron Bure welcomed three kids with her husband, Valeri Bure, one of whom got married in September, over a year after one of her sons tied the knot in January 2024. The actress had raved to US Weekly about being very hands-on during her daughter’s wedding last September.
According to her, her daughter, Natasha, did not have a wedding coordinator, forcing her to step in and become the person who got to listen to her ideas and actualize them, which she found very fun as they got ready for her big day.
The actress had gushed about her kids and their dating lives a few years back, noting that she feels super great about the dating, because she trusts them enough not to make terrible decisions.

Inside Candace Cameron Bure’s Happy Family Of Five
According to PEOPLE, the latest bride in the family, and Cameron Bure’s oldest child, Natasha Valerievna, was welcomed in August 1998 and quietly tailed behind her mom into stardom by appearing on the 11th season of ‘The Voice’ at age 17.
She was chosen to be mentored by Adam Levine, but unfortunately dropped from the race two performances in. Natasha described her audition as grabbing the opportunity before her while getting a good experience out of the growth.
She has since channeled that energy into appearances in some Hallmark Channel movies, one episode of “Fuller House,” and an “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries” production alongside her mother.
Natasha described her marriage in 2025 as a reminder of how blessed she is to be marrying her best friend, which is also surreal and overwhelming in all the best ways.
The actress welcomed her second child, Lev Valerievich, in 2000 and quickly got involved in the family business, the Bure Family Wines, which was founded in 2006. Cameron Bure revealed in a 2021 interview that he lived in Napa Valley and was a third-year student at Liberty University.
Lev tied the knot with Elliot Dunham in 2024, according to pictures from the actress’s social media account, where she raved about the family gaining a beautiful daughter and a wonderful family to do life with.

Cameron Bure and her husband expanded their family with Maksin Valerievich’s birth in 2002, who attended the Northstar Christian Academy and graduated in May 2021. He also attended Liberty University and played hockey like his dad during his first year.
The Author Revealed How Her First Son Saved Her Nearly Three-Decade-Old Marriage

Last year, the 49-year-old confessed on her podcast that 2020, during the pandemic, was a very trying season for her marriage to Valeri as things went very downhill with their marriage, and she did not think they would make it. Valeri and the Hollywood personality tied the knot in 1996 when she was just 20 years old.
As shared by The Blast, Cameron Bure noted that her first son, Lev, swung in just in time to salvage their dwindling union with a very 45-minute address from his Bible during a session where they talked about faith and marital values.
The media personality stated that her son admitted that, despite his not being married at the time and being super young to give marriage advice, he could still hear the word of God about his parents and their marriage.

Cameron Bure explained that her son’s maturity and calmness joined forces with the wisdom of his words, and they walked away from the conversation with a fresh perspective to put in more work in their marriage and make things work.
However, Lev did not take the credit alone. He revealed on the podcast with his mother that he, alongside his siblings, actually had a crucial discussion about the whole thing and concluded that they want more than anything for their parents to be together.
Candace Cameron Bure’s Strategy For Dealing With Internet Trolls

The podcaster stated last November that she is no longer about defending herself against internet trolls moving forward, after a lengthy history of being involved in scandals over social issues and politics over the years.
The Blast stated that during her appearance on Madison Prewett’s “Stay True” podcast, she described the few feuds she had gotten into in recent years as just weird.
She emphasized that it is also very rare to see her fight back in the comment section because it gets defensive and also reflects poorly on her integrity. The star announced that the new space she operates in mostly involves leaving her battles for God to fight.

Cameron Bure added that she also leans on her genuine fans to fight her battles because sometimes they help her clear the wrong narrative and set facts straight in the face of lies. Alongside these factors, she also thanked her self-reflection for teaching her to give grace to other people as well.

Tracy Scroggins, Longtime NFL Player, Dead At 56
Tracy Scroggins, who spent all 10 seasons of his career as a member of the Detroit Lions, has died at 56 years old, TMZ Sports has learned.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Tracy Scroggins,” the Scroggins family said in a statement sent to us.
“Tracy was a devoted father, cherished family member, and loyal friend whose life was marked by remarkable strength and perseverance. While many knew him for his career as a professional football player in the NFL, those closest to him knew him as a kind-hearted and generous man who cared deeply for his family and friends.”
The family continued … “Playing in the NFL gave Tracy the opportunity to pursue his lifelong dream and to rise from poverty. However, unfortunately, the NFL was also ultimately the cause of his untimely demise. Tracy spent every moment of retirement courageously battling the devastating effects of CTE. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace.”
Back in 1992, Scroggins, a linebacker and defensive end, was a 2nd round draft pick out of Tulsa, where he went 53rd overall.
Over the course of his time in the National Football League, he accumulated 321 tackles and 60.5 sacks. He also had one interception.
Scroggins retired from football in 2001 after 142 games played.
In 2016, he filed a lawsuit against the NFL, alleging CTE.
The cause and circumstances surrounding Scroggins’ death aren’t clear.

Netflix’s Intense 2-Part Pure Thriller Series Is the Perfect Weekend Binge
David Fincher’s deal with Netflix has not always yielded the fanfare he was accustomed to with theatrical releases, but some ventures produced the best thrillers of all time. Crime has been a brand that works for the director, going back as far as the ‘90s. Adaptations have been in Fincher’s sweet spot, gaining appreciation for thrillers such as Zodiac and Gone Girl. He reaches even greater heights in the television world.
Fincher used his considerable talents to bring John E. Douglas’ autobiographical book, Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, to Netflix. The result was Mindhunter, arguably one of the most celebrated original series from the streaming platform. It was also the series that broke fans’ hearts the most. Typical of Fincher’s style, Mindhunter was visually glossy while emotionally gritty. It had everything going for it, which made it all the more heartbreaking when it was pushed into Netflix limbo after two seasons.
‘Mindhunter’ Was Prestige Television at Its Best
Mindhunter had the unfortunate luck of premiering on Netflix. On any other platform, it may have reached the audience it needed to. Though the crime series has a loyal fan base, the viewership wasn’t enough for the streamer to justify its budget. For two seasons, however, Mindhunter redefined what fans could expect from a true crime series.
The show was a heightened interpretation of John E. Douglas’ book, while also strikingly close to reality. Jonathan Groff stars as Holden Ford, the fictionalized version of Douglas, who was a significant part of creating the psychological profiling department of the FBI. A hostage negotiator for the Bureau, Holden becomes dismayed at how crime in the modern era has become so grim. The rise of serial and spree killers baffles law enforcement, which leads Holden to collaborate with Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) in creating a new way of catching killers. With the help of Dr. Wendy Carr (Anna Torv), the team decides to interview convicted killers to create a psychological profile. The Silence of the Lambs writer, Thomas Harris, used Douglas as inspiration for his FBI director character, Jack Crawford.
Mindhunter takes this a step further and grounds the story in reality. The first season portrays the creation of the FBI profiling program and the real killers they interview. Edmund Kemper, Jerry Brudos, and David Berkowitz were some of the many real-life figures who were brought to life with harrowing accuracy. Holden risks a lot to get close to these killers — closer than anyone ever had before. Mindhunter examines how dangerously close Holden gets to these people, particularly Kemper, who acts as a terrifying foil for the FBI agent.
The series resists sensationalizing true crime as so many series have before. Instead, it focuses on ethical and character-driven dilemmas as the profilers enter a new world of crime that is more intense than it has been before. Mindhunter isn’t about putting killers on a pedestal. It shows them unflinchingly, which doesn’t elevate them but demonstrates what monsters they are. The authentic emotion and hyperrealism made Mindhunter unlike anything before, and it has not been replicated since.

The Iconic, R-Rated 90s Video Game That’s Screaming For A Film Adaptation
By Robert Scucci
| Published

If you grew up in the 90s playing first-person shooters on MS-DOS, you probably have fond memories of sneaking in sessions of Duke Nukem 3D. While we never had gaming consoles in my household, my parents had no qualms about me playing PC games like Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein. For reasons I will never fully understand, Super Mario Bros. was forbidden fare, but blasting space demons and zombies with rocket launchers and mowing down Nazis with machine guns was considered a perfectly acceptable way to spend a rainy afternoon.
I think the real reason was that my parents did not want to spend money on a console when we already had a perfectly good computer sitting in the family room. In retrospect, I kind of respect that decision. It meant I had access to adventure puzzle games like The Seventh Guest and Myst, along with the above-mentioned shooters that were absolutely not meant for kids my age.

In 1996, Duke Nukem 3D was everywhere, and I remember watching my dad get hooked on it one weekend in his office. I could hear explosions and laughter through the door, which naturally made me curious. That was my introduction to a game that was wildly inappropriate for a kid, but I was lucky enough to have parents who let me watch R-rated action movies as long as we talked about why certain behaviors on screen were not meant to be copied in real life.
That brings me to the real heart of this article. Why, in the year 2026, do we still not have a Duke Nukem movie? The property feels tailor-made for an R-rated action comedy. It is violent, self-aware, and ridiculous. There are strippers and aliens, pigs dressed as cops, lizard troopers, and catchphrases pulled straight from films like Aliens, Dirty Harry, They Live, Jaws, and Pulp Fiction. Duke Nukem 3D is routinely cited as one of the greatest video games ever made, and the franchise reportedly generated well over a billion dollars by the early 2000s. A faithful adaptation would go absolutely gangbusters.
A Simple Yet Effective Action Hero

A movie based on the Duke Nukem character would not be difficult to pull off because the story is intentionally lean. Duke arrives in Los Angeles aboard his space cruiser, ready for a much-needed vacation. His ship gets shot down by aliens who have invaded and taken over the city, and he is understandably irritated about having to clean up their mess. Armed with his Mighty Foot and an arsenal that includes shotguns, triple-barrelled chain guns, grenade launchers, and pipe bombs, Duke tears through Assault Troopers, Pig Cops, Battlelord Sentries, and Enforcers.
What truly sets Duke Nukem 3D apart from its contemporaries is how interactive the environments are. Duke crawls through air vents, blows apart buildings by hitting detonation switches that are just laying around willy-nilly, kicks fire hydrants and drinks from water fountains to power up, and even tips strippers for a quick show before getting back to work. It is juvenile, excessive, and completely unapologetic. When Duke says he is here to kick ass and chew bubblegum, a quote attributed to Roddy Piper in They Live!, he means it.

The amount of controversy the game attracted from special interest groups over its content is exactly why Duke Nukem would thrive as an R-rated action comedy today. With the right creative team attached, the tone does not need to be reinvented or overhauled at all.
Attempts Have Been Made
There has never been a shortage of interest in bringing Duke Nukem to the big screen. As early as 2001, when the franchise was riding high, Threshold Entertainment attempted to get a feature film off the ground, but it never made it out of development. Another effort surfaced in 2008 from Max Payne producer Scott Faye, though that version stalled just as quickly.

The closest we came to a Duke Nukem movie was in 2018, when Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes were having discussions with John Cena to take on the lead role. It was a near-perfect casting choice, but the rights were in transition at the time, and the project was quietly shelved.
The most recent development came in 2022, when Legendary Entertainment announced that it had acquired the rights to produce a Duke Nukem film, with Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz attached. Since then, updates have been scarce, which unfortunately feels par for the course for this franchise.

If it takes another five years for anything concrete to happen, so be it. I just hope Cena is still able to step into the role. Projects like Ricky Stanicky have already proven that his comedic timing is a perfect match for a character like Duke Nukem. The image of him kicking a fire hydrant for health before tossing a pipe bomb into a movie theater and getting frisky with the ladies deserves to exist outside of my imagination.
What this movie needs is simple. Enemies that respawn endlessly, one-liners delivered without restraint, and waves of identical henchmen getting obliterated as Duke reluctantly fights his way back to vacation. This does not need to be high art. It needs to be an ultra-violent alien invasion, solved by the coolest video game character to ever appear on a computer screen.

‘The Rookie’ Season 8 Episode 6 Is Teasing the Dangerous Return of a Chilling Serial Killer
Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for The Rookie Season 8, Episode 6.
The latest episode of ABC’s The Rookie opens up with Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) and Miles Penn (Deric Augustine) heading to a crystal shop a few days before Valentine’s Day. It’s so much fun to see this budding friendship between the new roommates, and the focus on Celina’s mystical beliefs is always entertaining to me. But instead of just stocking up on crystals, Miles accidentally gets a curse placed on him when he stands in front of a disgruntled customer. Celina feels guilty about ducking the spell and allowing the curse to land smack-dab on Miles and the man (who eventually dies in a pretty shocking way), but what makes the episode so captivating is the idea that Miles now has a target on his back, straight from the universe itself. He endures pepper-spraying himself and spider bites (which he’s allergic to), but by the episode’s end, it’s no laughing matter when Miles actually comes close to death.
‘The Rookie’ Presents a Villainous Arsonist, Leading to Serious Danger for Our Crew
While Miles and John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) are on duty, they notice a swan boat on fire in the middle of the lake. Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan) shows up and identifies that it was a case of arson. This is another time when Bailey somehow inexplicably takes on a new job as an arson investigator and proceeds to tell the cops exactly how to move forward with their investigation. Not only is this incredibly unlikely, but it results in these scenes feeling way more cheesy. The cops also learn that a dry cleaning store has been targeted, leading them to realize that the arson is playing off a theme of Swan Lake. The gang then identifies a possible suspect as Arnold McKenna, but he insists he has an alibi.
Through some detective work, the Mid-Wilshire crew realizes that McKenna actually has a protégé named Mandy Fisk. Firebug Mandy, along with her girlfriend, was setting the fires together as a way to flirt. In a wild escalation, Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Celina almost hit a man who runs into their shop. As he walks away, we realize it’s McKenna, and he’s placed an explosive under their vehicle. They park like normal in the station, when suddenly, there’s a humongous explosion. There’s fire everywhere, and multiple injured cops. Celina has a piece of glass in her arm, but she and Lucy are able to rescue as many people as they can, like Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox), who’s trapped under some rubble. Lucy also saves her boyfriend, Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), and Celina rescues Miles, who is almost a goner because of the curse. Luckily, everyone is going to be okay, and McKenna is arrested when he shows up at the hospital. And to everyone’s relief, Celina’s boyfriend, Rodge Bronson (Zander Hawley), pays the crystal shop woman so the curse can be lifted, and everything can go back to normal.
‘The Rookie’s Latest Episode Proves This Character Never Should’ve Left
We never should have let him go.
‘The Rookie’ Season 8, Episode 6 Sets Up Glasser Possibly Being Freed
Last season, we were introduced to one of the creepiest villains ever on The Rookie. Liam Glasser (Seth Gabel) is a tried-and-true serial killer, but it’s looking possible that he might be a free man soon. Nyla is required to sit for a deposition for the case, but from the beginning, Wesley Evers (Shawn Ashmore) warns Nyla that she’ll have to be perfect in order to win against Glasser’s impressive attorney. Nyla’s words end up getting twisted around, so it sounds like she somehow used intimidation and framing techniques while going after Glasser during the initial investigation. By the end of the deposition, Nyla has seemingly done more harm than good. But that’s not the worst part: Wesley admits that it’s mandatory for him to now report Nyla for her less-than-savory police tactics. This causes a conflict between his wife, Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz), who wants to defend her friend. But Wesley points out that he might lose at trial because of Nyla’s actions.
At a DA campaign event for Wesley, one of the parents of Glasser’s victims shows up, disappointed that he’s not getting justice for his child. He runs at Wesley with a knife, but is quickly disarmed (showing that Wesley has picked up a thing or two from Angela). On the bright side, a video of Wesley’s takedown goes viral, providing his campaign with a boost. However, it’s not like everyone should be celebrating just yet. The fact that Glasser might walk is incredibly terrifying, especially because he’s one of the most brutal villains The Rookie has had. Plus, he has a major bone to pick with Nyla, since she’s the one who got him locked up. I’m seriously concerned about her safety going forward, but this is setting up an intriguing storyline that I’m excited to see play out.
There Are Lots of Valentine’s Day Shenanigans in This Week’s Episode of ‘The Rookie’
For some more light-hearted fare, The Rookie also gives us a few Valentine’s Day storylines this week. The main plot is Chenford stressing about what gifts to give each other. Tim’s sister, Genny (Peyton List), tries to help both of them, but I was a bit confused about why she shows up in this particular episode. Ultimately, through a lot of struggles, Chenford’s presents to each other are special and continue to allow the couple to move forward in a healthy way. We also see some developments with Celina’s love life. Rodge has finally returned from his music tour, but Celina accidentally sends the wrong signals to the TID agent (Jorge Diaz) from last week’s episode. He thinks that Celina asks him out, but is promptly struck down (after trying to kiss her), when Celina explains that she’s got a boyfriend. I thought that maybe this guy was going to boot Rodge out, but it seems like The Rookie is deciding to keep this romance going for now.
In more happy couple news, by the episode’s end, Bailey and Nolan make up after their serious fight. Bailey says that she’s giving up on the DC idea, apologizes, and states that Nolan is the love of her life. But Nolan knows how much the job would mean to her, and says firmly that she should take the job. I’m still really hoping that Bailey takes the offer, since her character makes no sense lately. But we’ll have to see where the couple’s path heads next.

- The episode featured fantastic special effects with that explosion.
- It’s exciting that Glasser’s storyline is being introduced again.
- Bailey’s character is becoming even more ridiculous.
- The scene in the aftermath of the explosion was too dark to see a lot of the action.
