Millie Bobby Brown’s Netflix Mystery Movie Is A Modern Classic

Sherlock Holmes is one of the most popular characters ever made, and for writers and directors, that’s a problem. The character has already been reconceived as a kind of action hero in the 2009 Sherlock Holmes film, and the character has been transported to a modern setting in the highly successful 2010 Sherlock show. Between these projects and nearly 140 years of Sherlock media, it’s difficult to imagine that anyone could ever do anything new with this character.
A few years back, though, Netflix solved this problem in the most unconventional way: by focusing on Sherlock’s sister instead! Enola Holmes (2020) is a relentless comedy caper that stars Superman icon Henry Cavill as Sherlock and Stranger Things icon Millie Bobby Brown as his sister, the titular Enola Holmes. The film will change how you see both of these legendary actors, and it won’t take long before you get caught up in the best mystery comedy (sorry, Knives Out, I said what I said) of modern cinema.
Elementary, My Dear Eleven
The premise of Enola Holmes is that the titular character is a precocious, wildly intelligent girl who wakes up one day to a mystery: her mother has suddenly gone missing. She has the same mystery-solving moxie as her famous brother, and it doesn’t take her very long to seek out the help of Sherlock Holmes. There’s only so much he can do, however, leaving his little sister to use all of her wits and more than a bit of luck to solve a case that may very well affect all of England before everything is said and done.
As you might expect, Enola Holmes is filled with some familiar British actors, including Burn Goreman (best known for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice). If you’re not a huge fan of UK television, though, you’ll be far likelier to recognize big names like Helena Bonham Carter (best known for Fight Club) and Henry Cavill (best known for Man of Steel). But the real star of this particular show is Millie Bobby Brown (best known for Stranger Things), whose charismatic performance as the titular Enola Holmes allows her to let her hair down and show just how funny she can be when she’s not stuck in an ‘80s pastiche horror show.
It’s No Mystery Why Audiences Love Enola Holmes
Enola Holmes is exclusive to Netflix, which is historically very cagey about streaming numbers. However, the film was very clearly a major success, which is why we got Enola Holmes 2 just a couple of years later. Netflix has since confirmed that they are working on Enola Holmes 3, so we may see a third cinematic outing for Sherlock Holmes’ sister quicker than you can say “the game is afoot.”
When Enola Holmes came out, reviewers decided that this fresh take on the Sherlock formula was exactly what they had been looking for. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 91 percent, and critics praised the film for breathing such new life into the Sherlock mythos. They also singled out Millie Bobby Brown for giving an utterly charming performance full of all the grace and humor that she never really gets to display in Stranger Things.
A Modern Twist On A Classic Franchise
During my initial viewing of Enola Holmes, I generally agreed with the critics that this is a fun, lighthearted take on the Sherlock Holmes mythos. It’s less interested in pure spectacle than the Robert Downey Jr. film and far less invested in broody drama than the Benedict Cumberbatch TV show. Instead, this movie invites you to just vibe out in one of the most popular fictional universes ever made, all while reminding you why so many fell in love with Sherlock in the first place.
While it may sound pretty weird on paper, Enola Holmes is also highly effective precisely because it was designed as a comedy caper rather than a serious mystery. In the wrong hands, this would have been a disaster, and it’s easy to imagine the whole thing coming across like a dead-on-arrival Saturday Night Live skit. But director Harry Bradbeer (best known for his work on Killing Eve and Fleabag) perfectly channels the playful energy of the film to create a manic adventure that barely leaves you any time to breathe.
Millie Bobby Brown’s Best Work
Rewatching Enola Holmes crystallized something that I suspected on my first viewing: this is, by far, the best acting Millie Bobby Brown has ever done. She is obviously most famous for Stranger Things, a show where she spends far too much time just mutely making weird faces and trying to look like she’s channeling psychic forces. Enola Holmes allows her to showcase a full range of acting abilities, and I was astonished at how effortlessly funny she could be. Before this, I wasn’t sure if she was a very good actor at all; by the time the credits rolled, though, I was ready for more films to cast her as the lead!

The couple appeared on the latest episode of the podcast, ‘Friends Keep Secrets,’ released on Tuesday (March 3). In seven hours, it racked up nearly 56,000 views and more than 600 comments. They talked about a lil’ bit of everything from Benny and Selena’s wedding to kids and even arm wrestling.
At one point in the podcast chat, as Benny was speaking, Selena leaned over and kissed his toes. He had the foot kicked up and bare, mildly dirty on the bottom. In reaction, he immediately smiled, turned to his co-hosts and seemingly said, “You like that?” Selena tapped his leg and said, “Oh, don’t make it a moment” to which he responded, “Oh no I wasn’t…”

Afterward, one of the co-hosts spoke on seeing PDA between Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco for the first time. Built inside Dick Wolf’s broader FBI universe, the hook is pure binge fuel: a rule-bending CIA case officer is forced to work with a strict FBI agent on covert operations in New York, where every case is bigger than it first looks — terror cells, international plots, and the kind of geopolitics that turns procedural into pressure cooker.
The early chart story, as per FlixPatrol, is simple but clearly speaks that procedurals are loved in the US. The show was on the Paramount+ (Amazon Channels) Top 10 at #9 on February 25, then surged to #3 yesterday and holds #3 today as of February 27. For those who haven’t followed Dick Wolf’s other shows, here’s the key: CIA isn’t built in isolation. It’s designed to sit inside a larger TV ecosystem where characters and cases can overlap, which means the show can pull in familiar agents, recurring villains, or shared mission storylines from other shows.
What this means is that fans might be jumping into CIA Season 1, for example, purely for Tom Ellis and the show’s core hook (CIA operator + FBI partner), with no prerequisite viewing. Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Ben Cleveland has agreed to pay his estranged wife, Kaitlyn Terrell Cleveland, more than half a million dollars to settle their divorce, according to documents obtained by the California Post.
According to the agreement, filed in late January, Ben, 27, has agreed to give Kaitlyn $550,000, with a portion of that money going to pay off a 2024 Land Rover he agreed to give her. In return, Kaitlyn has agreed to cede her rights to some of the real estate that the couple once owned.
The agreement also laid out who has the right to the couples’ belongings, with Ben taking back his gun and thermal scope and retaining their two properties in Georgia. Kaitlyn will receive a golf cart, rugs and pillows, bedroom furniture and kitchen dishes.
Both parties agreed to not make “any disparaging comments about the other party in any form” or “post anything about the other party on any social media platform.”

A suspected Iranian drone strike near the U.S. Consulate in Dubai sparked a raging fire Tuesday night, according to multiple reports … and the aftermath was caught on video.
Footage of the explosion soon began flooding socials today, showing the building light up in an orange glow before erupting in a fireball in the UAE city.
The Dubai Media Office later confirmed that a fire resulting from a drone-related incident near the U.S. consulate had been successfully contained, NBC News reports.
They wrote, “Emergency teams responded immediately. No injuries have been reported.”
The strike comes after an attack on the U.S. Embassy in the Saudi capital of Riyadh last night. There were no reported injuries in that strike either.
As you know … the attacks are in response to the U.S. and Israel carrying out a joint strike on Iran over the weekend which left the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei dead.

According to CNN, Colin Gray was convicted of murder and manslaughter on Tuesday, March 3. Furthermore, the outlet reports that a jury deliberated for about two hours. This, before convicting Colin on a total of 27 charges. This reportedly included “two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of involuntary manslaughter, 18 counts of cruelty to children, and five counts of reckless conduct.”
Per CNN, Colin did not visibly react to the verdict once it was read. Now, he is reportedly facing “10 to 30 years in prison on each murder charge and 1 to 10 years on each manslaughter charge.”
“That man and his son are both responsible for the immense suffering that occurred on September 4. The blood is on their hands,” prosecutor Patricia Brooks reportedly stated during the trial’s closing arguments.
More Details On The Apalachee High School Shooting & Suspect Colt Gray
As The Shade Room previously reported, the shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia occurred in September 2024. At the time, it was revealed that 14-year-old student Colt Gray was responsible for the shooting. Then, a few days later, as Colt faced charges, his dad, Colin Gray, was arrested. And charged with “involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and cruelty to children.” Furthermore, by that time, it was reported that four people lost their lives after Colt opened fire with an AR-15-style rifle, per The Shade Room.
More Details On Colin Gray’s Arrest & Alleged Fault In Apalachee High School Shooting
Furthermore, it was ultimately discovered that Colin Gray purchased the rifle for Colt as a 2023 Christmas present. Additionally, in May of that year, authorities reportedly visited Colin Gray at his home to inform him that his son was making threats against a school, per The Shade Room. During the visit, Colin reportedly told cops that his son was “struggling a bit” in school and getting bullied. But he believed Colt understood the “seriousness of weapons.”
“I never thought that he would even have a thought process of bringing a gun to school or doing any kind of harm to anybody else. Well, on anybody at school,” Colin reportedly said of his son during the trial, per NBC News.
Ultimately, authorities believed Colin exhibited recklessness and “criminal negligence” by purchasing the rifle for his son after being informed of his behavior. Per CNN, during the case, Colin also revealed that Colt sometimes kept the rifle in his bedroom, and other weapons in the home were not always secured.
“Colin Gray knowingly allowed his son, Colt Gray, to possess a gun,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation asserted in September 2024.
At this time, Colin’s sentencing date has not been scheduled. Per CNN, Colt Gray, who is now 16, has pleaded not guilty to 55 felony counts. However, a trial date for him has yet to be scheduled.
“The guilty verdict of Colin Gray, following those of Jennifer and James Crumbley, sends a clear message: gun owners who recklessly arm a child in crisis will be held accountable… This isn’t about punishing every parent; it’s about the life-and-death duty of adults to keep weapons out of the hands of children,” Nick Suplina, the senior vice president of law and policy at Everytown for Gun Safety, reportedly said in a statement, per USA Today.

This uncertainty could be a result of Sheridan’s deal with Paramount nearing conclusion; he has signed a lucrative contract with NBCUniversal that begins in 2029. Sheridan continues to be Paramount’s most successful talent, with numerous hits to his name. He serves as an executive producer on the recently released spin-off Marshals, which delivered predictably terrific results upon release.
Marshals revolves around Luke Grimes‘ character from Yellowstone, which ended abruptly after a five-season run. The show came to a screeching halt following a fallout between Sheridan and star Kevin Costner. Marshals premiered on CBS on March 1 and received the worst reviews of any Yellowstone property. It currently holds a 45% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes; this is lower than the 58% score of Yellowstone‘s premiere season. The flagship series improved as the years passed, with the third season scoring a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Both 1883 and 1923, on the other hand, earned critical acclaim; their Rotten Tomatoes scores are hovering in the high-80s.

‘Marshals’ Overtook a Taylor Sheridan Classic on the Streaming Charts
In his review, Collider’s Michael John Petty praised the show for embracing the network television format and wrote, “Marshals carves out its own identity from the get-go by trimming Kayce’s supporting cast and infusing the drama with new faces that have no ties to his family’s complicated Montana history.” Despite the lukewarm reviews, audiences were clearly interested in checking the new show out. According to FlixPatrol, Marshals took the number two spot on the domestic Paramount+ charts following its debut, behind South Park and ahead of Sheridan’s Landman. The show also features Logan Marshall-Green, Mo Brings Plenty, Gil Birmingham, and Arielle Kebbel, and will air new episodes on Sundays.

During a rare public reunion with her former co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, the actress revealed a decades-old prediction she made long before it became a global reality.
Although Curtis and Radcliffe have not starred in a movie together in years, they have both been on their individual journeys through sobriety, which they have been open about.

How Jamie Lee Curtis Predicted Daniel Radcliffe’s Fame
Curtis and Radcliffe recently reunited for the first time in 25 years, and the “Freaky Friday” star took the opportunity to reveal how she may have unintentionally played a role in Radcliffe’s fame.
While appearing together on the “Today” Show, Curtis recalled their time working on the 2001 film “The Tailor of Panama.”
Given that they were supposed to be living in Panama, a young Radcliffe had to wear a fake tan to cover his pale skin, which meant he wasn’t allowed to join the other kids in the swimming pool.
As the 10-year-old sat by the water, Curtis looked at him and realized he was a ringer for the character on the cover of J.K. Rowling’s books.

“I looked up at him at one point, and I went, ‘Wait, you know, you look like that kid who’s on the cover of that book (Harry Potter),’” she recalled.
Radcliffe, who hadn’t even auditioned for “Harry Potter” at that point, laughed about the moment, admitting his mother was likely terrified she would give him ideas. “I think my mum was probably looking at you like, ‘No, no, no, don’t mention it to him,’” he said.
Curtis further praised Radcliffe’s evolution from a child star to a respected artist. She compared his career trajectory to that of Michelle Williams, noting his commitment to giving his best while at work.
