Only 10 Sci-Fi Shows From the 2000s Can Be Considered True Masterpieces
The 2000s were an exceptional decade for science fiction television, a golden age for the genre much in the same vein as the 1990s. Packed with refreshingly creative ideas, cutting-edge special effects, groundbreaking serialized stories, and a shift toward more “prestige” television, the living room was the place to be for sci-fi fans during the 2000s.
The whole decade had exceptional sci-fi shows both for kids and for grown-ups; for animation fans and for those who prefer live-action sci-fi; for those who love “mystery box”-type shows and for those who love more straightforward space operas. But over the course of those 10 years, the 2000s only produced 10 sci-fi TV shows that can truly be considered masterpieces.
10
‘Phineas and Ferb’ (2007–Present)
Children deserve sci-fi masterpieces, too; and during the 2000s, they never got one better than Phineas and Ferb. It’s one of those Disney Channel shows that are perfect from start to finish, a modern classic that allowed 2000s kids to grow up with a cartoon of the same level of quality as the many sci-fi cartoons their parents had grown up watching.
It’s a show so good, in fact, that you’d be hard-pressed to find an adult sci-fi fan who wouldn’t have a blast with the series’ entire run. The show was recently revived on Disney+ after a decade-long hiatus, and it doesn’t seem to have lost one bit of its spark while it was away. But the two seasons of Phineas and Ferb that aired during the 2000s were where it all got started, and it’s one of the most vibrant, colorful, funny, and heartwarming children’s cartoons from its era you could find.
9
‘Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace’ (2004)
Perfect for those who love when science fiction goes as meta as it can possibly get, Richard Ayoade and Matthew Holness‘ Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is nothing short of a must-see. It’s one of those classic sitcoms that are even better than most modern shows, a horror parody that has grown into more and more of a cult classic as the years have gone by.
The show is a masterclass in parodic and satirical television writing, poking fun at both low-budget sci-fi television and the pretentiousness of those shows’ creators. Brilliantly layered and irresistibly hilarious, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is a genius sci-fi comedy that all those who love the clunkier sci-fi shows of the 1980s should check out.
8
‘Samurai Jack’ (2001–2017)
Genndy Tartakovsky is one of the biggest legends and icons of the world of cartoons, a champion of the animated medium who has made some of the greatest shows it has ever seen. Case in point: Samurai Jack, which blends elements of feudal Japanese lore with bits of retrofuturistic science fiction in a way that has aged like fine wine.
Indeed, it’s one of the best sci-fi shows of the 2000s by a decent margin, the only proof any sci-fi fan should need that cartoons deserve to be placed alongside any live-action show when talking about the genre’s best television outings. Stylish, masterfully genre-bending, visually gorgeous, and with a bloody and more mature final season that feels like it grew up with its audience, it’s undeniably peak 2000s science fiction.
7
‘Fringe’ (2008–2013)
After leaving his showrunning duties relatively early in the run of a certain other masterful sci-fi show from the 2000s, J. J. Abrams co-created Fringe with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. What started as a more episodic spiritual successor to the likes of The X-Files and The Twilight Zone soon started to evolve into entirely its own thing, a more serialized story perfect for parallel universe fans and fringe science enthusiasts.
As it changed over the course of its five-season run, Fringe kept growing more and more into one of the most rewatchable sci-fi shows of all time. It’s perfect for science fiction fans who love both deeply emotional stories and elements of heavy speculative science. It’s easy to see how such a masterful show revolutionized “monster-of-the-week”-type genre shows.
6
‘Life on Mars’ (2006–2007)
Life on Mars is one of those mystery shows that are perfect from start to finish, yet not many fans of sci-fi remember it today. That’s an absolute travesty. This British police procedural is one of the best shows of its kind, as well as one of the most unique. Here, science fiction isn’t the focus. Rather, it’s cleverly used as both a powerful thematic device and a fuel for the show’s psychological mystery.
Those who prefer hard sci-fi that makes ample use of genre elements won’t likely love Life on Mars, but people who like to see the genre’s boundaries pushed to their limits ought to watch it at least once in their lives. Gritty, tense, mysterious, and potently character-driven, it’s proof of why no one does police procedurals quite like British television-makers.
5
‘Lost’ (2004–2010)
With Lost, J. J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and Jeffrey Lieber altogether revolutionized American broadcast television, at least as far as the sci-fi genre went. Along with The X-Files, this masterful (and often quite overhated) show is often credited as a pioneer of the “mystery box” genre, shows following complex storylines entirely based on mysteries, secrets, and jaw-dropping twists.
It’s one of those sci-fi shows that keep you hooked throughout, polarizing final season notwithstanding. With an exceptional ensemble cast, a narrative that brings up two fascinating questions for every answer that it provides, and some of the most exciting creativity of any 2000s sci-fi show, Lost is a vital piece of the pop culture zeitgeist of the decade.
4
‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ (2008–2020)
After the disaster that was the 2008 film of the same name, fans probably didn’t expect much from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Little did they know, after a relatively slow start, the show would soon enough become one of the most widely beloved pieces of Star Wars media in history. Largely responsible for the sudden surge in popularity that George Lucas‘ prequel trilogy has seen since the 2010s, this exceptional anthology series is Star Wars at its best.
Indeed, it’s one of the best Star Wars shows ever, an exceptionally written space opera and military sci-fi series that can be enjoyed by any fan of the galaxy far, far away, regardless of their age. Its visuals have aged well, and Kevin Kiner‘s score is excellent, but what has really kept The Clone Wars timeless is how marvelously it expands on the beloved lore of the Star Wars prequel era.
The second-ever animated adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa‘s Fullmetal Alchemist manga series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood also happens to be not just the best sci-fi anime series of the 2000s, but also the highest-rated sci-fi show of the decade on IMDb. If that’s not a sign that it’s one of the best anime series of all time, what could possibly be?
It’s hard to know where to even begin singing this masterful show’s praises. The visuals are phenomenal, and there’s virtually no filler here, which should satisfy any sci-fi television fan. But the real star of the show is the gripping narrative, an airtight and meticulously constructed tale full of powerful philosophical themes, emotionally satisfying moments, and fascinating bits of world-building.
2
‘Firefly’ (2002–2003)
Nowadays, Joss Whedon‘s Firefly is perhaps best-known as one of the most infamous examples of a hugely promising show that was canceled after only one season. It’s always worth looking back at how it developed that reputation, however: It’s one of the best single-season action TV shows in history, a riveting space Western that has aged like fine wine.
For one, the show’s brilliant blend of genres is a delight, creating some of the most entertaining stories that sci-fi television has told at any point during the 21st century. But what really makes Firefly work is not just the legendary ensemble cast, but primarily the endearing characters that they play. This is character-driven science fiction first and foremost, and the result is a deeply human narrative that never loses its spark, even after several rewatches.
1
‘Battlestar Galactica’ (2004–2009)
There is perhaps no sci-fi television masterpiece from the 2000s more important, more iconic, or better-made than Battlestar Galactica. Not every sci-fi show needs a remake, but the outdated 1978 version of Battlestar definitely did, and the result couldn’t have possibly been better than this. 2004’s Battlestar Galactica is one of those sci-fi shows that hold up surprisingly well, a space opera unlike any other in the history of television.
An exceptional cast, masterful character writing, a thematically and politically complex plot, apocalyptic stakes—what’s not to love about the absolute masterpiece that is Battlestar Galactica? Unlike many of its space opera peers, Battlestar is all about gritty storylines and emotionally raw character moments, a show that was able to masterfully tap into the fears and anxieties of the post-9/11 21st century. It’s a product of its time, but it has gotten nothing but better with age.

Khloe Kardashian Celebrates Tristan Thompson’s Brother’s Birthday
Khloé Kardashian has a touching birthday message for ex Tristan Thompson‘s younger brother, Amari.
“Happy Birthday sweet Amari ♥️,” the Kardashians star, 42, wrote via Instagram on Monday, July 27, alongside several throwback photos. “Some people change the world with their words. You change it simply by being you. Your heart, your spirit, and your light say everything that words never could.”
Kardashian’s post included multiple snaps of her, Amari and Thompson over the years from countless family gatherings. (Kardashian and Thompson, 34, dated on-and-off from 2016 to 2021 and share daughter True and son Tatum.)
“You are one of God’s gentlest reminders of what truly matters. Everyone who knows you is better because of you,” she continued. “Thank you for reminding us every single day how we should be so completely grateful for the smallest of things and what unconditional love, joy, grace, resilience, and gratitude truly look like. We love you more than you’ll ever know. Happy 20th Birthday, our sweet angel.”
While Kardashian and Thompson called it quits for good in 2021, the reality star has remained close with the basketball player and his younger brother. Amari is nonverbal and suffers from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and epilepsy.
Kardashian’s mom, Kris Jenner, also gave Amari a sweet shout-out on his birthday.
“Happy 20th birthday to our sweet angel boy, Amari!🤍 You are such a blessing to our family and bring so much love, joy, and light into our lives,” Jenner, 70, wrote via Instagram. “Your sweet spirit reminds us every day what really matters. I am so grateful for all of the special moments we share together and I love you so much. Happy Birthday Amari. 🤍🎂 Lovey Xo.”
Following the death of their mother in 2023, Thompson was granted legal guardianship of his sibling. During that time, Kardashian stepped in to serve as a helping hand to her ex as he balanced taking care of Amari full-time alongside his basketball career. (Thompson, who has played for multiple NBA teams, retired in 2025 after a final stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who drafted him back in 2011.)
“Tristan’s mom passed away a few years ago, we — me, Tristan, my whole family — took Amari back with us to the [United] States,” Kardashian said on a July 2025 episode of her eponymous podcast. “Tristan is in the NBA and he is in a different state, literally, every other day or every few days, and it’s just not conducive for Amari to be on that many planes.”
Kardashian added that she has a lot of love for Amari and considers him to be part of her family.
“California weather is so good for Amari, and I just love having Amari be a part of my family,” she explained, noting that she also employs two caretakers to help her. “We just want to provide Amari with the best, most beautiful life that we know how. And he deserves that.”

John Cena Talks Up His Two Hair Transplants
John Cena found a solution to bring that hairline back, and he will not stop talking about it!
The WWE icon has gone to really great lengths to proffer lasting solutions to his hair loss, with each of his two surgeries taking about 20 hours, but he has no reservations about this medical breakthrough.
John Cena earlier disclosed that he was pushed to finally do something about his bald spot because his fans, who watched him take over the world in wrestling rings, would not stop bullying him about it.

The actor got candid with PEOPLE at the San Diego Comic Con on July 25 about the latest cosmetic adventure he has embarked on. After going on two trips to the surgery room for hair transplants, Cena declared that he feels really great amid everything.
He stated that the grand objective behind the procedures is to make sure he gets more hair, and his doctor, Ken Anderson, is right on top of that situation. Cena revealed that the results that followed the first procedure impressed him so much that he returned to the Anderson Center for Hair in Georgia 15 months later for a follow-up.
There, he communicated his observation about the progress, and his doctor advised him to consider a clean shave so they could keep the follicles. By shaving his head, Anderson will be able to plant more hair follicles.
“My first operation was 13 and a half hours. The second one was eight hours. And I’m rocking this hair thing with the promise that he’s working. I have full trust and faith in him with this process,” he added.
The Former WWE Champion Has One Regret About His Hair Restoration Journey

Speaking on the process that led him to this point, the retired wrestler declared that he initially hesitated because of the stigma that often came with cosmetic procedures.
As shared by The Blast, Cena noted that if there were not so much shame around it, he would have gone in for a hair transplant a decade ago. He now realizes it is not a complicated surgery; it just involves taking hair from one part to fill the bald spot.
The actor continued that he went in for the surgery in 2024, but he remained bald for about four months after that, and the fans who would not stop spotlighting his baldness did not make that waiting period any pleasant.
Cena currently maintains a strict scalp health routine involving red light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, and specialized shampoos as part of his hair care.
John Cena Revealed The Unexpected Reason He Finally Got a Hair Transplant

Talk about tough love, Cena and his fans strangely shared that over his hair journey. The actor gave credit to his wrestling and acting admirers who relentlessly had the most to say about his thinning hair with endless chants that ultimately pushed him to take action.
The WWE legend revealed that he initially tried to block out the noise by ignoring the comments, but seeing fans repeatedly call attention to the thinning area on his scalp made him reconsider.
Rather than taking offense, the wrestler began researching hair and scalp health, leading him to consider a hair transplant as the most viable option.
Describing the comments from his fans, the movie star compared them to the kind of honesty expected from a close friend, where they spot something embarrassing so the other party can fix it.
The 49-Year-Old Thanked His Critics For Turning His Pain Into Motivation

On “The Pat McAfee Show” during the WWE World Fan Experience in Las Vegas in 2025, The Blast shared that Cena sarcastically appreciated his critics for setting him on the path to restoration and relief. He also reminded his fans that his hair loss was genetic and beyond his control, adding that it has been a difficult process.
Cena emphasized that for newer hair to grow, the old hair must shed, but people could have addressed his appearance in kinder ways instead of turning it into a spectacle during matches.
When the actor is not urging critics to pay less attention to his looks, he is making kids’ wishes come true via the Make-A-Wish Foundation, where he beat his previous record of 500 wishes in 2022.
From granting wishes revolving around wrestling tickets, championship belts, high fives, and hospital visits to fans, Cena continues to set high trends. Cena joined the organization in 2004, after it struck a cord in his heart to help the foundation grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illness.
John Cena Is Make-A-Wish Most Requested Celebrity By Children

The WWE star had confessed to ESPN in 2022 after crossing his milestone mark that it gladdened his heart to drop whatever he was doing to make the dream of one or many kids come true whenever the situation required it.
As at that year, the star had become the most sought-after celebrity at the foundation, while existing in a league of his own by passing the 650th mark, although no celebrity has crossed the 200 wishes mark. The wrestler became a part of the organization just two years after his WWE debut, following in the footsteps of wrestlers like Hulk Hogan who began the tradition in the early 1980s.
Cena had stated in previous interviews that his main objective for joining the foundation was to give children a lasting experience because he does not want them and their families to feel like they are up against something monumental.
The whole world is itching to see John Cena’s transformation when it is done!

Kyla Pratt Talks ‘Unspoken Bond’ With Raven-Symoné
Kyla Pratt, known for her role on Disney’s “The Proud Family,” recently opened up about her “unspoken bond” with Raven-Symoné. During an interview, Pratt reflected on her iconic character, Penny Proud, and recalled starring alongside Symoné and Eddie Murphy in the late-’90s film “Dr. Dolittle.” Elsewhere in the interview, Pratt also shared how proud she is of Symoné, praising the impact the now-40-year-old has had on the network.

While speaking with PEOPLE, Pratt wasted no time praising Symoné for her impact on the Disney Channel, mentioning her steady presence on the network for the last two decades.
“When I think of Disney, I think of Raven-Symoné,” Pratt said. “I was fortunate enough to be her sister in Dr. Dolittle, and, for me, Raven was the face of Disney.”
While Pratt voiced Penny Proud in “The Proud Family” and “The Proud Family Movie,” Symoné appeared in “That’s So Raven,” “The Cheetah Girls,” and the 2017 spin-off, “Raven’s Home.” In addition, Symoné appeared in several other Disney Channel series and movies, including “Hannah Montana” and “KC Undercover.”
Kyla Pratt Reveals Why It Was Important To See Raven-Symoné Leading Her Own Show

While Pratt had a lead role in her own Disney Channel series, the “One on One” actress pointed to the impact Symoné had on an entire community of viewers.
“For me, seeing a young black woman navigate that space and become a director and producer and writer,” Pratt said. “I would say we have an unspoken bond, so whenever I see her or see her doing anything, I support it and I’m just happy that she’s living how she’s living.”
Kyla Pratt Says ‘Black Representation’ Is Everything
Pratt and Symoné weren’t the only young, Black actresses leading sitcoms for major networks. Keke Palmer starred in Nickelodeon’s “True Jackson, VP,” and Zendaya appeared in “Shake It Up” and “KC Undercover.”
Pratt then explained why it’s important to see women like her on the small and big screen. “I think Black representation is everything. I’m a strong advocate for mental health, and I believe once you’re able to see yourself, you’re able to feel not alone,” she said.
She continued, “And a lot of times, our stories weren’t meant to be told. Back in the day, it was like, ‘Hey, blonde hair, blue eyes, that’s what’s beautiful.’ And if that’s all you saw, of course you’re going to compare yourself to that.”
Pratt said representation in film and television is more meaningful than many people realize, especially for children growing up. “It’s enough to make you feel like, OK, I’m not alone in this world,” she said.
Pratt Talks About The Nostalgia Of Voicing Penny Proud
During a previous interview with PEOPLE, Pratt reflected on voicing Penny Proud and the Disney+ revival series, “Louder and Prouder.” She expressed her gratitude for the show’s return and reflected on what it has meant to have the beloved character in her life for the past 20 years.
“The vibe when I am stepping into the booth to be Penny Proud is always amazing. It’s complete nostalgia,” she said. “I was talking to my kids earlier this week about getting older and how you can still stay a kid inside, and I’ve had the pleasure of being able to do that.”
Pratt said that being able to still portray Penny Proud allows her to “connect” to her younger self. “So for me, every time I step into the booth it just feels amazing, and then you realize these things don’t last forever, you take it in a little bit more,” she said.
Symoné Is Headed Back To Disney With A Fourth Movie In This Iconic Franchise

And speaking of revivals, Symoné is making a Disney comeback in 2027 when she appears alongside Adrienne Bailon in the fourth “Cheetah Girls” movie dubbed “Next Gen.”
According to The Blast, the movie will follow Symoné and Bailon’s characters traveling to Africa to help save a wildlife sanctuary with a younger group of aspiring singers.
“The Cheetah Girls has always been about friendship, music, and empowering young people to use their voice,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family. “That spirit connected deeply with a generation of fans, and it still resonates today. Bringing this dynamic new group of young stars to the franchise allows us to continue that legacy for a new era of kids and families.”

Tom Cruise’s Daughter Adopts New Identity To Sever Ties With Him
Tom Cruise has been dealt a major blow after it was confirmed that his daughter, Suri Cruise, has officially dropped his last name in an effort to sever ties with her estranged father.
The pair have had a strained relationship over the years since the actor’s split from her mother Katie Holmes, with insiders previously revealing that Scientology played a role in the estrangement.
Now, Suri has revealed a new identity, reportedly dropping Cruise as her last name in favor of her mother’s middle name.

As reported by Page Six, Suri Cruise has officially cut the cord with her movie star dad, Tom Cruise.
Tom and his ex-wife, Katie Holmes’ 20-year-old daughter legally ditched the actor’s famous last name, swapping it for Suri Noelle.
Public data reveals that the Carnegie Mellon University student updated her information when she registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, back in October 2024 during her freshman year.
By signing up under the moniker Suri Noelle, she confirmed that the name change is now her official, legal identity.
According to the news outlet, Pennsylvania courts confirmed that all residents who register to vote must use their legal name, confirming that Suri no longer bears Cruise and instead Noelle.
Suri Noelle Has Been Using Her New Name Publicly For A While Now

No official name-change petition was submitted in Allegheny County, per Page Six, suggesting that Suri’s legal rebrand was likely executed in New York prior to her move.
The college student previously resided in New York with Holmes, where court systems routinely shield name-change filings from public view by automatically sealing them.
Although the precise timeline of when Suri Noelle became her government-recognized name is up in the air, she has been operating under the alias publicly for quite some time.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted the change on the casting sheet for her high school show, “The Addams Family: A New Musical,” which saw her star in the leading role of Morticia.
In another incident, reports revealed that her credit in the playbill for the stage show “Head Over Heels” abandoned her father’s famous last name entirely, listing her strictly as Suri Noelle.
Then, in 2024, when it came time to cross the stage at her LaGuardia High School graduation, the official event program also showcased her new name rather than her birth surname.
Tom Cruise’s Daughter’s New Name Pays Homage To Her Mother Katie Holmes

Although Suri did not take on her mother’s last name, Holmes, her new identity still seems to be in tribute to the actress.
Holmes, who has acted as her primary caregiver for the vast majority of her life, shares the middle name “Noelle.”
Sources confirmed that when the name-drop first made waves, the decision was entirely about honoring the woman who raised her.
“She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name,” a source told Page Six back in 2024, noting that Suri “wants her own identity” and does not want to be connected to her estranged father, Tom Cruise.
Katie Holmes Spoke About Wanting To Protect Her Daughter From The Public Eye

Holmes, for her part, has spoken candidly about protecting her daughter from negative media coverage, admitting that Suri had been overly exposed to the spotlight since she was a child.
In a 2023 interview with Glamour, she said, “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her.”
Holmes added, “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her
“I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent,” she told the publication. “She’s an incredible person.”
Tom Cruise’s Scientology Religion Reportedly Strained His Relationship With Suri

Cruise and Holmes’ 2012 divorce is said to have impacted the actor’s relationship with his daughter, Suri. However, his religious affiliation seems to have made matters even worse.
Insiders shared that Holmes, a devout Catholic, made it her primary mission during the split to shield her daughter from the Church of Scientology, fearing the controversial religion would do serious damage to her upbringing.
Once the divorce stripped the actor of any say in his daughter’s faith, he reportedly chose to sever ties completely. The religion allegedly demands that members cut off any relatives who don’t buy into their belief system.
Commenting on the estrangement, a Scientology expert pointed out that the Hollywood heavy hitter has consistently shown where his true allegiance lies.
“Tom has proven over and over again that his No. 1 loyalty is to [his religion] and David Miscavige,” the expert told In Touch in 2024, referencing the church’s controversial top leader.
The insider then added that a decade of radio silence from the actor made it “more and more obvious” that he had “cut” Suri out of his life completely, ultimately suggesting that the young adult “may be better off for it.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar Flaunts Her Abs in Rare Bikini Photos
Sarah Michelle Gellar is shamelessly soaking up the sun in a recent getaway to Saint-Tropez.
“Calanques, Cassis and @circuitpaulricard,” the actress, 49, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, July 25.
Gellar’s post included a photo of the actress posing on a boat in the South of France while wearing a white swimsuit coverup. Her post included multiple shots of the I Know What You Did Last Summer star enjoying the water while rocking three different bathing suits.
In one snap, Gellar donned a brown bikini with a halter top. She sat on the edge of the boat enjoying the view as she posed for the camera.
An additional photo showed Gellar in a navy floral bikini top with matching swim skirt for the bottom. Gellar flaunted her abs as she posed for the pic.
For a third look, Gellar rocked a mismatched bikini — which featured the brown halter top and floral navy bottoms that she previously wore — before jumping into the water.
Fans took to the comments section to gush over how stunning and happy Gellar looked while on vacation.
“Europe looks fab on you SMG!!!! 👏,” one user wrote, while another replied, “She is the sunshine during the sunset.”
Gellar’s Ready or Not 2: Here I Come costar Kathryn Newton replied to the post with multiple heart-eyes emojis.
Two days later, Gellar enjoyed some time on land as she took in the European countryside while on horseback.
“Is French Cowgirl Aesthetic a thing?!?” she wrote via Instagram on Monday, July 27, alongside a selfie of her in a brown sunhat and white tank top.
Earlier this year, Gellar opened up about why she decided to take a break from acting during the 2010s.
“I had my second child. I was on The Crazy Ones. Robin [Williams] passed away, and then I just … I think my world shifted. It was this moment of, ‘Holy s***, things change in a moment.’ For the first time I wanted a break, and I had never wanted a break before,” she said in a March interview with People. “I was so defined by my work and my career that that was the propeller. And I’m so glad that I did, because it’s time I can never get back with my kids.”
Gellar shares daughter Charlotte, 16, and son Rocky, 13, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr.

DWTS Rehearsal Horror Ends Contestant’s Dream Overnight
No one expected a routine rehearsal to end with flashing lights and an ambulance. However, that’s exactly what happened on the latest episode of “DWTS: The Next Pro,” when a split-second mistake during practice left one contestant with a serious facial injury.
The frightening accident not only brought rehearsals to an abrupt stop, but also ended Natalie Jolley’s run in the competition before she had the chance to perform in the week’s showcase.
The latest challenge was supposed to test how well the remaining ten dancers could perform as one team under the guidance of guest judge Britt Stewart.
Instead, rehearsals came to a sudden halt when Jolley was accidentally struck in the face during the routine. The 20-year-old immediately stepped away from the group, holding her face as she cried in pain while Stewart and the other contestants rushed toward her.
After checking on the injured dancer, Stewart learned Jolley was feeling dizzy, and concern only grew when the extent of the injury became visible.
“It’s like a black eye,” fellow contestant Adele Zaikman observed per PEOPLE. Medical staff quickly took over, and Jolley later told them that “it hurts really bad” and that she couldn’t breathe through her nose.
An ambulance was called to the studio, where production staff tried to reassure her. “They’re going to give you some pain relief, okay? Just try to slow your breathing down,” one crew member said.
The injury ultimately forced Jolley to withdraw from the competition, ending her “DWTS: Next Pro” journey before she even performed.
‘DWTS: Next Pro’ Accident Leaves Stephani Sosa Fighting Back Tears
As Jolley received medical attention, Stephani Sosa struggled with the realization that she had accidentally caused the injury.
The dancer became emotional while reflecting on the frightening moment, explaining that everything happened so quickly that she barely understood what had gone wrong.
“I don’t know what happened. The dance was moving so quickly, and Natalie got hit in the face,” Sosa said. Clearly blaming herself, she continued, “I just hate being the one that caused that. Like, I just feel horrible. I know she’s worked really hard to be here, and I hope she’s okay.”
Unable to hold back her emotions, Sosa paused before adding, “Sorry, I just care.” Stewart also reflected on how dangerous group choreography can become when multiple dancers are moving at full speed in close quarters.
“I’m really feeling for Natalie,” the pro dancer said, adding, “She’s part of this group challenge. This incident really showcases why dancing as a unit, being aware of your space, is so important when you’re doing group dance work.”
‘DWTS: Next Pro’ Competitors Face Another Unexpected Twist
Jolley’s departure wasn’t the last surprise awaiting the remaining contestants.
When rehearsals resumed the following day, many expected extra time to adjust to the missing teammate. Instead, Stewart informed the dancers they would head straight into a performance for judges Mark and Shirley Ballas with little opportunity to regroup.
The rushed routine left the competitors feeling uneasy, and Stewart admitted it wasn’t the strongest showing from the group.
After watching the performance, the judges identified Tristen Sanders and Nina Mayster as the weakest dancers in the challenge, leaving both visibly emotional as they awaited their fate.
Rather than sending either contestant home, however, the judges revealed an unexpected reward.
Instead of elimination, Sanders and Mayster were named team captains for the upcoming showcase, giving them an immediate chance to bounce back after a difficult performance and shifting the focus from disappointment to redemption.
‘DWTS: Next Pro’ Contestant Couldn’t Recover From One Mistake
The ballroom has proven to be as unpredictable as it is demanding. While one contestant’s journey ended because of a rehearsal injury, another saw her fate change after a single mistake under the spotlight.
During the opening episode, commercial dancer Briar Nolet lost her footing while performing a high-energy samba, prompting audible gasps from the judges.
Rather than stopping, Nolet quickly regained her composure and finished the routine, earning praise for her resilience.
“I know you slipped… it’s not about falling; it’s about getting up and carrying on,” Mark told her afterward per PEOPLE.
Despite the encouraging feedback, the mistake proved difficult to overcome. Nolet was ultimately eliminated alongside Jake Monreal in the season’s first double elimination,
Val Chmerkovskiy Says ‘DWTS’ Contestant AJ Pritchard’s Confidence Is A ‘Huge Turn-Off’
The physical demands of “DWTS: Next Pro” haven’t been the only challenge contestants have had to navigate this season.
Away from the rehearsal room, competitors have also faced tough critiques from some of the franchise’s biggest names, including three-time Mirrorball champion Val Chmerkovskiy.
Following Episode 2, the star dancer singled out contestant AJ Pritchard, questioning the former “Strictly Come Dancing” professional’s attitude while recapping the show on the “Stepping on Toes” podcast with Danielle Fishel.
Although Chmerkovskiy acknowledged Pritchard’s impressive résumé, he said the dancer’s confidence sometimes came across as arrogance.
“I wish he just kind of wrapped that arrogance into like a little softer presentation,” he said, reminding listeners that “we’ve all got pedigree.”
Chmerkovskiy added that if Pritchard wanted to earn a coveted pro spot on “DWTS,” he needed to focus on proving himself in the present rather than relying on past accomplishments.
He also criticized the dancer for correcting partner Selena Hamilton’s technique by pushing her hips back with his foot, saying the moment, combined with his overall demeanor, was “a huge turn-off” for viewers.

Below Deck Med’s Luke Exits Early After Soiled Sheets Scandal
Below Deck Mediterranean‘s soiled sheets scandal resulted in a surprise cast exit.
During the Monday, July 27, episode of the hit Bravo series, Luke Brumer told Captain Sandy Yawn that he felt it was time for him to leave Akira One. Sandy commended Luke for stepping aside after his issues with Nathan Gallagher overshadowed their jobs.
Luke didn’t tell the rest of the crew that this was his final charter. Instead, he waited for the tip meeting to confirm he wasn’t going to stick around. Later that day, Luke left the boat but the deck crew had more issues as Nathan attempted to balance his job and life as a father.
Season 11, which premiered in June, featured a franchise first when Luke hooked up with Genevieve Lillie in his shared cabin with Nathan. They moved down to Nathan’s bed and Luke finished in the bosun’s sheets, which he didn’t tell Nathan. Luke also didn’t replace Nathan’s sheets and continued to let his boss sleep in a soiled bed.
“I actually get pissed off the more I think about it. It is so disrespectful,” Nathan said in a July episode about the scandal. “I’m not laughing. Do you want me to go to Captain Sandy and tell her about it?”
Nathan called Luke’s behavior “disrespectful.”

“It’s the fact that Luke hasn’t said anything about this in three days,” Nathan explained.. “He had the opportunity to tell me — and the fact that he hasn’t told me and has gone around the boat and everyone else is talking about it. That’s what’s pissing me off.”
He continued: “It’s f***ing rude because you disrespected me. Now, if you keep up with your job, it’s not gonna end, bro. If you piss me off, the slightest amount, you’ll be [heading out] with your bags packed.”
Captain Sandy was just as frustrated when it was brought to her attention.
“What Luke did, it’s potentially a fireable offense. It’s unprecedented,” she explained. “I’ll make my decision on how to handle this after this charter. But in the meantime — because of the severity of the situation — I need to write this report.”
Sandy’s report ultimately went into Luke’s personal file, with her adding, “It’s official. That’s something other captains will see and I hope Luke takes away from this that he should have consideration for your bunkmate. There’s protocols.”
Below Deck Med airs on Bravo Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
