The fall 2026 TV schedule is overflowing with new and returning shows — but some of your favorite programs are being held until the new year.

CBS announced its schedule in April 2026, and viewers couldn’t help but notice some substantial changes. Ghosts, Matlock and NCIS: Sydney received a shakeup by having their premieres moved to 2027 for midseason. They will join the new show Einstein, which is finally premiering in 2027 as well.

Matlock’s time slot will be given to Elsbeth to allow Cupertino to premiere on the same night. NCIS: Sydney, meanwhile, is moving to midseason as NCIS: Origins — which received a shorter episode order — takes over to pair off with NCIS: New York.

ABC is also declining to bring back every show in the fall. High Potential, The Rookie and Shifting Gears are some of the programs being held back for a later, midseason premiere. Keep scrolling to see the full list — and the reason why there is a wait:

‘The Rookie’

This isn’t the first time The Rookie was held until midseason. Showrunner Alexi Hawley teased the show’s return, sharing at a panel in July 2026, “I think [the huge two-part premiere] is the best of what we do. I just wish everybody didn’t have to wait until January to see it.”

‘High Potential’

Elsewhere on ABC, High Potential had a surprise swap when RJ Decker took over the post-DWTS slot instead. Ari Goldman, who is senior vice president of content strategy and scheduling at ABC, told Deadline in May 2026 that the shift was in an effort to “give viewers a chance to watch these shows with as little interruption as possible across the season.”

‘Will Trent’

Following several onscreen character deaths. Will Trent will be back — but not until 2027.

‘Shifting Gears’

Tim Allen and Kat Dennings‘ hit sitcom is currently filming in preparation for a 2027 return.

‘Ghosts’

While CBS isn’t bringing Ghosts back until midseason, there will still be Halloween and Christmas specials to hold Us over.

We had a talk. Hough, who could have perhaps mixed up Cameron with DWTS season 34 finalist Dylan Efron, continued to share constructive criticism for the Bachelorette alum.

“For me, the frame … we need to expand that,” Hough advised Cameron. “I know you’re a big guy, but you can handle that [and] she can handle that, absolutely. I think mirroring your presence with the technique, the frame, the posture, you’re gonna do fantastic.”

Cameron ultimately received a score of 17 out of 30, and he also earned rave reviews from fellow judges Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.

“Tyler, what’s going on here? I have to say I’m very pleasantly surprised,” Tonioli, 70, noted on Tuesday. “I mean, look at him, he looks like a tank. … In fact, you can move, man. Speaking more about Swift and Kelce’s Ohio mansion, a real estate expert, speaking to Page Six, addressed the alarm system discovered at the property.

“The village is a relatively secluded lakefront property,” realtor Patricia Knight Gary began. “Something may have been set up at that particular home, which is their private estate, but in terms of any additional fencing for the village, I’m not aware of that.”

Knight Gary further noted that there is law enforcement presence in the area already, to ensure the safety of residents; however, their numbers might increase as more celebrities move in.

“It does have a small police force that gauge and patrol the village on a regular basis,” she said. “And then even at the condos [down the street], there is 24-hour security, so I would anticipate that there might be some discussion in terms of increasing that.”

Earlier this week, the BBC reported that the family’s access to publicly funded security will be reviewed now that they have returned to the U.K.

The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC), which oversees security arrangements for the royal family and other high-profile people, will reconsider what, if any, police protection Harry, Meghan and their children may be eligible to receive.

The committee is expected to “assess any risks they face in their new home and the type of trips taken by the couple and their family, such as regular travel routes and school runs,” reported the BBC.

R&B legend Gladys Knight’s son, Shanga Hankerson, has said her younger husband and manager, William McDowell, will “work her until she passes away” as her tour continues.

At 82, the “Midnight Train to Georgia” singer has shown no signs of slowing down despite concerns from fans and those around the tour. One concertgoer even described a recent performance as “tragic,” claiming Knight appeared disoriented.

Meanwhile, McDowell has denied the accusations, while Knight vowed in a statement to complete her remaining tour dates this year before turning her attention to new ventures.

Concerns continue to mount over Gladys Knight’s health at the age of 82, although the singer has not stopped working.

The Empress of Soul has been on The Queens Tour since May and still has four scheduled performances remaining. These include stops in Glenside, Pennsylvania; Portsmouth, Virginia; and Atlantic City in October before the tour wraps up in mid-November in Highland, California.

However, her son, Shanga Hankerson, has alleged that she is a victim of adult abuse. He claims her husband and manager, William McDowell, is forcing her to maintain the schedule even though she is not fully fit for it.

Hankerson expressed fears that the tour itinerary could adversely affect his mother’s health and potentially lead to her death.

“He never intended to stop any tour dates, as you can see for yourself,” he told The Detroit News. “My belief and fear is that he intends to literally try to work her until she passes away. And you can quote me on that.”

Hankerson has been raising concerns for some time and previously revealed that he filed a complaint with authorities in North Carolina over his mother’s care.

In an August interview with PEOPLE, he described Knight’s work schedule as “detrimental” to her health. He also said he believed she was operating on “cruise control,” although she had not explicitly told him that she wanted to stop.

According to the news outlet, Hankerson recounted an incident on New Year’s Day when Knight allegedly didn’t recognize him for about 45 minutes.

During an earlier interview with The Shade Room, he described another incident in which the “That’s What Friends Are For” singer allegedly left the hotel where they were staying and wandered across town.

Hankerson accused McDowell of being “mentally and financially” abusive toward his mother, questioning why “she’s being made to believe that she has to work like this?”

At the time, Knight rejected her son’s claims and said she was “healthy and happy.” She went further, saying the concerns surrounding her health had been “misrepresented” and insisting that she enjoyed being on tour.

“I’m sorry that my health and performances have been misrepresented. I want my fans and those concerned to rest assured I am doing very well for someone who has been on stage for three quarters of a century, hard to believe, right?” she said, per PEOPLE.

“I’m healthy and happy and visiting friends and family these last few months. I’m excited to get back on the road with my sisters and on stage with The Queens Tour. See you soon,” she added.

Her publicist, Laura Herlovich, also shared an update with the news outlet. She said the singer and her team were “greatly saddened by Shanga’s unfounded allegations,” claiming he “has had no substantial contact with her.”

In a statement posted to her Instagram account on Monday, September 14, the “Neither One of Us” singer said she had only a few dates remaining and wanted to complete them.

“After heartfelt discussions with my team, I recognize that no matter how much I love lifting spirits in song, it’s time for the midnight train to make just a few more stops,” the statement read.

She added, “I’m finishing the year strong with my remaining performances. Looking forward to new ventures next year. Again, I am so very grateful for all the love and support over the years.”

Concerns about Knight’s health intensified after her September 5 show in Tulsa, which McDowell had previously identified as a test to see whether she could continue touring.

He told TMZ that if the singer had “a rough night” during the show, he would “pull the plug on her remaining dates.”

However, concertgoer Paul Gregory Richard claimed that the show ended early after Knight struggled during her set.

“It was hard to watch, and we all cheered her on and loved on her just the same,” he wrote on Facebook, adding that “she just could not continue.”

The incident did not prevent Knight from returning to the stage. She performed again at a September 9 concert in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Reviewing that show for The Detroit News, freelance writer Tiffany Judkins acknowledged that “there were moments when her age was apparent.” However, she added that “there were also moments when the voice was undeniable.”

The timeline has been heated with relationship speculation after Gabrielle Alayah, also known as “Gigi,” popped out at ex-boyfriend Kai Cenat’s VIVET show. Her appearance during New York Fashion Week had everyone wanting the tea on whether the former couple had gotten back together.

 Kai Cenat returned to stream on Monday, where he spoke with supporters about his first Fashion Week show and clothing line. As fans began spamming his ex-girlfriend Gigi’s name in the comments, Kai responded while questioning their support for him.

“Y’all keep spamming Gigi. Gigi [is] bro and can’t support gang?” Kai questioned.

Kai then explained that Gigi is part of his support system and expressed gratitude for her always being there. He also seemed to make it clear that her appearance confirmed nothing romantic.

“She is very supportive on everything I do. Also, y’all gotta understand, bro, Gigi was there when I came up with the name, you feel what I’m saying? It don’t confirm nothing or anything like that, chat. Like, genuinely, bro, she is a great supporter, you feel me, bro? Like she was there when I came up with the name. She was there when I was in Italy. Like she just did amazing, you feel me? So I really appreciated her support being there,” he added.

Kai also showed love to his friends and team, explaining that many had no idea what to expect from the show. As viewers continued mentioning Gigi in the chat, Kai eventually addressed where the former couple currently stands with each other.

Kai confirmed they are both single, but explained that anything they decide to do moving forward will remain between them.

“Gigi is, you know, she supports everything I do, and whatever I decide to do, right chat? Right now, Gigi’s single, I’m single. Whatever we decide to do is up — it’s our business. It’s none of y’all business, bro, and I’ve learned that the hard way, you feel what I’m saying? I’ve learned that the hard way. So it’s just like certain things I just would not, you know, I just would not say,” he explained.

Dancing With the Stars returned for season 35 — with a night full of unforgettable performances and a jaw-dropping elimination.

The ballroom competition kicked off Tuesday, September 15, where the male celebrity contestants each danced to a Billboard No. 1 hit from their birth year. While the cast gave it their all, the judges were no-nonsense when it came to handing out scores.

“Our expectations are super high, you’re going to have to earn every single point,” judge Derek Hough warned after Jackson Olson’s Savannah Bananas-themed cha-cha. “Don’t be surprised at where the scores land tonight.”

Olson earned a trio of 5s from Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, while Jimmy Kimmel Live! sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez earned a total score of 10. Tyler Cameron, for his part, saw a dip in his score after Inaba pointed out he slightly lifted pro Sharna Burgess during their tango.

At the end of the night, Conner Leavitt and pro partner Adele Zaikman were eliminated from the competition.
