Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri are set to lead a new AppleTV+ rom-com, Prodigies.
Written and directed by Sharpe of The White Lotus and A Real Pain fame, the seven-part series also boasts Edebiri (The Bear) as an executive producer.
From Sister, the rom-com will explore the universal complexities of long-term relationships through the lens of “a very unique couple”.
“Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe) are two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children,” a plot synopsis reads. “Now in their early 30s, they are starting to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood. Inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship. As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives, the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling — that the tale is over when the heroes get together. In life, surely, that is just the beginning?”
Sharpe also serves as an executive producer, alongside Edebiri, Jane Featherstone (Black Doves), Naomi de Pear (This Is Going to Hurt) and Katie Carpenter (Landscapers) for Sister.
A release date is yet to be confirmed for Prodigies.
British star Sharpe most recently starred in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, where he played tour guide to Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin’s characters as they toured Poland in honor of their late Jewish grandmother. Culkin won the best supporting actor Oscar for his performance in the Searchlight film.
Edebiri is an award-winning actress best known for her roles in Bottoms opposite Rachel Sennott and in the FX series The Bear with Jeremy Allen White.
