Brooks Brothers’ summer sale is on, and they’ve got a lot of cute things, including this 100% supima cotton cardigan with variegated stripes — I’ve shown the black one but there’s also a khaki and red one.

Because it’s clearance, inventory varies by color, but they all have a good amount left. I like that the 100% cotton cardigan is machine washable, and has a bit of banding at the bottom for shape.

The cardigan was $138, but is now marked to $69 at Brooks Brothers. They actually have a number of cardigans in the sale that look great as well as a number of 100% cotton sweateres. I’d also trust them for short sleeved sweaters; this cashmere/wool one looks like a great basic.

Fraughan Sunday is one of Ireland’s oldest yet lesser-known customs, deeply rooted in nature and heritage. Once a day of foraging, community, and even romance, this unique ritual is now being rediscovered in a modern way. With a renewed focus on sustainability and authentic flavours, traditions like Fraughan Sunday are gaining attention again—bringing the past into the present through craft, culture, and taste.

Here’s everything you need to know about this unique Irish tradition:

Celebrated on Sunday, 26th July 2026, Fraughan Sunday (pronounced frockin) marks the beginning of the ancient harvest festival, Lúnasa, when people traditionally went in search of wild fraughans (wild blueberries). “Fraughan” comes from the Irish word for heather, as fraughans like to grow where heather thrives, in acidic soil. They are the ancestor of the modern blueberry and are nutritious, being high in antioxidants and vitamins.

At Glendalough Distillery, the tradition never really stopped. Every summer, the distillery’s full-time forager, Geraldine Kavanagh, heads into the Wicklow Mountains to hand-pick fraughans for use in Glendalough Distillery’s Gin, as their more complex flavour sets them apart from store-bought berries. Geraldine picks entirely by hand, a slower method she prefers because hand-picking naturally drops some berries back onto the mountainside, helping the plants regenerate while leaving plenty of fruit behind for the deer, birds, and other wildlife that rely on them.

Glendalough Distillery Fraughan Berry Collins (Serves 2)

Ingredients

• 20 wild berries (fraughans, wild raspberries, and wild strawberries, if you can find them)
• 2 dashes raspberry or strawberry syrup
• 4 measures Glendalough Distillery Wild Botanical Gin
• 4 teaspoons lemon juice
• Sugar syrup, to taste
• Soda water, to top up
• Garnish: wild berries or fresh mint
  

Method

Divide the berries and raspberry or strawberry syrup between two highball glasses and muddle well. Fill each glass with ice, then add the gin, lemon juice, and sugar syrup, and stir. Top up with soda water and garnish with wild berries or fresh mint.

There have been at least three separate occasions this summer when I have admired something another woman is wearing, and when I ask where she purchased it, she has lowered her voice and whispered, “Walmart.” One of the perks of middle age is that I feel no shame in buying my clothes at the same place I buy my groceries and garden supplies, so I hustled over to my local Wally World to grab this cardigan after seeing it on a friend.

Late July has a funny way of making summer feel like it’s fully arrived and slightly numbered all at once. The days still feel long. Dinner’s still outside. There was just a NYT story about how “zone of genius” is a new popular phrase that seems to be everywhere now. The basic idea: it’s the intersection of what you’re exceptionally good at and what energizes you. Gwyneth Paltrow’s stylist “zone of genius” is the red carpet; for the author of The Big Leap (the first to use the term) it meant that he “cut out work that he performed with mere competence to focus more fully on writing, which he is both good at and loves to do.” Considering our day and age, the headline offered a not so subtle push: Step Into the ‘Zone of Genius’ (Before AI Takes Your Job). One thing in the comments section jumped out at me though — she noted that she has done exercises to “try to suss out what I am good at and like to do.” Which, same… in fact, we’ve even talked about personality tests that can be useful to your career, as well as how to be mindful of which parts of your job you actually like. But it’s been a long time!
