Abigail Walsh, a dog trainer and walker in Affetside, has been nominated for the Animal Star Awards.
The award recognises “outstanding” contributions to animal welfare across the country.
Ms Walsh, has built a reputation for her “compassionate, knowledgeable, and ethical” approach to working with dogs.
Her journey began with an equine mobile livery service, but she soon shifted her focus to dog walking and training.
She now focuses on “force-free, science-based” training methods.
Ms Walsh decided to focus on training after her Border Collie was attacked just six months into her business.
This inspired her to pursue further qualifications in canine behaviour with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers and other force-free training organisations.
She is also a member of the Modern Dog Walkers Association.
Ms Walsh said: “It’s an absolute honour to be nominated for an Animal Star Award.
“I started this journey as a farmers’ daughter with a love of animals.
“I want to give every animal the best possible care.
“To be recognised for that means the world to me.”
Her nomination is seen as a testament to her “dedication, skill, and unwavering belief in kind, effective training methods”.
The awards highlight individuals and businesses making a difference in the lives of animals, from trainers and rescue workers to veterinary professionals and advocates.
The winners will be announced later this year.
