Yesterday evening, Friday, officers stopped the motorist due to their “manner of driving”. 

Police say a roadside drug test found the driver tested positive for cannabis and they were arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of cannabis and for possession of cannabis. 

A spokesperson for Bolton GMP said: “Yesterday evening, officers from the Bolton Special Constabulary team stopped a vehicle due to the manner of driving. After conducting a road side drug wipe test the driver tested positive for cannabis.

“The driver was arrested for driving whilst under the influence of cannabis and also arrested for possession of cannabis. We are committed to keeping the roads of Bolton safe.” 

This came as part of Operation Classify, which is a GMP scheme to reduce death and serious injury on the roads of Bolton. 

According to GMP, the borough saw 71 serious collisions in 2022, with nine fatalities – with the trend continuing into 2023. 

The force said it uses data and works with local communities to identify routes for targeted action.
