The A579 Atherleigh Way has been closed from approximately 3pm with traffic being diverted through the nearby Parsonage Retail Park.
Witnesses reported that emergency services had arrived with the levels of traffic being branded as “chaotic” by some.
A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesperson said: “[It’s] a collision between a male pedestrian and a bus.
“There are road closures in place.”
GMP added they needed to wait for contact from its serious collision investigation unit before commenting further.
The fire and rescue have been contacted for comment.
