After scouring the responses, the pub with the most votes was The Royal in Farnworth.

One local said: “The Royal Farnworth absolutely lovely”.

Another commented: “Royal in farnworth x”.

Others simply commented the name of the pub, which has also received praise on Google Reviews.



The pub has a 4.7 rating from 128 reviews with one customer saying: “Been here loads of times for a Sunday lunch, highly recommended reasonable price, tender beef or lamb, lots of other choices and pleasant happy staff, outside tables available, all in all a lovely day. I’ll be back!”

This person said: “Delicious home cooked food served by friendly staff. It’s a real gem.”

Hulton Arms

Another popular pub among locals is the Hulton Arms with one commenting: “Hulton Arms 100% . Enjoy x”.

On Tripadvisor, the pub has a 3.9 rating from 35 reviews and customers have shared their experiences with one saying: “Its been years since Ive been in the Hulton Arms but thought I would try lunch. Every meal was fantastic and piping hot. Great staff and Manager. Would definitely return again.”

Another commented: “Visited today with dad and sister, we all chose the Sunday lunch of a lamb roast , was absolutely beautiful, we all enjoyed, service was fantastic and will be Visiting again soon xx”.

The Morris Dancers

The Morris Dancers was also highlighted by locals as one of the best pubs to enjoy a Sunday roast in Bolton.

It’s impressed customers on Google Reviews (4.4 rating from 667 reviews) with one commenting: “Excellent Sunday roast with the most succulent lamb I’ve had in a long time.

“Everything on the plate from the veg to the roast potatoes were cooked to perfection and the empty plate testified to that!”.

Another said: “Went for a meal here with a friend and we both had the 3 course Sunday lunch meal. Everything about it was the perfect. I had the salt and pepper chicken starter which was really good, the Sunday roast was the best I have had in a very long time I would go back just for that.

“Pudding was the vanilla cheesecake which was also amazing. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff too. Will definitely be going back.”
