Officers stepped up patrols at known hotspots where youths are causing a nuisance and criminal damage.

Police with the Bolton Neighbourhood Team visited Longsight Park, where several fires have been deliberately started in recent days.

The Bolton News reported on yesterday that The friends of Harwood & Longsight Park hope to repurpose the compound, where the fires have been started “to propagate native plants for the Castlecroft and Bradshaw Brook site of biologic interest including in the park and Upper Bradshaw Valley local nature reserve“.

Police were also called to a hoax call of a fire in Moss Bank Park with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service – before responding to reports of youths on the roof of a derelict pub on Chorley Old Road who are throwing rocks at passing motorists.

Last week police brought eight youths in for questioning over anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Bolton.

Officers say there have been “significant increases” in ASB across the town centres of Bolton and Farnworth.

Sgt Jess Prudence of the Bolton South Neighbourhood Team said at the time: “We are aware that in recent weeks there have been significant increases in ASB across Bolton town centre and Farnworth town centre.

“Through working alongside our partners in the council and local schools, we have identified eight individuals causing disorder, travelling between Farnworth and Bolton to do so. “
