Bolton St Catherine’s Academy implemented its emergency measures with police called this afternoon.
The school has issued a letter reassuring parents following the incident in which someone entered the Breightmet school.
The letter signed by Ryan Mallett, head of the secondary division, at the school, stated: “I am writing to inform you about an invacuation that took place today at Bolton St Catherine’s Academy.

“This was due to an intruder who entered the school building for a short period of time. I want to assure you that the situation was handled swiftly and safely, and all students and staff remained secure throughout.
“At approximately 14:50, staff identified an unauthorised individual enter the school premises.
“Following our established safety procedures, we immediately initiated an invacuation procedure to ensure the safety of everyone in the school.
“During the invacuation, students and staff remained in designated safe locations while staff addressed the situation. All pupils were locked in safely within minutes.
“The police were called whilst the invacuation was in progress, and once police had confirmed that there was no risk to our students both within the building and in the local area, the invacuation was ended.
“We understand that situations like this can be concerning, but I want to reassure you that our staff and students responded excellently, following all safety measures in place. I am incredibly proud of the calm way our staff and students responded.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Officers have responded to reports of an intruder at a school in Breightmet this afternoon.
“The intruder is no longer on the school premises and officers are in the area making inquiries.
“We have received a number of calls from concerned parents/carers after their children have contacted them from inside the school. All staff and children in the school are safe.”
