The smoke is believed to be coming from a large fire which is burning on the moors of Saddleworth which is currently being tackled by as many as 15 fire crews from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service as well as Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Reports of the fire, which started in Marsden and has spread to near Dovestone Reservoir, were received at around 1.30pm.

Residents in Greenfield, Saddleworth have been warned to keep their windows and doors closed.
Now, residents in Bury and Bolton have reported smelling the smoke also.
People as far as Farnworth have reported smelling smoke, with Whitefield, Prestwich, Radcliffe, Ainsworth and Little Lever also being subject to reports.
One woman, who lives in Ainsworth, said: “It’s really strong.
“I wondered what it was and thought a neighbour was burning something, but saw the moors were on fire and social media posts about people in Radcliffe smelling it too.
“I hope they get the fire out soon, it’s awful to see another fire there.”
Some residents have also reported seeing smoke in the air in Radcliffe.

Images from the fire which were shared to social media show thick smoke spreading for miles across Oldham, and residents in the borough have reported the smell as overwhelming.

The fire was recorded as 10km by 5km long, with WYFRS saying: “We currently have 15 crews plus the Command Unit tackling the fire on the moorland.
“Please continue to avoid the area, including around Castleshaw upper reservoir.”
Residents in Rochdale have also made reports of a smell of smoke.
Greater Manchester Police are also in attendance at the fire to assist the fire services.
