Cavanagh, 51, returned to the cobbles to surprise half-sister Eileen in February as Cleaver leaves the ITV show after 25 years.
Speaking about her return at the time, she said: “It is exciting to dust off Julie’s quirky wardrobe again and an absolute joy to step back onto the cobbles. Julie is so much fun, I’ve missed her.”
However, it was revealed Julie has terminal cancer, deciding to originally keep it a secret, but later revealing it to Todd Grimshaw and George Shuttleworth, played by Gareth Pierce and Tony Maudsley.
Julie has since revealed she will not live past summer 2025, and later opened up to heartbroken sister Eileen.

A source told Metro: “Emotions were running high on set as the cast gathered to film Julie’s tragic funeral scenes.
“It’s a devastating, if not anticipated end for the character, who recently revealed her terminal cancer diagnosis.
“As viewers know, the story coincides with Sue Cleaver’s departure, with Eileen starting to contemplate her future in Weatherfield following the death of her sister.
“There was a real sense of this being the start of an end of an era.”
