Just moments after the programme started, fans began to express some complaints about Barney Walsh, the son of fellow presenter and The Chase star Bradley Walsh.

One person rather harshly wrote: “Barney Walsh is as talented a TV presenter as a housebrick and has the personality of an iceberg lettuce. #gladiators.”

Another said: “NO-ONE would miss Barney if he was replaced…”

A third added: “Brad and Barney presenting shows that nepotism is alive and well #Gladiators.”

BBC bosses on the lookout for new Gladiators contestants ahead of series three

This comes after BBC bosses issued a callout for new contestants for the upcoming third series of the reboot of Gladiators.

The broadcaster said: “Gladiators, one of the most exciting and energetic sports entertainment game shows ever is back for a third series.

“We are on the look out for the bravest members of the British public who have the speed and skill to take on our superhuman Gladiators.”

Those thinking they have what it takes to beat the Gladiators can apply to take part in the programme by filling out an online application form on the BBC’s website.

Interested individuals must be over 18 with applications closing on May 30, 2025.

Successful viewers will come up against the likes of Giant, Hammer, Legend, Fury, Fire and Cyclone.

They will also face the Gladiators in iconic events, including Duel, Gauntlet, Crash Course, Powerball or Unleash.
