Motorists faced delays of around 30 minutes after two lanes were called on the M6 near the M61 junction just after 2pm.
The closures affected the M61 southbound between M6 and junction nine of the M65.
Fire extinguished and all lanes are open on the #M61 southbound between #M6 and J9.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 14:10 on the four fire engines from Blackburn, Leyland and Preston attended a large vehicle fire on the M6 between the M6 and M61 Junction.
“Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reel jets and two triple extension ladders to extinguish the fire.”
