Police have since arrested a new suspect in connection with the incident and he remains in custody for questioning.
Police were called to Kentmere Road, Breightmet, at around 7.50pm, Saturday, to reports of a man holding a machete. .
Detective Inspector Lee Shaw, the SIO from Wigan CID, said: “The incident was witnessed by people in the shop, including children who must have been extremely frightened.

He added: “The incident has been captured on CCTV, which shows the suspect swinging a large machete with blatant disregard for various members of the public close to him.
“We believe this was a targeted attack and the two men knew each other, and we have acted swiftly to ensure a dangerous individual is in custody.
“Even though we have someone in custody, this is still an active investigation, and we are appealing for any information or eyewitness accounts of the incident quoting log 2976-050425.
