Plodder Lane was shut today by the borough’s highways department between its junctions with St Helens Road and Smethurst Lane.
The road, which is used as a cut-through from Over Hulton towards Farnworth and Great Lever, is planned to be closed for “approximately” a week, according to the council’s website.
Two potential diversions are in place to avoid the closure, which are for “resurfacing”.

If coming from the St Helens Road end, traffic can continue south along the road to its junction at Four Lane Ends, before turning left onto the A6 Salford Road and following it to the roundabout at Logistics North.
Motorists would then turn left to the M61 junction four roundabout, following it over and up Watergate Lane, which leads to Plodder Lane near to Smethurst Lane.
The other diversion, again starting from the St Helens Road end, takes traffic north and then east along the road, before turning right onto Smethurst Lane, which will take motorists to Plodder Lane.
