» Police and firefighters called to Bradshawgate, Bolton


Officers and firefighters were seen around the vacant building on the corner of Bradshawgate and Great Moor Street just after midday today, Monday.

Police say they had been called at around 2am, with firefighters later sent to around the same area at around 12.30pm.

A passer-by this afternoon, Monday, said: “There were firefighters and police who looked like they were going in, you could see them going up through the side streets.”

He added: “It’s all these empty buildings they’ve got round here.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that in the early hours of Monday, officers in the town centre had been called to a “fight between a group of men”.

They said that no arrests had been made, or injuries were reported.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson has confirmed that they had been called at around 12.10pm.

They said that the fire had been extinguished by the time they arrived but that they used a hose to make sure that the area was fully safe.

A woman in the area appeared to have been affected by smoke inhalation but did not want to seek treatment.

No other injuries or any other damage to nearby buildings have been reported in connection with the afternoon incident. 

An ambulance was also seen in Bradshawgate. 

There have been long-running concerns about the state of empty and derelict buildings in the area around Bradshawgate. 

Members of the public have been urged to always call 999 in the event of an emergency as soon as it is safe to do so.
