The Catholic Schools Inspectorate (CSI), the national body that inspects Catholic schools, awarded St Mary’s RC Primary School in Radcliffe an overall rating of “good”.
Inspectors visited from February 26 to 27 and commended staff for being “impeccable role models” to pupils.
The report said: “Staff wholeheartedly support the mission and speak passionately about their love of the school.
“They are impeccable role models and are highly valued by children and parents alike.
“The highest levels of pastoral care are provided to those who need it most and staff regularly go the extra mile to ensure all needs are met.”
Inspectors noted that religious education lessons at St Mary’s are “highly valued” by the children and that pupils’ behaviour is “exemplary”.
The school is part of St Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Academy Trust which serves Catholic communities within Bury, Bolton, Rochdale, Salford and parts of Wigan and teaches children aged between three and 11.
The report added that St Mary’s is a “joyful worshipping community” and that praising God through prayer forms “the bedrock of the school”.
It said: “The use of scripture has become a strength; the word of God is prominent, it is shared with confidence and explored with curiosity.
“Children benefit from attending Mass weekly, undertaking roles, and singing with enthusiasm within the heart of the stunning church.”
Inspectors did say that in some of the lessons they saw, opportunities to “use questioning to challenge children to think more deeply and theologically were missed”.
One of the three areas assessed at the Belgrave Street school was deemed “outstanding” while the other two received “good” outcomes.

“The report affirms that our mission is not just words but a lived reality, where every child is loved, valued, and encouraged to grow in faith. Inspectors highlighted the dedication of our staff, the deep sense of belonging within our school family, and the way children embrace their role as missionary disciples.
“Our strong partnership with parents and parish was also praised, reflecting the joyful and faith-filled community we cherish.
“This outcome is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our children, staff, and wider community.
“We remain steadfast in our mission, ensuring that St Mary’s continues to be a place where faith, learning, and love flourish together.”
