Nathan Jones’ sole focus now is ensuring his Charlton Athletic side are “right at it” for the League One play-offs.
The Addicks bring the curtain down on their 46-game season with a home game against Burton Albion on Saturday.
Charlton’s 3-0 loss at Wrexham last weekend killed off their top two hopes and also sealed the hosts’ promotion to the Championship.
The South Londoners can finish as high as fourth in the table but would stay in their current fifth place if the two clubs above them – Stockport and Wycombe – draw as they are pitted against each other.
“What I have to do now is prepare the team, and the squad, so that we can have a successful play-off campaign,” said Jones.
“So whatever I do at the weekend will be geared towards the team. The decisions I make, this is where you earn your money as a manager. I have to prepare a squad to be right at in for the play-off games. Whether that means at the weekend we go full strength or unprecedented changes, whatever that is, I have to prepare a team for the play-offs.
“With the greatest of respect we have not achieved anything yet. We have made really good progress. We always said we needed time.
“What we want to do now is achieve something.
“All we can is try to win the game. We want to try and win the game and finish as high as we can, so you can see the progress from 16th to fourth, fifth or third. That is all we concentrate on.
“I wouldn’t want us to go into it off the back of two defeats. We want to take a little bit of momentum in.”
