Whether you planned to be at home and forgot or were out in the garden and didn’t hear the doorbell, missing a parcel can be inconvenient and frustrating.

To help you out, we’ve rounded up Royal Mail’s advice on redelivery.

Will Royal Mail redeliver a parcel if I miss it?

Royal Mail explains that if a parcel can’t be pushed through a letter box or it needs to be signed for, its staff will attempt to redeliver it on the next working day.

If your parcel still can’t be posted on the next working day, you’ll receive a ‘Something for you’ card through your letter box and your parcel will be taken back to the Customer Service Point.

You’ll then have the option to collect it or arrange a redelivery slot for a time that suits you.

A redelivery can be scheduled so the parcel arrives at your address or at another address in your postcode area, like a neighbour’s house. You can also get it redelivered to your local Post Office branch.

What happens if my parcel can’t be redelivered?

If the redelivery isn’t successful, you have a few options as Royal Mail explains: “If a redelivery is unsuccessful, the postie will leave another Something for You card stating your options.

“You can choose to organise another redelivery or you can collect your item from your local Customer Service Point from the following working day.

“If the item remains undelivered and we receive no instruction from you, the item will be stored for up to 18 days (21 days where customs fees are due), and if not collected or redelivered it will be returned to the sender. This is the existing Return to Sender process.”
