Everything you need to know about the new foldable iPhone

  • Apple is set to launch its first foldable phone after years of speculation as the tech giant follows in the footsteps of its competitors including Samsung, Google and Motorola.
  • While a name has not been confirmed, American technology journalist Mark Gurman claims the product is called the ‘iPhone Duo’, going against previous reports that it would be known as the ‘iPhone Ultra’.
  • The foldable iPhone launch is expected to take place today on Wednesday, September 9 during Apple’s fall event. It will go on sale ‘as early as October’ according to WiFi Planet, after the iPhone 18 is released this month.
  • The model is the first iPhone to have an inner and outer display, meaning two panels, two usage models and two devices in one pocket.
  • Mark Gurman reports the iPhone Duo will begin at $1,999 (£1,474) which roughly equates to the price of two iPhones. However, figures could range up to $2,500 (£1,844) as no set price is confirmed.
  • It’s speculated the phone will come in two colours: either white or dark blue with a two colour launch line-up being fairly normal for a first-generation Apple product.
  • Apple’s fall event is set to kick off at 6pm in the UK and will be hosted by Apple CEO John Ternus. It can be watched live at apple.com or on the Apple TV app.
