Aries

March 21 to April 20

Sometimes when people are passionate, it comes from a really good place. Sometimes, there can be an agenda. Today, as Venus meshes with the powerbroker of the zodiac, Pluto, someone’s friendly words might be a completely genuine overture. So, if you do find this person intriguing, stay open to what they may offer financially or romantically, just not too open.

We live in cynical times, but we frequently see how people will do their best to help others, which can be heartwarming. In other words, there doesn’t always need to be an agenda. With your ruler gliding through the most diplomatic part of your chart, your knack of connecting well with people is certainly being given a boost but stay mindful not everyone will trust it.

Gemini

May 22 to June 21

Someone may reach out for some help. You may be more than happy to oblige. However, today’s influences suggest a delicate balance between doing a good deed and feeling that you may be taken for granted. There is not a golden celestial rule that will apply to every situation, so you will need to weigh things up as they unfold but be a little guarded at least.

Cancer

June 22 to July 23

If you are drawn to someone just now, or in a close relationship, the desire to get closer can be very strong. The planetary mystique being created is very potent, difficult to ignore, and could lead to some intimate bliss. However, if an ongoing involvement has intense issues around control, power, or leverage, you may find yourself caught in a push-and-pull.

Leo

July 24 to August 23

With the North Node and the influential Pluto in your sector of relating, your connections with others, of all types, take on a deeper meaning. There can be people who seem to tail out of your situation, or you can have profound thoughts about past ties which didn’t work, but also the potential to meet new players. Wherever you find yourself in this, trust your instincts.

Virgo

August 24 to September 23

Your words can land powerfully in the weeks ahead. It may even be the tone you use as much as what you say that someone can find particularly engaging. If you enjoy writing or recording videos, current energies can add an extra dimension to your ideas. Equally, if you say something in a more throwaway manner, someone may take you literally, Virgo.

Libra

September 24 to October 23

You might find yourself tempted by a luxury today. And whatever lush treat fits your budget can be just the thing. However, if you are tempted to be extravagant and spoil someone you fancy, to impress them, it might not quite work as you hope. That’s not to say it can’t be appreciated; after all, flattery can be lovely but just keep a little bit of yourself back.

Scorpio

October 24 to November 22

An intriguing planetary match-up occurs today between the alluring Venus in your sign and your modern ruler Pluto, in the detached Aquarius. If you would like to meet someone special, this can both draw someone to you and make you pause before deciding to meet. Pluto is arousing potential vulnerability; Venus the desire for a new beginning.

November 23 to December 21

If you are unsure about a friendship or a relationship, today could prompt you to do some deep thinking about what to do. For example, your beliefs and theirs might not quite align, and this can make you feel unsure. Equally, if you really feel that this is the end point, your dilemma may come most of all on how you handle this with them. Discretion may be best.

Capricorn

December 22 to January 21

A friend may look to enthuse you about a business idea, and it could be very perceptive. The planet of money is in a shrewd location, but one where passions can be aroused. Pluto, the planet of transformation, is angling toward this, upping the ante and intensity. Whether you think it is a great idea or not, give yourself some space to draw your own conclusions.

Aquarius

January 22 to February 19

If you got offered a new job or a financial incentive this week, that’s fabulous, and all the best, if so. However, if someone is offering you a potential role that really does appeal, carefully appraise the motive. Then again, if the charm is laid on to soften a sideways move or worse, stay cool, stay detached, but also don’t be soft-talked, Aquarius.

February 20 to March 20

Venus in Scorpio is complex. And she is going to be there for a long time this year due to a retrograde, the first in the sign for eight years. Prepare for a period of being a truth seeker around all sorts of connections, but also a desire to liberate yourself from ones that have run their course. What you can do is develop a strong desire for escapism and travel.

Emmy Awards: Welsh actor Matthew Rhys makes history with double win

Published

on

Matthew Rhys, winner of the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Award for "Widow's Bay" and the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Award for "The Beast in Me" poses in the press room during the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards at Peacock Theater on September 14, 2026 in Los Angeles, California

Elsewhere, Jean Smart won best comedy actress for her role in the fifth and final series Hacks.

It is the fifth Emmy she has won for the Hollywood satire. “What a ride this has been,” Smart reflected, and joked the audience only gave her a standing ovation “because I’m old”.

It was Smart’s eighth Emmy win in total, and The Diplomat’s Allison Janney also picked up the eighth Emmy of her career, this time triumphing in the category for best supporting actress in a drama series.

Smart and Janney have both now equalled the record for the most acting wins ever, shared with Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Despite her past success, Janney was a surprise winner on Monday and said she was “genuinely shocked” to see off competition from four stars of hospital drama The Pitt, among others.

Meanwhile, Rhea Seehorn won the first Emmy of her career for best lead actress in a drama series for Pluribus, the Apple TV show about a woman who discovers almost everyone else in the world has been taken over by a mysterious mind virus.

Emmys 2026: Matthew Rhys makes history as Widow’s Bay sweeps awards

Emmys 2026: Matthew Rhys makes history as Widow’s Bay sweeps awards

Well, at least Matthew Rhys had a good night. The 51-year-old Welsh star became the first person in Emmys history to win two acting awards in different leading categories on the same night. His bravura performance as a psychopathic real estate magnate in The Beast in Me and his hilarious turn as the put-upon mayor in Widow’s Bay had very little in common, other than showcasing his remarkable range and the subtlety of his performances. Anyone who’s seen The Americans will know that Rhys could already make a credible case for being the finest actor working today. Now he has the silverware to back it up.

Rhys’ twin triumphs, accompanied by snatches of celebratory Welsh, were high points in an awards ceremony that too often felt flat and uninspiring. Host Mariska Hargitay just about got away with kicking off proceedings with an extravagant cover of Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n Roll,” reworked as “I love TV screens,” but each subsequent musical interlude was harder to stomach.

Hargitay even recruited her fellow New York Knicks fanatic Taylor Swift for a pre-taped sketch that riffed, as did too many of her jokes, on her 27-year stint on Law & Order: SVU. Strangely, her laugh-free skit opposite Swift was pretty much the only time all night she didn’t burst into song.

Hargitay always seemed like a strange fit for a job more suited to a stand-up comedian, so perhaps it’s unfair to lay too much blame for the ceremony’s blandness at her door. When Stephen Colbert, accepting the final Emmy his (late) late night show will ever win for Best Variety Series, pointed out that his former writers had provided the jokes for this year’s awards show it felt more like an indictment than an endorsement. Whose idea was it to put a ‘we all come from humble beginnings’ speech in the mouth of Jayne Mansfield’s daughter?

The funniest moment of the show was provided by John Mulaney, recruited to hand Noah Wyle his Best Actor in a Drama trophy for The Pitt, who turned his few minutes on stage into an entertaining digression on what constitutes a “real man” and had many viewers begging him to take over as host in the future.

If Rhys was the night’s biggest winner (other than Mulaney), his victory should also be understood in the context of Widow’s Bay pulling off pretty much a clean sweep of the comedy awards. There were well-earned wins in the supporting categories for Stephen Root and Bury-born Kate O’Flynn, as well as a writing award for the show’s creator Katie Dippold. The Apple TV+ hit is set to begin filming a second season early next year, and could well be set to dominate the Emmys for years to come.

Jean Smart, for one, will be happy the show didn’t have a female lead. A lack of competition from Widow’s Bay allowed the Hacks star to win her fifth consecutive Emmys for her outstanding work as stand-up comedian Deborah Vance. Not to blow my own trumpet, but back in 2021, before nominations were even announced, I predicted the character would win Smart an Emmy. With the show coming to an end this year, she become only the second actor to win an Emmy for every season of the same show after Bill Cosby did the same for all three seasons of I Spy from 1966 to 1968. A rare occasion when Cosby is desirable company to be in.

In the drama categories, The Pitt continued its dominance, and there was a long overdue win for Rhea Seehorn for her work in Pluribus, after years of being overlooked for her staggering performances in Better Call Saul. There was also a crowd-pleasing fourth win for Sally Field, for the one-of-a-kind octopus-based drama Remarkably Bright Creatures.

The final award of the night went, predictably by now, to Widow’s Bay for Best Comedy. The Emmys proved it knows good what good TV looks like, it’s just a shame it couldn’t recreate it here. Deserving winners, but the jokes may as well have been written in another language. As Rhys put it: “Diolch yn fawr iawn.” Thank you very much, indeed.

Oasis 2027 tour: Everything we know about band's future gigs, from Glasgow to Knebworth

Oasis are hitting the road again in 2027, just two years after their momentous comeback tour.

The band have confirmed a 38-date live tour from May to September next year in a tour with dates in the UK, Europe and America.

The UK shows are made up of five dates in Glasgow, 11 dates in Manchester and four at Knebworth, 30 years after they played a historic two nights to 250,000 fans at the Hertfordshire venue in 1996.

Size? closes York branch amid Joe & The Juice plans

Size? in St Sampson’s Square shut on Saturday (September 12).

The closure comes after the Local Democracy Reporting Service revealed that plans had been submitted to convert the store into a Joe & The Juice drinks, coffee and sandwich in early June.

Stock has been removed from Size? with a sign in the shop’s window directing customers to its Leeds branch.

“Thank you for your support,” the sign said.

Size? opened in the St Sampson’s Square unit, previously home to the Cloggs shoe shop and Barratts footwear store before that, in 2018.

The brand launched in 2000 and grew from stores in Manchester, London and Brighton to more than 30 locations across the UK, Europe and North America.

It was set up by JD Group to test product collections in house before rolling them out across its other brands.

The group stated in its yearly results for 2025/6 it was converting its Finish Line estate to JD branding.

It has also decided to shut its remaining Hip stores and move the brand to online-only trading. The Hip stores being closed are in Leeds and Manchester.

Group chief executive Régis Schultz said in a report on the results that sales across the company grew by 2.1 per cent in 2025/6 despite tough market conditions.

Meanwhile, Joe & The Juice is yet to announce when its York branch would open if its plans for the site succeed.

The store’s conversion is set to see the building transformed into a Joe & The Juice with seating for 65 people, 29 on the ground floor and 36 on the first.

Drinks including juices, shakes and coffees are set to be served along with sandwiches, according to a council report on the plans.

Applicants stated the conversion would result in a cleaner, more refined interior while preserving the building’s historic character.

Plans said: “By virtue of the proposed development, the external enhancements will facilitate the upgrade of the site for the operation of Joe & The Juice.

“Allowing Joe & The Juice to operate in the space will bring increased employment and opportunities for local people and continued social and economic regeneration of the city.”

Council planning officers said the proposed development fell within the same use class as Size?, meaning the conversion only required a certificate of lawfulness rather than full planning permission.

Joe & The Juice was founded in Copenhagen in 2002 and now has more than 500 stores across Europe, the United States, Middle East, Africa and Asia.

The company has a number of outlets in London and South East England, along with ones in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Liverpool, Manchester and Oxford.
