GTA 6 – it’s got to happen one day (Rockstar Games)
The Tuesday letters page struggles to imagine a world in which GTA 6 is actually out, as a reader suggests making a Lego One Piece video game.

No guesses I don’t really understand what happened with the Best Buy pre-orders and how the emails can be real but they didn’t happen, but somehow I find it very hard to believe anything happening at all ever! At some point I know it will, but I’ve lived a large portion of my life with no GTA 6 and when it actually squeaks into existence it’s going to be a shock.
So I guess we’re back to guessing any random day for Trailer 3 or pretend the next random gravy spot on a new DLC T-shirt is a blatant clue. The one thing I will predict is that when it does happen absolutely no one will have predicted it and it’ll just come out of nowhere and suddenly GTA 6 will be something you can buy.
I’ll make a guess though, just for the hell of it, and go with the late summer rumour. So probably August sometime for pre-orders starting. Let’s see if I’m more reliable than Best Buy! Cosmo
Force of nostalgia So, it’s the 50th anniversary of Star Wars next year, so that’s got to mean a new game annoucement or something, right? We’ve got two new games out this year, with Zero Company and Galactic Racer, so it’s probably unlikely we’ll get a new one next year as well.

It’s been a long wait for a Star Wars Jedi 3 annoucement though, so maybe that’s being saved for the anniversary and a quick release afterwards. I would like to see something more retro though, given the significance of the date.
Personally, I’d like to see a new port of the old Atari coin-op, but with a VR option so you can sit in a virtual sit-down cabinet.
If they really want to push the boat out, I’d like to see remasters of other classic games through the years, connected with the original film, like Super Star Wars, Rogue Squadron/Rogue Leader, and Star Wars Arcade. No idea if they would but I’d buy it. Grackle

Slow copy It is going to be so wild if Nintendo doesn’t actually have a Direct this summer and we’re all left wondering for even longer. I’d say it’ll be funny but I think it’ll be a really bad idea and, like most people, I’ve really no idea why Nintendo thinks the lack of announcements benefits them in any way.
If the big game is a Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake, why is it not good to know about that as soon as possible? I used to get the idea that Nintendo liked to keep things secret because other people would copy their ideas, since they blatantly did.
But that was back when you could knock a new game out in a year. Those days are long gone and there’s nothing a company can do without at least three years warning, at a minimum. And besides how can anyone copy an Ocarina Of Time remake? That doesn’t even make any sense. Tolly
Good Knight Great review of Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight, GC. I love playing the Lego game with my girlfriend, so will definitely be getting that one. Crazy to think just how many Lego Batman games there have been over the years though. You don’t think of the Lego games as being that old a thing, but the first one was before Revenge of the Sith had even been released!
I do like Batman, so I’m fine with this one, but I feel it’s about time they tried something new. All you need is something with a lot of characters and a unique world. Considering there are Lego sets of it already I would’ve thought One Piece would’ve been perfect.
There are some Lego Zelda sets, and also now Pokémon, so they’d probably work too. A game with all or most pokémon in it sounds like it’d be very popular, although I’m not sure how things would work in terms of the action or collecting. Gimble

It happened again So Sony is raising prices again and it’s not market conditions, it’s greed. What with GTA 6 just around the corner they want to do it now so players don’t moan and they know soon as that game is out everyone will be buying a PlayStation 5 or getting PS Plus for online play.
I haven’t had PS Plus for at least five years; went on the other day and saw it has gone up £60. Last time I saw the price it was £40. This is nothing more than greed. If GTA 6 does come out 19th of November Black Friday is just a few weeks away and hopefully they will do a deal on it but, like I said, greed is the reason and it’s because of GTA 6. David
GC: Market conditions are absolutely a factor. No shop in its right mind will discount GTA 6 eight days after it first comes out.
Let it die I feel like we’ve heard about Sony bringing back old PS1 games several times before in the past, but it never seems to happen. Most companies, and you see this in movies too, seem to find it impossible to say a franchise is dead or doesn’t need a new sequel.

I loved Ape Escape and Warhawk and Jak And Daxter back in the day but I’m not sure there’s anything obvious to do with them anymore. It’s been too long and so you either have to do the same thing again or evolve them into something that’s probably unrecognisable, which if they’d had more sequels along the way would’ve happened more naturally.
I’m not saying no to it, but I would’ve been a lot more interested if Sony said it was going to make new IP, instead of just reviving washed up games that had their chance. Even in a best case scenario how many are going to be hits? I in 4 at most? And how much time and money is it going to be wasted getting to the one hit?
Nintendo long ago realised that sometimes a franchise has just gone as far as it can. There wasn’t a Metroid on N64 and F-Zero hasn’t been around since the GameCube. They might come back but only when there’s a good reason to take advantage of new tech.
There’s never going to be any good reason for a new Syphon Filter or Resistance except cheap nostalgia. Carfemt

Clobberin’ time I know GC was a fan of Marvel Cosmic Invasion and I am too, but it’s a shame that the game doesn’t seem to have had any impact and has ended up as another example of a Marvel game not being a licence to print money at all – surprisingly it’s the opposite.
But anyway, they’ve announced Cyclops and The Thing as new DLC characters. It was very odd that the Fantastic Four weren’t in it from the start but there you go. I could’ve done without another X-Men character though. I never think of them as cosmic myself, even though I know they are. Renton

Be careful what you wish for Fun to think that GTA 6 would be a year old today if it had come out when first intended, although, like you said, 18 months isn’t really that late considering. I mean, how late is HS2 at this point?
It is interesting to think of a time when GTA 6 is not the most anticipated game of all time but something people are just used to. I’m not sure what will take over from it, as the thing everyone looks forward to, but I’m sure there’ll never be anything like GTA 6 again, given how long it’s been since the last one.

Even if Red Dead Redemption 3, or something similar, is next I feel certain it’s not going to take 13 years for it to come out. In fact, it’s quite exciting to imagine a post-GTA 6 world because I think there’s good reason to hope Rockstar will release a lot more games a lot more quickly at that point.
However, all this stuff about Roblox style user-generated content is going to be massive. I don’t think Rockstar has even officially confirmed it yet, so most people don’t know it’s coming, but it’s such a no-brainer I’d bet everything it’s true.
Roblox but GTA Is going to be massive and I actually think that between the two, one for kids and one for adults, a lot of casual gamers aren’t going to see a need for normal video games after this. GTA 6 coming out may end up being a bit of a monkey paw situation. Tacle
Inbox also-rans I wonder if they’re going to shoehorn Krystal into the Star Fox remake. I never liked that character, she wasn’t anything like the other Star Fox crew and she was drawn so sexy it was kind of embarrassing. Dawson

Forza Horizon 6 seems to have made quite a big impact on Steam but imagine how much bigger it would’ve been if the PlayStation 5 version was out at the same time. That seems a real own goal to me. Biff

Motorists wishing to use the A11 this Tuesday morning, be warned: You will face local diversions in the wake of today’s pre-dawn crash.
A National Highways spokesperson said in an online statement: “Traffic is being diverted via local routes.
They added: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
With that in mind, when Lily began her tour in support of the project – aptly titled Lily Allen Performs West End Girl – earlier this year, much was made of the fact that the show saw the Smile singer performing West End Girl in its entirety, before leaving the stage.
This followed a section where a string orchestra played a selection of Lily’s hits from her first three albums, with concert-goers being encouraged to sing along karaoke-style.
Now that Lily has kicked off the arena leg of the tour, her show is once again facing scrutiny, with one journalist for the Spectator writing on X that she’d been on stage for 50 minutes, had “no support act”, spoken “not one word to the audience” and charged “£86 [for a seat] in the gods”.
Lily responded on Monday night, pointing out that “there is a support act” and that her show “has always been advertised as Lily Allen Performs West End Girl.”

She explained: “I was a few [minutes] late as my tights were laddered and I had to change them. The show is just over an hour as it’s just the album in its entirety.
“It’s my artistic choice not to talk to the audience, the fourth wall helps with the storytelling. Most people find it to be effective.”
The chart-topping star added: “I don’t want anyone to feel ripped off, everyone on this tour is really working very hard to give people the best show we possibly can, and I’m extremely proud of it.”

When one fan claimed that the British star was the subject of a “smear campaign” that had come “out of nowhere”, she wrote back: “Oh it’s coming from somewhere, but we move!”
A follow-up post saw her speculating that “bots” could be behind some of the negative comments being shared about her online.
Dan Jarvis, the new defence secretary, has spent his two weeks in the job “refocusing” the Dip, Downing Street said, so that it will get the “latest kit” into the hands of the armed forces.
The Defence Secretary said: “Our armed forces are serving at an increasingly dangerous and unpredictable time. We are determined to give them what they need as they serve with courage and exceptional skill to keep us safe.
“The character of warfare is rapidly changing. In Ukraine and the Middle East, uncrewed systems are defining conflicts.
“This largest ever UK investment into these evolving technologies will help our armed forces stay ahead of our adversaries, backed by the best of our defence industry.

Britain has been closely watching the use of drones in the theatre of war in Ukraine, where some 200,000 are now used each month to defend against Russian forces, and in Iran, where around 700 drones were launched each day at the height of its war with the US and Israel.

The summer window has taken another twist as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham work hard on securing new signings. The Gunners are working on bringing two of the Premier League’s best midfielders to the Emirates, with Morgan Rogers their transfer priority and Bruno Guimaraes potentially available for cheaper than expected. Aston Villa are demanding £130million for Rogers, after Manchester City paid £116m for Elliot Anderson. The Gunners have explored a move for Alex Scott as an alternative.

Jagger Strang, of Stafford, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court following his earlier guilty pleas to seven separate offences. The charges included two counts of possession of an explosive substance, two counts of possession of information likely to be useful for terrorist purposes, making a threat to kill, threatening to destroy or damage property, and possession of a prohibited weapon in a private place.
The teenager entered his guilty pleas at Leicester Crown Court on May 6, the day his trial was scheduled to begin.

The prosecution outlined a terrifying sequence of events that began in September 2025. Strang, who was 17 at the time and enrolled as a student at Stafford College, openly boasted to his peers that he had gathered numerous weapons and intended to detonate explosives on the college site.
Vigilant staff members and students immediately alerted a college safeguarding officer. Recognising the severity of the threat, the college contacted Staffordshire Police, who dispatched officers to Strang’s home address and arrested him that same afternoon.
During a forensic search of Strang’s property, investigators discovered a hazardous collection of chemical components alongside homemade explosive mixtures, including black powder and thermite – both fabricated directly by the teenager.
A blow pipe and other tactical paraphernalia were also uncovered at the address.
Specialist officers also seized and analysed Strang’s mobile phone. Digital forensic teams uncovered highly concerning materials, including a handwritten personal manifesto, detailed step-by-step instructions on manufacturing functioning bombs and remote detonators, and a recent internet search history dedicated entirely to notorious mass killers.
“This was an extremely concerning case involving a teenager with a clear and troubling fixation on violence,” Detective Inspector Dave Rowlands of Staffordshire Police said following the sentencing.
“The threats he made caused genuine fear among students and staff.”
Strang was remanded in custody immediately following his arrest in 2025 and remained detained until his sentencing hearing.

Law enforcement officials heavily praised the swift containment of the threat, highlighting that the decisive reporting by the college community likely averted a disaster.
“Thanks to the vigilance of the college community and the swift response from Staffordshire Police, we were able to intervene quickly and prevent any potential harm,” Detective Inspector Rowlands added. “We take all reports of this nature incredibly seriously.”

Online videos show the toys being heated up so that they are soft and easeir to squeeze.
However, experts are now asking parents not to heat the toys, as it causes pressure to build inside the squishy, increasing the risk it may explode and release the hot gel inside that can stick to the skin and cause severe burns.
Six children have been treated at the Royal Hospital for Children (RHC) in Glasgow with injuries linked to the trend over the past eight months, with some requiring surgery, including skin grafts.
Joseph must now avoid direct sunlight on the graft area for two years. (Image: PA)
Warning over exploding toys burning children
One of those hurt was eight-year-old Joseph Erskine from Clackmannanshire.
His mother, Stephanie Ewing, said: “My husband and I were home. We were sitting in the living room next door when Joseph came in holding a towel to his face.
“He had already wiped off the burning gel which had also taken off his skin.
“He was saying that his squishy burnt him and we initially thought he meant a chemical burn.
“Then he told us that he had put it in the microwave.
“We were shocked as it had never crossed our minds that he would do that with a toy.
“He has never used the microwave before.
“Joseph’s burn wouldn’t heal on its own and required a graft, where skin was taken from his thigh and applied to his chest.
“He is normally such an active and sporty child with six clubs per week, but all of that is on hold until he heals.”
The injury happened after Joseph saw the trend online, and now his mother is urging other parents to talk to their children about the dangers.
A similar case involved 11-year-old Scarlet Rowe from Irvine.
She suffered burns to her face and eyelid after heating a squishy toy in May.
Her mother, Gina, said: “We didn’t realise what had happened at first, it just looked like slime on her face.
“It was only after a few minutes we realised it had been heated and was burning her skin.
“The swelling was so bad that we weren’t sure what the outcome would be.
“Thankfully, no graft was required but it is so close to her eye that this could have been a lot worse.
“These toys are very popular and easy to buy, but we had no idea about the risks.
“We had only bought them that day.

“I’d strongly advise parents to be vigilant and check what children are watching and trying online.”
Medical experts warn that heating squishy toys in the microwave causes pressure to build up.
This can make the toys explode and release hot gel that sticks to the skin, causing severe burns.
Sharon Ramsay, a burns nurse at the Royal Hospital for Children, said: “Unfortunately, we are seeing a growing number of children with preventable injuries linked to this trend.
“When these toys are heated, the contents can explode and stick to the skin, causing deep burns.
“These injuries can be very serious and may require long-term treatment, including surgery and rehabilitation.
“In some cases, children are left with permanent scarring.
“We strongly urge parents and carers to speak to their children about the risks.”

Videos on social media platforms have been promoting the idea that microwaving squishy toys makes them softer.
Burn specialists say injuries from the trend may be especially severe.
This is because the gel inside the toys can remain extremely hot and adhere to the skin, causing deeper and more prolonged burns.

Healing and recovery from burns can take weeks or months and children who suffer them often need ongoing care including dressings, physiotherapy and scar management.
The Scottish National Burns Centre is hosted within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
