Andrew and Tristan Tate must stay in jail as they fight their extradition to the UK to face rape and sex trafficking charges, a US judge has ruled.

The brothers’ defence team made a bid to secure their release on bail, but it was rejected by magistrate Lauren Louis.

It means the controversial pair will remain behind bars in Miami during what could be a lengthy legal process aimed at securing their removal to Britain.

The judge said the Tates “have failed to meet their burden to demonstrate that they do not present a risk of flight or danger to the community, or that special circumstances warrant their release”.

She added: “Respondents have failed to demonstrate that special circumstances here warrant relief, whether their proposed special circumstances are considered singly or together.

“Having failed to meet these three factors, respondents’ motion for release pending extradition proceedings is denied.”

The former professional kickboxers, who hold dual US and British citizenship, have been held in custody since their arrest in July.

They were detained after more charges were brought against them by UK prosecutors.

The brothers’ lawyer, Joe McBride, said in a statement that he “profoundly” disagreed with the decision to keep his clients in custody.

He added: “They have not been convicted of a crime. They have not been ordered extradited.”

He went on: “The cruelty is simple. Britain gets 60 days to build its case while Andrew and Tristan rot in a federal jail. The process is the punishment.

“Andrew and Tristan lose their liberty first and challenge the evidence later. This is the cold machinery of extradition. Rules and deadlines move forward with deliberate indifference to the human lives caught inside them.

“By the time the merits are heard, more than 60 days of liberty may already be gone without a finding of guilt or a judgment of extradition. No later victory can give that time back.”

The Tates are deeply divisive figures, who have built a massive online following – mainly among young men and boys – to which they have been accused of promoting misogyny and toxic masculinity.

During a court hearing last month, the Tates maintained their innocence and argued their brash online personas were characters and not their true personalities.

They said their claims of wealth were largely exaggerated to bolster their social media presence and that luxury items such as the 50 million dollar yacht or 2.1 million dollar Aston Martin car seen in their videos did not belong to them.

Their lawyers had previously argued their clients’ “extraordinary notoriety and recognisability” would make it very difficult for them to flee if freed pending extradition proceedings.

They also said the UK’s request was out of order because of an existing criminal case in Romania, which last week saw the brothers accused of additional trafficking and sex crime offences.

In July, Andrew Tate, 39, was charged by the British authorities with seven further counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and 19 additional charges for offences relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.

Tristan Tate, 38, was charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the 38 additional charges, in addition to 21 existing charges, relate to alleged offences between July 2010 and August 2017.

The brothers have denied any wrongdoing.

The captain of the Amazon Prime jet that overshot a runway and killed five people was a former US Army Black Hawk helicopter instructor and aviation safety officer, the Daily Mail can reveal.

Joseph Carroll, one of two crew members who escaped Sunday’s disaster at Miami International Airport unscathed, spent 15 years in the military before becoming an airline pilot.

The married father of two boys joined the Army in 1997 as an air traffic controller, became a Black Hawk UH-60 pilot and went on to train fellow soldiers for overseas combat missions.

For his final nine months of service, Carroll, 55, was a safety officer in an aviation company based out of Reno, Nevada, according to his online resume.

The Boulder, Colorado-based vet became VP of flight operations at a drone company when he left the Army in 2013, where he was again in charge of compliance, safety and occupational health.

He transitioned into flying commercial planes in 2018, working first for SkyWest Airlines then Kalitta Charters and most recently 21Air, which operated Sunday’s flight for Amazon.

The experienced aviator found himself at the controls of the Boeing 767 during a catastrophic crash landing, which is now the subject of a National Transportation Safety Board investigation.

NTSB engineer Chihoon Shin told reporters that 30 seconds before the end of the flight data recording, the nose landing gear and right main landing gear touched down.

The left main landing gear then touched down at Miami’s Runway 30 with 19 seconds to go.

Four seconds later, Chihoon said, the brakes were released and the throttles were ‘increased to values consistent with go-around thrust.’

The sudden burst of power could indicate that whoever was flying the plane, Carroll or First Officer Jaime Felipe Silva Molina, 37, was trying suddenly to abort their landing.

But with 11 seconds to go on the recording, they reduced the throttles to idle and reapplied the brakes.

There was, according to Chihoon, no indication they deployed their speed brakes and thrust reversers, both of which would have helped the massive plane reduce speed.

Investigators have not said whether it was Carroll or Silva flying the plane before it barreled into a cleaning van owned by aircraft cleaning company Professional Ocean Service Corp, killing five occupants and injuring two more.

Both airmen, who were hospitalized and then released, are due to be interviewed by the NTSB on Wednesday.

The Daily Mail asked an experienced 767 pilot who flies for a major commercial airline to interpret the latest data.

‘My initial read on the timeline is that whoever was flying the plane screwed up royally,’ the pilot said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

‘He landed too far down the runway and should have gone around. But it looks as though he allowed the airplane to touch down, started to apply brakes but forgot the thrust reverses and ground spoilers.

‘He realized he didn’t have enough runway left and advanced the power. He then realized he didn’t have enough runway to take off and hit the brakes. It was too late to avoid going off the runway.’

The pilot told the Daily Mail that attempting to land a plane amidst an unstable approach might see the crew flagged for retraining at a passenger airline.

‘If you are outside these parameters, expect a phone call to explain why you continued the approach,’ he said.

‘No self-respecting pilot should be embarrassed by having to go around. Yes, there is some self-flagellation because it may have been caused by self-induced errors.

‘My response: who gives a crap. Safety is priority. There is no room for ego.’

Neither pilot could be reached for comment.

Captain Carroll had 7,145 hours of flying experience, while Silva had 2,655, according to the NTSB.

Carroll, for his part, was relatively inexperienced with the 767, having earned his type rating for the decades-old widebody jet in May.

Silva gained an aeronautical engineering degree from his native Colombia before moving to Miami to study and attend flight school.

A LinkedIn profile seen by the Daily Mail shows that Silva describes himself as a pilot who thrives in ‘dynamic environments where professionalism, communication and sound decision making are essential.’

‘I remain committed to advancing my aviation career while contributing to safe, efficient and high-performing flight operations,’ he said.

Social media posts reveal how Silva even used his passion for aviation to pull off an elaborate proposal to his wife, Lorena Arevalo, six years ago.

He even documented the romantic surprise in a nine-minute video titled ‘A proposal to remember in the air,’ and teasing in the caption: ‘she has no idea what is about to happen.’

The footage shows the couple buckled up in the plane and taking off, flying in the clear south Florida skies until he made his bride-to-be look down – where she spotted the marry me sign and was overcome, tearfully repeating, ‘te amo, te amo (I love you).’

The five dead were identified as Rolando Aleman, 55, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53, Julio C Pineda, 75, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo.

After crushing their van, the plane tore through a perimeter fence onto a local street where it hit an SUV, finally grinding to a halt 1,300ft past the end of the tarmac.

The plane was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico – the aircraft’s third trip of the day.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but a preliminary report by the Federal Aviation Administration found that the airport is not equipped with the Engineered Materials Arresting System that has been installed at more than 120 airports nationwide.

The system places beds of lightweight, crushable material at the end of a runway to help bring planes that overshoot the tarmac safely to a stop, the agency said.

Meanwhile, the widow of one of those killed has launched a wrongful death lawsuit against both pilots, as well as Amazon, Amazon Air Cargo and 21 Air, alleging a catalogue of failures led to the tragedy.

Yaraisi Santiso Morejon, whose husband Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo was among the five who perished, filed the action in Miami Dade Circuit Court.

The lawsuit alleges pilot error and other failures were to blame, including inadequate training and the fact the aircraft was 32 years old.

Mike Morgan, of injury law firm Morgan & Morgan which is handling the case, said: ‘We allege that this was not a freak accident, but a foreseeable and preventable disaster caused by negligence.

‘What we’ve already uncovered points to a series of failures by the people flying the plane, the companies that put it in the air and the systems that were supposed to prevent this exact kind of tragedy. Yaraisi deserves answers and justice. We intend to get her both.’

‘Our hearts go out to Yaraisi and her family, as well as all those who were impacted by what we believe was a preventable tragedy,’ John Morgan, the firm’s founder, added. 

‘No one should lose their loved one this way, and the filing of this lawsuit is just the beginning of our fight to secure justice and accountability for Mr. Naranjo’s death. Everyone who played a role in this horrific crash will be held accountable.’

The Daily Mail reached out to the defendants named in the lawsuit.  

Israel has been building settlements in the occupied West Bank for decades. But Britain’s new ban on the import of settlement goods comes in a response to a major escalation in construction over the past four years, which an International Court of Justice advisory opinion in 2024 concluded is illegal and must stop.

Most striking are recent steps to build a new settlement bloc known as E1 on the outskirts of Jerusalem. First planned as long ago as 1999, but progressing significantly over the past year or so, the E1 bloc would mark a major change to the geography of the West Bank.

Current plans allow for thousands of housing units in the settlement, as well as commercial properties and regional services. The project would establish a new urban area that would connect the large settlement of Maale Adumim with East Jerusalem.

The international community has long seen the construction of E1 as a red line for three main reasons. First, it would isolate East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank, including major Palestinian cities like Ramallah and Bethlehem. This matters because East Jerusalem is the proposed capital of a Palestinian state in any future two-state agreement to end the conflict.

Second, because E1 reaches across the West Bank at its narrowest point, it would also disrupt the connections between the north and south of the territory. Fragmenting the West Bank in this way would again undermine efforts to develop a future Palestine state.

And third, the construction of E1 would involve the displacement of Palestinians. This includes people in the community of Khan al-Ahmar, which Israeli authorities ordered should be evacuated in May 2026 ahead of the new settlement construction.

Israeli government ministers have been explicit that E1 would suffocate any future Palestinian state. In September 2025, when announcing new progress on E1, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We are going to fulfil our promise that there will be no Palestinian state.” His finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has also said E1 would “bury the idea of a Palestinian state”.

The E1 project has advanced considerably in recent times, after years of delay. In August 2025, final planning approval was given for more than 3,400 housing units on the site. Then, in August 2026, the first call for construction tenders was issued to build 1,200 residential units in the southern part of E1. The closing date for bidding is on October 19, just before Israeli elections on October 27.

The UK’s import ban, which seems intended to deter companies from taking part in building E1, has been backed by similar measures announced by countries including Canada, France, Ireland and Spain.

Mounting international concern

The ban on settlement goods demonstrates mounting international concern about Israel’s actions. More than 700,000 Israeli settlers now live on land captured in the 1967 six-day war, even though settlements on occupied land are illegal under international law.

Israeli rights group, Peace Now, reports that more than 102 new settlements have been approved since 2022, most deep inside the West Bank. The Israeli military often supports settlers building new outposts, and the Israeli government provides substantial financial backing to establish settlements.

The UN says that more than 6,400 Palestinians have been displaced in the West Bank due to settler attacks and access restrictions since January 2023, of which at least 2,500 were displaced in 2026 alone.

In addition, more than 30,000 Palestinians have been displaced from refugee camps during Israeli military operations in the northern West Bank since late 2024.

Israel’s expanded control over the West Bank is one element in a broader revisionist policy to push its borders outwards, which marks a step change from a previous strategy of conflict management.

The new moves come in the wake of the October 2023 attacks, when Hamas gunmen killed more than 1,200 Israelis and captured 250 hostages, and Israel’s subsequent war in Gaza, which has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians and devastated the strip.

Since the war began, Israel has seized territory as a buffer zone in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah. It has also advanced into Syria, following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024. In Gaza, Israel has now taken control of at least 60% of the strip and is considering building three new military settlements there.

Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, recently again raised the prospect that Israel may seek to expel the 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. Egypt, which has a border with Gaza, and Jordan, which shares a border with the West Bank, are gravely concerned about the risk of mass deportation of Palestinians across their borders.

The UK government’s action against settlement expansion, accompanied by similar measures introduced by countries elsewhere, signals a new effort to curb these expansionist ambitions.

One person said they were ‘slightly concerned’ to see it still hadn’t been removed

Nearly ten years on from the Grenfell Tower fire, ten high-rise buildings in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough still have unsafe cladding, but the combined authority say they are “confident” it will be removed in time to meet government targets.

In a performance report given to the combined authority’s overview and scrutiny panel, it was noted that four residential buildings have had their cladding or flammable insulation partially or fully replaced.

This included three high-rise buildings, of seven stories or more, and one medium-rise building defined as having five or six stories. This was the same number of buildings with unsafe cladding replaced as the last time the figures were brought to panel in June.

The report noted that it is “ultimately the responsibility of building owners” to make sure that “risks have been identified and necessary action taken”. It said that “very good progress has been maintained” and the authority is “on track to carry out all necessary assessments and engagement with landlords” to meet their targets.

Out of the region’s 34 high-rise residential buildings – 21 require no further action but ten still need to have their cladding replaced. Cllr Anna Bradnam, of South Cambridgeshire District Council, said she was “very glad to see” buildings assessed and fixed but “slightly concerned” that ten still hadn’t. The Liberal Democrat councillor asked what was being done to monitor them.

Daniel Buckridge, performance and evaluation manager, said he had been advised that Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service had written to the owners “to check on their progress or what their plans are for remediation”.

He said there had been an issue with the government sharing details of buildings that had joined the national cladding scheme, but when given access they would be able to “get progress updates on those directly from that system”.

He said: “Once we have that, we’ll have a better understanding of what’s going to be delivered when and we’ll be able to then perhaps set targets for when we expect those remediations to be complete.”

Cllr Bradnam said: “I don’t know how many years we are on now from Grenfell tower, but writing a letter to the landowners seems a relatively mild thing to be doing. This is something that, actually it was quite some time after that, but the requirement came in that unsafe cladding should be removed”.

Mr Buckridge said the target for cladding to be removed is December 31, 2029 for high-rise buildings and December 31, 2031 for medium rise buildings. These deadlines were introduced in July 2025.

Of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s 144 medium-rise residential buildings, 59 needed no further action and 84 must have their cladding replaced.

He said: “We’re working with resources that have been passed on to us, but this wasn’t previously a duty for combined authorities. We are confident that we’re going to meet those targets.”

Brits can look forward to balmy Autumn temperatures of 24C later this month with 24 areas enjoying at least 22C, according to Met Office charts.

In a year with a succession of heatwaves and unprecedented high temperatures, the warm weather is not over yet.

Met Office maps show temperatures dropping into the teens in the coming days but the mercury is then set to rise again with highs of 24C in London on Monday, September 21.

Warm air is set to be brought to the UK by a high pressure system from the Continent with the south of the country seeing the highest temperatures. There are 24 areas set for at least 22C according to the charts, with the West Midlands the furthest north.

Some of the home counties could see 23C but it will be cooler along the south coast and Cornwall.

Further north, it will still be pleasant in the sunshine with temperatures in the high teens or 20C but there are also rain clouds over Scotland from a lurking low pressure front.

A Met Office forecast from September 14 to 23 says there will be “some rather warm days at times” during the period.

It states: “Remaining changeable, with occasional rain or showers arriving from the North Atlantic, most frequent across northern and western parts of the UK, where some strong winds will also be possible at times.

“However, there will also be some reasonable dry and more settled periods, especially across southern areas. Later in the month, high pressure may become more dominant in the vicinity of the UK, perhaps bringing more widely settled conditions for a time, especially away from the far north.

“Temperatures for the period as a whole will probably be close to average overall, but there is scope for some rather warm days at times, along with occasional relatively cool nights.”

Looking further ahead to the end of the month and early October, the forecaster says that the weather could become “more changeable”.

It says: “High pressure initially close to the UK, with a continuation of more settled conditions at times, may start to weaken its influence on the weather later in the month and into early October.

Two pet owners from Bolton have been banned from keeping dogs after their German Shepherd was left to suffer with a tumour.

John Cochran, 32, and Kerry Harwood, 41, failed to get vetinary care for their elderly female dog Copper despite her screaming in pain and being so unwell she had to be put down.

An RSPCA inspector attended an address on Moss Bank Way in Bolton, where the pair were living, in August last year following a tip-off. They found Copper shut into the kitchen of the property.

She had a large ‘pendulous’ mammary tumour, the medical term for a swinging tumour..

RSPCA Inspector Jess Pierce said: “I could see a large tumour hanging from her abdomen and [there was] a strong smell which smelled like rotting flesh and infection. The tumour appeared ulcerated as it was very red and swollen and leaking fluid in different areas.”

Inspector Pierce said Hrwood told her that ‘she knew something needed to be done about the dog’ and said she knew that Copper needed to be put to sleep. Cochran, who also lived at the address and who the charity said was responsible for Copper, was out at the time of the visit.

The inspector took Copper to the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital and said she ‘screamed before the vet had even placed his hand near the lump on her abdomen.’

Vets concluded that putting her to sleep was ‘the most humane option.’

Cochran, of Chorley New Road and Harwood, of Moss Bank Wa were prosecuted and both pleaded guilty to causing unneccessary suffering to a protected animal.

They were both disqualified from owning and keeping dogs for a period for three years when they appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court for sentence last Tuesday (September 1).

They were also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and do 20 rehabilitation acitivty requirement days, as part of a 12 month community order. They must also pay £925.30 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge.

In a statement issued following the sentencing, Inspector Deborah Beats, who carried out the investigation, said: “This was such an upsetting case to investigate as poor Copper had been let down so badly by her two owners.

“It was unquestionable that Copper was in pain and suffering from the extremely large tumour, yet her owners did not provide her with appropriate veterinary care.

“It’s so essential that pet owners seek prompt treatment for their animals, and whilst we appreciate some can struggle to afford veterinary costs, there is help available and we all have a responsibility to make sure our animals are properly cared for.”

Motocross rider Jamie Wainwright has passed away aged just 28, with his heartbroken fiancée describing life as “impossible” without him. The circumstances surrounding his death remain undisclosed, though Wainwright, from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, is understood to have lost his life following a motorcycle incident last month.

He was a skilled competitor and deeply committed to motocross, riding for several prestigious teams throughout his racing career, including Revo Seven Kawasaki and Apex Motocross. He competed on both KTM and Kawasaki machines, according to NeedToKnow.

His heartbroken fiancée Hannah Murray, who had been with Wainwright for 13 years, has now delivered a moving tribute to her “best friend”.

“You knew I worshipped the ground you walked on and would have done anything in this world for you; it was us forever. I hope you continue to look down on me as I’m really going to need you.”

Stinsons Independent Family Funeral Directors issued a statement on his death. A spokesperson for the firm said: “Sadly, we announce the passing of James Wainwright, known to all as Jamie, who passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, aged 28 years.

“A much-loved son to Chris and Karen, a cherished brother to Ben and Matt, a devoted fiancé to Hannah, and a much-loved uncle to Summer.

“Jamie will be remembered for the life he lived, the memories he made and the many special moments shared with those who knew and loved him.”

Wainwright’s funeral is due to take place at Holy Trinity Church in his hometown on Wednesday, September 16.
