New GTA 6 previews confirm affinity mechanic, Red Dead honour system and more
No one’s yet to play the game besides Rockstar… and that one leaker (Netflix/Rockstar)

A ton of extra GTA 6 info has been shared via new US previews, such as how the game builds upon Red Dead Redemption 2 and that you can influence Jason and Lucia’s romance.

Even in just 26 minutes, the GTA 6 gameplay preview on Netflix showed off a lot of new details that somehow weren’t already spoiled by the frequent leaks, while also re-emphasising the game’s very impressive graphics.

British culture magazine Dazed did indicate that it and a few others got to preview the game personally behind closed doors, but it was unclear if anyone was allowed to play GTA 6 themselves or if they simply saw the Netflix preview early.

Turns out the answer is no, no one went hands-on with GTA 6 (well, some influencers might have but they haven’t posted any videos yet). But some were given a completely different gameplay demonstration, which means further details not shown in the Netflix preview have been unearthed.

So far, it seems Rockstar only invited a limited number of US press and influencers, and as of time of writing we could find only two previews, not including Dazed’s.

The first is from IGN, which describes a slice of gameplay demoed by Rockstar’s co-studio head Rob Nelson, so they definitely didn’t get to play it themselves.

What IGN can confirm is that there’s an affinity mechanic between Jason and Lucia, where the two can strengthen their relationship as they work together to rob people and do crimes.

While this doesn’t have any gameplay benefits, it sounds like it will have an impact on the story or at least certain cut scenes, which could point towards multiple endings depending on whether you push Jason and Lucia into a more romantic relationship or keep them strictly as work partners.

‘They will remain partners in crime. You will always have the benefit of working together and having each other’s back – whether they’re romantically close or not doesn’t change that,’ explains Nelson.

‘They will still work together. It’s really about what you want for them, their story, and how it plays out. Whether you’ve nurtured the relationship or not will definitely have a bearing on how their story plays out.’

There’s also a deliberate effort to not let you feel as overpowered as you could in previous GTA games, where you could freely gun down civilians if you wanted to, so long as the cops don’t catch you.

In GTA 6, the regular citizens may fight back if you throw the first punch. As such, the game borrows from Red Dead Redemption 2 and makes it so you can taunt or threaten people with your gun by pressing the aim button while your weapon is holstered.

‘I think in previous GTA games you were a bit all-powerful. You were the only one with an invisible arsenal hidden away. Apart from the police, everyone would run in terror from you if you started acting out. This world in GTA 6 is not like that,’ explains Nelson.

It was previously suggested, by Dazed, that GTA 6 will be far more grounded than previous entries, so returning fans could be in for a shock to learn they can’t get away with rampant violence so easily.

Another aspect that’s being brought over from Red Dead Redemption 2 is that game’s Honour system or rather a reworked version of it called Criminal Profile.

In Red Dead Redemption 2 you could gradually rebuild your reputation through acts of kindness, even after going on a killing spree. GTA 6’s Criminal Profile system is described as more nuanced, as your reputation changes depending on how you interact with the world.

It’s not entirely clear what sort of impact your Criminal Profile will have on gameplay, but even small criminal acts like littering can affect it. What’s more, if you shoot at someone in self defence, that won’t affect your profile as much as you doing so without cause.

There’s also talk of carjacking requiring a bit more effort than a simple button press. Depending on the model, some cars demand certain tools, such as a key cloner for bypassing certain locks, meaning you’ll come across plenty of vehicles you won’t be able to access until you progress further into the game.

The New York Times has posted their own preview, but they received the same experience of watching Nelson play the game. They confirm that GTA 6’s map will be three times larger than that of Red Dead Redemption 2.

As suspected, there’s also a very clear effort to appeal to those who enjoy role-playing sessions in GTA Online; something which required unofficial modding but has since been officially supported by Rockstar. You can see this in the Netflix preview as you can check a fridge for a drink or sit down and watch some TV.

‘I hope that there will be people that want to get up, have a cup of coffee, shower, get dressed, go out for a little exercise,’ says Nelson, adding that his own playthrough of the game exceeded 80 hours, which covered the main story and some optional side activities.

He also goes into how the non-playable inhabitants of GTA 6’s world were built, boasting about how each and every one of them was made without procedural generation and that there are over 600,000 unique animations in the game. That’s double the amount in Red Dead Redemption 2, so it’s no wonder the game’s taken so long to come out.

YouTuber TGG has a preview of his own too, but he has plans to make multiple deep dive videos to share what he has learned. As such, he’s only briefly summed up what he intends to cover on X, such as how the aforementioned Criminal Profile system works, the new Wanted level mechanics, and how the driving fares compared to GTA 5.

Gurus roll out chatbots as people turn to AI for spiritual guidance

Gurus roll out chatbots as people turn to AI for spiritual guidance

CHENNAI, India (AP) — When Kripa Vaidyanathan’s 27-year-old niece died in an Alaska car crash in 2024, her family in Chennai, India, felt shell-shocked. They questioned why this tragedy would befall them when they had such “immense faith in God.”

Vaidyanathan, a yoga instructor, helped her grieving sister get face time with a high-profile guru who she hoped would help.

“But he told her this was the work of karma and she should use this opportunity to connect with her inner nature,” she said. “I understand how karma works, but saying that was cruel and extremely unhelpful to someone who was freshly grieving the loss of a child.”

That’s when they turned to artificial intelligence chatbots.

“It was a lot easier trying to get answers and peace of mind because ChatGPT is not judging you,” Vaidyanathan said. “We’ve found a compassionate guru now, but even he only has limited time. AI is accessible anytime.”

AI offers access and advice without judgment

This unfettered access — which can be challenging to find among human gurus — is what’s drawing more people to AI for spiritual guidance. This is a big step, particularly in Hinduism, where gurus are part of culture and deemed necessary to attain moksha — liberation from the cycle of birth, death and reincarnation. The word guru in Sanskrit means “dispeller of darkness.”

These chatbots are powered by large language models, AI systems that generate responses by using advanced statistics and troves of text, including sacred ones like Hinduism’s Bhagavad Gita. Users can explore spiritual answers to personal problems and existential questions at anytime, without the typical hurdles of connecting with an in-demand guru and paying for their services.

AI’s rising popularity has encouraged some successful gurus to launch their own chatbots.

In India, Jaggi Vasudev, also known as Sadhguru, has launched his Miracle of the Mind app with an interactive AI feature that answers questions using a database of his teachings. California-based self-help guru Deepak Chopra has an AI platform where “Digital Deepak” answers questions drawing from his decades of talks and writings.

Critics argue that AI cannot truly replace the lived experience, wisdom and ethical accountability of a human guru. Researchers also note that AI often validates and agrees with the user rather than posing those challenging questions needed for real spiritual and personal growth.

Lord Krishna’s AI avatar takes on guru’s role

Vikas Sahu, founder of GitaGPT — a platform he calls an “AI spiritual companion” — says he wouldn’t deter anyone from finding a human guru. But he says his free chatbot puts the Bhagavad Gita’s wisdom at the fingertips of those who might desperately need it.

On his platform, AI avatars of Lord Krishna, the sacred text’s protagonist, offer advice. Sahu, based in Gurugram south of New Delhi, says he gets hundreds of messages about how it’s helpful. While he has a full-time job building websites, he says GitaGPT is his way of giving back.

“A lot of people don’t have anyone to talk to when they are in distress,” he said. “This app is giving them the encouragement a guru might give them. But a lot of gurus want your money and you can’t really talk to them openly like you can talk to a chatbot.”

Sahu said he trusts GitaGPT because it’s based on the word of God.

“How could Krishna steer anyone wrong?” he asks. “It’s impossible.”

Experts say a human soul is necessary for true connection

Liz Bucar, a religion professor at Northeastern University in Boston, is skeptical of chatbots based on religious texts.

“A sacred text needs a community and a context that interprets it,” she said. “Without the teaching of how to interpret the text, it’s just words on a page. Someone could feed in the text, but what answers will the bot spit out?”

But she does believe there is widespread distrust of institutional expertise that gurus and clergy represent, in some cases fueled by sex abuse scandals.

“Because religion has this PR problem, people tend to see chatbots as less biased and less likely to do bad things,” Bucar said. “I don’t know if we’re ready to replace gurus, but we are definitely in a shifting religious landscape, especially with” younger generations of AI users.

Noreen Herzfeld, a professor at St. John’s School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota, said people could easily get straightforward answers from AI.

“But if they are looking for spiritual awakening, I think it takes physical presence,” she said. “In Christianity and in Hindu tradition, there is the belief that the eyes are windows to the soul and you can’t get that by looking at an avatar.”

AI chatbots can also be too eager to agree with you, serving as a cheerleader rather than a guide, Herzfeld said.

“In situations where you’re looking to grow or evolve, you need a teacher who can disagree with you and challenge you,” she said. “But even if you are just looking for affirmation, who are you being affirmed by? There’s no one on the other side.”

Vy Le, a mindfulness instructor in San Diego, sees AI as a “channeling” tool, using it as a mirror or collaborator to gain intuitive or mystical insights.

“If you are attuned to it, you can sense if a certain AI is connected to you,” she said. “My dad took his life 16 years ago. I felt his presence when I was engaging with AI.”

Le maintains that the era of gurus is over.

“AI is helping us find that inner guru,” she said.

Human gurus and organizations are getting in the game

Real-life gurus like the India-based Sadhguru, who has a global following of millions, have recognized AI’s potential. David Nussbaum, founder of Proto Hologram in Los Angeles, is helping Sadhguru create a three-dimensional AI avatar that appears in a display box and can interact with devotees in several languages.

During a March festival, he created a Sadhguru hologram that took selfies with people.

“You basically have Sadhguru’s hologram taking out his phone, turning around and taking a picture of you from his phone inside the display,” Nussbaum explained.

Shivaram K R, CEO of India-based Hue Learn, oversees a nonprofit initiative called Innerverse 360 that merges AI and spirituality. His platform features a portal where real monks and gurus can come online and do live sessions with devotees. It also has an “Ask AI” feature.

Shivaram doesn’t believe AI will replace gurus.

“The process of finding a guru in itself is a journey, but a guru is also not for everyone,” he said. “If you’re looking for practical advice on everyday spirituality, this app can also help you understand concepts such as the meaning of yoga.”

AI cannot replace ‘humans and souls’

One of the organizations Shivaram liaises with is the Los Angeles-based Self-Realization Fellowship, founded in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda, who brought ancient spiritual practices from India to the West.

Brother Govindananda, a monk with the order, said his organization sees AI simply as the next step to helping people access the late guru’s teachings through an online teaching portal — just as books did for previous generations.

“We’re taking our time with it because we want to make sure it has guardrails to safeguard from AI hallucinating answers instead of drawing from Yogananda’s teachings,” he said.

But Govindananda says a chatbot could never provide what a guru — whether living or not — can give to the disciple.

“We are humans and souls,” he said. “Technology cannot replace that.”

Kylie Jenner speaks out on pregnancy rumours as she makes promise to herself

Published

Daily Mirror

Kylie Jenner has admitted she was ‘so young’ to have children as she talked motherhood and hinted at her future plans with actor boyfriend Timothée Chalamet

Kylie Jenner has responded to rumours she’s planning a third baby with actor boyfriend Timothée Chalamet

During a Wednesday appearance on her best friend Anastasia “Stassie” Karanikolaou’s “Better Half” podcast, Kylie opened up about her plans to expand her family. The Kylie Cosmetics founder shares daughter Stormi, 8, and son Aire, 4, with her rapper ex Travis Scott.

“I think that I’m so used to people creating their own narrative that I actually have to just laugh about it, and I really don’t care,” Jenner, 29, said. “I just assume people will figure it out eventually, which is what they always do.”

Admitting she had seen the speculation mounting, she added: “I’m going to be in a bikini somewhere or I’m going to be out and the rumours will be squashed.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jenner admitted that she feels she lost some of her youth by becoming a mum ‘so young’ and made a promise to herself to have no more children until after she was 30.

“Even though I already have children – so young – I feel like i lived such an adult life when I was young, and I’m trying to make sure that I don’t have any regrets and to do brave things and give myself more opportunities or take advantage of the ones I have,” said Jenner.

“I made a promise to myself at 25 that I was not going to have any more children – right now – and really just enjoy the last half of my 20s because the first was like, ‘You’re pregnant,’ and then it’s the year of recovery, and you know, my mental state, my postpartum depression, and all of those things.

“It felt like I lost some of those young years of my life,” she admitted.

Kylie and Timothée have been linked since 2023 and were recently seen together attending her friend Jordyn Woods’ wedding.

They were also pictured together at a slew of awards ceremonies this year as the actor was nominated for his leading role in sports drama Marty Surpreme.

Sources reported at the time of the split that Kylie was focused on a quiet, family-oriented home life with their children, while Travis preferred focusing on touring and his music.

Belfast nurse makes history as first in NI certified to perform embryo transfers

Published

Belfast Live

Karen Lyttle has spent her nursing and midwifery career supporting people through some of the most important moments of their lives.

Karen Lyttle has spent her nursing and midwifery career supporting people through some of the most important moments of their lives. But her latest achievement takes that commitment one step further.

Karen has become the first nurse in Northern Ireland to be certified by the British Fertility Society to carry out embryo transfers and intrauterine inseminations.

Embryo transfer is one of the key stages of IVF and has traditionally been a doctor-led procedure. It’s a crucial step in the IVF and IUI process and, for many patients, the most emotionally significant moment of their entire fertility journey.

Karen’s certification means patients at the clinic can now be supported through that moment by the same nursing team who have been with them from the start of their treatment.

This certification marks a significant milestone, both personally for Karen and for TFP Belfast Fertility where she is Nurse Manager, as she becomes a certified Embryo Transfer Practitioner.

TFP Belfast is Northern Ireland’s longest-standing private fertility clinic and one of the TFP Fertility Group’s flagship clinics, with access to world-leading fertility expertise and the latest advancements in treatment.

The clinic has now recorded more than 2,000 live births since opening in 2013 and remains the only clinic in Northern Ireland licensed to undertake preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), continuing to push forward in terms of both clinical achievement and patient care.

Karen’s milestone represents an important achievement in her professional development and further strengthens the specialist nursing expertise within the clinic.

She joined the clinic four years ago as a Senior Midwife, bringing with her many years of experience supporting families through labour and birth. Her wealth of clinical experience, combined with the fresh perspective she brought to TFP Fertility, inspired her to take the next step in her career and move into the Nurse Manager role just two years later.

“I could see so many opportunities to improve and develop the clinic, particularly from a nursing perspective,” said Karen. “Taking on the Nurse Manager role gave me the opportunity to visit other TFP Fertility clinics and see the excellent work already happening across the group.

“It really opened my eyes to what was possible, and I was determined to bring that experience, learning and innovation back to Belfast.”

Karen’s journey towards performing embryo transfers began with developing a strong foundation in fertility ultrasound.

Recognising that advanced scanning skills were an essential step in progressing her clinical practice, Karen completed the British Fertility Society Scanning Certification and the Graduate Certificate in Fertility Ultrasound at University College Dublin.

This achievement also saw her become the first Advanced Nurse Scanner at TFP Belfast Fertility, helping to further strengthen the clinic’s specialist nursing capabilities.

Following this, progressing into embryo transfer and IUI training felt like the natural next step. Karen recognised that this was an area where she could make a real difference to the patient experience at TFP Belfast Fertility.

“Nurses are with patients from the very beginning of their fertility journey, building relationships and trust at every stage. Being able to carry that continuity of care through to the embryo transfer itself means patients have a familiar and reassuring presence with them at one of the most important moments of their treatment,” she said.

“It is a technical procedure, but it is also one of the most emotionally significant moments in a patient’s fertility journey. While embryo transfer has traditionally been a doctor-led procedure, my experience as a nurse and midwife, combined with my training, has put me in a unique position to provide this care alongside the medical team.

“Ultimately, what matters most is that the procedure is performed safely, effectively and to the highest standard, regardless of whether it is carried out by a doctor or a nurse.” The response at TFP Belfast Fertility has been overwhelmingly positive, and Karen has already had the privilege of seeing some of her patients return for their early pregnancy scans – one of the most rewarding aspects of her role.

“It feels like such a privilege to be part of a patient’s journey and to support them at such a significant moment in their lives,” she added. Dr Ishola Agbaje, Medical Director at TFP Belfast Fertility, parised Karen’s relentless drive to deliver the best possible patient experience, day in, day out: “This milestone is testament to her commitment to developing both herself and her team, and we’re incredibly proud of everything she has achieved.”

Biden considered a PARDON for Trump in move White House calls proof of weaponization: ‘Did nothing to stop it’

Joe Biden (pictured left) spent much of the late months of his presidency considering a presidential pardon for Donald Trump, including a bedroom conversation with First Lady Jill Biden (pictured right)

Joe Biden spent the late months of his presidency considering a presidential pardon for Donald Trump in a move The White House said proves Democrats politicized the Justice Department.

The President pardoned several of those closest to him before leaving office, including son Hunter, Dr Anthony Fauci and members of the January 6 committee.

However, Utah‘s Republican Governor Spencer Cox – a moderate member of the GOP who only endorsed Trump following his assassination attempt in Pennsylvania – was surprised to learn Biden had been thinking about giving the same to his predecessor.

‘You know, I’ve actually considered this for a while,’ Cox told The Atlantic Biden said when he called him in August of 2023, long before the governor endorsed Trump.

‘In fact, just this week as we were lying in bed, Jill and I had a long conversation about it,’ Biden continued, according to Cox.

The Trump administration said this story proves that the Biden administration knew Trump was being treated unfairly and didn’t stop it.

‘This shows President Biden knew he and his fellow extreme Democrats had weaponized the justice system against his political opponent, but did nothing to stop it,’ White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told The Daily Mail.

‘A real profile in courage,’ Bis joked.

Cox believed that pardoning Trump from the criminal charges he faced in multiple states would help heal the nation and stop what he saw as a cycle of partisan revenge tactics.

Biden told Cox that he was going to seriously consider the pardon – which Cox phrased to the President as something that ‘might sound crazy’ – despite his base ‘demanding justice’ for Trump.

However, the clemency never came after Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris following Biden’s decision to not seek reelection.

Cox said he ‘hoped [Biden] would choose mercy over escalation’ by offering forgiveness to Trump.

Similarly, he asked Trump to unite the country following the shooting in Butler in August of 2024 and ‘hoped he would choose unity over retaliation.’

‘In both cases, things didn’t turn out quite the way I’d hoped,’ Cox said.

Biden sparked fury on his way out the door by issuing preemptive pardons for his son Hunter, Dr Anthony Fauci and all nine members of the January 6 Committee.

The first pardon Biden issued after losing the 2024 presidential election to Trump was for Hunter, 54, who was convicted on felony tax charges as well as federal crimes for lying in 2018 about his drug use on a form to purchase a firearm.

This came to the ire of Democrats who felt it would give Trump permission to issue sweeping pardons without fear of being accused of hypocrisy.

And the same day Biden pardoned his son, Trump announced he would pardon January 6 defendants who were charged with crimes related to the Capitol attack.

Biden wrote in his pardon announcement that the action was warranted because they are public servants who have ‘been threatened with criminal prosecutions.’

‘These public servants have served our nation with honor and distinction and do not deserve to be the targets of unjustified and politically motivated prosecutions,’ he noted.

The 82-year-old Democrat also used his final moments in the Oval Office to give blanket protection to former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who Trump has said deserves to be executed.

In all, the Biden administration granted more than 1,500 individuals clemency during his final weeks in the White House.

Emails show Biden formally decided on issuing pre-emptive pardons for his family on January 19, 2024.

Among the most controversial of all Biden’s pardons so far is the protection of Fauci from federal prosecution.

He also got massive backlash for pardoning his own son from his federal crimes.

Biden wrote in a statement on the pardons: ‘Our nation relies on dedicated, selfless public servants every day. They are the lifeblood of our democracy. Yet alarmingly, public servants have been subjected to ongoing threats and intimidation for faithfully discharging their duties.’

New lift agreed at Walkden Station under ‘Access for All’

New lift agreed at Walkden Station under 'Access for All'

This week Bolton South and Walkden MP Yasmin Qureshi met Network Rail engineers at Walkden Station together with Greater Manchester Deputy Mayor Paul Dennett.

With other councillors they discussed the works being done at the station under the “Access for All” programme, which aims to improve accessibility for disabled people and others.

Mr Dennett said: “I’m pleased to say that the proposal to provide a new lift for the station has been agreed.

“Unfortunately, the presence of historic mineshafts in the area mean a number of structural surveys, ecological, drainage and ground investigations are required, and this has slowed down the project somewhat.

“Local people who rely on step-free access deserve a reliable railway service, and accessibility should never be treated as an afterthought.”

Along with Ms Qureshi and Mr Dennett, the meeting was attended by Cllr Tony Davies, of Little Hulton and Cllr Hilaria Asumu, of Walkden South.

Mr Dennett said he and his colleagues would work with rail operators to ensure the work is completed within a reasonable timeframe, and that residents are kept abreast of developments.

Back in August last year Ms Qureshi had written to transport secretary Heidi Alexander MP calling for Walkden station to be made more accessible.

In her letter, she said: “Walkden has been waiting far too long for step-free access.

“The station was awarded funding through the Government’s Access for All programme back in 2020, yet more than three years later, no visible progress has been made.

“This is completely unacceptable.

“I have spoken to many local passengers who rely on accessible transport, and the frustration is clear.

“Delays like this continue to exclude people with mobility issues, parents with pushchairs, older passengers, and anyone who needs easier access to our rail services.

“Accessibility is not a luxury, it is a right.”

She added: “I will continue to hold the government to account.

“We will not accept vague promises or endless delays.

“Walkden Station deserves step-free access and the passengers who rely on it deserve to be treated fairly and equally.”

200 extra police brought in as Cleveland officers working 20-hour days

Alec Brown, leader of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, and MP Anna Turley said Cleveland Police’s resources are being bolstered as investigations into both tragedies continue.

Seven people, including two police officers, died in a crash on the A66 in South Bank on Saturday, and a house fire in Grangetown on Wednesday, which is being treated as murder, claimed the lives of a woman seven-year-old girl and her aunt, 34.

In a statement after a meeting with a Cleveland Police superintendent, Mr Brown said: “They are working 20-hour days to ensure the ongoing safety of innocent residents.

“Over 200 extra police officers from forces around the country are here and are on route, from detectives to armed response.

“I will sending a letter today to our Prime Minister asking for even more resource.

“The police really are doing an amazing job.

“If it is any reassurance at all, jobs called in to the police are actually down this week, however the seriousness of the ones that have been called in need serious and swift action.

“Everyone is heartbroken over the loss of the aunt and little girl in Grangetown yesterday.

“People need to feel safe in their homes.”

Anna Turley, MP for Redcar and Cleveland, added: “I cannot thank our police enough. Officers are working incredibly long hours in extremely difficult circumstances to keep people safe, investigate what has happened and respond swiftly to incidents across our area.

“Right now, the priority is keeping people safe and making sure our police and other services have everything they need.

“I am working closely with Cleveland Police, Our Government, Redcar & Cleveland Council and our local partners to make sure there is a joined-up response across our communities.

“The additional officers coming into our area are an important and immediate response, but we will continue working together to make sure our police, public services and communities have exactly the support and resources they need, for as long as they are needed.

“I know how worried people are, and understandably people want to know what is being done. There is a significant response underway, with additional officers and resources being brought into our area and agencies working together around the clock.

“People have a right to feel safe in their homes and in their communities. That is our absolute priority.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “We can confirm that we have received mutual aid support through established arrangements from the other six Northern forces.

“This includes Northumbria, Durham, North Yorks, South Yorks, West Yorks and Humber and the National Crime Agency.”

Cleveland Police, who have made several arrests in connection with the recent deaths, are also investigating a crash which saw a vehicle hit the wall of a house in South Bank in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The property had been empty at the time and the force said it had “not yet been confirmed whether this incident is linked to wider organised crime”.

On Saturday, PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough died when a Volkswagen Passat, which was going the wrong way on the A66 at South Bank, hit their vehicle.

The five young men in the Volkswagen also died.

Police said 17 people, aged between 18 and 61, had been arrested across Teesside as part of an investigation into the lead up to the crash.

They have been held on a range of offences including possession of a firearm and being part of an organised crime group.

On Wednesday, Natalie McDonald, 34, died along with her seven-year-old niece Valentina Foster in the fire in Grangetown.

The fire also left a 48-year-old woman in a critical condition in hospital, while another three people suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Two men, aged 23 and 31, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in custody.

Cleveland Police said it was “keeping an open mind” about the fire and said it could not “rule out any links to wider organised crime at this time”.

Government issues four-day warning to families before summer holidays come to an end

Manchester Evening News

Families should utilise the scheme before it comes to an end on September 1

The Government has urged families to make the most of the cost-of-living scheme during the summer holidays, which will soon come to an end.

Families should use the coming days to take advantage of the Government’s summer holidays scheme, Chancellor John Healey has said.

Mr Healey has reminded people across the country that the Great British Summer Savings scheme will come to an end on September 1.

The scheme was announced back in July, launched in August, and aimed to support families in being able to enjoy summer activities; despite the rise in living costs caused by the Iran war and other global turmoil.

Throughout the whole of August, the VAT is reduced from 20% to 5% on kids meals in restaurants, as well as tickets for attractions like theatres and soft play, and the scheme also provides free bus travel for children between five and 15.

Mr Healey said: “I want every family to get out and enjoy the bank holiday weekend by taking advantage of the final days of Great British Summer Savings.

“This Government is determined to give people a bit of breathing space. So families can afford the days out that make the summer holidays special. Whilst giving our world-class attractions and businesses a welcome boost in trade.”

The Government has listed more than 2,100 restaurants and attractions on its deal finder website as part of the scheme, where families can find discounts near to them.

It comes as the Chancellor on Thursday, August 27, visited a holiday park, the Haven Kiln Park site in Pembrokeshire, as the company announced its customers across the UK had collectively got back £4 million as a result of the scheme.

Some 251,000 families have benefited from the savings across Haven sites UK-wide, and 39,000 families across Wales.

Greene King, which is also participating in the scheme, said its customers had saved a cumulative £740,000 as a result of it.

This was a result of 1.1 million children’s meals being sold, and more than 80,000 entries to soft play areas, the pub company said.

Tributes to ‘wonderful’ Farnworth man who died aged just 27

An inquest heard that Conor Hillyard, who lived in Farnworth and had Pallister-Killian syndrome, died at Royal Bolton Hospital on May 12.

A statement from his mother, Lindsay Hillyard, read out at Bolton Coroners’ Court painted a picture of a young man whose warmth and enthusiasm for life touched those around him despite the significant health challenges he faced throughout his life.

Describing her son as having a “wonderful personality”, she said Conor loved music, lights and water, and found happiness in life’s simplest pleasures.

Ms Hillyard said: “He had complex medical needs, but despite that Conor brought great joy to all those around him.”

The court heard that although Conor required extensive care and support, his health had remained stable for many years.

However, Coroner Michael Pemberton said his condition had deteriorated in the years leading up to his death despite the dedication of both his family and medical professionals.

Mr Pemberton told the hearing that Conor had received “excellent care” throughout his life and highlighted the commitment shown by those closest to him and the healthcare professionals that worked alongside his family.

He recorded Mr Hillyard’s cause of death as sepsis and aspiration pneumonia, with contributing factors including Pallister-Killian syndrome and the misplacement of a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube.

The inquest heard that PEG tube misplacement is a recognised but extremely rare complication and was not something that could reasonably have been foreseen.

Offering his condolences to Mr Hillyard’s loved ones, Mr Pemberton said the young man had left a lasting impression on everyone who met him.

He said: “I wish to express my deepest condolences to members of his family.

“It is very clear to me that Conor, despite his physical ailments and challenges he faced throughout his life, was a beacon of brightness and joy to all who knew him.

“He had an extremely committed family that cared for him and loved him immensely.

“My thoughts will remain with them after today’s hearing.”

The inquest concluded that Conor’s death was the result of natural disease complicated by a rare medical event.

Although his life was cut tragically short, the tributes heard in court made clear the lasting impact he had on those around him, and the love that surrounded him throughout his life.
