Panthers LB Thomas Davis suffered opioid addiction that opened the door to sprawling drug case

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Nobody could overlook the off-the-field community work — bankrolling a college scholarship endowment, a Thanksgiving food drive, a Christmastime gift giveaway — that cast Thomas Davis of the Carolina Panthers as one of the true good guys around Charlotte and across the NFL.

But what really turned Davis into royalty in North Carolina was how tough he was. A legend was born when the linebacker who had already come back from a torn ACL in the same knee three times — and seemed to get better after each comeback — suited up and played in the 2016 Super Bowl despite a freshly broken arm.

Turns out, all those comebacks from all that pain took their toll and led to a deeper and more troubling story: As his career wound down, Davis became dependent on opioids, an addiction he blames for the unseemly breakup with his wife, Kelly, and the sullying of his once-pristine reputation.

The Associated Press found that it was prescriptions filled to feed Davis’ addiction that led to the downfall of Joan Rubinger, a self-styled healer who listed Davis among her dozens of high-profile pro-athlete clients who swore by her pain-relief miracles.

“I live my life in a way that I wanted my kids to always be proud of me,” said Davis, a father of four, in a recent episode of The Pivot Podcast. where he discussed his drug problem publicly for the first time. “That was something that was extremely important to me. And some of the things that happened, it made it extremely hard for them to ever be proud of the man that I had started to become.”

Davis did not respond to several calls and texts from AP and no one answered his door in North Carolina when visited by an AP reporter. Requests for comment were also made through his representatives.

A Man of the Year and a sturdy presence at outside linebacker

The high point of Davis’ career might have been 2014 — the season he was honored as the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year. The award, which comes with a trophy and a patch the player wears on his uniform for the rest of his career, recognizes the winner for his “community service, charity work and good play on the field.”

There was plenty of good play.

A college All-American at Georgia, Davis might have been voted to more than three NFL Pro Bowls and named to more than one AP first All-Pro team had he played in a bigger market — or maybe not shared the limelight with Luke Kuechly, the linebacker who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this month and name checked his good buddy, Davis, as part of his induction speech.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better person to start my playing career than next to Thomas,” Kuechly said. “He taught me about effort, toughness, competitiveness, and most of all, having joined the game of football.”

But Davis never lacked for accolades in the town where he played the first 14 of his 16 NFL seasons.

He played nine of those years after his third knee surgery. All his best seasons came during that stretch.

Off the field, he was a constant presence at charity events, many of which he sponsored. Davis, his wife and kids painted the picture of a family that had deep, meaningful connections to the heartbeat of this burgeoning southern metropolis in NASCAR country that, like so many cities, places its sports stars on a pedestal.

All of this fit into Davis’ wider life story.

Raised in a one-parent house in Shellman — a rural farming town in southwest Georgia — his mother moved 40 miles away to Eufala, Alabama, for a higher-paying job when Davis was in 11th grade to help pay the bills.

Davis stayed behind and moved in with an older cousin so he could keep playing at Randolph-Clay High in nearby Cuthbert, where, he said, he had carved out his niche on the football field as “The Man.”

“My mom allowed me, in that moment, to say, ‘Hey, I’m establishing myself,’” Davis said. “I had a goal. She had trust in me that I was going to make the right decisions.”

Davis’ drive to show comebacks were possible paid off

For more than a decade, he did. The multiple comebacks from knee surgeries — he’s believed to be the first and only NFL player to play on after tearing the same ACL three times — made him larger than life in North Carolina.

“I didn’t want to be that token, like, mascot for ACL recoveries,” Davis said. “I wanted to be the person that came back and showed every NFL club that you don’t have to give up on your players when they face injuries.”

His first-team All Pro honor (2015), three Pro Bowls (2015-17) and that larger-than-life trip to the Super Bowl (2016) all came after the knee surgeries.

“The guy has been through a lot and is the heart and soul of our team,” teammate Dwan Edwards said in the leadup to Carolina’s 24-10 loss to Denver in the title game. “He’s our emotional leader, our playmaker on the field.”

The first crack in this storybook tale came in 2018 when Davis was handed a four-game ban for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancer policy after testing positive for a banned estrogen blocker, the likes of which can be used to mask steroid use. He said he didn’t cheat, had been using the same supplements as always, but did not protest the ban.

Davis said the ban caused him to rethink his plans to retire. He spent 2019 with the Chargers and 2020 in Washington. That year, the head trainer of the Commanders was found to have been illegally distributing oxycodone to players — an unsettling reminder of the NFL’s difficult history with painkillers.

The league spent around 10 years defending a lawsuit accusing its teams of over-prescribing opioids and other painkillers. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed in 2023 because of what a judge said was its overly sprawling nature.

One of the revelations that came out during that period was a study of former players, 52% of whom said they’d used prescription opioids during their career.

The NFL Players Association did not want to offer comment about this story. The league, which has enhanced its monitoring of prescriptions since the lawsuit, said it was unaware of Rubinger. It referenced a study from 2021-22 that showed only 10% of players received prescriptions for opioids.

A drug investigation and the downfall of one of Charlotte’s beloved families

But it was in 2022 that the Drug Enforcement Administration opened its investigation after Kelly Davis accused Rubinger, the “pain doctor,” of fueling her husband’s opioid addiction. Authorities alleged Davis received more than 13,000 pills for Oxycodone and Percocet from November 2019 through March 2024.

“She preyed on these guys’ pain,” Kelly Davis told AP. “They had money, they had injuries, they had mental-health issues.”

Davis’ addiction casts a different light on the couple’s separation, their eventual divorce and the mini-scandal that erupted when news broke of Kelly Thomas’ 2025 arrest for assaulting a woman she believed was sleeping with her husband.

These days, Davis is still a presence around the Panthers facility, where the memories of all the good he did for the team and the community live on.

But, he concedes, he’s been chastened by his stunning downfall. Davis said he has gotten the help he needs, and that his focus is on trying to make things right with his children, the oldest of whom, Thomas Davis Jr., is a freshman linebacker at Notre Dame. Davis Sr. says he places blame on nobody but himself, but is well aware of the toll drugs took.

“I take full ownership of every single component of everything that’s happened in my life,” he said. “But at the end of the day, I know there were some factors that took place that ultimately led me to a space that I didn’t anticipate being” in.

Families fly to Nepal in search for 33 missing British nationals

A selfie of a man and a woman sitting beneath a tree.

As rescue efforts continue, details of the missing are slowly emerging.

Fishtail Tours and Travels confirmed Leena Bector, from Slough, was among 27 travellers linked to the tour company who remain unaccounted for.

Her husband, Bhupesh Bector, told The Times: “I know that she’s in Nepal for sure, so even if they find her today or tomorrow, I need to be there.”

Essex nurse Rajendra Pudasaini said his relatives were “swept away” by the floods.

“My wife’s auntie and uncle, and their granddaughter and her husband are missing, and my godson as well,” he told PA Media.

“They’re gone. The speed the water came, they couldn’t be saved, they were just swept away.”

Sarada Simkhada, a senior nurse at Darent Valley Hospital in Kent, is also among the missing, according to a local councillor.

The Times said Simkhada was “following in the footsteps of thousands of Hindus this month in making the spiritual journey to Mount Kailash”.

Tatajana Phillips, from Folkestone in Kent, told the BBC she has not been able to contact her sister who was near the Nepal-Tibet border when devastating flash flooding hit.

She said the last known location of her sister Julija Jakovicka was in the border area an hour before the flash floods struck.

“Then there is no more news,” she told the BBC.

Phillips said her sister, a mother-of-two living in Germany, was in the country for a yoga and meditation retreat.

“We are terribly worried,” added Phillips’ husband Ben. “We just know where they were and that’s really tough.”

Iconic ice-cream brand drops freezer-ready pillowcases to help Brits sleep sweet

Published

Wales Online

The drop comes as new research commissioned found that over half of Brits (60%) say flipping to the cool side of the pillow is crucial for a decent night’s sleep

Ever flipped your pillow to the ‘cool side’ at night? If so, you’re not just chasing comfort – you’re following a biological impulse.

Ben & Jerry’s is taking the brain-cooling science of bedtime to a ridiculously freezer-fresh extreme with ‘Ice Dreams’: limited-edition, freezable pillowcases served straight out of an ice cream tub.

With yet another heatwave expected to hit the UK in early September, the drop comes as new research commissioned via OnePoll found that over half of Brits (60%) say flipping to the cool side of the pillow is crucial for a decent night’s sleep, with 56% agreeing that flipping to the cool side helps them fall asleep. Ben & Jerry’s also found that a further 42% admit they are already officially fed up with the summer heat – as 72% now desperately craving ‘cosy season’.

After cranium cooling became the new viral wellness trend of the summer, with searches for “head cooling” up 70% this month*, the playful pillowcases are designed to deliver targeted cooling capabilities straight from your freezer to your forehead to help you drift off faster – and are backed by science too**.

“When you cool the head and neck area directly, you’re doing more than simply making yourself comfortable, you’re tapping into one of the body’s key signals for sleep: temperature,” said Clinical Psychologist and Behavioural Sleep Medicine (BSM) Expert, Dr. Zoe Gotts.

“Cooling the head can help with heat dissipation and thermal comfort, particularly when you’re too warm to sleep, potentially making it easier to settle and stay asleep. Rather than forcing the brain to switch off, you’re creating the right thermal conditions for the body’s natural sleep system to take over. Think of it as helping your body press the sleep button!”

As long-time masters of the ultimate chill, Ben & Jerry’s is taking night time indulgence from the spoon straight to the snoozing position.

“We’ve spent decades mastering the art of the ultimate scoop, but we realised the ultimate late-night experience needed a two-pronged thermal approach,” says Seren Wilson, Ben & Jerry’s Director of Ice Dreams and Dough-ziness.

“A scoop of your favourite flavour, to cool you down from the inside out, and resting your head on a freezer-fit pillowcase to keep your head cool while you count sheep and drift off to sleep. It’s essentially giving your brain a giant, cooling but comforting hug, the best sleep hack to hit your freezer drawer!”

Packaged in bespoke Ice Dreams tubs, these limited-edition, all three “flavours” are made from ultra-soft 100% cotton pillowcases to offer the ultimate upgrade to flipping your pillow to the cool side.

Top Author Compares Trump To Roman Emperor

Top Author Compares Trump To Roman Emperor

Donald Trump is governing like a Roman emperor, according to an esteemed political novelist.

Robert Harris said the US president’s “egomania” and aversion to following rules make him comparable to disruptive leaders like Augustus, who set up an imperial cult across the Roman Empire.

He even mocked the Republican by envisioning him in the traditional attire of ancient Rome.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Harris said: “Unlike almost any other American president, you can really see him [Trump] in a toga with a gold laurel wreath on his head.

“When Trump had a gladiator cage fight on the lawn of the White House, I thought the parallels are getting ridiculous.

“The talk of triumphal arches, putting his name on every building, the steam-rolling of all opposition, the egomania, the disregard for the rules.

“He is an imperial kind of president.

“Yes, you can see in the way he has undermined the American constitution and the Republic echoes of the way of which Augustus did it destroyed the Roman republic and replaced it with an imperial system.”

Harris also claimed the quality of British politicians has “declined” compared to those who governed in the wake of World War 2, taking particular aim at the prime minister.

“They were bigger figures, it seemed to me, than the current crop,” the author said. “Almost inevitably, I suppose, but you can’t really compare someone like Andy Burnham with [ex-Labour chancellor Denis] Healey or [ex-Tory defence secretary Peter] Carington.

“What has he done? He read English at Cambridge, became a special adviser and went up through the Labour Party.

“His experience of life is so much more limited than politicians 50, 60, years ago.”

Harris also predicted Reform UK leader Nigel Farage would never make it into No.10, despite the party’s strong performance in the polls since 2024.

He claimed: “Paradoxically, they’re probably more likely to succeed if he steps aside because I think he now has become such a live figure.”

“He’s a brilliant attack dog and he worms away at people, riles them up and gets them fed up about the state of the country,” Harris said.

“But that’s the easy part. Then it comes to, what are you going to do about it?”

But for the first time this year, the event has introduced a main stage headliner one day earlier than usual, with indie rock heavyweights Kasabian topping the bill on Thursday night.

But despite the heatwave we’ve been encountering in the region in recent weeks, Mother Nature didn’t quite get the memo about this weekend’s event.

With predicted thunderstorms on Thursday, the event organisers took to social media to instruct festival punters to batten down the hatches, so to speak.

Thankfully, only some light rain descended upon Bramham Park. The evening was largely warm, dry and cool, perhaps just as cool as Thursday’s headliners Kasabian, you might say.

And of course, the hardened British public are no strangers to a bit of damp weather. A huge turnout was present for the opening day of the festival.

Live music got underway at approximately 7.30pm on the main stage with Mancunian indie outfit Arkayla getting the festival off to a great start.

The current indie buzz-band showed that, just like the legendary bands that have come out of Manchester before them, they’ve got what it takes to go to the top.

The influence of acts such as the Stone Roses was certainly present in the band’s sound, and the fans in front of the stage loved every moment.

Wigan’s The Lathums were the precursor to the main event, with Kasabian closing out the opening day of festivities.

The Leicester lads delivered a setlist that was full of fire and brimstone. Kasabian raised the bar high for the weekend’s headliners to follow. Highlights included anthems such as Club Foot, Underdog and Shoot The Runner.

These are the kind of songs that are perfect for a festival crowd.

And with a gargantuan runway leading down to the fans from the stage, frontman Serge Pizzorno frequently ventured down the ramp to get closer to the fans.

His energy and infectious personality captivated the Leeds crowd from the off. On Thursday evening, Serge and the boys cemented their status as Leeds Festival legends.

Leeds Festival continues over the course of the weekend with the likes of Chase and Status, Charli XCX, Fontaines DC, Dave, Sombr, Violet Grohl and Florence and the Machine appearing over the course of the events four day duration.

Don't Wait For Lidl: These Are The Best Plug-In Solar Panels In 2026

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, HuffPost UK may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

Given the current state of the world, we probably don’t have to do much to sell you on the benefits of renewable energy.

So it makes complete sense that supermarket Lidl recently announced it will start supplying plug-in solar panels for as little as £400 in the next few months.

With energy bills rising this month, the move to increase supply of renewable power sources on British high streets could help people offset their energy bills.

We know what you’re thinking: there’s not much sun in the UK at the moment. But that doesn’t mean the energy saved by using solar panels won’t add up.

And the good news is that you don’t need to wait for Lidl and other high street suppliers to try a plug-in solar panel: there are plenty of larger options available to buy now.

Best plug-in solar panels at a glance:

Best plug-in solar panels to shop now

Whether you’re dipping your toe in the world of renewable energy, or looking for a seriously durable source to rely on during the apocalypse (or what other people would call camping), we’ve rounded up the best plug-in solar panels, from £99 to £1,900.

If it’s speed you’re after, this power station can charge in as little as 52 minutes. But that doesn’t mean it skimps on power, as the panel can charge all of your household and outdoor appliances at once. Nor does it mean excess weight, as the power station is as light as a suitcase.

Specs:
In the box: Explorer 2000v2, Solar Saga 200W AC charge cable, 3m solar panel connection lead
Wattage: 2200W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: Power bank is 17.5kg; panel is 6.3kg
Warranty: 5 years

Thinking about living off grid? This set will sort you out, not least because it can help you jump start a diesel car, should you need to. With 12 plugs, you can charge multiple things at the same time and those maximum 4400W are enough to last you several days at the very least.

One happy reviewer claimed they: “Used it on one five-day caravan trip to run a microwave, hair straighteners and 2 TVs and anything else in the caravan I couldn’t run on 12V or gas. It performed admirably and still had 83% charge remaining.”

Specs:
In the box: Jump 2200 power station, USB-A to Type-C cable, Type-C, to Type-C cable, AC adaptor, AC charger and charging cable, car charging cable, user guide
Wattage: 2200W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: Power bank is 17.5kg
Warranty: 2 years

Looking to travel light? Good news, you can get a solar panel that folds up as small as a laptop. It’s easy to set up, so ideal for beginners, and you can slide it into a van or car and barely know it’s there – except for when you need it.

Specs:
In the box: Solar panel, 12 metre DC5521 to XT60 cable, 2 x carabiners, user manual and warranty card
Wattage: 60W
Waterproof: No, splashproof but can’t be left in the rain.
Weight: 1.4kg
Warranty: 1 year

No matter where you are, this foldable solar panel can be adjusted to maximise the amount of sunlight it absorbs. That’s thanks to its four adjustable angles, which increases its efficiency and means you get 1.5x the amount of power from the same amount of sunlight. Translation: your appliances will charge quicker.

Specs:
In the box: Anker PS200 Solar Panel (200W), 2x 9.8 ft (3 m) MC4 solar charging cable, 1.6 ft (0.5 m) MC4 to XT-60 to DC7909 connector cable and safety manual.
Wattage: 200W
Waterproof: Weatherproof (IP67)
Weight: 9.23kg
Warranty: 5 years

If you live somewhere windy, this is the panel for you. It’s bulky and heavy, which can make it difficult to pack away – especially as the panels face outward when it’s packed up – but this makes it ideal for camping in slightly more torrential climes.

Specs:
In the box: 1*Dokio 200W solar panel, 1*Dokio 20A controller, 1*9.8FT XT60 cable, 1*XT60 to Alligator clip cable, 1*JY60 to DC cable, 5*DC conversion adapters.
Wattage: 200W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: 11.8kg
Warranty: Not stated

For an everyday solar panel that can help you lower those pesky energy bills, this a durable, reliable duo is your best bet. The power station charges in just over two hours, and is basically silent, so you don’t have to worry about unwelcome noise in your house. Plus, the power lasts a long time, meaning frequent recharges become a thing of the past. Phew!

Specs:
In the box: DELTA Max 2, portable solar panel, AC charging cable, user manual and warranty
Wattage: 400W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: 22.7kg
Warranty: 5 years

Everything has to be smart nowadays, and that includes your solar panel. But we’re not mad about it, these panels can be synced with the EcoFlow app so you can track how much energy you’re generating – and your ROI (ie. how much you save on energy). It even means you can control the appliances you’re powering while away on holiday, and

Specs:
In the box: 2 x 450W solar panels, 800 W micro inverter, STREAM BKW-AC cable, STREAM solar panel extension cable, clamp
Wattage: 900W
Waterproof: IP67
Weight: 3.2kg
Warranty: 10 years

Here’s another panel that folds up to a briefcase size, but unfortunately due to being extremely heavy it’s not suitable for travel. But the upside of that is it’s durable and you won’t have to worry about it blowing around in the wind, and once you’re done with it you can easily fold it away.

Specs:
In the box: Foldable panel, MC4 connector, XT60 cable, power bank.
Wattage: 400W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: 18.5kg
Warranty: 3 years

Can’t be bothered with all that dragging around? Good news, this model is just 3kg, making it easy to travel with. At just £199, it’s a steal as well, mostly because it lasts up to 10 years, and can capture sunlight from both the front and back for maximum efficiency.

Specs:
In the box: PS100 Bifacial Portable Solar Panel, 2× 8.2 ft (2.5 m) solar charging cable, 1.6 ft (0.5 m) XT60i solar charging cable, quick start guide, and safety card.
Wattage: 100W
Waterproof: Yes
Weight: 3kg
Warranty: 5 years

How do plug-in solar panels work?

Instead of having to pay for a costly installation (or deal with getting dreaded planning permission) plug-in solar panels can be installed in your home yourself, or simply propped up when you’re camping or off-grid.

Connecting a solar panel to an inverter can result in energy to charge your electronics within a few hours.

Some are even powerful enough to power a camper van, or kitchen appliances, while others are light and foldable, so they’re easily transported.

What can plug-in solar panels be used for?

Available in different forms and with varying wattage outputs, solar panels can be used in lots of contexts, including:

  • During power outages
  • To save money on energy bills by charging electronics and kitchen appliances
  • When you’re camping or off-grid
  • To power your car.

What are the benefits of solar panels?

If you’re still not sure why you would need a solar panel in your home, we asked Kian Milroy, renewables electrical engineer at solar panel intallation Heatabl to explain the how they can offset your energy bills.

“The obvious benefit of solar panels is that they allow you to generate some of your own electricity, rather than buying it from the grid,” he says. “That means you can reduce your electricity bills and protect yourself against future energy price increases.“

However, it is unlikely you’ll be able to use solar panel as your sole source of energy in the UK, Milroy notes.

“We just don’t get enough sun in winter,” he says. “But if you use a lot of energy during the day, whether you’re working from home, charging an electric vehicle, or you’re at home with a young family, it can make a material difference to your bills.

“And if you manage to produce surplus electricity, you can usually export it back to the grid through a Smart Export Guarantee tariff. But the savings you generate will always depend on your roof, how many panels you have, and how much energy you use.”

Historically, full Moons have been given nicknames to help people keep track of time and monitor the changing seasons.

The August full Moon gets its name from the time of year when when sturgeon fish are abundant in the rivers of North America.

Our next full moon, on 26 September, is called the Harvest or Corn Moon as it’s the time of year when crops are traditionally gathered.

Ugandan ‘boy king’ Oyo Nyimba dies at 34

Ugandan 'boy king' Oyo Nyimba dies at 34

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Oyo Nyimba, a tribal monarch in Uganda who ascended his ancient throne as an infant and fascinated world leaders as a boy king, has died. He was 34.

The death of the king of Tooro was announced early on Friday by Prime Minister Calvin Rwomiire Akiiki.

“The continuity of the Crown is assured,” the Tooro premier’s statement said. “His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom.”

The death has shocked many Ugandans who didn’t know the king was being treated for an unknown illness abroad and tributes were issued Friday.

Tooro authorities had assured Ugandans that Oyo remained alive but in critical condition, forcing many Ugandans to suddenly come to terms with his death at a relatively young age.

“This is very difficult to comprehend,” Deputy Parliament Speaker Thomas Tayebwa said.

King Oyo, as he was best known, was coronated in 1995 at the age of 3 after his father’s death. He was a curious child in colorful robes and an object of adoration for his hundreds of thousands of subjects. At his coronation, he went through a series of tribal rituals and emerged as King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

Oyo held the unofficial title of the world’s youngest king, a mesmerizing figure even for world leaders introduced to him at national events. He led his people via regents appointed by the kingdom until he came of age at 18.

Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi was one of those who befriended the Tooro royal family as if they were part of his extended family. Gadhafi made multiple trips to Uganda and supported Oyo and the queen mother for years before Gadhafi’s death in October 2011.

As he grew older, Oyo was known as a quiet man who protected his privacy. Still unmarried at his death, he was widely seen as Uganda’s most eligible bachelor. In September, the parliamentary speaker pledged to pay the bride price whenever Oyo determined to get married, to which the king in his throne smiled.

Tooro is one of the ancient kingdoms of Uganda. Banned after independence from British colonial rule by a republican president who said he wanted to unify the country, traditional kingdoms were restored in 1993. Although they have no political authority and are legally not allowed to engage in partisan politics, monarchs wield authority as guardians of tribal culture.

The seat of Oyo’s kingdom is a remote city in western Uganda near the Congo border. Oyo’s people are known as the Batooro.

Sandra Bullock was left in hysterical giggles after she made a very racy joke about Nicole Kidman during their appearance on The One Show on Thursday night.

The pair, who are currently promoting their new film Practical Magic 2, were chatting about the latest installment of the film, 28 years after the original.

And as Nicole reminisced on how much she enjoys playing her whimsical character Gillian Owens, Sandra butted in as she said: ‘That’s how I see her in real life too.’

She continued: ‘That’s what I admire most about her. She’s so incredibly free and just brave to do things that I would say, “No, I’m going to stay home. I’m good right here where I am.”‘

Host Lauren Laverne jumped in as she said: ‘I love how Nicole is like “the pouncing roles don’t come around often enough.’

Laughing Nicole joked: ‘There’s only one person that would let me pounce her!’

Nicole reprises her role as Sally Owens and Sandra as Gillian – two sisters from a long line of witches trying to live normal lives despite a family curse.

The sequel takes place 25 years after the original film and is adapted from Alice Hoffman’s 2021 sequel story, The Book of Magic.

Nicole and Sandra who’ve been busy surprising cinema audiences amid their press tour, executive produced the Warner Bros. Pictures flick also featuring Lee Pace and Solly McLeod.

‘The Owens women must once again unite, traveling from their home in Massachusetts to the United Kingdom to confront the source of their magic and save the next generation of their family,’ a synopsis for the film reads.

Daily Mirror

Rescuers are still searching for dozens of British nationals who are among those missing and feared dead in Nepal after devastating flash floods killed more than 160 people.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority in Nepal said on Thursday morning that 165 bodies had been recovered following flooding in the Rasuwa region, which borders China’s autonomous region of Tibet.

They said the number of missing people had risen from 403 to 826, with the Nepal Tourism Board saying on Wednesday that 33 UK citizens were among the foreign nationals unaccounted for.

According to the tourism board, 579 travellers are missing from the affected area, including 466 foreign nationals.

How did it happen?

Flash floods caused rivers to swell their banks and spread thick mud across populated areas, burying houses and creating difficult conditions for rescuers.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said a magnitude 5.2 seismic event occurred near the border between Nepal and China on Wednesday at 8.37am local time.

It added that a “glacial collapse and debris flow” caused “subsequent catastrophic impacts downstream”.
