Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis – not out this year (Amazon Game Studios)
As Sony announce Until Dawn 2, they also reveal release dates for multiformat games including Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, Silent Hill Townfall, and Ace Combat 8.
It may have been one of the longest State of Plays ever, at over an hour, but Tuesday night’s showcase was a little short on surprise announcements. There was God Of War Laufey, which took up 20 minutes at the end, but that had been heavily rumoured beforehand – not that that took anything away from the actual reveal.
In fact, almost everything shown, including both first and third party games, looked interesting and the one thing the event did provide was lots of release dates, with games such as Silent Hill Townfall, Control Resonant, Ace Combat 8, and Onimusha: Way Of The Sword finally revealing their schedules.
Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis was also dated, but unfortunately it confirmed previous rumours that it has been delayed. Either that or it’s trying to get out of the way of GTA 6 in November. It’s hard to tell, but at least it didn’t go with a September release date, unlike seemingly everything else.

Surprisingly little time was spent on Wolverine, which may mean there’s a dedicated State of Play coming up in the future. It looked great, just as you’d expect, and extremely gory, with a cameo from Jean Grey and confirmation of villains such as Mystique and Sabertooh. Its release date wasn’t news though, as that had been previously announced.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls – August 6
The release date for Arc System Works’ one-on-one fighter also wasn’t a revelation, although Sony did announce a number of villains for the game, namely Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin, and Carnage. We weren’t sure who the character sitting on the throne was but apparently he’s called the Champion of the Universe (aka Tryco Slatterus) and he’s the big bad of the whole game.

Rayman Legends Retold – October 1
There’re almost no surprises in preview events nowadays, with everything being leaked out weeks and often months in advance. The reveal of a 3D remake of 2013’s Rayman Legends was a surprise though, in the fact that it looked really good. There are a few new into-the-screen sections but the gameplay is still mostly 2D and the new 3D visuals look really nice, and seem to maintain the same charm as the original.
Bancho The Chef – TBA
Speaking of charm, we’re not sure it’s a good idea to create a spin-off from not-indie game Dave The Diver that doesn’t maintain the same pixel art style graphics. That made the visuals look rather bland in comparison, but nevertheless there was a good energy to the trailer, with a prequel that shows how Bancho became the talented sushi chef you see in the original game. There was no mention of a release date though.
Kemuri – 2027
One of the only major surprises of the night was the latest from The Evil Within’s Ikumi Nakamura and her new studio Unseen. It seems to be a co-op action adventure, somewhat in the style of Devil May Cry et al. There’s lots of jumping and gliding around, as you fight yōkai and then… turn them into clothes you wear in order to use their powers. Because why not.
Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis – February 12, 2027
A delay for the (second) remake of the original Tomb Raider seemed inevitable after the rumours began but at least it still looks good, with some impressive visuals and lots of focus on dinosaurs. There was also lots to suggest the game is sticking pretty close to the original story, although we’re yet to see much evidence of how it will handle platforming, which was originally the antithesis of the Uncharted style action from the more recent games.
The Lost Wild – 2027
Speaking of dinosaurs (and there’s few things we enjoy doing more) this new game comes from Annapurna Interactive and is by a new British studio called Great Ape Games. It seems to be some kind of survival games, and a lot more scientifically accurate than most dinosaur media, with a lot of feathered dinosaurs and some gigantic Quetzalcoatlus flying reptiles (pterosaurs are not dinosaurs, ackchyually).
Dune: Awakening – September 22
A survival game and MMO that takes influences from both the books and movies, this has been out on PC for almost a year now. It’ll come to PlayStation 5 this September, bringing with it a new single-player story mode, which we imagine will also be made available for the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions.
Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered – October 1
Not a remaster we look forward to with much enthusiasm but there you go. Like most of these games it’s available on Xbox Series X/S and PC at the same time, although unsurprisingly the State of Play made no reference to that.
No Rest For The Wicked – October
Despite what we just said this is coming to PlayStation 5 first, sometime in October, with Switch 2 and Xbox versions arriving only at a ‘later date’. This will be the final 1.0 version of the game, which will hopefully improve on the slightly questionable impression made by the early access release.
Onimusha: Way Of The Sword – September 25
This release date would’ve been one of the bigger reveals from the State of Play, except it leaked out early too. Either way, Capcom’s Resident Evil-esque zombie samurai game was already one of our most anticipated games of the autumn, as we were very impressed by our hands-on preview last year. Although you can give it a whirl yourself now, as there’s a free demo out today.
Silent Hill Townfall – September 24
For a game set in Scotland we’re still yet to hear a single Scottish accent in any of these trailers, which is weird because developer Screen Burn are actually Scottish. They’re responsible for the excellent Stories Untold and the awful Observation, so we’re not sure what to expect with this one, although in terms of Silent Hill atmosphere everything does seem to be on point.
Ace Combat 8: Wings Of Theve – October 2
Available in early access from September 29, presumably if you buy one of the more expensive editions, you can see what we mean about September getting very busy. It’s all obviously GTA 6’s fault but we hope this doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. Although there’s a pre-order bonus of a port of PlayStation 2 game Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War on offer, to tempt you into making an early purchase.
Stuntman: Hollywood – TBA
It probably says a lot about us that the only licensed car we didn’t instantly recognise was the first one, which is apparently from Fast & Furious. Although apparently that’s not Mad Max towards the end, but the Jason Statham version of Death Race. The game itself is a revival of the old Stuntman series from Driver creator Reflections, which is surprising as the original’s trial and error gameplay made it an acquired taste.
Ill – 2007
There’s no doubting the craft in this first person action horror game but it is a very grim prospect, with some truly horrible imagery and some extremely difficult to kill zombie style enemies. It’s certainly going to scare off a lot of more casual Resident Evil fans but in terms of hardcore horror thrills this is definitely one to watch.
Control Resonant – September 24
A lot of these publishers will be finding out about the release dates of other games at the same time as you, so if they’ve any sense some of them will change them pretty quickly, because at the moment Remedy’s Control sequel is coming out on the same day as Silent Hill Townfall and a day before Onimusha: Way Of The Sword – which isn’t good news for any of the games.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds – autumn
Apparently, this is the first time a RuneScape game has been on a PlayStation console, although only in the form of this action-orientated spin-off, rather than the original MMO.
Until Dawn 2 – 2027
One of the only recent big name games not to be leaked in advance, Sony’s obsession with the series continues to defy explanation, considering none of the games and spin-offs seem to have made much impact. They are popular with streamers though and somehow this is the first actual sequel, with Horizon Call Of The Mountain creator Firesprite taking over development duties, which seems to have led to a lot more gore, if nothing else – which we consider a good thing when you’re dealing with a horror game.
The premise is that you’re part of a fake ghost hunter programme investigating an abandoned tropical island where something unpleasant is going on. Despite the change in setting there seems to be one recurring character, in the form of Peter Stormare’s psychologist Dr Alan Hill.

God Of War Laufey – TBA
It’s hard to say why Sony didn’t even given this a release year but it may be because they don’t want to imply anything about Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, whose release plans are also a mystery. Surely one or the other will be out next year though, unless they’re being held back for the PlayStation 6 launch or something.

Hughes, which has 18 stores across East Anglia, said it would be closing some of its smaller retail stores in the region
Tannur Anders UK & World News Reporter

An electrical appliances retailer is set to close eight branches this weekend – including one in Cambridgeshire – as it looks to channel greater investment into its digital platform and remaining stores.
Hughes, which was established in 1921, confirmed that several of its smaller retail outlets across East Anglia would be shutting down. The company’s first shop opened its doors in Lowestoft in 1928.

The company has announced it will be closing its store in Horsefair Shopping Centre, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire on Saturday, June 6.
Chief executive Mark Wardell said employees were briefed on the decision earlier and assured they would receive support throughout the “difficult process”.
He acknowledged that many of those impacted had been with the firm for considerable periods and had “played a huge part” in its operations.
In a statement, Hughes said: “The business recognises the need to adapt and evolve its offer in the face of rising operating costs, the increasing popularity of online shopping and changing customer expectations when it comes to the modern in-store experience.”

“These have not been easy decisions to make,” he said.
“All will receive the honesty, respect and support they deserve through the difficult process ahead.
“We understand the news will be very upsetting for our teams, but we have acted now to ensure the long-term success of the business.”

The eight branches closing at the end of trading on Saturday, 6 June will be:
Clacton-on-Sea, Essex
Dereham, Norfolk
Diss, Norfolk
Hunstanton, Norfolk
North Walsham, Norfolk
Norwich Mason Road
Thetford, Norfolk
Wisbech, Cambridgeshire
The shop closures will impact 35 members of staff. A proposed closure of its delivery depot in Mason Road could result in 25 employees facing redundancy, a spokesperson confirmed.
The firm will continue to run its 10 other East Anglia branches, which are situated in:
An 18-year-old Southampton student, Henry Nowak, was handcuffed after being stabbed by Vickrum Digwa, 23, who lied to police at the scene, claiming he had been the victim of a racist attack.
Digwa has been jailed for life with a minimum 21-year term.
Nowak’s parents said they hold Digwa solely responsible for the murder of their son, but the way he was treated by police was inhumane and degrading. Hampshire police has apologised to Henry’s family and the case has now been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
BBC Verify has analysed bodycam footage that was released by the police, with the permission of Nowak’s family, and looked at the key moments before Henry Nowak’s death. Merlyn Thomas reports.

The Class 599 trains have been in service for 46 years and will be fully phased out this summer.
Metro operator Nexus has announced that the final week to guarantee a journey on the iconic yellow carriages will begin on Monday, June 22, with a train operating between 9.30am and 5.30pm each day on both the Yellow and Green lines until June 26.

North East Mayor Kim McGuinness said: “After giving our region 46 years of service, I’m pleased to confirm the original Metro train fleet will soon be phased out completely.
“I promised that by summer every single journey people made would be on a new train, and that’s what we’ve done.
“This is a really significant milestone for our region, one that I’ve no doubt will generate a lot of nostalgia and fond memories for many.
Archive picture from 1982 (Image: Nexus)
“It’s great that people will have one last chance to travel on them before they go.
“It’s the end of an era for Metro, but it’s time we look ahead.”
The original trains have carried 1.7 billion passengers since they began service in August 1980 and have travelled a combined total of 500 million kilometres.

Cathy Massarella, managing director of Nexus, said: “The old Metro trains have given us sterling service over the last 46 years, but we’re now getting ready to say that historic farewell.
“We’re in the final few weeks where customers are guaranteed a journey on the few that remain running.

“These trains helped to change the face of public transport in our region in 1980, and over the four decades that followed.
“They have served us well, surpassing their expected life expectancy.

“They’ve now come to the end of the line.
“They’re making way for the new generation of trains, which are delivering a bright future for the Tyne and Wear Metro.”
The £362 million Stadler fleet is now in service, marking the biggest upgrade in the Metro’s history.
Nexus plans to have all 46 new trains operational by the end of 2026.

The new fleet was designed following an extensive customer consultation which resulted in over 23,000 responses and features linear seating, charging points, 44 CCTV cameras, climate control, battery technology, and improved accessibility, including an automatic sliding step at each set of doors.
Most of the old trains are being recycled at a specialist facility in County Durham.
However, two have been preserved for heritage purposes, and one has been donated to the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service for training use.
Scotland, Liverpool and Celtic great Sir Kenny Dalglish is undergoing treatment for cancer.
The legendary forward and former manager wanted to keep the news private but confirmed the diagnosis after accidentally sharing the news initially in an “inadvertent social media post”.
“I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer,” Dalglish, 75, wrote on social media. “Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well.
“Ideally, this would have remained private because that’s the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand.

“Obviously I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected.
“As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves.”
The former forward scored 30 goals – a joint national record alongside Denis Law – in 102 appearances for Scotland and is the country’s most capped player.
He scored 167 goals in 320 appearances for Celtic between 1969 and 1977, winning four league titles and four Scottish Cups.

Dalglish signed for Liverpool for a British record fee of £440,000 and spearheaded a golden era for the club, winning three European Cups and eight First Division titles across his 515 appearances.
He was appointed player-manager with the Reds in 1985, a spell in which he guided Liverpool to three First Division titles and two FA Cups – including the double in 1985-86 – as well as leading the club through the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, before retiring from playing in 1990.
After resigning as Liverpool boss in February 1991, he went on to manage Blackburn – where he won the Premier League in 1995 – Newcastle, Celtic and Liverpool again in 2011-2012.
In a statement, Liverpool said: “The support, best wishes and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will be, with Sir Kenny and his family.

“The club would also like to underscore his request for privacy moving forward.”
Ian Rush, who played alongside Dalglish at Liverpool, posted: “The King is one of the strongest and most positive people I’ve ever known. If anyone can face this battle with courage and determination, it’s King Kenny. We’re all behind you.”
England and Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson, who Dalglish signed from Sunderland in 2011, said he had contacted the Scot because he has been “a huge figure in my whole career”.
Henderson, who spent 12 years at Anfield, told BBC Sport: “It was a big shock but just sending all the love and prayers to him and his family – hopefully he can make a strong recovery and he’s back to his fighting self in high spirits soon.”

Former Liverpool left-back Stephen Warnock, who plays golf with Dalglish, added: “It’s just a sad day because he’s done so much for cancer charity, him and Marina Dalglish. Obviously we are all behind him and hopefully he recovers from it.”
The news emerged a day after another Liverpool great, Kevin Keegan, revealed he has stage four cancer.

Man United have had injury problems in defence this season, and the partnership that ends the 2026/27 campaign could look very different to the one that starts it.
Manchester United will head into next season with five central defenders, but the pecking order at the end of the year could shift dramatically during a campaign that will offer opportunities to all of them.
United finished this season with Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez installed as Michael Carrick’s preferred partnership. They started together when fit and offer a good blend of right-footer and left-footer, of dribbler and passer, strong in the air and combative on the deck.
But it’s easy to envisage that partnership drifting apart at some point next season. Maguire is now 33 and Martinez has had his injury problems, never appearing in more than 27 Premier League games during his four-year spell at Old Trafford.
Click here to find out the latest Manchester United news in our daily newsletter
And it’s easy to forget that Matthijs de Ligt was actually the flavour of the month in the early weeks of this season. He played every minute of the Premier League season until the end of November and was then unable to shake off a back injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
De Ligt has since undergone surgery to correct that issue and although he won’t be fit for the start of the season, he will have his sights set on a place in the side once he does return to full training at Carrington.
Then there are the two youngsters and their development will be worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses. Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven started three games together last season and United won none of them, but both are considered exciting talents at Carrington.
In fact, so highly-rated are 20-year-old Yoro and 19-year-old Heaven that Maguire, who has been something of a mentor to both of them, has told club staff they could be United’s own version of Arsenal’s title-winning central defensive partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel.
That duo have been the bedrock of Arsenal’s domestic success and are without doubt the best partnership in the league. Maguire’s faith in the long-term potential of Yoro and Heaven is telling.

Content cannot be displayed without consent
Maguire signed a new one-year deal, with the option of a further year, in April and as good as he was last season, the end is clearly close at Old Trafford. Martinez’s contract situation is identical, with 12 months remaining and a one-year option. He has fitness concerns to overcome to earn an extension and will turn 29 midway through next season.
De Ligt also has to prove his form and fitness all over again. It feels inevitable that at least one of De Ligt, Martinez and Maguire will leave Old Trafford next summer, so the path for Yoro and Heaven is there.
They also have a right-foot-left-foot balance and should have attributes that indicate they will strike up a good partnership. They have already formed a connection off the pitch.
Heaven overcame a sticky spell to end the season well and was outstanding in the win at Chelsea, but Yoro didn’t kick on as expected last term. United beat Real Madrid to his £52million signature in 2024, and although he is still young for a central defender, he will be targeting a place in the strongest XI by the end of next season.
It certainly feels like there will be places in that defence up for grabs next season. Maguire and Martinez hold those shirts at the moment, but their grip on them will loosen at some point and De Ligt, Yoro and Heaven will all get their own chances to impress.

Netanyahu says Iran will ‘fall in the end’ in speech in Tel Aviv
The US military says that Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait and Bahrain failed or were shot down, and that the US launched strikes on an Iranian facility in response.
US Central Command said the strikes were on an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz, that is home to a desalination plant.
Iran had fired missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain but they failed to hit their targets, the US said. The two fired at Kuwait fell apart en route, while US and Bahrain forces intercepted the missiles aimed at Bahrain.
The escalation comes as president Donald Trump calls suggestions that the US and Iran are no longer holding peace talks “false and erroneous” and insisted the two countries have been speaking “continuously”.
In a post on Truth Social, he added the US and Iran in fact spoke “four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today”.But he also said he had told Tehran: “It’s time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal. You’ve been doing this for 47 years, and it cannot be allowed to go on any longer!”
Iran’s Guard attacks US fifth fleet hq and airbase
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps has attacked the US Fifth Fleet headquarters and an airbase and helicopters in a regional country using missiles and drones, Iranian media reported this morning.
The strikes have been described as a retaliation against the US attack on a communications tower south of Qeshm Island.

The Guard navy also targeted a vessel it identified as Panaya with missiles in response to what it said was a US attack on an Iranian tanker near the Strait of Hormuz with a projectile that damaged the engine room, Iranian media reported.
“Disrupting the security of the Strait of Hormuz will carry a heavy price for the US military,” local media cited the IRGC as saying.

study reveals how much increased costs from Trump’s Iran war have hit your household
The military conflict in Iran has cost U.S. households an estimated $100 billion overall, driven primarily by a sharp increase in energy costs following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a new study from Moody’s Analytics found.
The analysis indicates that the financial burden translates to roughly $750 per household since the conflict began in February. The military action, initiated by President Donald Trump without congressional approval, has led to a 35 percent surge in oil prices.
According to data from AAA, the national average price for regular gasoline sits at $4.29 per gallon, though prices remain elevated after previously climbing above $4.50. Costs continue to top $5 in six states following the disruption of shipping lanes in the region.

US fires Hellfire missile at tanker heading towards Iran
The US military fired a Hellfire missile at a tanker heading towards Iran as part of a blockade being imposed by Donald Trump.

US Central Command posted a video showing the missile striking the Botswana-flagged M/T Lexie, and said it targeted the ship’s engine room, disabling it.
“The ship’s crew ignored repeated warnings, failing to comply with directions from US forces multiple times over a 24-hour period,” Central Command said in a statement.
“A US aircraft ultimately disabled the vessel by firing a Hellfire missile into the ship’s engine room, preventing the tanker from reaching Iran.
“The Lexie is the sixth ship that the US military has disabled since it started its blockade of Iran on 13 April.

US says Iran’s attack on Bahrain and Kuwait failed
The US military has claimed that Iranian missile attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and other regional targets were either thwarted or failed, as diplomacy between Washington and Tehran showed little progress.
Two Iranian missiles shot at Kuwait fell short or broke apart in flight, while several ballistic missiles aimed at regional targets failed and three missiles heading for Bahrain were intercepted, the US Central Command said.
It said the US military also downed Iranian drones targeting civilian ships in regional waters and US forces in Kuwait, and carried out strikes on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz following attempted attacks by Iran.
The Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly attacked the US Fifth Fleet headquarters, located in Bahrain, as well as an airbase and helicopters in an unspecified regional country using missiles and drones in response to a US attack on a communications tower south of Qeshm.

There are supposed to be ceasefires across the Middle East, but the fighting is worsening
Ceasefires have been announced, often to great fanfare, in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. So why is there still so much fighting?
In just the last few weeks, Israeli forces have captured more territory in Gaza and killed two top Hamas militants there, as well as more than a dozen other people. In Lebanon, Israeli troops captured a Crusader fortress over the weekend in their deepest incursion in 26 years, as Hezbollah kept up rocket fire into northern Israel.
The fighting in Lebanon showed no sign of letting up on Tuesday, after U.S. President Donald Trump said both sides had agreed — again — to de-escalate.

“The ship’s crew ignored repeated warnings, failing to comply with directions from U.S. forces multiple times over a 24-hour period”, CENTCOM said in an X post.
A US aircraft “ultimately disabled the vessel by firing a Hellfire missile into the ship’s engine room, preventing the tanker from reaching Iran”, the post read.
American forces have disabled a total of six commercial vessels and redirected another 122 ships during their blockade, which started on April 13.

A woman attacked an old school friend with a knife and choked her after losing her temper “in a quite startling way”, a court has heard. When arrested, having been found hiding in a cupboard, Elizabeth Jones assaulted police and then “made up a fairy tale” about how the victim came by her injuries.
Sending the defendant down, a judge at Swansea Crown Court said while the physical wounds she had caused in the attack would heal, “the psychological impact may take a great deal longer to be resolved”.
Caitlin Brazel, prosecuting, told the court that Jones and the complainant in the case had known each other since their school days, and said that in March this year the defendant was staying with her friend at her home in Swansea. Don’t miss a court report by signing upto our crime newsletter here
The barrister said that on March 13 the complainant was asleep on her sofa when she was awoken by her houseguest who said she had taken cocaine and wanted diazepam – better known as Valium – to help her sleep. The friend told Jones she didn’t have any diazepam and even if she did, she would not give her the drug.

The court heard Jones responded by arming herself with a kitchen knife, then picked up and threw a glass coffee table – causing it to smash – before throwing drinking glasses at the complainant.
The prosecutor said Jones grabbed the woman by her hair and dragged her over the broken glass on the floor before punching her in the face, “jabbing” the kitchen knife at her stomach, and cutting her legs while shouting “I’m going to f****** kill you! I’m going to f****** stab you!”. The defendant then grabbed her friend around the throat and squeezed to the point where the woman was struggling to breath.
The court heard a neighbour of the victim’s, who had heard the sounds of a disturbance, knocked on the front door to check if everything was okay, thereby giving the complainant the chance to flee the property.
The victim went to Morriston Hospital where medics found lacerations to her ear and leg, grazes, marks on her neck, and soft tissue damage to her face.

Meanwhile police began to search for 26-year-old Jones, and she was found in a property hiding under a pile of clothes in a cupboard. When arrested she was verbally and physically aggressive to officers. In her subsequent interview, Jones denied the allegations and said she had grabbed her friend in a bear hug to stop her self-harming and said her friend had cut herself when falling into a glass coffee table.
In a statement read to the court, the victim said she had been left suffering with panic attacks, nightmares, and had trouble sleeping. She said her flat had been left looking “like a murder scene” with blood and broken glass everywhere, and said she no longer felt safe in her own home and would have to move. The woman said the defendant had been a friend for 12 years and the pair had been due to go on holiday together. She said that following the incident she was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Elizabeth Jones, of Park View, Llanelli, had previously pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, making threats to kill, strangulation, criminal damage, and assaulting a constable when she appeared in the dock for sentencing. She has 16 previous convictions for 22 offences including harassment, three batteries, and three counts of criminal damage. Her last conviction is for theft from July 2025.
Matt Murphy, for Jones, said it was plain from the contents of a pre-sentence report that his client had a “deeply troubled background” which led to drug misuse and offending. He said the defendant’s period on remand in HMP Eastwood Park had been her first experience of custody and was a “salutatory lesson”. The barrister added that his client had a supportive family.

Judge Paul Thomas KC said for reasons which had never been properly explained, the defendant had lost her temper “in a quite startling way”. He said it was impossible to know the level of fear the victim experienced while being strangled, not knowing if her assailant would stop. The judge said while the physical wounds caused by the attack would heal “the psychological impact may take a great deal longer to be resolved”. He noted that Jones had then “made up a fairy tale” about how the victim came by her injuries.
With a one-quarter discount for her guilty pleas, Jones was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison comprising 40 months for the offending against the complainant, and two months for the assault on the PC to run consecutively. The defendant will serve up to half the sentence in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community.
